    Dont forget, the bretheren moons say "make us whole". They obviously want to merge and become even a bigger monstrosity. Very lovecrafty...Azathoth comes to mind.

      @@ProjectACHERON They mention "you can kill the prophet but you can't kill the god".
      It could be that the devs hinted at such a monstrosity.
      I also read in the wiki that DS4 was going to be about stopping the moons but the "cost would be too high". And "it's better with the devil you know".
      So something even worse than the moons.
      Pretty cool. I don't think there is any game out there that deals with existention cosmic horror like dead space.

      Incorrect: The "Make us Whole" unitologist chant wasn't the Brethren. it was the Incomplete / Immature Brethren at Tau Volantis Broadcasting its "SOS" of Sorts, Calling out for Marker-Afflicted Organisms to Go there and Let it Complete its Formation.
      The Brethrens as a Whole don't care about anything other than Fabricating markers, Sleeping, then Devouring Species as they Ignorantly awaken the Brethren during a Convergence Event.

    I'll never understand the whole theory that "Markers influenced human evolution" to my memory, I have not seen this sentence uttered to be fact other than what Unitoligists preached and it's kind of obvious they are very wrong about - *EVERYTHING*
    No scientific factual information from any other characters in the series shares this sentiment. Not even the developers if you wanna go that far.
    The Markers are mysterious in nature and their origin is meant to be ambiguous and unknown being heavily inspired by Eldritch Gods and Old Ones of H.P. Lovecraft lore. Though it should be said, I do totally WANT the idea of Markers influencing evolution in a species to be real. The concept of owing your entire existence to an alien race who only want to use you for food/reproduction would make the already nihilistic story of Dead Space more hopeless.

      @johnd1916 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or maybe the reapers are actually evil, but I always thought the presentation of the reapers was more so as very uncanny/creepy in a very alien way, kind of like Godless/empty/soulless, like something so alienated from human warmth and familiarity, like a black hole kind of cause black holes are really scary/creepy to think about but you couldn’t call it intentionally evil I dont think. So the reapers are not necessarily full blown evil, at-least not explicitly/intentionally. IMO
      the marker is different, its openly and explicitly very sinister/evil

    Honestly, I wish more people would acknowledge the obvious retcon Visceral did with the marker between 1 and 2. It's pretty clear the markers in the first game existed to protect people from necromorphs. It has a "dead space" around it that stops necromorph from getting close to it, it kills/suppresses all the necromorphs on Aegis VII with a pedestal it made other humans make, it even disengages the tethers holding up the planet chunk on Aegis VII, sacrificing itself to end the necromorph threat. This wasn't initially meant to be a malicious entity, those actions don't jive at all with anything else in the games.

  • @patrickcoleman6429
    @patrickcoleman6429 4 ปีที่แล้ว +51

    I could see them as being a Bio weapon similar to the Xenomorph in Aliens only in a much larger scale. I've always thought the species that made the original marker was in a war. One in which they were losing terribly. They created the Black marker and left it to be found by their enemy and take back to their home world. Once there and with sufficient population density the replication phase would begin creating the red markers. Then necrotic phase would take over. That, mixed with mass suicidal and psychotic behavior brought on by the markers at this stage would wipe out their enemy in one action. They would ultimately lose the war being whipped out but their Trojan horse made it the its destination and fulfilled its purpose. As for the creation of more back markers I think it was a fail safe made in case they did lose. To propagate the black markers to ensure they took their enemy with them. It is likely they built a fail safe into the black markers to disable production of more but with none left to give the shutdown command they will continue to propagate through out the universe until no biological diversity remains.

      If it even possible to do so. It likely that the original civilisation couldn’t control it and it was able to wipe them out however. With the brethren moons amassing towards earth, our last hope is to seek out the origin of the necromorphs markers signal by tracing it to their point of origin and shouting the transmission down from its source.

    Two things, contact with an event horizon of a black hole will not destroy an object outright, it will however vanish from the universe for the most part, unable to leave and falling toward the singularity. Second another possible way to destroy a marker would be to send it into a star, turning it to plasma and destroying it's structure completely.

    Just finished Dead Space 1 and got a few questions. I wonder why the hive mind final boss and the army of necromorphs want to stop Issac(already guided by marker created vision of Nicole) from bringing the marker back to the planet(make us whole)? And Kendra as well as the guy killed by Kendra(the one hallucinating his dead wife) said the marker can suppress the necromorphs? Aren't the marker and the necros on the same side?

    • @nihilityjoey
      @nihilityjoey 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      The hive mind and the necromorphs were not trying to stop issac, from bringing the marker back to its pedestal. I will try to explain as best i can, as briefly as i can.
      First off. Disregard a lot of what you have heard of the markers whilest reading this.
      The black marker is just the same as red markers. All markers have the same goal and function the only difference is the convergence marker has a pedestal which helps regulates its energy when an outbreak is happening. This is key to understanding how the markers function, to answer your questions. Markers actually power necromorphs. With the help of a recombinat virus a portion of the marker signal is what is getting the necromorphs up and about. The recombinant is what is responsible for the mutations and genetic information on how a necromorph behaves. The markers DO NOT cause mutations through its signal.
      So think of the markers, as among other things as wireless power generators (very basic). What this energy is the marker is able to use is unknown, and my own theory is at the sci fi part of "i just know how the cells are able to induct this energy". But the more necromorphs, the more energy output is needed. So, along comes humans and takes the marker from it pedestal, this triggers an change in the energy output of the marker, alerting all nearby necros, hivemind included.
      Now dr Kein came to the realisation of what the marker was (or his own version based on his own knowledge) and thought the way to stop the outbreak, was to return it to the planet. And because the marker was affecting him, he used his dead wife to spur him on in his goal. Issac himself was then convinced by dr kein, so he too - without himself knowing anything about the marker, continues the mission to put it back on it pedestal. And because he was also being affected by the signal, he used his dead girlfriend to comfort him and give him advice. The marker itself was not implanting these memories of nicole, it was issac all along. The marker was the thing causing the changes in his brain causing him to go mad.
      The necromorphs are not thinking planning entities. They have base instincts present in them from base genetic information. When issac returned and placed the marker back. The reason the necromorphs were destroyed in the vicinity was simply a spike in energy output from the marker, and this energy was to much for the already irradiated necros, so they were destroyed. This obviously had a limited range, but it was not some intricate plan by the markers. The same as the reason there is a dead zone around the markers, the marker is repelling them due to electromagnetic repulsion. It's not the markers protecting humans.
      I hope that helps.

    Thanks for the good content!
    DLC: Awakened ending, but I suspect that convergence has been achieved on the Earth side and the Earth's Brethren Moon has taken over the function.
    The damage from the marker terrorist attack by Danic and his team was so severe that the Earth government forces on the lunar colony only had one battalion left, but Norton's platoon and Isaac didn't have time to neutralize the moon markers.
    If the ending Brethren Moons were simply coming to Earth, the DLC storyline was correct that they should return to Earth and warn them as soon as possible. If a signal comes from one moon of Tau Volantis to another, then that signal will reach the Earth markers, and the Earth markers will continue to send out messages to the other markers and the moons about their whereabouts.
    Also, I made Japanese subtitles for this video, I'm not sure how youtube works, but I heard it's being vetted. Check it out if you'd like.

    Interesting but there a few flaws.
    1. Main part of biomass on the planet is single cell organisms. Humans and even all animals together are nothing comparing to mass of all bacteria and archaea. It is silly to harvest people.
    2. All organisms including us are just biomachines and dead organism is a very broken machine. Nobody expects that broken car will move again on its own for obvious reasons. Those reasons are the same for dead bodies and cells.
    3. Space and especially orbit of a planet that has magnetic field is not the best place for biomass. Radiation and extreme temperatures can very fast turn biomass into simple organic molecules that are already present in space in huge quantities. And appearance of that meat planets doesn't reveal any protective crust or strong magnetic shield.
    4. If that marker can't survive collision of planets, how it survived crushing on Earth? For so small object like marker it's the same as be squashed by two planets. There was enough energy to detach atoms from each other unless it had landing mechanism. But it is shown in the game that marker doesn't have any moving parts or active protection, or engines.
    5. Biomass decays over time. To protect it from decomposition you need to freeze it or it has to be alive so it could constantly repair itself at molecular level. And to do this biomass requires very specific conditions and multilayer shielding: magnetic for solar wind, ozone for UV, oxygen for X-ray. Meat planet doesn't have any of this.

      We don't exactly know the components of these markers and variations so this is all possible. Or it's actual intentions vs misuse of the marker either. A Dead Space 4 would and should answer most of what we don't know. Advanced alien technology that defies what applies to us or what we know of evolution.

    Dead space was such a masterfully made game, from its sci-fi lovecraftian cosmic horror, to its intense game play followed by paranoia inducing silence. The game does everything almost perfectly and it still looks good even ten years later. They hardly ever make em like that anymore, instead we get semi finished beta versions the players have to play test themselves. Gone are the days of a full finished and polished product being sent to market, such a shame.

    I think Brethren moons are effectively impossible. First of all the amount of living organic tissue on earth for example is minuscule compared to all other matter. Definitely not enough to form a moon. Meteor maybe.
    Secondly the solar radiation would annihilate all organic tissue, necrotic even. I just don’t see them existing at all.
    PS I understand it’s a game, just for arguments sake

    • @thepreacher7399
      @thepreacher7399 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The wiki says the moons when first formed go to other planets to continue harvesting, I'd imagine the moons we see in game are all that large due to harvesting dozens if not hundreds of planets biomass.

    The Red Marker was found on Aegis 7 and Earth. Who on Earth, would bring the marker to Aegis 7!? I watch the movie Dead Space downfall: in beginning three people we're scouting on Aegis 7 and they found the Marker. Which is, it looked like black. But it was supposed to be red, not black. The black marker was the one built on Titan station. When I play Dead Space... it looks similar to the movie Resident Evil and Alien. Alien Resurrection, I watch the trailer. I heard a song. That freaks me out. I'm not afraid of it, just it freaks me out. And Resident Evil. Zombies: biting and infected humans. Necromorphs: bite to kill. Not bite to kill and infected humans.

    Personally, I see the Markers as something like John Carpenter’s “The Thing,” in that it contains or simply is a form of life so far evolved beyond our comprehension of xenobiology that it has attained complete and total control over its own physical form, all the way down to the genetic level. In the case of the Markers, though, they are a form of life that has evolved even beyond the basic genetic mastery of the Thing’s “Supercell.” The “Craftsmen”, as I’ll now refer to the hypothetical makers of the Markers, weren’t just able to manipulate the building blocks of life itself, NOT ONLY were they able to unlock the secrets of cellular reanimation on a planet-wide scale, but they were ALSO able to somehow transfer their conscious minds into and live eternally within vessels made entirely from inorganic material; the Markers. Over the span of their infinite existence, these Craftsmen may have gained such a sublime, transcendent view of “life” that to them, life and death are simply two states of being which they can manipulate in the same way we might simply flip a switch to turn the lights in a room off or on at our leisure. Maybe the spreading of the Markers across the cosmos REALLY IS meant to be a gift from the Craftsmen to show other forms of intelligent life that death can be transcended. But since they are so far beyond our ordinary stages of life bound by death, they are no longer capable of understanding that more primitive forms of sentient life simply aren’t ready to partake in Convergence. That to sacrifice biological individuality at the young age our species is at the series’s start causes existential trauma and devastation that VASTLY overshadows any good that could possibly come from the Craftsmen’s Convergence. I dunno. I just find it interesting to consider the possibility that the Brethren Moons actually harbor no hostility at all towards younger intelligent life forms and genuinely mean well. But their vast power and transcendent perception of life and the universe as a whole makes their every move and every attempt at communication feel cosmically threatening to less-evolved life forms still bound by the permanence of death.

    • @AyoKeito
      @AyoKeito 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, i agree that the first moon is actually creators making the marker and using it on themselves to evolve. After they became the moon they just start conquering the universe by converting everything alive to other moons. Sort of assimilation process. Maybe the end goal is to merge all the moons together. No idea how they'd figure out there's nothing alive in the universe anymore.

    • @welovegarro
      @welovegarro ปีที่แล้ว

      Then why do the moons seem to have the exact same urges that their pray does - to gorge and to breed? How can they transcend life and death if a frozen moon on Tau Volantis immediately calls for it’s brothers to feast on yet another dumb enough civilisation to fall into their trap, DESPITE their Black Marker trying to warn and stop them? I think the true transcendent beings are the Crafters who created the Markers in the first place. Markers are not “evil” (which would mean “trying to evolve an intelligent race into a uniform flying meatball”) in and of themselves. there are multiple examples in the DS universe, which showcase that Markers are trying to resist the Convergence and the moons’ influence (eg red Marker showed Isaac and Dr. Kyne how to stop the tragedy on Aegis and Ishimura).

  • @thedoruk6324
    @thedoruk6324 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    *YES!*
    My Current intrepretation of The Markers being either interdimensional objects that are able to 'mend' the flesh at micro or even atomic levels (some necromorphs are actuall ''alive'' lifeforms) and/or rouge *monoliths* (A.İ.) that destroyed their creator race and all species around the galaxies that spread through the universe, got required repurpose and recreate and 'harvest' life for themselves (however this could be their creator species purpose as well, as if the creator species being either fanatic purificationists as the white plant aliens from Ben10 and Species from Stellaris)
    In my view Necromorphs are potentially more powerfull and spreadable compared to the Flood

    • @ProjectACHERON
      @ProjectACHERON  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yeah i would say the Markers and Necromorphs are way more deadly that the Flood and far more likely to spread and encompass the bio mass of an entire galaxy. Whatever the markers origins it was obviously something very advanced and very morally questionable that lead to their creation!
