Very interesting watching this blog, especially since this was where I worked as a U.S Postal Letter Carrier for over 37 years before retiring in 2002 (Hollywood Post Office on Wilcox near Hollywood Blvd) ..Most of the streets featured here were on my Route. Hollywood was fantastic back then. So many memories watching this and remembering the people I met in my Postal career..
Yes, it WAS a neat trip down memory lane, Jordan. Thanks for taking me around with you. It was very interesting to hear how you started out in Hollywood.
Jordan, Like many others, I found your memory tour of your very first days in Hollywood of much interest. I’ve only been following you for a couple of years or so. I’ve taken an interest in the wonderful things you do and have done for the millions of us who simply love this kind of history and fascinating stories that go along with it all. I have more than once wondered about your personal history, sooo this was a very pleasant and interesting surprise today as now I feel I know you just that little bit better ❣️ Absolutely LOVE Jahs !!!
It’s amazing you stayed in L.A. as long as you did. I’m sure your buddy Jah made it much easier to adjust. I was born and raised in LA County and still had my challenges as a minority in certain neighborhoods where I lived during my childhood and adulthood. But by owning a dog it opened conversations and friendships that otherwise would have been harder to make. With that said, I still love L.A., Glendale, Hollywood, Griffith Park area, Elysian Valley, Burbank, etc etc. and I kept smiling all the way taking in the life experiences and memories. So glad you & Jah survived to take us thru your many journeys. ❤️❤️
Excellent, Excellent, Excellent articulate overview of your first day, week, year, in the often seemingly mythological metropolis of Hollywood. Many personal recollections resurfaced of my own foray into H'wood a while back. Thanks for sharing!
Jordan many people talk about leaving the area they grew up in but few have the gumption to do it, you did it and are still out in California doing your thing, take pride in your achievements and keep it up...I enjoy your vlogs, maybe I'll make it back out there someday.
Well you got your money 's worth out of those shoes New to the channel so I give your channel 8hours a day just to catch up Keep up the good work 👏 👍 😎
Wow! Small world. I just discovered your vlog about two weeks ago. I lived on Orange when you were living on Sycamore, studied at Stella Adler and worked at El Cap when you were at MI. I experienced an apartment hunting situation and almost lived in that Hostel. The area really has changed and it did so very quickly.
Totally enjoy your vlogs, great to see the old neighborhoods there in Hollywood when you walk them. I lived there up to a few years ago and miss the classic old Hollywood. Thank you for such fine work.
I enjoyed your video. I enjoy seeing the sites of California and Hollywood. I have lived in California (Los Angeles, suburb called Azusa.)I really enjoy your daily vlog. Please don't stop doing them. Love them. You do an awesome job and great work.
Hi Jordan I know this is an old vlog . But I really enjoyed going down memory lane with you . I know I'm a total stranger to you . But I feel like your an old friend. And its nice getting to learn a little about you. Thank you for sharing your experiences With me . It is a part of my day I look forward to . And always enjoy seeing Jah.
Awesome Jordan!!! I was born here in LA and your journey 17 yrs ago has added more richness to this city. Now I know what its like to get here and start your life. You had the guts to make it last this long, most would have gone back home. I admire your tenacity and guts! Rock on!
Good Jordan -- IF I MAY ... from a produced screenwriter and script doctor (and proud fellow LEO - August 19th) ... and you may know this in all your years in Hollywood -- DO also WRITE. DO also DIRECT. DO also PRODUCE. This will make the PHONE RING. Make your own films. You can -- even with zero budgie ... and on the little cam you use now. Like PARANORMAL ACTIVITY -- Like BLAIR WITCH ... make the camera a character and that way, you'll 'get away' with the video quality. Proud of you, man. Stick-ability in this -- or any business -- and life -- is what it takes to succeed. Best-! D.A.
I really like the old stuff when you lived in Hollywood so I'm revisiting these videos they are so interesting and informative thank you Jordan for everything you do
Jordan: You had way more of a plan than I did when I moved to L.A. in the summer of 1999. I had enough money for a one-way Greyhound bus ticket from Texas with a little left over for a couple nights in a hotel, and that was it. Angels were definitely watching out for me during that time! I was able to stay for a year and a half, and I've got stories too. :-)
That was neat to see your beginning steps in California. It seemed to me your old area was a lot more busier than your current area. I think you have a lot to be proud of. I couldn't imagine going to a new city by myself especially somewhere like LA where life is totally different. A lot of people can't stay because they can't afford the cost of living. Looks like you have done quite well for yourself.
This is awesome Jordan the lion! CDS of Danzig & Rupaul at Towers! This takes me back to when i first moved to Hollywood in the 80s and getting to know those very streets. Great memories. So many nights at yamashiro, shots and jokes with the view of LA. Love your vlogs, I've been binging on them, thanks! I love LA history stuff, pretty sure the corner of hollywood & highland was a skyscraper kind of bank building before they built the mall, not a gas station. And before the bank building it was the low-key Hollywood Hotel, famous from the earliest days of Hollywood. THANKS for the inspiring videos! All the best to you!
Your videos make me so happy. It was so cool seeing Florentine Gardens LOL I remember when I lived in Hollywood and I knew it was a happening place in the '80s and I always wondered what it looked like inside I'm actually surprised that the building is still there after all these years thank you for making me homesick
Jordan, it is good to reflect on where you have been. Good to think about that and how you would do things differently. It's how we grow! It's also amazing how you life moves on and changes. Cheers!
Wow! I really felt as if I was walking with you! Butterfield's restaurant was across from Tower Records! I had acting classes at Lee Strasburg on Hollywood Blvd. I danced with the LA Ballet! I also lived on Doheny, one block away from Olympic. Once got a birthday day cake at the Jewish bakery! 17? Really? Wow!
Aww that was nice going on a nostalgia trip with you. I really enjoy all your videos. I even find them so interesting even when you tell stories about people I’ve never even heard of. You have such a great knowledge and memory for details and facts. You and Jah are so cute too. 😁🐕👍
Was fun walking down memory lane with you Jordan! Interesting how you came to Hollywood and did all the stuff you did. I give you credit! Thanks for sharing this!!!
I went into MI once in 2011 to check out jazz guitarist John Abercrombie. Haven't been in that area for almost a decade. Nice place to visit but I couldn't live there.
What a great neighborhood! Middle of everything, and you can walk everywhere. Day in the life...awesome vlog! You have come a very long way..and alot more greatness coming! Happy 2019, Jordan!!
Enjoyed this vlog, nice to know some of your life,I was born near where Charlie chaplins home was in Kennington London, also the elephant and castle London x
Great memory lane blog . I wish I could have blogged back when I first moved into town in 1995 . looks like you'll hit 1000 before end week . great job !

im from akron ohio jordan !!!! i lived in monterey carmel from 86 to 90, been to la several times. lived in escondidio in 78, san jose in 79, my mothers girl friend lives on north bedford drive, in your area, she was from akron and moved out to los angeles in 1951, i truly enjoyed this video , and recognize some of the areas, also i went to the rudolph vaalentino annual memorial in 2013!!!! im glad that you are able to with stand the high prices, and all that stuff out there ! im back in ohio, and own a barber shop !!!!!!!
I stayed at the Hollywood Roosevelt. In 1982 with a group from my drama class. We went there for a week long acting and discovery class hosted by Rory and I don’t remember his last name but he was the son of Eva Gabor
make sure you get Jah some good organic dog food not that cheap walmart stuff. Also you can make some brown rice with chicken breast (not flavored) add some boiled broccoli.
I remember when apartments here in L.A. during that time were around $700. In 2001 I was living in N. Hollywood on Chandler Blvd. and was renting a two bedroom apartment for $725.
I'm totally surprised you have not stared in a movie being in Hollywood that long. u have that certain appeal u belong to the public certainly a most likeable guy .
Its funny, I only spent a day and a night in Hollywood and I had a couple of slices at Andre's Pizza....I wish I had more money and time to really explore the area.
Hey Jordan, my name is Judy. My roommates and I actually lived in the Westbury in 1986-1988 (trivia-so did Ivan Neville). We lived in apartment 112. Sounds like you may have lived there too. As far as the place catching on fire, that happened on Christmas Eve either 1987 or 1988. Person who lived in the apartment above us fell asleep with a lit cigarette. We needed to move up to the third-floor because the sprinklers went off in our apartment all night and destroyed the apartment while we were at a Christmas party. Be interesting to hear what else you know about the Westbury.
@Daze with Jordan the Lion (what instrument, you didn't say?) Age 18, from Columbus Ohio, I went to MI class of '84-'85 GIT (Guitar Inst. Tech.). The last year of the former 'Actors Studio' location above the Wax Museum. Dude you would have loved it! So many vibes. I lived on Yucca St. at Highland in the Hollywood Royale apartments. Paid $450mo for my furnished studio apartment. I loved Hollywood's history! Funny though, I didn't become a true Early Hollywood Film buff until TCM came along. I lived in Hollywood for five years. First job was The Donut Stop right next door in the strip mall on Highland at Yucca (full North section of the L). I sold Bob Dylan two orange iced cake donuts. I also had his former optometrist. An old man in '85...the eye doc that is. I made Bo Diddley's dinner two nights in a row , my boss expanded the shop into half of the store donuts, the other half "Bob's Famous Philly Steaks" and we made breakfast food as well. I loved the fast pace grill cook life! To this day I can make dinner in 5 minutes. lol Bob built and opened a second location at the NE literal corner of Santa Monica Blvd & Highland ave. (me being first person to fire up the cash register, and it's never stopped) This shop was used throughout the film TANGERINE (2015). It looks exactly the same as when we opened 30 years earlier in 1985! Identical, save for the soda cooler on the left wall ( and it has new name). Since the movie it appears they've done major internal and external changes though. The movie is true to life. That corner was ground zero for male prostitution. Only difference is I didn't let people come in arguing. I had a billy club and my old baker Ray had a pistol in the back of his apron. One thwack! on the counter and stoic, pale, skinny, faded green tattooed Ray would stroll out and turn around so they'd see his pistol. Nobody loud in our aquarium. So many things to do and see in Hollywood. I've played guitar in many bands, but Los Angeles hair metal of the '80's only turned me off. GNR was sort of a breakthrough, but still not me. I like Black Sabbath, The Doors, The Dead Kennedys, and Slayer...still do. I've been in several bands, but in 1996 I discovered Organ. I bought a 1960's Lowrey Heritage DSO1 and that was it!
