  • In this video I have explained how crop lenses works on full frame camera. Here I have used Sigma 16mm f1.4 with my new Sony a7iv camera body. This lens is great for crop sensor camera we all know but is it good for a7iv or full frame? Watch full video to find out more!

    Here’s a trick as whenever I use the 16mm sigma on my A7IV, I’m always in FF mode in video. When you have “Active Stabilization On”, it does a slight crop image regardless what lens you use. That slight crop eliminates most of the Vignetting. In post, add a 8% crop to be exact and boom, a perfect clip with a final 19/20 mm field of view which looks amazing! Oh…& there’s also clear zoom too!

      Also, if you don't wanna crop in post so that you can maintain a full 4k resolution clip, with Active Stabilization on, select Clear Image zoom & spin the cursor wheel 1 click to 1.1x's & boom, all the vignetting is gone! Then no need to crop at all still giving a 19mm field of view!

    Glad you also mentioned the F/Stop is also x 1.5, and the MP count is 33 / (1.5 * 1.5), many people forget the square law. That's why I moved from A7III to A7IV, to get the 33MP for use with APS-C lenses as well as FF lenses.
    Knowing all this, I grabbed the Sony APS-C 70-350mm G lens to pair with my A7 IV for travel. This with my full frame 24-105mm gives me a very versatile set up with just two lenses. The 70-350 is ultra light weight and produces spectacularly sharp 105- 525mm equivalent, 14.66 MB images which when scaled up to full frame size are excellent. Not up to my 200-600mm G lens, which is ludicrously heavy, but close.

    I did some tests between (A) A6400 sigma 16/30, (B) A7 IV sony 24-70 gm FullFrame, (C) A7 IV sigma 16/30 APS-C mode. (B) was sharpest, (A) very close behind, and (C ) unfortunately looks much more „muddy“ if you compare it side by side. My take awaay from it: The image quality/sharpness is directly dependend on the oversampling resolution: (B) 7k, (A) 6k, (C ) 4.6k. That being said, I‘ll use the sigma 16 on the A7 IV without hesitation if I need wide angle slowmo, but if I need the highest sharpness e.g. for cropping in later, I‘ll try to use FullFrame as much as possible. I gotta say, I love how I can use all these lenses interchangeably on E-Mount, gives me the confidence that I‘m prepared for any scenario. Also, if you‘re interested, Using Active stabilitation in FullFrame mode on the A7 IV crops in just enough or very close on the sigma 16 so you don‘t see the vignette anymore, pretty neat ;)

    If it is equivalent to a 24mm f 2 full frame, then isnt the sony's native FE 28mm f 2 way cheaper than this? Third party lenses would never come anywhere near to native sony lenses when it comes to the new sony AF systems. Would you recommend?

    • @digitalclips
      @digitalclips 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, the full frame would be better, but, it can come down to size and weight in many circumstances. In my case I own both the 200-600mm G and the APS-C 70-350mm G (105-525mm equivalent) and one is for local and one for travel with my A7 IV. The 70-350mm is tiny and very light weight, the 200-600mm is a beast.

    • @juandjo707
      @juandjo707 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I use Sigma 16mm & 30mm on A7C. Not for photos but great for video. For example, if you're recording 30fps 4K and doing stabilization in Catalyst Browse afterwards, you don't need clear image zoom crop. Otherwise 1.1x clear image zoom is needed to avoid vignetting (30fps 4k has 1.2x crop default recording).
      So 0.2x is what you get (vs apsc). That may not seem much but Sigma 16mm is like having 21mm f2, and Sigma 30mm like 40mm f2 on full frame (Sony A7C), which is great considering the price-quality ratio.
      There is only one drawback when using clear image zoom, eye detection is disabled. And if eye detection is required then apsc mode must be used.

    • @iamakkkshay
      @iamakkkshay 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      See for an example that the aperture of your phone camera is f/1.8 but in reality the lens diameter is nowhere close to a f/1.8 full frame lens.
      Then how can it be same.
      The answer is that f/1.8 in phone is for that small 1/2" inch sensor but when you put that lens infront of a full frame sensor than it is equivalent to f/16 approx.

    • @didgeproject
      @didgeproject 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@iamakkkshay but for the iphone lens with the iphone sensor, is an f/1.8 aperture still effectively a 1.8 aperture as far as low light and depth of field performance?

    • @iamakkkshay
      @iamakkkshay 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@didgeproject Nope.
      You may need something like f/0.08 there on iphone to get equivalent f/1.8 aperture bokeh of 35mm full frame (just for refrence,not to scale).
      But physically it is impossible to create such a wide open lens as it might take a lot more space & tons of optical issues as I think that require tons of R&D to fix.

    • @gamepat9
      @gamepat9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The amount of light is exactly the same, the light transmission of the lens doesn’t change. So it‘s still like a F1.4 on a Full Frame camera, so it‘s still a low light Monster. But because it’s cropped in, the bokeh blurryness is more like a F2 lens

  • @francescoberta
