That is nothing new to say. It`s part of that dumb saying "The most free (or dangerous) person in the world is someone, who has nothing left to lose." It`s really common. You don`t need to point your finger at that and say "it`s just stolen from an other movie!"

Although I agree with you in general, it's well known that the showrunners explicitly said that Fight club was one of the inspirations foe the theme of the show. She literally made anyone who hadn't seen it watch the film.. so it's not unreasonable to look for the similarities.

How Master Sol is the immediate suspect for killing all the Jedi boggles my mind. Are you telling me to believe that someone thinks Sol would go Awol, kill his padawan and everyone on his team, and then do what exactly. It makes no sense that any of the Jedi would only suspect Sol. Like the possibility of a powerful force user ambushing Sols’ party is nonexistent in the minds of the recovery team. The shows answer for how the Jedi didn’t realize the Sith are still around is literally just that the Jedi are incredibly dumb. The writing is just terrible, how can anyone defend it?

I think it would be cool to see a "Bad guy" perspective show kind of like that Andor sub-plot. The problem with Darksiders is they're Evil, they aren't misunderstood or painted poorly or whatever. As you explained and as explained by Lucas they are selfish, greedy and lust for power which is definitely something I don't want being glorified or humanized. The big problem acolyte writers don't understand is it isn't a matter of perspective, they're evil, case closed. However, someone fighting for the Empire or helping the Sith or what not would be a cool concept for a story, someone working for Evil but no necessarily evil themselves

It's so frustrating because you can tell there's the bones of an actual really good and interesting story, but the execution just isn't there. So many of the character decisions and motivations don't make sense. Especially Mae. The idea of her only joining the dark side for revenge and coming back to the light when she finds out her sister is still alive is great, but why is she so inconsistent with her decisions? First she wants to turn herself in, then she decides to kill the jedi, then tries to turn Osha to her side, only to then leave her for dead and sneak onto the ship with Sol to kill him? WHAT DOES MAE EVEN WANT AT THIS POINT.

The Game of Thrones/HoD audience is WAY more mature than the Star Wars audience. That gives a writer a lot more freedom to craft a story.
The SW fandom broke out into a civil war over Ki-Adi-Mundi's birthday two weeks ago. We have "expert" influencers who know nothing about the franchise except what happened in the first six films. We have "lore purists" who don't know the damn lore. Pleasing this audience is like asking a writer to create a story using a broken typewriter while wearing a straightjacket.

I would agree that there are parts to this episode that I found quite engaging. I actually really liked Qimir’s temptation of OSHA because he was doing the classic “show, don’t tell” with her. He wasn’t directing giving her the answer but was instead giving her enough clues and motivation to find the answers on her own.
However, I think this episode displayed the main flaws of the show. Fundamentally, the show has three main angles.
    1. The Jedi have become increasingly political and bureaucratic, and the show seeks to demonstrate just how far they have fallen.
    2. The Jedi, led by Indarra, committed or were part of some terrible act, and this past has come back to haunt them.
    3. A dark side user by the name of Qimir is searching for an apprentice.
If well written, you can demonstrate all three angles working together to form a cohesive story. Unfortunately, due to the writing and the short run times, we’re really only left with bits and pieces of a unified story with most of the plot lines veering around each other and rarely intersecting.

@@JoRoq1 I don't really think this show suffers from agenda messaging so much as it suffers from bad writing in general. There have been a couple elements, like the witches and oppression along with the Jedi and who has the right to wield power.
However, I think a competent writer could have combined these elements and written a compelling story.
I recently watched through all of The Orville, and the political messaging is quite clear throughout the show. However, the writers approach the topics with a lot of nuance, and they generally don't bash you over the head with their perspective.

to be fair “when you lose everything, thats when your finally free” from a darkside perspective can be interpreted as
“when you lose everything you love, thats when you can enact your freedom”
lose implies something is stolen or taken by someone as if someone is trying to take away their possesions
from a sith perspective freedom isn’t liberty but instead power, individuality & victory
which contrasts the jedi’s idea of freedom as selfnessess, fulfilment and greater wisdom
so losing everything would give a darkside an excuse to enact revenge and later achieve power and victory
qimir saying the phrase and also other lightside things was a way for him to make osha more trusting towards him for him to further corrupt her, hence the name of the episode “teach/corrupt”

Very well said, I was just about to comment something like this.
Whenever Qimir talks about wanting to be free to do as he pleases, he's probably referencing the Sith code, not denouncing the Jedi as oppressive or unjust.
Freedom (as in the ability to use one's power to change the galaxy as one sees fit) is the ultimate objective of all Sith; friendship, family and relationships are obstacles to real freedom as they impose limits on one's actions, that's why many Sith end up killing people they deeply cared about, by doing that they free themselves from the last thing that still anchored them to their humanity. Darth Malgus killed his lover, Anakin killed Padme, Palpatine killed his family, Dooku killed Yaddle; there are likely many other examples, but yes, Sith in a way let go of attachments too, because at the end of the day the only thing they care about is power and if anything lessens your power or restricts how you can make use of it, it should be eliminated.
Qimir's character is definitely one of the few good parts of this show, I think he pretty much nails what it means to be Sith.

Qimir's vision of freedom is very twisted, as was shown in Ep. 5. He wants to be free to kill people and be more powerful in the Force. Also using "lose" instead of "let go" hints at what he really believes in, as Thor mentioned.
Sol is in his Dark Cave moment, fighting his Dark Side after suppressing it for years.

  • @christopherm.1258

I could understand Maes thought process this time. She wanted to sneak on Sol and kill him, but then he said he wanted to confess to the council. She than wanted to help him get there, so he could confess.
Sols mind is more clouded. He wants to confess, I don`t really understand why now? He was clouded by his feelings, which is probably why he didn`t sense it`s Mae and not Osha?
3:23 Losing (or Let go) aren`t really a Jedi or Sith thing. Both sides say you should let go, but they differ in what and how.
Jedi want you to hold the things/people you love close be ready to let go, when something/-one you love gets lost and you have to live without it. And they don`t want you to get too close with that something/-one, so that it doesn`t cloud your mind to much.
The Sith want you to actively cut your ties with everything you love, because that holds you back to become powerful, or at least want you to ignore that. And when you lose it/them, it shouldn`t matter to you.
The Jedi still want you to care about the things/people you lose and the Sith want you to care about nothing but yourself.
What Qimir says is more in line with the Sith than the Jedi, because he talks about everything being better, when you don`t have something else to care about than yourself.
(I hope I made myself understandable. I`m really bad at explaining as specially in an other language.)

I can’t make my mind up about this show.
I will say, Qimir and Sol are doing a lot of the heavy lifting, and it's great. We don't know what darkness Sol is hiding, and Qimir is really doing a great job of sewing seeds.
In fact, part of me wouldn't be surprised if he is no longer "Sith" (I was convinced he was after last week's episode, now less so). Hard to say without knowing more, but I could see him having been an apprentice to a Sith Lord, but being cast aside.
I was also convinced that this week we would see what happened on Bendok, or at least be told more about it.
And instead, it doesn't feel like a lot was covered.
Even my kid said "That's it?" when the credits began. There were nice moments, good dialogue with Qimir, little things. But ultimately the pacing of the story and it being 30 min episodes and it being a week apart really kills the momentum and enjoyment.
I just wish all episodes were dropped at once, or at least, dropped in 2 or 3 batches. I feel like anyone watching the show when everything is out will have a better experience since the "necessary, but slow" episodes can be immediately followed up by the more engaging and revealing ones.
If nothing else, I just wish there was more. I don't need a fight between Osha and Qimir before she begins to listen. I just want more conversation between all these characters. They're fine, but just brief.
I want to hear more from Qimir as he tries to persuade Osha to follow him.
I want Osha to go more into her conflicted feelings about the Jedi and killing Qimir.
I want Mae to go more into her conflicted feelings about Qimir and killing Jedi.
I want to hear more about the politics that is going on with the Jedi.
    What is Vernestra thinking?
All of the scenes we had could have had more time to breathe and expand. Longer episode with a bit more depth.
And I don't know if that is a writer thing or a Disney thing. Did Leslye and the writing room say "30 minute episodes"? Or did Disney?
Could they have pushed back and said "release it in batches. Or all at once."?
I can only hope the last two episodes actually have depth to them.

I kinda liked this episode. Qimir, or whatever his real name is, is easily the most interesting character in the series, and I think the show would've been better if it was all about him instead of the twins. The Sol and Mae scenes were mostly good, though he should've realized it was her sooner. I assume next week will be another flashback to Brendok told from Sol's perspective, which I guess I'm interested in. The weakest part was Vernestra, who continues to be an emotionless robot, and the idiot Padawan, who looks at the dead Jedi and assumes Sol did it. Hey Thor, I have been hating the Acolyte but this episode I actually enjoyed. I found that Hanelle Culpepper’s direction brought out good visual storytelling aspects that have been missing from this show. The Qimir and Osha scenes were definitely a strong aspect of why I admire this episode. I think the direction in the episode brought out really good emotional acting in these characters, especially Amandla. It was very surprising to see her actually cry.
I do believe this planet to be Ahch-To because it would be very poetic to have once had a civilization that peacefully coexisted with others that have religious ties to both the Light and Dark. However I do see people suggesting it is Bal’Demnic from the Plagueis Novel.
I felt this episode was attempting to allude to the Force being more than just a dichotomy but this still conflicts with what George established. I think this has nice implications for an underlying message but sadly it just conflicts with the lore of Star Wars.
The Qimir and Osha nakey scene felt very weird but I think this was an attempt by Qimir to play on her baser emotions and coerce her.
There absolutely was potential in this episode but the poor writing and overall direction of this show heavily detracts from it.
I’ve seen very interesting discussions arise from this episode. A really good theory is that Osha may have the ability to use Battle Meditation which would be a decent explanation for why Mae’s desires keep changing seemingly on a whim. It’s still really dumb that Sol allowed the bugs to carry a literal Sith away and then be so apprehensive about telling the Order that they’ve returned.
I still don’t like the show but this episode definitely stood out for me.

Qimir's desire for a friend makes perfect sense.
Don't forget that Darth Plagus had a family and Anakin Skywalker intended to have a family.
Mae is motivated by the loss of her family as well as anger for the Jedi "taking" OSHA away.
One of the reasons why OSHA wanted to leave her coven was to finally meet other children. She wanted to be more that Mae's counterpart.
Companionship is a natural and strong instinct for people (and likely all sentient beings). We need a sense of belonging and community, whether it is an association by family, sports team, coworkers, or internet comment sections.
Qimir can call it an acolyte, apprentice, follower, assistant, disciple, ally, partner, squire, or a good buddy. He doesn't want to be alone. A person, no matter how powerful, cannot do everything alone. I would argue that hermits live alone because they cannot find good companions OR lost good companions and doesn't want to start over.
No one is immortal either. Have someone to remember our history, cultures, and achievements helps give life meaningfulness. The Jedi don't believe in attachment, but the Order will die without new students. The Sith want all they can get, but who will take care of that stuff after death? Who will carry the legacy of the Sith if a dark sider is too self to take an apprentice?
TLDR: Qimir is a powerful dark side person, but he is still a person. He lives on an island, but no man is an island. He needs a companion. He needs a meaningful life. He needs someone to preserve his legacy.
    He needs an Acolyte.

When he did realize it was Mae, why did he not immediately go back to the planet to search for Osha? How does he know she was taken away by the Sith? Didn't Mae want revenge for her whole community not just Osha? So when she realized Osha was alive, suddenly she could let go of the deaths of everyone else and only Osha mattered? Mae's goal should have been to capture Osha and take her away in her ship (the one Mae and Quimir arrived on) to tell her what really happened and bring her back to Brendok to jog her memory. This would link Qimir to Sith Lords Darth Tenebrous and/or Darth Plagueisas they visited this planet per the novel, (which is legends but can easily become canon), AFTER his fallout with the Jedi Order and Vernestra (likely his master). I think the naked swimming is in reference to Samurai who bathed in hot springs all the time (perhaps it's a bacta effect or some other source that slows aging because he doesn't look 100ish years old.
The show suffers from a few things, but one thing I am really coming around on is that the way the Jedi Order are being portrayed. People are many shades of grey, we do both good and not so good things all the time. I think showing the Jedi Order as a political organization with their own power schemes rather than an altruistic entity allows the viewer to connect with their own life choices and gives pause for thought (if one is so inclined to do so).

Hey Thor, Devil's advocate here.. Star Wars does teach us about light side overcoming the dark. De-facto the Prequels also teach us that a religious/governmental/military/policing organization can exist that is inherently good and beyond corruption, infighting, internal politics or any misdeeds at all. Even if we find that realistic, which it truly isn't, then that doesn't create a lot of opportunity for storytelling. Adhering to "The Jedi can do no wrong" may work in a cartoon show, but it'll bore mature audiences to tears. Andor (and Rogue One) explored a more balanced and realistic view of the rebellion and largely succeeded. Acolyte looks like it's doing the same with the Jedi, and succeeding maybe not as well although viewing numbers are probably similar to Andor. That Acolyte has many problems doesn't mean that the solution is to only make shows in which the Jedi can do no wrong. See also the Reimagined Battlestar Galactica, which was a gripping story and morally extremely ambiguous. There were scenes and storylines in there that stayed with me for days.

When did I say I want to see the Jedi do no wrong ever? What I'm saying is I don't want to see the Jedi responsible for the creation of the villains; I don't want this implication that the light creates the darkness somehow and that there needs to be a balance between them. And, no, this show is not doing the same thing as Andor. Not even close. Andor asks the question: How far does good have to go to stop evil and what do they become in the process? This show seems to be saying that when there is too much good they will inevitably create evil. This goes along with Headland's recent comment about there being "too many Jedi" at this point in time.

Hey Thor, I come to you with a bit of thinking from, both your comment on today's episode and stuff from last week episode, about Sith in general, not really about the show itself (it's a disappointment so far). At first I was in in the band wagon saying "Sith wanting freedom is dumb".
First, freedom as a every person would understand the word, heavily depends on that person's country and culture, for example, even though USA and France both have freedom of speech, and bear in mind I don't know much in details about the US, but in France, freedom of speech, like most other freedoms, has its boundaries, freedom can't be total, and it's a paradox, to have limits on freedom, one would say, one might even say it's an autophage argument. I thought it was interesting to point out the different notions we all have for words that sound so universal.
Second, the core of what I actually wanted to talk to you about, after stepping down from what other people thoughts, I told myself "well yes of course freedom is what a Sith seek because true freedom can only be achieved by one's self determination ! While it may sound obscure, it's as if a lightbulb suddenly lighted up in my mind, as I recalled some of the things I learned in my teen years studying, I thought of the philosopher from the Enlightment era, Jean Jacques Rousseau. He thought true freedom was living in harmony with one’s nature rather than being constrained by societal expectations or external pressures.
He believed modern society and its institutions had corrupted human nature, leading to inequality, injustice, and the loss of individual liberty. Rousseau suggested that true freedom could only be achieved by breaking free from the constraints of society and embracing our natural, free state.
He argued that we are born free, but society imposes rules and regulations on us, limiting our potential and ability to think freely. According to Rousseau, being free means living a life that is true to who we are rather than conforming to the expectations of others.
According to to him, freedom is not just about being physically free but also mentally free. For Rousseau, true freedom meant self-expression without fear or pursuing our curiosities without judgment.
He says true freedom requires us to be introspective and honestly examine our inner self.
That in a nutshell is what Sith pursue come to thinking about that, in a way, Sith teachings are quite heavily inspired from that one philospher of the Enlightment era in Europe !
Let me know your thoughts !

This show is awful, just awful, NONE of the character motivations make any sense, and they change from scene to scene. This episode was boring as hell though, and not because of lack of action, because nothing happened. The first 4 mins or so were Osha following Qimir, why did we need a scene that long of this!? Then on the other end we see Vernestra making the SAME trek through the jungle planet we saw the Jedi make 2 episodes ago, it’s a literal rehash, why do we need to see this!? Just show them arriving at the scene of the crime, you cut out like 1-2 mins of wasted space and save on budget.
Regarding the questions Thor brought up, it was my impression Basil told Sol about Mae, and probably that Qimir had lived, I feel like he saw him last in the previous episode, but I could be remembering wrong. Also, the scar on Qimir sure looks like one a whip light saber would cause.. Only one Jedi has been fighting hard to keep this from the council, only one keeps hinting this person is Jedi trained, and she now took it upon herself to go check this out and not tell the council again. Sure seems to me they’re setting up Vernestra as Qimir’s former Jedi master.
On another note, I think someone, maybe Headland said this week that seduced by the dark side of the force was going to look more literal this week, and good lord I can’t believe she meant it, seeing the Osha-Qimir shippers on X tonight was truly a gross surprise I did not see coming.
Lastly, that Sol-Mae scene where she’s strapped to the bed and he has his sudden turn of emotions and the music gets ominous was weird as hell, creepy as f***. Where did that even come from, what are we meant to take from that scene?

I seriously vote we just forget about Disney Star Wars: its not gonna get better
Andor does NOT balance everything out especially if its declared officially canon with the sequels. If they insert any foreshadowing to the events of the sequels particularly Palpatines Death Star destroyers it will change the story for the worst, confirming that Andor is going to ultimately give his life for a red herring.
The Death Star IS confirmed as such: this is the Final Order, the emperor’s REAL takeover. Everything that comes before is meaningless

Forgive my ignorance, but I'm wondering where the idea that dark side users wouldn't want a "friend" comes from? Certainly they wouldn't want someone to be equals with, but it feels very dark side to me to crave someone's devotion or even affection. I'm not even sure how the Rule of Two would work without that craving... if you're afraid of losing everything, why train someone in your skills and powers? Surely you can find someone less of a threat to do your dirty work... some bounty hunters or cultists or something. It feels to me like the master/apprentice relationship of the Sith is all about a toxic and controlling relationship, not just utility.

Ive figured out this show. Its a metaphor for Lesley Headlands involvement in Weinstien. The sith is Harvey, the jedo are Hollywood, and May and Osha are Headlands angel and demon conscience battling for the right choice. Thats why both of them are inconsistent all the time and can't make thier mind up. She was battling between keeping her job and letting women get abused. All makes sense now.

One possibility why Mae pretended to be Osha is that Qimir told her to do that and we as the audience were not privy to that so we'd assume Mae was doing this on her own. Misdirection again. We never see Mae change clothes with Osha and it is implied that this happened while Qimir was escaping the big bugs. But it could be that he arrived while Mae was standing over Osha after she 'cut' her hair. Maybe he arrived moments later and persuaded her to impersonate Osha while he takes the real Osha and turns her to the dark side. Maybe he promised Mae that he'd 'forgive' her if she did this. In Qimir's plan, he corrupts Osha, Mae, pretending to be Osha, contacts the Jedi and claims Sol killed everyone on the jungle planet and he is either put into prison or executed and then Mae rejoins Qimir and he then has both sisters as Acolytes. Just a thought, because why would Mae be loyal to a master who seemed to be trying to kill her in last week's episode and that she was afraid of. Remember, Mae was going to go and surrender to the Jedi before everything went to hell. Why would she leave her sister with someone she was scared of and then go off and try to kill Sol? Sure, she'd complete her 'mission' but after all the Jedi were dead on the jungle planet and since none of the Jedi back at Coruscant knew about Qimir, they'd either assume Sol killed the Jedi, or else Mae did and if the Jedi found Sol dead on his ship floating out in space and then the whole order would be hunting for her. Of course Mae isn't very bright, but killing Sol like she started to do in this episode would have just led more Jedi hunting for her, as it would destroy the theory that Sol killed the Jedi on the jungle planet.

i think qimir was vernestras padawan. hes got the scars on his back and she cracked a light whip in this episode and ill take that as a clue. and i think you may have missed the part when osha asked him what he wanted with his sister and he said he wanted the power of two and not just revenge. thats something that suggests that he learned from the coven or possibly mother karal after the incident.

This show would've worked much better (i.e going from at best extreme yo-yo up and downs to a brain baffling degree), as a tighter, 120-130 min movie as it's own standalone tale---or as a "secret" part 1 to a loosely associated set of anthology movies (preferably not the banal "trilogy," especially in Star Wars, but rather 5 or so, just cuz the sith have a great many tale to tell)
Oh and come on, my long time no speak long time friendo, 8:44
That is CLEARLY a LightWhip scar on his back,& as such is yet another "THE ACOLYTE," TOTALLY random & not perfectly plot timed...
TOTALLY smooth subtlety, much like screaming "RAYYYPPP!!!," in a crowd to get just ONE person's attention...
TOTALLY justifiable OVER-THINK for us fans, i.e. "it can't be her, they can't have it THAT obvious, it's misdirection...right...?," in regards to Greeny Gon-Bald Chick Fisto POSSIBLY being a wayyyyy better hidden & a wayyyyyy stronger sith than Palpatine, being a sith lord POSING AS A FRIGGIN JEDI....
Or, more likely, EzLa MiRRer is her former Paduwan, thrown away by the light whip green bald jedi chick as he said in this episode ...and her uhhh "crime" is knowing he'd fall to the dark mode or already did or even had the good ol after school special FELL IN WITH THE WRONG CROWD, those pesky sith boys from 255th & Myrtle Ave, by the J train!!!
