I have the system and I read the back of the trousers with a separate yoke where you cut on the dividing line and add seam allowance to both sections on the cut line. The line drawing shows a seam. The trousers look great, fit though the leg fab.
Thanks Audrey, I didn't mention in the video but in the end that's what I did. I realise the pieces should be split after looking at a normal pattern. I know for next time though that is what they mean. Thanks for your comments and for watching 😊
I think it is also taking your waist measurement also as a rough guide for a garment of this type and you can do some grading when drafting if necessary. I saw this in one of the videos produced by Lutterloh.
Oh that's really interesting. The original idea of Lutterloh was you only needed 2 measurements to get the perfect fit and that was their selling point so this is obviously not proving to be the case anymore. That may be why the trousers I made past Autumn didn't really work. That's for that info, I will look into it. Thanks for taking the time to comment 😊

Wow I really did think that fabric was growing with every stitch! Hopefully with another wash it will sort itself out and they are really comfy anyway☺️. Thanks for your lovely comments.
Thank you for posting your Lutterloh Journey! I love Lutterloh, but it is a new learning curve. LOL!!! When a pattern piece like the back of the trousers (or princess seams) has a solid line going through it this actually means it is 2 pattern pieces and part of those 2 pieces fit perfectly together. In the case of your pants you should have a yoke and lower part of the pants leg. As with any pattern you have to adjust to get your true fit…learning curve. I am 70 years old (sewing for 60 years) and with every new pattern company I have a learning curve in reading the pattern pieces, instructions or lack there of, and adjusting to fit my body. I hope this makes sense. It is an adventure that I love taking! Have a blessed day!
Thank you so much for all your advice. I realised after I did the trouser video that the two pieces were meant to be separate so thanks so much for clarifying that. I have been so lucky with the Big 4 patterns as they never need any alteration on me hence I was a little bemused that these did, however, the fabric was probably more stretchy than it should have been. I don't very often do the new pattern companies as I have grown up with the Big 4 and I know their sizing. I have ventured into Lutterloh to actually test myself in proving to I do have the knowledge and I can work without instructions! Carole, your pants are so cute. I love the buttons on the legs. I think you are right, elastic in the back will hold them in and the rest of the pants fit so well. Great job. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Carol, after wearing the trousers for a few hours elastic is definitely needed but to be honest I do that on a lot of store bought trousers anyway! What I’m sad about is the fact I have never had to do that with any I’ve made, I must have slipped up somewhere. Glad I put the buttons back on if you think they look ok 😊. Enjoy your weekend x
When you pointed o ut the BZ piece on the pants, it looks like it might be the back yoke piece for a jeans style pant. Not sure of course, but that's what it looked like at a glance. Have just discovered your videos and enjoying watching them. thank you for taking the time to make them!

Love your trousers Carole, they look great and comfy too. Just a thought about sewing stretch denim, perhaps cut a size smaller. When I've bought stretch denim pants in the past, the sales assistant always advised buying a size smaller than your usual size because the fabric grows so much when wearing. Once I did that I never had a problem with baggy stretch denim pants. I'm enjoying this series.❤❤❤

This pair has turned out to be a pair I wear a lot as they are so comfy! Thanks for the tip, I'll remember that when I sew with stretchy denim next time. Thanks for watching 😊
I think you did incredibly well and should be super proud of yourself. 😇👏👏. Ok, so you’ve got some waist fitting issues, but that can easily happen with the big four patterns and could have occurred here for any number of reasons as you said. This was your first attempt !!The top you’re wearing covers the “problem” area, but the fit everywhere else is super. Given all the issues in using a Lutterloh pattern, you should be super proud of yourself Carole. I am filled with admiration. Well done you 🤗 x
That's so kind of you Shelly, I almost gave up right at the beginning as just couldn't work out the plotting but I'm glad I persevered! I do have a nice comfy pair of trousers to wear and as you say, something over the top hides the baggy bits 🤣. Thanks so much for watching my trials and tribulations 😊
You know...while watching your video, I started thinking that I could never be able to draft my own pattern like this. Seems really complicated. I do need to alter just about every pattern I work on but I don't think I'd ever be able to draft a pattern from scratch. You did good on the trousers. If they stay too loose at the waist, I would be tempted to just take the waist part in a bit on each side and angle the seam in to the side seams. Like you said, you don't normally wear a tucked in top so nobody would see the extra stitching or anything. Hope you're having a great week!
Thanks Deb. I'm going to wash them again on a hotter wash then decide what to do, probably as you say take them in a little more at the sides. I'm pleased with them though. Still love proper patterns, much less taxing on the brain. Hope you got some time to sew today 👏🏼🪡🧵😘
No sew time today; maybe tomorrow. Today I was busy clearing out cupboards to make room for the new pots & pans. I had one pile made to toss and another pile to donate.
I think they look awesome! It’s a good start if anything! I had the same thing with the waistband gaping away from the back on the last pair of jeans I made Darren, drove me mad. That I think was using a stretch denim that never recovered properly. Annoying thing was everything was flat felled seams and I couldn’t unpick and take them in so he has to wear with a belt which he doesn’t like, so I’ll have to make another pair 🤦♂️
Thanks Adam. I'm going to do a trick with the back of the trousers I end up doing with most store bought ones and that is insert a piece of elastic at the back, because I wear tops over the top it won't show and look like old lady jeans 🤣. If you don't know the trick let me know and I'll send you a link. I started off making them as jeans then gave up when realised the fabric was too soft 🤣. Thanks for watching 👖🧵🤗
Hello again. Thanks for solving that puzzle for me, I think I did work that out in the end but now I know that a solid line does mean to cut the two separate pieces that helps with so many other designs. Lutterloh is such a learning curve for me as all my sewing life I have just followed patterns! You are very kind as to take the time to help me 😊🧵
These pants are made for a fuller figure. That is what the black dress form shape on the page signifies. The pants are too big in the waist for two reasons: 1. You used the fuller figure pattern. And 2.the back piece is a yoke. Solid line denote cutting lines. You should have drafted that yoke as a separate piece and then added seam allowance to the waist seam of the pants and to the yoke. I have been sewing with Lutterloh since the 80s. I often have to make small adjustments such as length and shirt waist. And if you “read “ the pattern, you will se markings or letters showing you sewing order and what goes where.
Thank you so much for your feedback and advice Susan. I did the back piece as a yoke as I copied a similar Burda pattern. The denim was extremely stretchy and soft so most probably unsuitable, however I ended up with a pair of trousers I wear again and again, they are so comfortable so maybe I do have a fuller figure 🤣. I was given this system by my Mother who bought it back in the 70's. She felt so guilty about never using it I said I would give it a go. I am still very much learning and I really do appreciate your feedback. Thanks again for taking the time to message me. 😁

I would definitely give it a go and there are a few TH-cam videos out there with more professional people showing how to use it! I do enjoy the plotting part and as long as your first attempt is simple then you should definitely give it a go! Let me know if you do ☺️
The final cropped version actually looks pretty good 💞 the crotch area looks like it wants to bunch up a bit, not sure what would cause that🤷♀️ but kudos to you for attempting such a complicated system. I enjoy learning through your Lutterloh journey 🙌
Hi Carmen, I think the front bunches up as it’s just too high waisted on me but my main concern is the waistband that’s still a little roomy. I am pleased with them so will add some elastic in the back I think. I do a trick with store bought trousers to solve the same problem funnily enough. Thanks for following my journey into this mysterious world of Lutterloh! ☺️
You are obviously still not convinced about the pants but, speaking as someone on who ready to wear pants always sit oddly, I actually think they look good. I see what you mean about the waistline, but with a top untucked over the top I really think they are a win!
Thank you, I think in the end I will add some elastic in the back to help bring it in a little and I suppose if it’s that high waisted at least it doesn’t dig into me when I sit. Thanks for watching ☺️
Hi Diane and thank you. I didn’t need to alter the crotch depth no, that was fine but I don’t need to with bought patterns luckily. The main problem was they were so high waisted, not a problem with things hanging over though👏🏻Thanks for watching. ☺️
Hello and thanks for watching. I would agree with you that this system isn't really for beginners actually. The kit does come with basic instructions but I think it would still be too off putting if you have never sewn before. I still only stick to the easy garments! 🧵😊
Carole, I don’t know if this makes a difference, but the pattern you chose is designed for plus size, which may be why you had issues. The dark dress form on the pattern means it’s a plus.
Thank you Charlotte I will definitely look into that, I thought the dark dress form meant it was suitable for but not meant solely for plus sizes. That could answer my questions about the waist being more generous. They more or less fit so I’m happy, maybe a bit of elastic in the back may help let’s see! 😊
I thank you for your comment and criticism but if you read my description of the video you can see that these videos are following me on my journey and not designed to be a demo for Lutterloh or 'sell' it in anyway. I had been gifted this system from my Mother and am just using it to make her happy. Please refer to my earlier videos and you will see I am learning it as I go. There are many other TH-camrs out there that actually give proper demonstrations on how to use and work the system, I would encourage you to watch those as I myself have done. SewVeryEasy did a fantastic one and she refers to it as the 'Golden Rule' I hope you can find it. I am sorry that my channel was not quite what you wanted.

Hi Diane and thank you. I didn’t need to alter the crotch depth no, that was fine but I don’t need to with bought patterns luckily. The main problem was they were so high waisted, not a problem with things hanging over though👏🏻Thanks for watching. ☺️
Hi Carol I have heard that there is a Facebook group if you are on FB 😊
Thank you for that Angela, I had no idea so I will definitely check that out. Any help will be very welcome 😅. Thanks again.
I assume the system is not for beginner sewists as it does not tell you how and what pieces together like a normal pattern?
Omg, this is so not good presentation..!why no step by step demo?? Big disappointment…please, so far I had faith in your system before seeing this…
I thank you for your comment and criticism but if you read my description of the video you can see that these videos are following me on my journey and not designed to be a demo for Lutterloh or 'sell' it in anyway.
