I know you're already done with this playthrough, but something that I have found out, and I have confirmed via Dead Space wiki is that those Power Node rooms aren't actually as disappointing as you think. Power nodes cost 10,000 credits, and those rooms contain a minimum of enough items to amount to at least as much than the original worth. I recall one Power Node room managed to turn one Power Node into two Power Nodes and some credits.After upgrading my Plasma Cutter, RIG, Stasis, and Kinesis, any Power Nodes I found/bought in later playthroughs went to those rooms and few times was I ever actually disappointed. Point I'm trying to make, you are less likely to be disappointed by going into at least one of those rooms than you are to completely avoid them.

The ship had a crew of around 1000 people, I wonder what percent of the crew brad has killed, I'm to lazy to do the math. But its possible that if they waited it out in one spot in each part of the ship to kill off all the metamorphs. In theory that is.
Dont forget: a lot of people escaped from the colony and went to the Ishimura. And second: 1000 people are the workers, but there are also some civilians/colonists
