Video to this is one of Abba's finests and filmed by Oscar nominated director L.Hallstrom.FRIDA is very beautiful here and acts in a very convincing and seductive way.A must seen.
Hi, Matt! Absolute masterpiece. Benny killing on keys and Frida.... OMG, Frida❤ is amazing, showing us the lowest part of his vast vocal range. Until next time, Matt & Lucca Love ❤️ from Chile 🇨🇱👍
Hello , so nice to see you again reaction to the next ABBA songs un Arrival album "Money money money" (1976) it is a very good song in a different musical style, cabaret type, set in another era "Money money money" is the single that followed "Dancing Queen" and reached # 3 in the UK, #1 in Australia and several European countries. It is a totally different song from its predecessor "Dancing Queen" and also from its successor "Knowing me knowing you" This is the versatility of ABBA, they go from genre to genre, as well as from success to success The song lends itself very well to the brunette Frida's lower voice, the choruses are sharper in contrast (and very catchy) The instrumentation is excellent The official video is one of ABBA's best, very creative, it shows Them in fashion situations and also with their famous kimonos (and it's the favourite of their film director) But a few months before ABBA premieres the new official lyric video of "Money money money " I hope to see you soon with next ABBA songs There's so much surprise in these album My best regards to You from Buenos Aires Argentina 🇦🇷 South America
Hiya Matt! loving your spontaneous, articulate reaction to this song, so perceptive & open-hearted as always the inspiration for this song was in the German cabaret of the 1920s, i believe, fascinating how Abba were able to utilise such influences, with such flair & brilliance....ah yeah! dazzling & magical Thank you Matt for your truly intelligent sensitive perspective x
In an interview once , Frida said Agnetha could tell a story with her voice better than she could. I think she was shortchanging herself - her storytelling is just fine! Such an incredible band, writing and singing songs not in their native language that have stood the test of time and are fresh today just like they were 45 years ago. Such talent top to bottom for these 4. Thanks Matt, looking forward to our next journey. 👍
@@Lisa-M One man, one woman, wasn't a track I was very familiar with until recently. But it's quickly becoming one of my favourites. Frida is amazing in the solo verses, and when Agnetha joins in, the vocal power levels go into orbit.
I've never seen a cat you could just pick up without waking! When I first saw him I thought he was a pillow 😂 It's nice that Frida sings this one, as she did end up marrying a prince later in life and becoming a princess. But she was rich herself by that time from all of her ABBA spoils.
Another classic. Frida had a remarkable string of hits in this period, with Fernando, Knowing Me Knowing You and this one. This is ABBA's first dive into the musical genre, but certainly not their last. The next album in fact ends with a three-song mini-musical. I've always wondered if this song was inspired by Fiddler On The Roof ("If I were a rich man"). The music video was inspired by the musical Cabaret and is just as iconic as the song, with Frida looking at her finest.
Jake Shears (Scissor sisters) called this "a devilish song.." when he described the feeling with the lyrics and arrangements. Most people consider this a brilliant mini symphony..
I remember when I was 14, and this single was released, I went right out to the record store to buy it. I then went to my sister's house to play it on her record player, because she had nice big stereo with great speakers.....and all I had at the time was a small rinky-dinky record player. 😆
Ha, I love that. One of the great things of doing these reactions is hearing from people who have been impacted by the music of ABBA and others. Cheers, really appreciate the comment!
Pure fun and super campy, even by ABBA standards, plus one of the most dramatic key changes ever! This song always brings a smile…and never fails to get stuck in your head for days. The racing intro and manic progressions always make me think of the frenetic piano accompaniments to old melodramas and classic silent films like the Keystone Cops.
The album "Arrival" was a #1 album for ABBA all over the place, even #3 in Japan and #4 in Canada, but only Top 20 in America - never breaking the Top 10 like most ABBA albums in the US. In the UK and Germany, it was the best-selling album of 1977 and #7 in the best-selling albums of the '70s in the UK. It was the last #1 album ABBA had in New Zealand and Australia, after that, every album performed worst than the album before, until the release of ABBA GOLD The Greatests Hits in 1992 (GOLD is 16x and 18xPlatinum respectively).
Again- a masterpiece of pop! And Frida shines with her rich, deep and dramatic voice! And you are right - Benny and Björn shows their love and inspiration from the musical genre. So no surprise that they - after ABBA stopped working together in 1982, at least for about 38 years - made the epic Musical CHESS together with Tim Rice! ABBA' s legacy is impressive and endless! ❤️
I was about to say , as well : THE VIDEO .... Unexpected and creative ... check it out on your own time ...BTW I'm off to the post office today to send you some gifts for your channel !
At first, she was dreaming that if she marries a wealthy man, she doesn't have to worry about money and then if not she can try playing in a casino instead
Depending on what version of Arrival you are listening to, you should add Fernando to the album. It didn't feature on the original because it was put on a Greatest Hits release some months before as a bit of a bonus as it was the current single at the time before Dancing Queen.. It really belongs on the album and was put on with subsequent re-releases as a bonus track. It really belongs on the original to make it a cohesive whole and i think it should come after That's me.
He has already reacted to Fernando. And I have read that they didn't put it on the Arrival album because it was already at Frida's solo album "Frida Ensam". So they decided to publish it only as a single.

Heavily indebted to 'money money' from the musical 'Cabaret'.

Yes, they are both great storytellers, just in different ways. I just say "One Man, One Woman" from the next album. 🥰
@@Lisa-M One man, one woman, wasn't a track I was very familiar with until recently. But it's quickly becoming one of my favourites. Frida is amazing in the solo verses, and when Agnetha joins in, the vocal power levels go into orbit.
Another great vocal by Frida ideally suited to her voice. Very dramatic and luv the piano.
I've never seen a cat you could just pick up without waking! When I first saw him I thought he was a pillow 😂

A fine piece of theatrical baroque pop .I luv the 'saloon-broken piano' sound in the intro and the 'pompous' finale.
Frida slays

Ah, you said it! Darkness! I was just thinking this is another track that shows how much darker Frida can be. It's quite delicious! :D
The music video for this you should react to in the future.
Jake Shears (Scissor sisters) called this "a devilish song.." when he described the feeling with the lyrics and arrangements. Most people consider this a brilliant mini symphony..
Scissor Sisters = pure joy…inexplicably underrated. And Jake Shears is a definite top-ten candidate for best dinner guest, imho!

There had been a lot of fights while recording this track. Probably that's why Frida sounds a bit aggressive. 😅

This feels like it's from a musical...
Great song! Video is a classic too

Oh awesome! Thanks again in advance, really appreciate it!
At first, she was dreaming that if she marries a wealthy man, she doesn't have to worry about money and then if not she can try playing in a casino instead
She dreams to get herself a wealthy man but realizes that "If he happens to be free / I bet he wouldn't fancy me". That's painful.
ohh i hadn't noticed this phrase.Good point,lol.

Only Aussie and New Zealand album featured Fernando on b'side in between' Why did it have to be me 'and 'Tiger'.Now a rarity i guess.
Devilish 😉
