    In these times, I cannot stress enough the importance of looking into the history of orders you are discerning with and see if there is any current or recent sex abuse scandals. I had a friend grow really close to a cloistered order only to realize the horrors going on behind the scenes no one told her about during retreats; thank goodness her priest knew the history. Pray, discern, and research.

    Make sure the community you enter has good formation and training. If you do not get the help you need in critical times when you are struggling you will have a hard time persevering. A balanced religious community is one that provides assistance after you leave and realize it’s not your calling. They should provide help and guidance transitioning back to the world. Theres a certain fish out of the water effect that take place especially for ones that are living a contemplative life.

    There are also secular religious vocations and that is what I believe I am being called too. Being apart from the world but doing so within the world and evangelize where you are, work, home etc.

      dragondiva306 Modern lay religious cannot stand next to the lay religious of the past. The past secular religious had massive penance compared to today's (most do no penance), dressed the part, lived the part. Today it's like adding to one's resume being in a group. This isn't mocking you but overall picture of that. Joan Carroll Cruz's book "Secular saints" is solid portraying how they lived. It's like people wanting to be a deacon after they married (though all the saint deacons took vows, lived as clerics, etc.) taking up two vocations. Nobody has 2 vocations at once. Your vocation is what is getting you into heaven as what you were made to do. If one is a wife then be a wife, mother be a mother, father be a father, etc. I have friends that aren't great fathers that want to be deacons now. That's not a vocation (notice nobody has spiritual directors anymore so they go off their own feelings). Anyways we are all called to evangelize & propagate the faith. All day everyday. We are all called to be in the world but not of it.

      Secular institutes is a recognized religious community of the Church that started in the 1980's. It is new, but still a part of religious life.

    • @SensusFidelium
      @SensusFidelium  9 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      dragondiva306 yes we should worry about those that started so soon esp when religious orders were dying then. Most I see do it as a hobby and tell everyone "I'm a lay whatever". If one's vocation is marriage that is their vocation not pretending to be a religious while married. Just like married deacons is a very weird and bad thing it's a side job for many. Yes, the church allows this but there is a lot of weird stuff being 'allowed'. If it is religious life then pick a vocation. Obey the rule and life like one. To be in religious life is not "pick and choose" what to live by while having a 'name' of an order. Go all in or don't go in. Anything less is a hobby

      @@SensusFidelium so most of the early Popes and cleric's vocation were hobbies? There were married clergy at some point you know.

    • @StoleBearer
      @StoleBearer 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mister David Agreed. There seems to be a amnesia of the Eastern Rites and the ancient practice of married clerics. They surely have a heavier cross - raising a family and ministering to a flock.

    Interesting. Once I learned that the religious life is only an expression of the family life, so to say a life in and with our Creator. In that it is quite true and much is similar, the same and quite identical. Can anyone go there to live the life of a Priest or Nun? They must be free of debt? Indeed! God is calling everyone? Indeed! Into the religious life and again Indeed!! As I listen to this presentation is Holyness and Sainthood there? I see something else and surely the acts and deeds of today speak for themselves about ALL THE ORDERS OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH. Saint Frances of Assisi was a warrior and soldier called from battles into the order of the Church to restore it? Padre Pio was hidden away in it to be kept from the people! Indeed, how many walk that sacrifice of our Lords suffering on the Cross? If not everyday many are! Not as those in the religious orders but identical to it in that world that is meaningless to so many of us! Save the food we eat and the colthing on our back, who are the homeless, the destitute, the orpahaned, the misled, and it goes on to end in destruction of those without graditude and ungracious. Is that not proven and shown at Fatima, 1917 for all to see? Indeed, can any man or woman walk that path of the religious? As the belief of truth, trust and faith given at our Baptismal? That which is claimed by the authority of God which is also expressed by those superiors in conflict with each other today? Thenwhy did our Blessed Mother warn us, those of us so insignificant that the demon Asmodeaus would ruin many convents? Or Pope Leo's vision about Satan whose challenge went straight to the heart of the Church? and what of Pope Pius X warning about the Anit Popes coming or that warning of "Two Worm Ridden Popes"? There is so much missing in this explaination it makes me wonder where is the faith, truth and trust? Such as with addictions of all kinds: intellectualisms, emotionalisms, pain and pleasure, and on it goes. For sure Saint Teresa of Avila says it best, getting past the so many traps just to get to the gate of our mansion. Indeed, the trials are both external and internal and we must seek to conquer both for our salvation giving up everything. As Saint Bernadette says, learning to put her "self" to death. To tell the people that the only place to accomplish this in in the religious life is misleading. Maybe, as it seems now to me that is why our Lord and God granted me my life, for his ever greater Glory. A priest and a nun are sacred gifts given to the people by God Almighty. These explanations here leaves far too much to be desired. I can still say a whole lot more. I can still say that both appearance and intent as well as circumstances reveal the real truths and values. As I see it here a better explaination is needed. For in careers and other vocations we find the same kind of explanations. AND THAT TAKES AWAY FROM THE SPERNATURALNESS OF THE FAITH! Remain Blessed as the effort seems to attempt to explain the value of the religious life. Amen.

      Camillians are known to serve the sick, Augustinians Dominicans Franciscan, Jesuits, Benedictines, Norbertines are theologians and educators, Minims are forever vegan, Claretian Bosconian IVE SVD are missionaries.

      Visiting them is not an optional step based on my experience. Once you narrow down to a few orders, stay with them for at least two weeks if not longer in order to really determine if you can fit in there and if their life suits you. You cannot learn enough from corresponding with them or from their websites alone

      No. We are saying that if you want to be a saint in this life already, the Religious Life (i.e. becoming a nun) is the fastest and most secure way of becoming one.
