  • Using the Lutterloh system that was gifted to me by my Mother I attempt in this video to make up a pair of jeggings/trousers from Supplement 325 - View 4. Come along with me on my journey to create a pair of wearable trousers which wasn't easy!
    The Lutterloh system is also known as the Golden Rule. Please check out my other videos that I have made on this subject for more details on how do create the patterns.
    Thanks for watching

    May I say I am so glad that you are doing these Lutterloh videos and my Lutterloh searches is how I found your channel. I recently bought the Lutterloh system and I even have the exact same Supplement that you are using. I've been watching your progress and hopefully that will help me get the courage to finally sew my first Lutterloh project. Also, thanks for the great idea about the stick on dots for the right side of fabric. Such a simple thing yet I've never thought of it. Love your videos!

      Hello Mary, thank you so much for finding me and for watching. I wish you luck with the system and that is a great supplement. I think I made something else from that as well. If you are on Facebook there is a wonderful Lutterloh page full of Sewists using the system and lots of hints and tips, I would certainly suggest finding that. I would be lost without my sticky dots believe me 🤣. Good luck and keep me updated on your progress 😊🧵

    Great job Carole!
    I've been enjoying each Lutterloh journey you've taken us through.
    For these pant, other than the process of creating your own pattern, once you sew the pieces together, the fitting process is the same as any regular pattern.
    Stick with it! Looking forward to seeing what other garment you can create with the Lutterloh☺

      Thank you. You are exactly right about the fitting but I suppose I expect not to have to do that as they claim that just using though two measurements magically they will fit perfectly. It wouldn't bother me with a pattern I bought 🤣. I will definitely stick with it as it is so fun to plot out. Thanks again 🧵😊

    I sew with luterlol and when you are sewing with stretchy fabric you need to estimate how much % it’s stretch, and you always need to go down 1 or 2 dimensions you took from your hips or bust
    And you’ll see it’s a perfect fit
    Also the waist band you did for the inside need to be a little bit smaller than the trousers, so that way it sticks on you, and if you have a small belly it help
    😊

    • @socarole66
      @socarole66  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you so much for your great suggestions! I have to say this fabric was way too stretchy though for the pattern. A normal stretch denim would not have caused anywhere near the same problems. It was a ridiculous amount of stretch if I remember! I did not know that about sizing down so that is really helpful. Thanks again 😊🧵

    I don’t have this system but it fascinates me. Please continue with a project now and again. I wonder why there aren’t more sewing details. Did the creators assume an above average experienced sewer would using the system? As usual, your finished project fits you perfectly. Just adorable.

      @socarole66  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Susan. The whole thing fascinates me when I use it too and it is good to have a go at every now and again. It was designed in the 1930s when practically every lady knew how to sew therefore no instructions needed! There is a very basic manual which tells you how to do certain things but not pattern specific. It certainly gets the brain cogs working 😅. I don't understand why they don't adapt the system now for the modern and new sewist, just one design perhaps with instructions a bit like the Burda magazines. Perhaps I should write to Mr Lutterloh😆. Thanks for watching 🧵😊

    It's interesting to watch you work with your Lutterloh system. I think my mother also had that system in the 1970s. After I watch you work with yours it makes me wish I'd kept it when I closed down her home. Sadly, she didn't have the success you've had and I all I can remember is the struggle and frustration she had to get patterns made and I just couldn't see myself having the patience. I did get several pairs of knickers and a slip or two that she made from the system that I probably wore for 20 years, so all wasn't lost! Congratulations on your trousers. I also had my doubts that the seat of those were ever going to fit! lol

      Thanks Diane. Sadly I don't remember my Mum using the system but she does remember making a little coat for me from it, the pattern isn't in the book though so she must not have replaced it back which is a shame. She did make other things then put it away feeling guilty for 50 years! I'm so glad I am using it for her sake 🥰. How wonderful you did get some pieces from it that you remember. For me it's an every now and again type of project, fun to do and keep my brain cogs working 🤣. Like you said, the bottom part looked enormous but sadly that wasn't the part that didn't fit!! Thanks so much for your comment 😊🧵

It was a lot of money when my Mum bought it and can't believe it still is! Systems do come up on EBay and I know Jen picked one up very cheaply on Etsy I think. A great make. I’m sure they’ll be really comfortable for wearing round the house and snuggling up on the sofa. They look smarter than leggings too. I think you could easily dress these up with a smart top and some boots. I love watching your Lutterloh makes. I’m still pondering the system myself, especially as I often need to make adjustments to commercial patterns to fit my shape. I just need more experience in dressmaking construction first.

      Thanks Ann. You are right they are exactly suited to wearing about the house, just smarter than leggings. They would look nice with the right boots I suppose, I hadn't thought of that. The trouble with Lutterloh is that you need to be a self sufficient sewist and that's why I chose the easy stuff 🤣. Many normal pattern instructions could be relevant though if in trouble! @@socarole66Hi Carole. I’ve just watched this again as I was unsure how the system works with jersey fabric and negative ease (as you may recall I’ve just purchased the system and am awaiting delivery. I note also from my previous comment that I was considering this system. I’ve been thinking about it for a while it seems 😂). I’m sure it will mention this in the instructions 🤔. I wasn’t sure if you used a smaller seam allowance or maybe no seam allowance if it’s very stretchy.

      @@annscott4031 please let me know if it does say in the instructions. My set is from the 1970's and says barely anything 🤣. Very interesting to see your experience with making up a pants pattern with NO instructions, NO guidance with required fabric stretch and (I assume) NO pattern piece layout instructions for the fabric. Makes one ask why anyone would buy the Lutterloh system. Just seems like it lacks too much instruction even for an average level garment sewist. Can't imagine trying to make a more complicated garment using that system. Very easy to understand why YT sewist videos for this pattern system are few and far between. After all your adjusting and such, the pants turned out great and fit you well! Was nice to see how your adjustments to the fit kept improving the overall fit. Well done! Great video, Carole.

    Hey Carole, the stretch does have something to do with it ..... i have posted this link to download a stretch guide that you can print out and laminate .....with commercial patterns if you have a lot of stretch you normally would go down a size or 2 .....but its hard with TGR as it goes of measurements :( i've had mine for about 10years and i've never used it lol i just bought one of the mens supplements though so i'm going to give it a go. Did you use the instructions when sewing it together?

      Hello and thanks so much for your comments. I think with this garment I should have used better fabric and not the Bengaline. I don't know what I was thinking of using a fabric with such stretch properties, next time I would use a stretch denim! As with every project I learn so much so my time wasn't wasted. You asked if I used the instructions when sewing it together, there are none I just constructed it using my previous sewing knowledge and that worked out well it was just the horrid fabric.
      I will try and search out the stretch guide you have, I find the Lutterloh Facebook group so good for information like that. On a side note, I have just made my Husband a t shirt and he says it's the best fitting one he has ever had! Thanks for taking the time to watch. 🧵😊

I've just got a new supplement i'm going to try and make something because i ain't ever used it hehe lol

    The fabric has a lot of strech. You should go down one size in the waist and hip

      Thanks for your comment. I hadn't thought about reducing the measurement to use in the tape, that is a really good idea for next time thank you. If I was doing a paper pattern I would have automatically sized down so why didn't I think of that?! 🧵😊

      Thank you for your comment. I wanted to make tight trousers like leggings but they ended up being too big. I think the TH-cam translation may have been wrong or the way I talked about them in the video made you think I didn't want them to be tight.
      The problem was the fabric and not the pattern and I would like to try this with some stretch denim.
      I am so pleased to hear you like Lutterloh and have had success with your patterns ❤. Thank you so much for watching 😊🧵
