Yeah, there's nothing quite as much fun as having the wind try to unscrew your head from your body if you look to the side. Add that to the bugs, bird crap and rain and you have a complete package. I was recently given the use of a demo 2020 Iron 1200 with that weird little headlight surround which was totally useless. The seat was paper thin and the rear shock caused the bumps to knock the wind out of me. I love my 2005 standard Sporty much more.
Thanks for the thorough review. I began riding last summer with two friends (also beginners). We were encouraged to buy heavier bikes because we were told within a few months we'd wish we had more power. I'm grateful I stuck with my Iron. It's a very forgiving bike for a beginner. At 5-8, I've been able to recover at lower speeds without dropping my bike whereas my riding buddies couldn't (who bought heavier bikes). You are 100% correct about moving it around. in the garage. I can lean and maneuver into tight spaces whereas the other bikes will fall on me if I try to lean and turn them. After 2,000 miles since summer, I'm loving this bike. Bike N' Bird Have you ridden the 2016 or 2017 1200 Roadster? I have to say that bike is FUN to ride, and is amazing through corners.... Center of gravity is a little high for me and it makes me nervous but you would probably really like it.
Have 22k miles on my iron. V&H short shots and screaming eagle intake. Agree with your points. Mine will do 90+ which is way faster than I should go. Highway pegs are a must. Here is the thing though, reliability is amazing. This thing just cranks and runs no matter what!
+Ian1911 Yeah I have no clue. Found multiple reviews with people saying that they felt it was topped out at like 75-80 mph. Most were new riders so they probably didn't know you can get going pretty damn fast in 4th before you red line and have to shift to 5th. I just had to bring it up since I bought mine with a few upgrades already on it

I started riding small bikes at age 14 and graduated up to larger touring bikes through the adult years with lots of miles logged.. Life's circumstances caused me to stop riding at 40. Fast forward 25 years and still having the love & the urge I bought a used 2012 883 Super Low like your's for my 65th birthday. Now after 25 years of being off motorcycles and a full year of riding my sporty I can summize that the no 1 word you used a couple of times in your video to describe this machine FUN is an understatement. I have loved every mile so far and it has been totally reliable. Living in Central Texas I have plenty of curvy 60mph back roads at my disposal. I will pick out a 100 mile route, make a few stops along the way and enjoy the day. My only downside to the bike is my backside will get a little sore if I don't stop and rest after 50 miles. Since I do ianyway it's a minor issue, The bike's a keeper. I love my 883 Sporty and will have one until old age says I can't ride one any more.
I am in the process of buying a Harley too, I am having trouble deciding though I can either buy a sportster now or save a couple more months and hope to find a Dyna in my price range. I really want a Dyna but waiting another 2 or 3 months and then hoping to find a Dyna under 6 grand will be a challenge.
My two cents: Just wait and get the Dyna or you may get buyers remorse. I'm not bashing Sportsters at all, I own a 48 that is my daily commuter and wouldn't have it any other way. I bought it as my first bike. But then again, I'm a mature responsible rider.
I just bought my XL883I 2016. I learned to ride 7 years ago on a Buell Blast 500 I only rode it for 6 months. I was nervous of taking the bike on the street off the dealership but I was actually very smooth and easy. Love the bike cant be happier with the purchase. The reason I think its easy to ride or learn is because of the clutch and the accelerator have a lot of space therefore you can feel the throttle well before letting the clutch go. I do think it is a heavy bike and some sharp turns are a bitch, but its just a matter of getting used to the bike.... Great review!
I’m 23 and I just bought an 07 Sportster 883 with only 12,000 miles on it, with the pacific blue colour (first year of EFI). All stock except the Vance Hine pipes long tube which sound amazing & scare people when I start it up lol, for my first bike and man on man it’s perfect. Everything you mention in this review is correct! Awesome video
I really loved my 2004 1200c. It was my first motorcycle and one of my favorites--it felt like a motorcycle should to me. It was super uncomfortable after 4 hours on it though, really bad. I also had mechanical/electrical problems with mine so I moved on. I also had the V&H short shots and the sound was amazing. Great review!
Concerning power... I have the 883c and I find that the power is up there near the red line for that gear. I remember after getting my 883 wanting to pass a group of cars to catch up with a bike rider ahead of me. I was doing about 55 and had about 4 cars to pass. I was in gear 5 and started cranking it on. The speed was slowly moving up and got around 70 75 and the car in the opposing lane was about to take me out so I squeezed over to the line and just made it. I thought about that and said to myself I have gone over 90 on this bike so I know that it can reach higher speeds. Then it dawned on me how I had gotten to those higher speeds... drop down to 4 and twist the throttle. Next day I got out on the highway and tried that out in every gear bringing it up to the red line speed before shifting and wow what a difference. I was up to those higher speeds in a very short time. Lesson learned. After getting this one I found that I can double the horse power with a 1250 kit for about 600 dollars. That was a bonus find!
The only gripe I have with the Sportster line is the rear suspension. Easily fixed with better shocks from the aftermarket. And that is half the fun of Sporty's. Make it yours.
I just got an 07 sportster 883 low last week. Took it for a ride and immediatly realized how stiff the ride is. Still have one more notch to lessen the preload on the shocks to make it a tiny bit better but every bump can definetly be felt. Also doesnt help I have disc issues in my lower back and it's a bit painful to ride. Hoping I get fixed up before spring so I can actually enjoy the bike. Also maybe a mustang vintage solo seat will be on the to buy list. Otherwise I love the bike.
One of the best reviews I've seen on the Iron. Mature and fair commentary. I am surprised that at 6ft2 it still fits you well. I have a 2016 and love the bike, especially after exhaust, intake, and V&H fuelpak upgrade. Really kicks the 883 performance up a few notches. Power is absolutely not an issue for this rider. Cheers.
If you have a bad back like I do, the good news is that the Sportster comes in two riding styles, "cruiser" with forward controls (lazy-boy riding position) and "standard" withmid-controls (upright standard riding position). I can't ride with forward controls for more than 30 minutes without my back killing me. I can ride my 2005 XL883 Standard with mid-controls for hundreds of miles in comfort. I am 5'6" and I can flat-foot when I stop. My standard handlebars are extremely comfortable but they forced me to get long-stem mirrors so I could see past my upper arms. I've been riding since the early 1960's and this is the most fun and reliable bike I've ever owned and this includes Japanese and German bikes.
I'm about 300lbs and I hit 95-100 mph more then I should but the bike gets there very easy that's for the people that thinks it doesn't have enough power.... but I need to get some of those highway pegs... great vid
Nice review, I picked up my first Harley 09 xl883n Iron 4200 miles, this last fall. I road a 83 750kawasaki CSR twin for 8 years in Tucson Az. back in the early 90's I have to say I love my 883, can't wait to ride again here in Michigan... I didn't want anything bigger and felt this was a good choice.. haven't been disappointed..
If you didn't know they make extended front controls too ! It's a bracket that takes your peg out an inch or two infront of the frame. You should look into it especially when your 6'2.

Oh, about keeping track of the fuel. I use the B milage setting to keep my mileage after a fillup at the station. I get 50 miles to a gallon of gas so when I get to 300 or more I just start looking for a gas station. After a fill, I push in on the rubber covered button on the back and it returns to zero. The A milage setting I keep track of the mileage for my oil change. The bike also has a reserve on the valve. Up is regular, to the right is off and down is a reserve. There is also a way to get a readout if you are having a problem with the engine... never used it and don't know exactly how it works but it's there. I have a 2006 883c.

Great review and on the highway issue I have a 95 Harley sportster 883 and while aftermarket exhaust and seat and bars etc I can get her up to 90 plus on the freeways here in Hawg City.
I never rode a motorcycle, or used manual, I passed the msf course (using a 150cc) I purchased an iron 883, it had some kick but after two days of riding I got the hang of it, I higher recommend this bike as a first bike
I too like the forward pegs and not the forward controls. With forward pegs, you can still stand up going over railroad tracks while on the mid-control pegs. I shift with my heel and brake with my heel of my boots while they are on the forward pegs. Only having forward controls makes for a sore butt experience on longer rides. I too am over 6' tall and 230 lbs. Have been riding since 1974 and have owned 10 Sporties in my life (1976 to 2008 model years).... The progression from an Iron Head to Evo solid mount carb to Evo rubber mount carb to Evo rubber mount fuel injection makes the Sportster progression fantastic. I have owned all those "evolution" of the Sportster models.... What is my favorite model years? 1997 to 1999 carb because of the control module ease of changing them out for different advance curves..... Those models are 50 lbs lighter than the rubber mount models.

Hey Bike n Bird. I have taken the motorcycle safety course and didn't pass but I'm going to try again until I pass. The bikes they supplied us was a Honda Rebel 250 and I felt very comfortable on it. I am actually considering getting a Harley 750 or a 883 for my first bike.

I just bought a used 2010 883 and I am a beginner I been riding it to work and for a few trips I am not a tall guy I am 5"6 the original seat for me after 25 minutes feels uncomfortable ..I haven't update anything on this motorcycle yet..I like the way your 883 looks bro thanks for your videos cheers from Madison Wisconsin

Nice review and its nice to hear that someone your size rides it. I´m 6´4 and this is the bike im going to buy. I will ride it stock for some time, then get mini apes, highway pegs and a new seat to make it better for my frame.

sadly i have winter time where i live up in the old north dakokta so she sits for about 5 months i just take the battery out and when it comes to crank her up she cranks for about 2 seconds then fires right up haha
My very first bike was a 07 KLR 650 and I dropped that a lot of times. Looking at getting the 883 as my next bike. Better at riding now then was before.
Great review. I had an '03 sportster..loved it. I have since had a VRod and now a Street Glide. Each had a different use. I am keeping the SG, but might get another sportster for kickin around the city!

I'm in the middle of fixing a chinese 50cc scooter to learn how to ride on 2 wheels with. but once I get a little experience (and some more money) I'm looking at getting one of these sportsters. I could stand to lose a little weight, but I'm currently 5'8. as of right now, I've never ridden a motorcycle before at all. But I'm getting really excited about learning to.
very through, unbiased review. I am 63 and started riding at 13. My first sportster was slightly used and $1900 I just loved it, I did tour on it as did many fellows of my day. It was a 1000 cc motor and for a cruiser it was plenty fast. I mean at 110 mph with out a fairing and wind shield your not going to be holding on very long. I quit riding many yrs. ago to raise a family. My son now owns an older Electra Gluide and if not for sever arthritis in my left hand I would jump on it.I have been doing some study on the ReKluse clutch and it sounds like if it works as advertised it would be just what the doctor ordered. Have you done any study on this one?
Loved this review. No BS, simple, honest. And the "well duuhhhh!!!" part cracked me up! I had a 2004 XLC1200 and sadly let myself get talked into trading it off. More and more I miss that bike every day. It had the OEM quick disconnect windscreen witch was frigg'n AWESOME idea. In town or hotter than hell's gate hinges, took it off. Cold days or when I knew I would be coming back late in the evening (BUGS!!!) pop it on. Took like 45 seconds to attach / detach. Had screaming eagles with NO baffles so way the H___ too lould for my taste, but sold the bike before I put the new baffles in. I bought the Mustand touring seat and that was an amazing seat. I never minded the stiff ride. Like you said, it never felt bone jarring, but was for sure stiff. lol I know it is 19 months old, but still.................Great vid dude.
Great review. Very thorough. I think you've convinced me to get an Iron 883. I've had my first bike for a year now (Yamaha XT 250). Thought I was going to be riding in the dirt a lot more, but turns out, I've really just used it to cruise through town and commute. I'd like a bike with higher performance, more power, and a better sound. I've looked at the Honda Rebel 500, but I think the Iron 883 will be the way to go. Thanks for your help!
I love my 883 I put almost 12k on it got it brand new. I have a fuelpak3 and high flow air filter and I can easily hit 90 to 95 mph. but I'm a smaller guy. I'm guna trip a hammer kit in mine soon. good review bro!
If you're going to ride many miles.then first mod should be the seat. Changed mine out for a Harley Sundowner double seat.for riding 2 up.(looks ugly but very comfy.) For solo riding I have a mustang solo with backrest. Both are great but many others available. If you're not riding more than 50 miles a day then skip the seat and go directly to stage 1 mods. My current ride is an 07 Heritage Softail Classic, it's parked beside my 96 Honda Magna (one of the most fun bikes I've owned and I can't bring myself to sell), Love the Harley, if I replace the Magna it will be with a 883 similar to yours. Great job.
I used to have a Magna and it was a very comfortable beast! However, they have a history of premature engine bearing failure. My first problem was a failed fuel pump and it was buried inside the V-4 engine compartment. I almost had to get a mortgage to pay the HUGE bill which was 90% labor. My gravity-fed single carb on my 2005 XL883 has been perfect and I've never had to adjust it. Love my Sporty!
Got 6000 miles on my Iron, I don't mind the stock pipes, sounds okay and it will run 80 all day. My first mod was rear shocks as they bottomed out too often, my next mod will be some 1200 belt pulleys for lower rpm in top gear. It is a well made and predictable motorcycle.
Great review! I've only recently started riding a bike on a Honda 125. Really wanted a cruiser but that one had such a good deal with free Helmut and all that I just went for it lol. I'm really looking in to getting a 883 around spring time next year and this review is the best one I've found on here! So thanks ones again :D
+dunstan dowling hey man there's absolutely nothing wrong with starting small! I think of it this way. You can always upgrade if you're bored. You can't downgrade if you're dead.
Outstanding review mate, with the exception of one point a lot of Harley reviewers seem to leave out, which is how much it vibrates. I ride a Honda CB600fs Hornet here in the UK, I believe they're called the 599 over there. It is a fast and agile bike and I'll be honest, even after owning it for over 13 years it still scares the piss out of me now and again. I took a Harley Sportster 1200 for a test drive a couple of summers ago and apart from the vibration, I loved it. I have been told the 883 is the same and for that reason I just couldn't ride it. As well as the fact that the roads of Yorkshire are particularly bad for pot holes and surface imperfections. Anyways, keep up the good work and safe riding. Aidy
+Aidy Madd It definitely vibrates. But my dad told me when I was just a wee lad learning to ride, I would whine about how my hands felt after a long day of motorcross and he said "if you can't take the vibrations then maybe chess club would be a better fit".

Thanks for posting. I am just starting to look at the Indian Sport Bobber and the Iron 883 as a new addition. I just want something fun to tool around town with. Ride down to the beach or something. I have a Spyder F3 so I want something smaller, more ‘hooliganish’. 👍🏻
full stock, break-in time, yes it feels underpowered, and this is my first bike at highway speeds. im passed the harley recommended limit to even hit 55 on my iron 883
For anyone who thinks you're too small for this bike, trust me it's perfect. This is coming from a 19 year old 5'5" 130 pound skinny guy. It's super easy to handle, and a lot of fun to ride. Definitely recommend this bike, especially for smaller riders.
Thanks for mentioning the Honda Shadow. Was thinking of what bike to step up from a Kawasaki Eliminator 125. I looked at sport bikes for better wind protection at highway speeds the but decided to stick with a cruiser with more power.
+Benedict Benjo if you're looking for wind protection then just get a windshield. Sport bikes are no better. They're also light so they get blown around on the highway
Living in Bristol UK I am "Drooling" over those amazing perfect roads ...here their not repairing em , huge pot holes ,cracks , sunken man-hole covers ...you would not believe how bad it is.....on road is like OFf ROAD 1
We can change some key components for a classic sportster ride. A12” springer with gauges and a fat boy style front wheel. We’ll need a professional opinion on the rakeOut back we’d go with a weld on hard tail section with fat boy wheel and a custom fender and mid length sissy bar.
A professional opinion on the rake for a level frame rail ride height. A solo saddle will do for now but will be fitting a king and queen seat in the future. Ideas just keep on coming.

They are 11". Black, with the decorative thing on them. Don't know what to call it, but it's that "wing" that has the holes in it like the Roland Sands models. I don't know what brand these are.
Off topic but at 8:10 I noticed that the area you're riding in looked familiar. After rewinding it and taking a closer look I figured out you were passing university oaks at UTSA. It's strange how this is the first video of yours I've seen and that's where I stayed my freshman year of college.
i think its a good bike myself,, i had one and it was my first bike i did not ride a thing before love the bike, feel in love with it,, one thing about the bike i had was at around 75 it seemed the front end was unstable but i had it up to 115,, i lost the bike when my wife and i split but if i buy again it will be a iron,,but i will get it up to a 1200

Had my iron 883 now for 5 years. I can do that 80mph all day long ... my only complaint is handlebar vibrations past 75mph.

Shit my DR650 does 80 effortlessly, I doubt an 883cc v-twin with FI "tops out" at 65-70... Fuck my 95 XT350 did 70 without much effort.

My first bike was a ninja 250 that would easily do 90mph, then again Im very light. The iron 883 will do every bit of that 120mph speedo.

Now after 25 years of being off motorcycles and a full year of riding my sporty I can summize that the no 1 word you used a couple of times in your video to describe this machine FUN is an understatement. I have loved every mile so far and it has been totally reliable. Living in Central Texas I have plenty of curvy 60mph back roads at my disposal. I will pick out a 100 mile route, make a few stops along the way and enjoy the day. My only downside to the bike is my backside will get a little sore if I don't stop and rest after 50 miles. Since I do ianyway it's a minor issue, The bike's a keeper. I love my 883 Sporty and will have one until old age says I can't ride one any more.

I am in the process of buying a Harley too, I am having trouble deciding though I can either buy a sportster now or save a couple more months and hope to find a Dyna in my price range. I really want a Dyna but waiting another 2 or 3 months and then hoping to find a Dyna under 6 grand will be a challenge.

My two cents: Just wait and get the Dyna or you may get buyers remorse. I'm not bashing Sportsters at all, I own a 48 that is my daily commuter and wouldn't have it any other way. I bought it as my first bike. But then again, I'm a mature responsible rider.
I just bought my XL883I 2016. I learned to ride 7 years ago on a Buell Blast 500 I only rode it for 6 months. I was nervous of taking the bike on the street off the dealership but I was actually very smooth and easy. Love the bike cant be happier with the purchase. The reason I think its easy to ride or learn is because of the clutch and the accelerator have a lot of space therefore you can feel the throttle well before letting the clutch go. I do think it is a heavy bike and some sharp turns are a bitch, but its just a matter of getting used to the bike.... Great review!

I’m 23 and I just bought an 07 Sportster 883 with only 12,000 miles on it, with the pacific blue colour (first year of EFI). All stock except the Vance Hine pipes long tube which sound amazing & scare people when I start it up lol, for my first bike and man on man it’s perfect. I really loved my 2004 1200c. It was my first motorcycle and one of my favorites--it felt like a motorcycle should to me. It was super uncomfortable after 4 hours on it though, really bad. I also had mechanical/electrical problems with mine so I moved on. I also had the V&H short shots and the sound was amazing. Great review!
Concerning power... I have the 883c and I find that the power is up there near the red line for that gear. I remember after getting my 883 wanting to pass a group of cars to catch up with a bike rider ahead of me. I was doing about 55 and had about 4 cars to pass. I was in gear 5 and started cranking it on. The speed was slowly moving up and got around 70 75 and the car in the opposing lane was about to take me out so I squeezed over to the line and just made it. I thought about that and said to myself I have gone over 90 on this bike so I know that it can reach higher speeds. Then it dawned on me how I had gotten to those higher speeds... drop down to 4 and twist the throttle. Next day I got out on the highway and tried that out in every gear bringing it up to the red line speed before shifting and wow what a difference. I was up to those higher speeds in a very short time. Lesson learned.
After getting this one I found that I can double the horse power with a 1250 kit for about 600 dollars. That was a bonus find!
Agree. Down shift and get the rpms up. Learned that the hard way too.
The only gripe I have with the Sportster line is the rear suspension.
Easily fixed with better shocks from the aftermarket.
And that is half the fun of Sporty's.

I just got an 07 sportster 883 low last week. Took it for a ride and immediatly realized how stiff the ride is. Still have one more notch to lessen the preload on the shocks to make it a tiny bit better but every bump can definetly be felt. Also doesnt help I have disc issues in my lower back and it's a bit painful to ride. Hoping I get fixed up before spring so I can actually enjoy the bike. Also maybe a mustang vintage solo seat will be on the to buy list. Otherwise I love the bike.
One of the best reviews I've seen on the Iron. Mature and fair commentary. I am surprised that at 6ft2 it still fits you well. I have a 2016 and love the bike, especially after exhaust, intake, and V&H fuelpak upgrade. Really kicks the 883 performance up a few notches. Power is absolutely not an issue for this rider. Cheers.
If you have a bad back like I do, the good news is that the Sportster comes in two riding styles, "cruiser" with forward controls (lazy-boy riding position) and "standard" withmid-controls (upright standard riding position). I can't ride with forward controls for more than 30 minutes without my back killing me. I can ride my 2005 XL883 Standard with mid-controls for hundreds of miles in comfort. I am 5'6" and I can flat-foot when I stop. My standard handlebars are extremely comfortable but they forced me to get long-stem mirrors so I could see past my upper arms.
I've been riding since the early 1960's and this is the most fun and reliable bike I've ever owned and this includes Japanese and German bikes.
I'm about 300lbs and I hit 95-100 mph more then I should but the bike gets there very easy that's for the people that thinks it doesn't have enough power.... but I need to get some of those highway pegs... great vid
Nice review, I picked up my first Harley 09 xl883n Iron 4200 miles, this last fall. I road a 83 750kawasaki CSR twin for 8 years in Tucson Az. back in the early 90's I have to say I love my 883, can't wait to ride again here in Michigan... I didn't want anything bigger and felt this was a good choice.. haven't been disappointed..

If you didn't know they make extended front controls too ! It's a bracket that takes your peg out an inch or two infront of the frame. You should look into it especially when your 6'2.

Oh, about keeping track of the fuel. I use the B milage setting to keep my mileage after a fillup at the station. I get 50 miles to a gallon of gas so when I get to 300 or more I just start looking for a gas station. After a fill, I push in on the rubber covered button on the back and it returns to zero. The A milage setting I keep track of the mileage for my oil change. The bike also has a reserve on the valve. Up is regular, to the right is off and down is a reserve. There is also a way to get a readout if you are having a problem with the engine... never used it and don't know exactly how it works but it's there. I have a 2006 883c.

Great review and on the highway issue I have a 95 Harley sportster 883 and while aftermarket exhaust and seat and bars etc I can get her up to 90 plus on the freeways here in Hawg City.
I never rode a motorcycle, or used manual, I passed the msf course (using a 150cc) I purchased an iron 883, it had some kick but after two days of riding I got the hang of it, I higher recommend this bike as a first bike

I too like the forward pegs and not the forward controls. With forward pegs, you can still stand up going over railroad tracks while on the mid-control pegs. I shift with my heel and brake with my heel of my boots while they are on the forward pegs. Only having forward controls makes for a sore butt experience on longer rides. I too am over 6' tall and 230 lbs. Have been riding since 1974 and have owned 10 Sporties in my life (1976 to 2008 model years).... The progression from an Iron Head to Evo solid mount carb to Evo rubber mount carb to Evo rubber mount fuel injection makes the Sportster progression fantastic. I have owned all those "evolution" of the Sportster models.... What is my favorite model years? 1997 to 1999 carb because of the control module ease of changing them out for different advance curves..... Those models are 50 lbs lighter than the rubber mount models.

It scrapes around EVERY CORNER but that’s my only grudge, love the dry deck and the drive belt, no water no chain, less maintenance more riding

Hey Bike n Bird. I have taken the motorcycle safety course and didn't pass but I'm going to try again until I pass. The bikes they supplied us was a Honda Rebel 250 and I felt very comfortable on it. I am actually considering getting a Harley 750 or a 883 for my first bike.

I'm 6'3 around 350 and I'm a beginner I sat on the Iron 883 and it felt comfortable as far as my leg room.
I just bought a used 2010 883 and I am a beginner I been riding it to work and for a few trips I am not a tall guy I am 5"6 the original seat for me after 25 minutes feels uncomfortable ..I haven't update anything on this motorcycle yet..I like the way your 883 looks bro thanks for your videos cheers from Madison Wisconsin

sadly i have winter time where i live up in the old north dakokta so she sits for about 5 months i just take the battery out and when it comes to crank her up she cranks for about 2 seconds then fires right up haha

Great review. I had an '03 sportster..loved it. I have since had a VRod and now a Street Glide. Each had a different use. I am keeping the SG, but might get another sportster for kickin around the city!

very through, unbiased review. I am 63 and started riding at 13. My first sportster was slightly used and $1900 I just loved it, I did tour on it as did many fellows of my day. It was a 1000 cc motor and for a cruiser it was plenty fast. I mean at 110 mph with out a fairing and wind shield your not going to be holding on very long. I quit riding many yrs. ago to raise a family. My son now owns an older Electra Gluide and if not for sever arthritis in my left hand I would jump on it.I have been doing some study on the ReKluse clutch and it sounds like if it works as advertised it would be just what the doctor ordered. Have you done any study on this one?
Loved this review. No BS, simple, honest. And the "well duuhhhh!!!" part cracked me up! I had a 2004 XLC1200 and sadly let myself get talked into trading it off. More and more I miss that bike every day. It had the OEM quick disconnect windscreen witch was frigg'n AWESOME idea. In town or hotter than hell's gate hinges, took it off. Cold days or when I knew I would be coming back late in the evening (BUGS!!!) pop it on. Took like 45 seconds to attach / detach. Had screaming eagles with NO baffles so way the H___ too lould for my taste, but sold the bike before I put the new baffles in. I bought the Mustand touring seat and that was an amazing seat. I never minded the stiff ride. Like you said, it never felt bone jarring, but was for sure stiff. lol I know it is 19 months old, but still.................Great vid dude.
Great review. Very thorough. I think you've convinced me to get an Iron 883. I've had my first bike for a year now (Yamaha XT 250). Thought I was going to be riding in the dirt a lot more, but turns out, I've really just used it to cruise through town and commute. I'd like a bike with higher performance, more power, and a better sound. I've looked at the Honda Rebel 500, but I think the Iron 883 will be the way to go. Thanks for your help!

I love my 883 I put almost 12k on it got it brand new. I have a fuelpak3 and high flow air filter and I can easily hit 90 to 95 mph. but I'm a smaller guy. I'm guna trip a hammer kit in mine soon. good review bro!
If you're going to ride many miles.then first mod should be the seat. Changed mine out for a Harley Sundowner double seat.for riding 2 up.(looks ugly but very comfy.) For solo riding I have a mustang solo with backrest. Both are great but many others available.
If you're not riding more than 50 miles a day then skip the seat and go directly to stage 1 mods.

My current ride is an 07 Heritage Softail Classic, it's parked beside my 96 Honda Magna (one of the most fun bikes I've owned and I can't bring myself to sell), Love the Harley, if I replace the Magna it will be with a 883 similar to yours. Great job.

I used to have a Magna and it was a very comfortable beast! However, they have a history of premature engine bearing failure. My first problem was a failed fuel pump and it was buried inside the V-4 engine compartment. I almost had to get a mortgage to pay the HUGE bill which was 90% labor. My gravity-fed single carb on my 2005 XL883 has been perfect and I've never had to adjust it. Love my Sporty!

I love my completely stock 2019 Sportster Iron 883. If you want something smooth go buy a Cadillac.
Got 6000 miles on my Iron, I don't mind the stock pipes, sounds okay and it will run 80 all day. My first mod was rear shocks as they bottomed out too often, my next mod will be some 1200 belt pulleys for lower rpm in top gear. It is a well made and predictable motorcycle.

Outstanding review mate, with the exception of one point a lot of Harley reviewers seem to leave out, which is how much it vibrates.
I ride a Honda CB600fs Hornet here in the UK, I believe they're called the 599 over there. It is a fast and agile bike and I'll be honest, even after owning it for over 13 years it still scares the piss out of me now and again. I took a Harley Sportster 1200 for a test drive a couple of summers ago and apart from the vibration, I loved it. I have been told the 883 is the same and for that reason I just couldn't ride it. As well as the fact that the roads of Yorkshire are particularly bad for pot holes and surface imperfections.

+Aidy Madd It definitely vibrates. But my dad told me when I was just a wee lad learning to ride, I would whine about how my hands felt after a long day of motorcross and he said "if you can't take the vibrations then maybe chess club would be a better fit".

full stock, break-in time, yes it feels underpowered, and this is my first bike at highway speeds. im passed the harley recommended limit to even hit 55 on my iron 883
For anyone who thinks you're too small for this bike, trust me it's perfect. This is coming from a 19 year old 5'5" 130 pound skinny guy. It's super easy to handle, and a lot of fun to ride. Definitely recommend this bike, especially for smaller riders.

Thanks for mentioning the Honda Shadow. Was thinking of what bike to step up from a Kawasaki Eliminator 125. I looked at sport bikes for better wind protection at highway speeds the but decided to stick with a cruiser with more power.

We can change some key components for a classic sportster ride. A12” springer with gauges and a fat boy style front wheel. We’ll need a professional opinion on the rakeOut back we’d go with a weld on hard tail section with fat boy wheel and a custom fender and mid length sissy bar.
A professional opinion on the rake for a level frame rail ride height. A solo saddle will do for now but will be fitting a king and queen seat in the future. Ideas just keep on coming.

They are 11". Black, with the decorative thing on them. Don't know what to call it, but it's that "wing" that has the holes in it like the Roland Sands models. I don't know what brand these are.
Off topic but at 8:10 I noticed that the area you're riding in looked familiar. After rewinding it and taking a closer look I figured out you were passing university oaks at UTSA. It's strange how this is the first video of yours I've seen and that's where I stayed my freshman year of college.
i think its a good bike myself,, i had one and it was my first bike i did not ride a thing before love the bike, feel in love with it,, one thing about the bike i had was at around 75 it seemed the front end was unstable but i had it up to 115,, i lost the bike when my wife and i split but if i buy again it will be a iron,,but i will get it up to a 1200
