I think the main problem with it, from wotc's point of view, is the game comes with "all" the cards counteracting the money pit collectable aspect of mtg.
Holy shit Shandalar, this was a hidden gem when I was a kid. It inadvertently introduced me to Magic while I was in a Diablo 1 / Warcraft 1 /2 and dos games . Nostalgia!
link in despcription. On right it says ISO Image, this is the file. Run the installer, then you'll end up with a icon on desktop. Run in compatability mode for your OS. Mine is Win10 and I have to run in windows vista service pack 2 compatability mode to get it to work.@@AutumnReel4444
I would love a modern version of a game like this. The roguelike deck building in a magic game sounds really fun. It's like a single player draft. Idk what cards they would have, maybe this standard or some powerful eternal format cards.
You can find the version of shandalar with 2016 cards, and another guy made a randomizer script for enemy decks you can find it on Google with some digging.
For some reason I haven't got the base game to work but I did find the fan modded version with cards until 2015 and that one somehow does work on my computer.
I'm going to guess some/all of these you might already know, but for others here some tips for Shandalar. Double clicking on yours or the opponent's battlefield will rearrange it to a more organized state. Once there's a second level of cards, you can rearrange that row in 3 different positions. If a Town is asking to Trade Amulets for X, once you close out of that the Reward for the Town's Quest will be the same thing. This applies to any Offer a Town is offering. Buy food from towns that want 15 gold, and sell your cards at the places that are asking for more than 15. Manually Tap your Lands often especially if it's a Dual. The AI will incorrectly do so most of the time. Going into a Dungeon with only 1 Creature in your deck will guarantee that Creature being the only one the Dice will choose. You can and should still have other copies in the deck. Contract From Below is Legal and can be played in multiples.
My fav build to run tron lands in this game is with black vices, ivory towers, howling mines, meekstone, wheel of fortune, and burn spells, with just a few top end artifact creatures like trike, with the midrange being icys and juggs is my personal fav. I love that you are almost doing the same thing here
I played this ALOT. if you put 60 cards in your deck you'll be able to play 4 copies of each card. Even better, once you get the artifact that gives you extra copies, your actually able to put as many copies as you want. I made a deck with 20 mountains, 20 lightning Bolts and 20 ball lightning. Hint: Keep gold and amulets for special vendor that sells any card for amulettes or gold. Have fun.
This made me laugh so hard at the 3:40:00 when you couldn't use the red mana and then you fireballed yourself instead. LOL. Oh, how the travails of the Land of Shandalar never get old! I knew that was gonna glitch once you used the Black Lotus, haha so funny old games.
This feels even more unstable than the original version. You certainly remind me of my style of response to some of the more extreme issues that happened (like losing a battle), though I went in for white lifegain decks (ridiculous in dungeons), dark ritual/hyppie decks, or a winter orb/howling mine/black vice deck to burn out the opponents.
Arena: "I'd rather spend your final point of life on a spell than tap your mana dork." Shandalar: "Hold my beer. I'm gonna randomly tap an extra land just to kill you with mana burn."
It was a long time ago I last played this game but I don't remember the interface being merely as janky with stuff not clicking as so on. I probably ran it on an emulator though knowing me
"I don't have enough lands!" >Continues to not buy mountains This is why people think land screw happens. You actually have to design your deck properly, especially with the old mulligan rules.
Wait... You can actually get a monocolored starting deck? Back when I played, I got some 5-color junk that made starting out extremely obnoxious. ...Is it a difficulty level thing?
Damn. The interface really does just randomly say "screw you!" And, how does anyone EVER trust an autotapper?!? Those things consistently screw players.
Good to see they finally updated the Magic Online UI
There's something Magical about Shandalar. Game is just perfectly imperfect in every way.
Probably all the mana and spells and stuff
Sat on my dad’s lap watching him play this as a kid. Better than any other magic experience I’ve had
I think the main problem with it, from wotc's point of view, is the game comes with "all" the cards counteracting the money pit collectable aspect of mtg.
David Blaine levitated once.

Watched you play this on LRR, downlaoded it and have been having a blast ever since. Thanks for reminding me it existed. Good day sir.
My googling was unfruitful in providing an understandable guide to downloading this glorious game.

Like slay the spire but with magic cards
Last time I played there were mods to add in modern cards and it all worked pretty good
The third party mtg engine Forge has an adventure mode that's basically a spiritual successor
Try the forge rules engine. Has an implementation of the shandalar rpg with every card ever, and decent AI.

Ahhh kids these days, I played this game so much back in the 90's, I still fire it up from time to time, I love it!
Me too!
12:40 Bird Maiden!
Creature types: Bird Maiden!
Smile: amazing!
The fireball to own face was beautiful
Couldn’t stop laughing
Benalish Hero into double Holy Strength, literally unbeatable.
I can't get enough of you playing this game rn
I was not expecting it in any way, shape or form but this is such a blast to watch 😊
This has been the best 4 hours of my life
Bro I'm 30 minutes in, I've never heard of this game. And I love this.
Still to this day the best digital mtg ever made ❤🔥
Hells yeah! More Shandalar!
Big fan of this! Thank you
Love Shandalar, was just playing it two weeks or so ago. Thanks for streaming

oh wow im stoked for this
This game is so awesome , I wish they’d remake it
3:09:33 this is the second time I've ever heard of that card, and the first I've ever seen it be cast. Don't think it gets much better than that lmao

ugh, the coin flip sound brings back such nostalgia of playing this in the late 90s
and my best opening hand in the game was with my black deck - double Dark Ritual, Hypnotic Specter, and two Unholy Strengths.
I love tron decks
I still have this CD on my shelf
I cracked it :D :D , Shandalar is mario cart of MTG, unfair but funny
Even after all these years Shandalar is still the best magic game. A refreshed version would make Wotc a shit ton of money.

Omg the memories
Oh man this has got me hooked and playing too now. When I play the biggest bug the game has is that I can't buy cards from towns
Awesome I'll try it tonight. Will make the game much less challenging
Little known fact, if your deck is under 40 cards, it'll fill the missing slots with random basics
I used to olay this game! So many memories!
Hot pockets and burned roof of mouth was how i rolled!
Arena: "I'd rather spend your final point of life on a spell than tap your mana dork."
Shandalar: "Hold my beer. I'm gonna randomly tap an extra land just to kill you with mana burn."
The more things change the more they stay the same. Never trust the autotapper.
I liked playing black in this
Came here to watch someone good play shandalar. Fireball yourself to 1 life hahahaha, I didn't expect to laugh this hard too! Lmao
Why aren't they making games like these THIS IS AWESOME !
i’ve never clicked on a video faster
AH YES, good memories of ganking Moxen from random dragons using Bronze Tablets.
"I don't need that thing, I never lose what I ante"
>loses taiga right afterwards
Take a look at MTG forge. A modern Shandalar alike
The ballad of Shrextra Large
Its funny to hear from people that dont know the old rules that no longer exist. Always fun to explain Rampage.
1:24:37 you can't just suddenly hit me with a Demons soul quote
Need more Shandalar
Does the hand get moved from under your camera?
"Okay Wheeler, show us your best impression of Colossus's yell from the X-Men arcade game"
Wheeler: 2:36:15
It was a long time ago I last played this game but I don't remember the interface being merely as janky with stuff not clicking as so on. I probably ran it on an emulator though knowing me
Where can I see the save file with kind ape
"I don't have enough lands!"
>Continues to not buy mountains

3:24:46
😊
I always build a stasis deck when i play shandalar
Wait... You can actually get a monocolored starting deck? Back when I played, I got some 5-color junk that made starting out extremely obnoxious.
...Is it a difficulty level thing?
Yes, easiest difficulty is mono-colored.
Damn. The interface really does just randomly say "screw you!" And, how does anyone EVER trust an autotapper?!? Those things consistently screw players.
New edh play group, apparently no artifacts and no blue allowed, meanwhile the other three are playing mono green 😮😂
Imagine if Chandra Nalaar went to Shandalar to buy a chandelier.
Always be yourself, unless you can be Shrek, then be Shrek
I did not know I wanted to watch this :D OG! Should become a mobile game hehe
You should try MTG Forge
The red power creep jeez and people thought t1 Ragavan was gonna ruin the game...well Magic is done for
.... Interesting...
I have played too much of this game, how about Unstable Mutation aggro?
Painful to see cards sold at the poor village instead of market and bazaar for their best price.
By far my favorite MTG experience, and I've been playing since Beta and hit mythic arena when i have lots of time to grind for nothing.
Meow
Just paid gold to an Ape
The game cheats. It would be much better for it to use random numbers.
How did you make it run? On every system I try to run it, there's horrible resolution issues
I just realized today as a full grow adult that the they’re called tron lands because of voltron 🫥
