    Kingsley North is a lapidary store in Michigan's U.P. They make a great cab machine and sell many other brands too. They have a huge selection rough rock, tumblers, grit, jewelry supplies etc. at good prices. I buy most of my coarse grit from here in 45 lb. bags. It's the best price I have found. If you buy using the following link, I make a small commission.

    I live in Central Ohio & just recently started gathering flint out at Nethers Farm. I am having an *absolute blast* with it. It's my first time tumbling rocks and this could not be a more perfect and varied material to use. It's like having 100 unique gems in one small bucket, every time. Plus it's a fun and inexpensive Family Sunny Day Trip (...and you can work out all of your stress by smashing big rocks and finding beautiful colors and crystals inside)!! 🤘😄

      My wife planned a trip to Hocking Hills in May. I know it's about an hour from Nether's farm, but is there anything worth looking for closer to Hocking Hills? I doubt that I'll be able to do any rock hunting, but my geologist son in law will be there, so there's a chance.

      @@MichiganRocks Hmmm, I know some roadcuts for plant fossils near Jackson, OH. If you want, I can send you coordinates, but they aren't anything super crazy. You might be able to find a spot for Zaleski flint, which is usually darker than the stuff from Nether's. It's found in Vinton County, near Hocking Hills, but unfortunately I don't know a good spot. I really need to do more exploring in that area of the state.

    Exceptional polish as always; I love to watch these videos and become fully mesmerized at your finished polished batches. I adore color and Ohio flint is no doubt some brilliant stuff. I also really love your in depth rock tumbling tutorial and I am always mentioning it on my channel- I can't tell you how many times I have watched it, each time coming away with something I may have missed or overlooked. It has 100% made me a better tumbler. Thank you Michigan Rocks!

      Rock tumbling is my strength for sure. I'm not sure which one you're watching because I've made several. I'm really glad they're helpful, there wouldn't be much point in making them them otherwise!

    Love the new video format. These are really cool rocks! When you say it takes a long time to tumble, how long? Do you think you could make guitar picks out of this material? They would be beautiful.

    • @MichiganRocks
      @MichiganRocks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I could make guitar picks, I hadn't thought of that. I have a few rough pieces left that I could slice thin.
      These tumbled for 3-4 months I think. I didn't really keep track but it was a long time. There were some deep V-shaped cracks that I wanted to get out, which takes a long time. If you don't mind some spots like that in your finished rocks, it wouldn't take quite as long.

      They sound quite a bit different than other rocks, more glassy. They also break more like glass, which is why they’re good for napping, I suppose..

    Great video as always. I'm on board with the split 'live/still' method of presentation as well. Flint ridge material is really neat stuff. I have some arrowheads made of the material from several knappers...also a Danish dagger by DC Waldorf. Appreciate all the effort you put into it!

    Nice! I'm doing my first ever tumble and I used 90 percent chert from a bag of landscaping rocks. Except for a few cracks they seem to be turning out good. Not as colorful as Ohio chert but not boring.

    Those turned out great. I think it polishes as well as any agate. Do you agree?
    The best ones seem to be the small stuff that Brad let us take from his deep, jack-hammered pit. His "scraps" so to speak. I assume that is where the bright-colored pieces with chalcedony came from. I don't recall us finding similar material elsewhere.
    The small ones at 8:40 to 9:25 are just fantastic!

    • @MichiganRocks
      @MichiganRocks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't remember exactly where different pieces came from, but I do remember that the stuff in Brad's hole was the most obviously colorful stuff. I'm still not sure how those tan colored ones would have looked if broken open.

      These are stones that arrowheads were made from. Native Americans came from all over for this stuff. I read that it was traded as far away as the Rocky Mountains and the Gulf of Mexico.
