Love ABBA. You can't react to too many of their songs as far as I'm concerned. If you haven't checked out "Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight)", "One Of Us," "Fernando", and "Knowing Me, Knowing You" yet, you definitely need to.

Abba's back catalogue is so diverse, and stands up to the test of time both in terms of the songs, musicianship and those voices. The quality of the recordings is amazingly good and clear. And as you say they have so many styles. Great work JBLethal. This is one of my favourite Abba songs too, and I think the first I bought.

Abba was a great band. They really transcended their genre. They did happy songs, sad songs, you name it. You should check out Gimme Gimme Gimme (one of the greatest pop songs ever created), or a personal favorite of mine The Day Before You Came (the most perfect caption of Melancholy ever).

"If I had a little money!"........The fact is that they were one of the best selling pop/rock groups in music history - selling about 400 million records! So they were and are indeed rich. But they never let it go to their heads! They were - and still are - really down to earth people! Even Anni-frid - the dark haired - who got married to a german prince in the 1990´s and got the the title of Princess! Sadly he died of cancer - just a year after Anni-frid´s own daughter got killed in a car crash in the US!

The reason Abba weren't "talked about" as you put it is because they were ENORMOUS everywhere around the world.....except for USA for some strange reason. Americans never really 'got' Abba. Sure, they had 3 or 4 top 10 Billboard hits in the US, but, for example, in the UK, Abba had 9 number one hits, and 19 top ten hits in all. When Abba were in their heyday, Americans were more into stuff like The Eagles, Elton John, James Brown, Wings, Fleetwood Mac, BeeGees...etc A Swedish 'husbands and wives' singing group were seen as more of a oddity than a serious player in the Billboard charts.

celt67 - Agree. ABBA were huge everywhere except the US where, for some reason, it just wasn't "cool" to like music that was often just plain fun and uplifting. They were big next door in Canada and I loved them. They were mobbed like The Beatles in places like Australia. A lot of their songs sounded simple but were quite complex musically with great harmonies. The play "Mamma Mia" based on their songs was a massive worldwide hit too.

It should be clear that ABBA is not a disco band as some like to brand them. I recommend that one listens to Like An Angel Passing Through My Room. BTW, speaking of Money ABBA has donated half of the income from Chiqiquita starting in 1979 to the present to UNICEF.

Im so glad that i found your channel a couple of months ago, you´re so genuin and always make me smile, love the fact that you listen to older artists and not only the newer ones. You´re that kind of person that you want as a friend, you seem so nice!
Elton John - Candle in the wind/goodby england´s rose (Live at princess Dianas funeral) is a really Beautiful song, really powerful if you want to react to Elton John.
Terry Jacks - Seasons in the sun
The housemartins - Caravan of love
Just a couple of suggestions from a 90´s kid who loves old songs :)
    Keep up the good work!
    Love from Sweden!

I'm glad you react to as many songs as you can of every artist you like. So many listeners request the same few songs, & reactors post the same few hits of each group. So it can get a little boring after a while...there' so many songs that get neglected. I like hearing the more obscure songs & the B sides of albums!

As so many others have observed, your reactions are so honest and a joy to watch! I love, of course, that you are listening to "my" music (I am a 68 year old woman from Texas) - and you are right, we were lucky to have so much wonderful music! I love watching you fall in love with ABBA. I haven't seen you react to one of their biggest hits and most mindblowing arrangements - "S.O.S." They were one of the biggest groups in the world, back in the 70s, but despite some chart success, they were never really popstars or a cultural phenomenon here like they were throughout Europe and the southern hemisphere. They are still one of the biggest acts in Latin American, UK, and Australian history, despite being from Sweden. After they dissolved in 1982, they fell off the radio and were largely unheard of for a decade.
Gay people and hipsters kinda "rediscovered " them in the 90s. Popular UK synthpop act Erasure went to UK#1 with their hit cover of "Take a Chance on Me" in 1992 (REACT TO THIS VIDEO, YOU WON'T REGRET IT) and did a whole EP of ABBA covers called "ABBA-esque". There was also an ABBA tribute band called Bjorn Again who did an EP of Erasure covers in old-school ABBA style, just to be cute. (It worked, lol). And there were a couple of incredibly awesome Indie films from Australia in the mid-90s with ABBA-heavy soundtracks (Muriel's Wedding and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert) which helped elevate their profile, but they were just never as big of a deal in the US as they were everywhere else, so even if the year was 1980, you could be forgiven to not knowing a ton about them.
I mean, they had hits here ("Dancing Queen" even made it to US#1 around the time I was born), but they didn't easily fit into any radio format at the time so they get left off of a lot of streaming platforms aimed at a US market, today. They were too mellow for Rock stations, the dynamic and jarring for Soft Rock or Easy Listening stations and their experiments with Disco didn't get airplay on black radio. I guess, at this point, I like that they don't fit easily with anything else. They really are in a league of their own.

I was born in 75 and there is a video of me doing my potty training and this song is playing with me (badly) singing along. You could say I’m a lifelong ABBA fan lol
