    Hey Happy Campers!!
    Today's Episode we are troubleshooting an issue with the 12 volt power in our RV Camper. Here is the issue... Brand Spakin NEW battery... Slides work, yet NO other 12 volt functions work in the camper (Lights, Fridge, Blower for heater, etc.) I'm seeing 12 volt power leaving the battery, but NO 12 volt power is at the invertor / convertor inside the camper. This ruled out a bad invertor / convertor and led me to believe we had a cut wire somewhere... However the solution was much easier and cost nothing to fix... with that said check out the video for the solution... Thanks for watching!!

    Thanks for this - Camping World telephone support (the number on an inside cabinet door sticker) was of no help for me either. We got to our camping spot that is 1.5 hours away from home and the battery was dead and no 12v. The tech on the phone had me do a bunch of stupid S_i_ that didn't work, it was 100 degrees and about to pour rain, so we unhitched and went home. I'll see if that little 12v circuit breaker is the problem in the morning. I googled this and have a much more clear understanding of 12v RV systems. Tomorrow, I'll check that little button first, then hook up a battery charger to get things going. The slide out covers up the Fridge and the Electrical Panel, so it's serious to get it going first thing in the morning.

      Bummer! I hope it something simple like the breaker. Thanks for watching and let us know what you find out!

    • @DigiPanic
      @DigiPanic 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@MileHighCampers So it wasn't the breaker! Turns out the battery cable that goes from the breaker to the power converter area was crimped between the under-flooring and the I-beam frame right near where it runs up inside the trailer. I was able to pull the wire out about 1/2" so it's not shorting anymore, but it'll need to be re-routed. Got 12v back so we're good to go for the weekend. 2019 Coleman 3rd time camping and about 300 miles.

    This video may be five years old but it is still saving the day. I spent days looking for answers to this issue with my 2011 Palomino Stampede. I was getting ready to start pulling panels apart to look for frayed wires or tow it to the dealer where it would likely cost at least 100 just for the diagnosis. Literally took 30 seconds to crawl under the camper find the button and give it a push. Everything that should work from the battery now works!!!
    I can't say thank you enough!!

    I was SO frustrated with the same problem on my 2018 Winnebago Micro Minnie. Then I watched your video. Dude, if you were here right now, I'd give you the biggest hug, shake your hand, and offer to buy you lunch. My manual switch was in a metal electrical box underneath the trailer. I had to take the cover off and move all the wires just to see the little switch. I would have never found it without this video. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

    My lithium battery voltage had gotten so low (below 9 volts) that the BMS put it to sleep and thus I had no 12-volt power in my RV. Nothing worked. After figuring out how to awaken the lithium battery and recharge it... I still had no 12 volt power to the coach. Now comes the good part. After watching your video I checked under the hood and right there before my eyes was the 12 volt safety breaker with a re-set switch on the side. Pushed it in and Voila... IT WORKED! Problem solved. Thanks

    This is the most effective, simple, and amazing explanation of the issues common amongst campers especially for new owners who purchased campers from private seller. They take off batteries, turn off switches, and do little things inside that's comfy for their needs but forget to tell the new buyer that. Sometimes they don't sell hoses, hide them inside, or take them off before the person picks up but was attached when viewing and purchase. It can send someone into a frenzy especially if they are learning. Thank you for this video. It confirms the very things so many are facing without anyone to speak to or resolve.

    Good video. Keep in mind its not an inverter but a converter. The converter changes AC volts to DC volts and acts to recharge the batteries when working properly. An inverter changes DC voltage to AC voltage to allow you to use low wattage 110v equipment. The manual breakers are referred to as “Short Stop” or “Bussman” breakers.

    Excellent job of describing the problem and the solution. I am sure you saved me several hours of troubleshooting and or replacing a relay that was only tripped as I was unaware of the the little circuit breaker button. All my 12 volt issues resolved with exception as to "why" did it trip. So far it hasnt tripped again but if so I suppose at that time I will have to try and find the underlying issue. Thanks again to you and TH-cam

    • @MileHighCampers
      @MileHighCampers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad the video helped you out! I'm not sure what caused mine to trip but possible causes would be reconnecting a battery, adding connections to the battery for accessories like an electric tongue jack (for example). Could be something as simply as being plugged in at home and power surge that cause your house breaker to trip caused this breaker to trip... or could just be a faulty or dirty breaker possibly. I would retrace your steps over the course of the last time you used it, maybe something like those examples happened... just brain storming, sorry I could not be more help. Thanks for watching and contributing to the conversation!!

    • @MrVanhovey
      @MrVanhovey 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MileHighCampers Most likely it tripped under load when the voltage dropped (lower voltage draws more current). These breakers are designed to prevent your coach from burning down under low DC voltage yet high demand.

    Although you posted this awhile ago there are still some of us who are learning how our campers work. Your video was a big help, so thank you. My travel trailer is set up much the same as yours; these same circuit breakers are located very near the battery which is currently at the front of the trailer. I am considering moving a new replacement lithium battery to the back of the trailer, where it is out of the elements and more secure. So now I have to relocate the wiring and these breakers to keep everything working. It's a bit of a challenge for us non-electrical types.................. Thanks again, Bob in Grand Rapids, MI

    After replacing my battery, reading everything I could about my camper electrical system, searching in vain for schematics on my camper, replacing fuses, and using my multi-meter on everything I could find and coming up empty, I stumbled across your video. Within about 20 seconds I was able to locate my easy to overlook breaker (mine was only an inch or so long) and I am back in business. I was about to buy a new converter though that didn't seem to be the problem. THANK YOU!!!

    Thanks for the video. I didn't find a breaker like you show, I had a faulty on/off switch that would turn off 12V interior trailer functions. I had never seen the switch before (owned the trailer for 8yrs now), just in the frame behind the batteries. The tongue jack would still work and I was getting 12V+ from the batteries. Because of your video, I was able to trace it back to this push/pull switch, that I've since learned is called a disconnect switch. Thanks again for getting me thinking in the right direction.

    You absolutely saved my sanity. I knew my battery was good because I got a reading of 12.56 volts and I knew my converter was working because I got a reading of 13.26 volts but it would not charge the battery and when unplugged from shore power nothing worked but my electrical legs and slide out (they are wired directly to the battery). I did not think this little black piece was a breaker. I thought it was just a notch to hold the plastic pieces together. Thanks Mile High Campers.

    Same problem here. As soon as daylight comes I'm going to look for that little box. I've been leaning towards my battery being bad, but it is new (October 2022) and this problem didn't start until I got the RV back from the dealership for some minor warranty work. I think they did something by accident. I have a 30 amp hookup at my house so I was under the impression that even with no battery at all that everything would work if hooked up to shore power. Frustrating. Thanks!

    Thanks for this video. This pass weekend we were camping. As we packed up and got ready to leave everything was working fine. The last thing I do is roll up the shore power cord. Once i rolled it up the only thing I had left to do was roll in the awning. Behold, it doesn't work. Had to hook up shore power again for it to work. We got home found this video and this morning i went check and sure enough. After resetting it, everything works again. Saved us a service call. Thanks again! . 👍

    Great video. Thank you for explaining the problem in thorough detail. You could've just done a video saying "hey, try pressing this button" and nothing else, but you really explained everything well and provided background so we could all understand what the problem really was. Thanks. Also I wanted to add this- I tripped mine because I accidently hooked up one of the batteries backwards.

    Thank you very much for helping me solve my problem. Right off the positive battery cable was an in-line fuse holder with a blown 40 amp fuse. A friend helped me rewrite a worn out trailer connector which was not done correctly which probably caused the fuse to blow. After correcting the trailer connector is when everything worked correctly except the control panel would not function with battery power. Replaced fuse and everything works perfect. Thanks again!

    I can't thank you enough. After your video I checked the camp trailer again and found someone before I owned it had attached a black cable to that block. So when I put new batteries in I attached it to the negative on the battery and nothing worked. Been fighting it for a couple days.
