    it's a great lens. It's really good and low light performance is amazing. It even resurrected my a5000. But there is one thing to remember! For vloggers, be sure to attach external mic. AF motor noise from Sigma 16mm is so high that you will be having trouble without external mic. Most reviewers are already using external mic so this problem is often overlooked or forgotten. And when it comes to stabilization, we already know Sony's stabilization is almost useless for video.

      Would something like the Rode Video Micro be good with this lens? I just picked it up and realized my Sony 35mm lens is actually too far away to pick up clear audio, so my finger is on the trigger to buy this 16mm.

    Excellent overview of this lens! I have a similar Sony a6400 setup but wanted to know if you recorded this video wide open (at F1.4)? Any tips on good outdoor video recording with a ND filter (during the day)? Thanks!

    • @JoelFreck
      @JoelFreck 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've saw a fellow in my city use it for pro videos with an ND filter during the day and he can stay at 1.4 all day long, he just uses Zebra lines to assist when things would be blown out way too much, makes enhancing/color correcting a breeze I guess.

    • @PurposedLensPhotoMedia

      The Sigma 30 mm is a great lens however, as you mentioned it can be too tight to use indoors within a tiny space.
      The Sigma 16mm 1.4 will give you much more room to play around with! The great thing about this lens is how wide the aperture is (the ability to shoot in low light and get shallow depth of field or a blurry background.)
      The Kit lens is also a great lens as well. It's cheap but can zoom from 16-50mm. Although it would be as great in low light, it's still something that I think can be very useful! Check out my video on the kit lens!

    1st-rate review man, thanks. I appreciate the way you don't waste time, but inform us that we're looking at the lens from the very beginning, and use B roll with captions: "ZV-E10 with..." And now I know (if I do get an APSC Sony) that I will want an ND filter to go with this Sigma, why I want it, and exactly what kind of ND filter to get. Great info, straightforward, clear and concise. You should run a clinic for other TH-camrs on how to present this stuff. Subscribed.

    Really is a fine lens, and it works well for astrophotography as well. My one complaint is it is a bit noisy when focusing, in quiet situations the mic can pick it up.

    • @PurposedLensPhotoMedia
      @PurposedLensPhotoMedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s is a great lens!
      I actually haven’t had any issues with the lens being noisy at all. 🤔
      Then again I use a microphone with a shock mount so that will reduce vibrations and anything that causes the body of the camera to resonate.

    Excellent review, it was exactly what I was looking for. Today, in 2024, that lens in Argentina costs $669, and the Sony F1.4 G Series 15mm costs $849. Which one would you recommend buying? Is that price difference worth it? Thank you very much!

    • @PurposedLensPhotoMedia
      @PurposedLensPhotoMedia  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Honestly I haven't tested the Sony 15mm 1.4. From the content I have seen, there's not a perceivable difference between the two. The Sigma is a bit heavier and bigger however, it's also cheaper.
      So it comes down to Price, size and weight. Depending on what you are shooting, those things may or may not matter to you..
      I wish you the best!

      @@PurposedLensPhotoMedia Thank you very much for the response! 80% video and 20% photography, I am a content creator for social media and companies. Since I already have a 35mm, I wanted to add a lens with these specifications. I know Sony has features that give it a plus, but I'm not sure if it's enough to justify the nearly $200 difference. So I'll probably buy the Sigma, which I've seen has very good reviews and video tests.

    16mm at APS-C is definitely wide angle. Considering the crop factor, its equivalent to about 24mm full frame, which puts it on the widest end of "standard wide" (24mm - 35mm).

    Can you make the background "Clear" as well with this lens? Or is it just blurry all the time?

    • @PurposedLensPhotoMedia
      @PurposedLensPhotoMedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes you can!
      This is controlled by something in the lens called aperture blades.
      Just like your eyes have and iris that opens and closes, camera lenses have the same type mechanism.
      When the iris (aperture) of your eye opens up, it lets in more light. This also gives you the blurred out background.
      The distance of an object from your lens/eye will also cause this as well.
      Close one eye, and put your hand 🤚🏽 close to your eye and look at it.
      Notice that behind your hand is out of focus and your hand is in focus!
      When you move your hand away from your eye it becomes “in focus” with everything else.
      The camera lens works the same way.
      I hope this helps!
      I may do a video on aperture and some of the basics of lenses and photography!

      Generally I shoot with NO picture profiles. I sent my white balance and exposure accordingly. If I am shooting outside, I almost ALWAYS use an ND filter to control the look I am going for.
      I will then apply some post processing depending on the look I am going for. You can check out my latest video (linked below) for a part of my workflow with the Sony ZV-E10.

      I typically don’t use any picture profiles.
      At the start of the video I give all my settings. 😊
      I typically just start with a custom white balance using a grey card!
      I use grey card on the light that’s lighting my face.
      All of my lights have a CRI rating of at least 97cri.
      Doing this allows me to get more accurate colors without weird tints.
      Lastly, I make sure my monitor is calibrated correctly!
      Editing on an uncalibrated monitor will make it impossible to get accurate colors!
      I hope this helps!

      Lens ALL DAY!
      If you can only have one, a lens is going to be MUCH more versatile!
      This is because a lens can be used in MANY different settings where a gimbal may not always be needed.
      A perfect example is a talking head shot (a shot where you are sitting down 🪑 taking to the camera.)
      You can however, use a 16mm 1.4 lens for that though! I hope this makes sense. 😊

      I would buy them according to what I’m shooting. 🤷🏽‍♂️
      If I’m mostly shooting portraits/ headshots I’m going with the 56.
      If I am doing full body portraits or couples, the 30.
      If I’m doing b-roll or group photography the 16.
      All of the primes will give you MORE light and a different look because of the wider aperture!

My Viltrox 23mm f1.4 is an awesome lens, and pretty wide, kinda like a 35mm equivalent, and so I feel like it kinda/sorta covers this focal space, but I know there is a big difference between 16 and 23, and so... @PurposedLensPhotoMedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@manueldeangelis161 If you are looking for a blurred out background then there are a few things to understand about how to achieve it.
      1.) Lens choice.
      2.) Camera Settings
      3.) Proper Lighting
      I am not sure how familiar you are with cameras but if you are new. You may want to read up on Depth Of field, Aperture and basic lighting.
      If you want the look I have, it can be achieved with iPhone or Sony. The Sony will overall give you a cleaner image. But you must do the work to get it to look clean. It's not going to automatically be better just because it's a Sony.
      One must learn lighting and how to use the lens to get the best out of it.
      I hope this helps.

      I just sold my Sigma 16 (which I used for three full years) and got the Tamron 11-20 instead. My primary reason changing is that I wanted an easier to handle, more flexible setup.
      Sharpness wise, they’re comparable. The Tamron is also a good performer throughout its focal range, except at 11mm where you need to close down the aperture to f5.6 to get sharp corners. The centre of the image is sharp wide open at any focal length.
      At 16mm f2.8, the Tamron is similar to the Sigma at f2.8: sharp corner to corner. The Sigma’s corners at f1.4 - f1.8 is a bit soft (not that you’d notice anyway in normal use)
      CA control is very good for both of these lenses. Distortions are well corrected for both (with lens profile). Both lenses has good flare resistance, and okay for astrophotography (the Tamron has better coma control)
      I haven’t tested the AF extensively on the Tamron yet, but so far the focusing was snappy in low light.. and no noise from the motor whatsoever.
      The Tamron is slightly lighter than the Sigma on paper, but because it’s weight is further back towards the camera body, it balances way better in the hand.
      There’s no comparison to what the f1.4 aperture on the Sigma can give you (that bit I do miss), but since I also got a new A6600 body, the IBIS allows me to go 2-3 stops slower and keep the ISO low.
      One thing that annoys me a bit with the Tamron is the size. Not of the lens itself, but rather the chunky front and rear caps (yes, I’m petty like that)
      In summary, the better lens for you depends on how (and what) you shoot.
      If you tend to plan ahead or shoot at a leisurely pace, or you normally do videos on a tripod, or often shoot photos handheld in low light, then the Sigma is the best choice.
      If you’re like me, who feels that 16mm is too wide for a walkaround lens and at times not wide enough for interiors and landscape shots, or willing to forego 2-stops of light and in return get 4 extra focal lengths, with some weight savings, albeit at almost twice the price, then get the Tamron.

    TH-camrs keep pointing out that it doesn't have stabilization, as if stabilized prime lenses are even remotely common. The only stabilized primes I know of are the EF-M 28mm and a couple RF lenses

    • @PurposedLensPhotoMedia
      @PurposedLensPhotoMedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is true!
      Primes are generally used in photography and cinema lenses are geared for video.
      There aren't a lot of stabilized primes as they typically have a fast enough aperture which makes up for needing stabilization in photography.
      There are gimbals and software that can be used to help stabilize video footage.

      I saw on some reviews that samyang has very minimal barrel distortion, however it has bad chromatic aberration. While in the Sigma it's minimal and Sigma is very sharp from center to corner.
