Stop using bleach to clean your coop and halt ammonia in its tracks. Find out how I clean my coop...naturally. For more details on how I clean my coop: www.fresheggsdaily.blog/2012/1...
I like to use Dookashi in my coop. My chickens also snack on the dookashi just after I sprinkle it around the coop. I live in a hot environment and the ammonia fumes can build up on really hot days....the dookashi really helps. I enjoy your videos Lisa and have your book!
Thanks! It's on my to-do list. Only so much time in a day. But did you know that I do one at noon every Tuesday on the Backyard Poultry Magazine Facebook page? facebook.com/BackyardPoultry/ I also have a new TV show. Two Episodes already here: ourmaine.com/shows/fresh-eggs-daily-lisa-steele/
Thanks for the Video clip! Forgive me for butting in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you researched - Machaaldity Coop Blaster (just google it)? It is a smashing one of a kind guide for building a chicken coop without the normal expense. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my mate after many years got astronomical success with it.
Appreciate Video! Forgive me for butting in, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you considered - Machaaldity Coop Blaster (do a search on google)? It is an awesome one off guide for building a chicken coop minus the headache. Ive heard some decent things about it and my friend Sam at last got cool success with it.
nice, there is always so much dust in my coop. I use a poop hammock to catch feces so the floor stays pretty clean but I might have to try the dookashi
Thanks for the video. I use vinegar to clean the coop and never even thought about bleach mixing with the ammonia! I'm glad I know. And I never heard of the DooKashi so I will try it and your spray mixture. Do you have a video tour of your coop? I will look around your site. I would like to see how you have it set up for both the chickens and the ducks. Thanks again.

I noticed you didn’t do DE but I think I’ve read that you do add it in the floor of the coop. I’m just starting out and about to move the chickens over to the coop. I want to deep litter but it is so hot here in the spring and summer so I thought I would do straw for now? If I add the DE will it make it so I can’t compost it? I figured I would just throw the old stuff out into the run maybe
do you use straw only or mix of straw and wood shavings. I live in WA state and the rain has been making things very mucky. Also my flock is ducks and chickens. I have a poop collector system which catches all the roost poop into a trough. the ducks sleep under the collector. Bunk beds for birds. So the duck poop which is not visible as much is still on the floor bedding.
Sure you can. Have you checked amazon for vanilla bean though? the real vanilla really smells so much better, and you can reuse the bean for a few batches.
Lisa of Fresh Eggs Daily Lisa thanks for the quick reply. Good to know I can use it a few times. I have a capped Mason Jar out in the sun right now. Vinages/ orange peel / some lime peel / few sticks of cinnamon/ few cloves. I will let it steep in the pantry for a few weeks. And then put it into a spray bottle. In the mean time I will search for a few vanilla beans. Have a great morning! 🐓🇨🇦❤️
@@FreshEggsDaily, how do you keep the chickens from getting into the wet the ducks create? I'm building a coop right now, but was going to add a wall down the middle to keep chickens separate from the ducks.
it kinda looks like wheat bran because thats exactly what it is. ITs a japanese method they used called bokashi where they use beneficial microbes to stop the decomposition process. I make my own liquid form that lasts a year and innoculate the sawdust in the coop.. I wouldnt pay for this
Real nice job Lisa...Always great information
Very informative video, and I will following your advise in my chicken coop on Saturday. Thanks
Very nice, Ms. Lisa! It's so funny how much the ducks do love that straw! xo
Wonderful video! Thank you for sharing! 😁

Lisa, I love your videos! Do you use Dookashi to replace diatomaceous earth? :)
No, in addition. DooKashi removes ammonia fumes. The DE does soak up some of the ammonia, but its mostly for fly/mite control.

Amy Barnes yes I use DE in the coop,or lime. I have used both and both will compost. I only do the deep litter in the winter.

I just use straw, but a mix is fine too.
Lisa what do you think about putting rubber stall mats down in the coop i'm going to be getting baby ducks this summer
Sandy Minor sure great idea. Easy to house off and clean.
Can you share your orange peel recipe, sounds amazing!
Here you go.www.fresheggsdaily.blog/2012/06/homemade-orange-peel-white-vinegar-coop.html
Ty
Have you tried out hemp bedding?
Yes I used it all summer. I love it but did switch back to straw for the winter.
I am going to make a jar of the Citrus Cleaner - can I use a few drops of vanilla instead? Or leave it out. Vanilla bean here in 🇨🇦is very $$

Does sweet pdz also help with ammonia?
It does but I don't find it works nearly as well as Coop Recuperate or just plain DE.
Is DooKashi ok for rabbits to be around? If they eat it is it ok?
I guess. It's just bran flakes and molasses, but I dont' raise rabbits so I'm not 100% sure.
Do you keep both chicken and ducks in the same coop?
Yes our chickens and ducks share the coop. Our geese have their own house.

do you have some details on this?
