In answer to Mark's question about, what do you do after all the poor decisions. As a Liverpool fan, you look at the game and realize that Liverpool are the only team that can consistently upset the "best team in Europe", who continue to compete without national sponsors. You can stick your purchased titles, we are, and continue to be a proper football club.
A rather smug and deluded view. ‘National sponsors’ so that’s the Liverpool narrative is it? Let’s face it Liverpool are hardly poor are they? And this fine bastion for everything that’s good and proper we’re quite happy to bugger of to a European Super League initially. Plus FFP works quite nicely in Liverpools favour and maintains the status quo for the cabal at the top of the PL that other clubs aren’t allowed to spend money in order to break into. Have you heard of Schadenfreude? As a Forest supporter I’m glad to see hypocrisy is alive and well amongst some Liverpool supporters. I doubt very much that you would be critical of Paul Tierney last week. But as a football fan, the ones saying its not a pen then try validating that beliefe based on footballing reasons just look idiotic imo and don't understand the game.
All of their comments against are actually false. Not one of their arguments for it not being a penalty have any weight because penalties and cards have been given for less, and been less clear. Macallister was not only there first, but it doesn't matter if he was there first or not. Still a high boot with clear studs out. Intention doesn't matter, softness or not doesn't matter. Time doesn't matter as several times this season teams have gotten penalties or calls back 2 minutes after the fact. United even had one where both teams were already in the locker room. It's all just bullocks and corruption. Michael Oliver used to be one of the best but he and his team are bought out. I don't think he should be a ref in the league anymore, but especially during city games due to conflict of interest.
All the points people use to argue why it shouldnt be a penalty are just complete bollocks. People say Doku got the ball, he did not, Mac got there first. Even if he did, reckless endangerment is a foul no matter if you get the ball or not. They say the followthrough or contact was unintentional, it is still reckless endangerment, and if that somehow is an argument then why did Curtis Jones get a red card when his contact was unintentional too? This was the most stonewall penalty you'll ever see, and the fact that the VAR didnt even let the ref have a second look is completely insane.
The worst thing about var is they say they dont want it to re referee the game, but thats what it is supposed to do to do so, imo they even make all that too confusing for themselves
As a Liverpool fan we have to take it in our stride and hope it spurs the players on to do even better as it has before with other decisions. That's all we can do.
Ben Foster, the problem isn't the tool, it's the men behind the tool. Bundesliga have no problems with VAR because of their professionalism and transparency. Even Eredivisie have better transparency than the PL. VAR is supposed to help the on field ref to make the right decisions, instead we have this senseless laws that PREVENT them from helping the on field ref. Lastly, the refereeing team for that game is the exact same team that went to UAE for their little gig.
FA's ruling on high boot (paraphrased): "The high boot is defined by the foot being in a dangerous place (told as above the waist for referees) and is a foul, regardless of whether the ball is touched or not" Clear pen
Should be a challenge system, like tennis. Managers have 3 challenges to the on-field decision that go to VAR. Make its use tactical. Make its involvement minimal.
I concur. Should be one challenge per half and if you win your challenge you can challenge again. With VAR it wouldn't take very long for them to call these challenges. Most certainly not nearly as long as an NFL timeout
Mention Havertz "dive" (there was actually some contact), but don't mention the fact Brentford spent the whole game diving and pretending to be injured. Both Arsenal vs Brentford games are in the top 5 lowest ball in play matches in the Premier League this season. They're pathetic
Havertz should have been on the pitch because the first yellow wasn’t a yellow. You can’t say var should intervene to give a yellow if it can’t intervene to take one away. And if you do think the first one was a yellow then you must also think that you can’t put hands on players at all meaning Trossard should have had a penalty. This would have put Arsenal 2-1 up and meant Havertz wouldn’t have had to dive to try to cheat a penalty
1. It's not uncharacteristic for Ederson. 2. Arsenal are not "continuing to grind out these wins", after multiple high scoring games, the highest GD in the league and the most Clean Sheets. 3. Everton are not one of the highest on XG, they are mid table, exactly where they would be if they didn't have the point deductions (Higher than UTD though).
2) Arsenal have had more blowouts, but also had to grind out more close wins. Arsenal won 9 games by 1 goal compared to City (7) and Liverpool (4). 15 of Liverpool's 19 wins were by 2 goals or more. Only 11 of Arsenals 20 wins were by 2+ goals. That's the definition of grinding out wins.
No mention on the awful decisions in the west ham game… onside goal ruled out & a clear handball not given for a penalty in the last moment of the game
The goalie bias is strong with this one. Dokus high foot is foul everywhere including the penalty area, but Edersons flying tackle with both feet in the air, studs up is a foul everywhere except the penalty area? You can't say it's a foul everywhere else on the pitch while only wanting one of those 2 pens given...
when it comes to the doku challenge they’ve come out and said the reason it wasn’t a penalty is cus he’s got the ball first. You simply cannot get the ball then follow through studs up on any part of a player, curtis jones got a red for standing on bissoumas foot accidentally so surely studs up into someone’s chest is the same? i was more thinking about if it was a red card or not cus i was certain it was a pen
I genuinely thought it was a joke at first when they said it, I'm trying to imagine a another situation like it where I wouldn't think it was a red. He came blazing across the pitch, like a fucking ballistic missile and just axed Udogies legs. If he had just clipped the trailing leg and put his hands up, then yeah sure just a yellow. But he just straight Johnny Lawrence'd him.
Their comments sound even more ridiculous if you remember how they were shouting for a red card for Havertz after his tackle against Newcastle in early November. These two tackles by McGinn and Havertz were very very similar.
You’re all wrong. The referee for the penalty decided on field that he got to the ball. His question to VAR was did he make contact with ball, yes! Case closed for the referee. But, stone wall penalty.
Ben 'spurs' Foster, straight into red card discussion before discussing the game. Talk on the pens, and the angle of the 'dive' where havertz takes contact. Correct answer was too soft for a pen, too much for a dive. Easy to answer if you consider everything.
It's Watto who I can't stand, the guy doesn't have an ounce of ball knowledge outside of old school goalkeeping Bro hears the words Kai Havertz and almost shouts "SHOULD HE HAVE BEEN ON THE PITCH THOUGH" - yes mate if you open your eyes you can see how bullshit the first yellow was
@@Yaqoothe's not my character, and I hear what you're saying he's very old school. I do think he has good insight at times, just clearly has his biases, gives major 'small club' energy. We all have something to add to these conversations, I just like to see all sides represented well.
What impressed me most was the way Liverpool were pummelling City like a Young Mike Tyson smelling blood. City looked terrified at times, they didn't look like they could last another five minutes at the end, they'd been run so ragged. If I was one of the teams both have to face in the run-in, I'd be more scared of Liverpool, tbh. Seeing how Liverpool negated De Bruyne so effectively, I'd have half a hope of making them struggle, especially now they've got Ortega for however many games. I think Liverpool have the easier run-in of the top three, but this is the Premier League, and stranger things have happened, I can't see Spurs making any great leaps but it'd be nice to see them in the CL again at least.
I fully understand the means of what Ben said about the Doku-Mac Alister situation but yeah when someone goes full studs up in this manner its a straight pen, btw the fact that Mac Allister turned makes it worse for him since he could either dislocated part of his ribcage with even minor contanct or worse have the studs dig into his liver (assuming he turned with his left side)
Liverpool with one first choice player in their back 5, no Salah for an hour, few options in midfield while City were full strength. That for me is the better way to look at the game. We can all say it should have been a penalty etc, but I'd rather look at the positives. When do you see KDB subbed as he is having no effect on a game? How often do City have less possession? When have you seen Rhodri so ineffective? When do you see Pep flustered? As a Liverpool fan to me that is what we should be looking at. Refs will continue to make mistakes, VAR is inept and needs rethought. It felt like a defeat in the end but once you watch it again and look for the positives then it could be the point that wins the title for Liverpool. Don't fall for YT pundits looking for clicks and for people to fall out with each other in the comments. Best of luck to all supporters of all clubs in the last 10 games, I hope you are as proud of your players as I am of ours.
Remember when the full time whistle was blown in a Man United game and then they gave a penalty for them to win the game. There is 110% an agenda against Liverpool winning the league. It’s beyond a joke and for the sake of football, not just Liverpool fans, we need to stand up and force a change and proper consequences for officials with major mistakes.
Such a weird argument against VAR from Foster. Of course we would remember. I still remember Arsenal vs Liverpool quarterfinal in 2008. "VAR is bad because referee didn't use VAR". Like, what? If anything that episode is proof VAR is needed and should be used more.
A bad decision made back when officials didn't have the benefit of a 2nd look can be forgiven even if not forgotten. To have it and not be called to use it when a pen call was so obvious introduces an inconsistency that proves why it is better not to have it at all. The prob that will always exist with VAR is that it is making so many decisions on grey areas in the game, unlike hawkeye in the tennis or even goal line tech where it can't be argued that the decision is correct or not. Its black or white every time! The benefit of no VAR is no time lost. The amount of decisions made that remain controversial despite VAR and the time lost to come up with a controversial decision is frustrating for fans and players alike!
Ben as a goalkeeper how have you not noticed Edison didn’t actually hurt the leg he kicked thingy with instead he hurt what seems to be his knee after he landed on it after the kick
I think the fact he had already awarded us a penalty (a stonewaller) went against us. Oliver thought if he awards us 2 penalties in a game ... at Anfield , he'd never hear the end of it .
Getting bored with the Liverpool was robbed chat. Last season, we were robbed of 8 points through VAR errors, we were told we are making excuses, and we shouldn't be relying on refs and we bottled the league. Liverpool however!
What needs to happen about VAR - when a bad call is made, the manager who has had the advantage needs to speak out! There are obvious reasons why they don’t. As soon as they do things will change!
I'm 34 years old and have been a Manchester United fan since I was 4 or 5 years old. We truly need a new stadium. A little interesting that there was no mention of Garnacho rolling around like he’d broken his leg and then sitting up and celebrating the penalty being given.
They only call the ref to the screen if the var are telling the ref the decision needs to be changed, that’s why when they go to the screen the decision is always changed.
They are giving the referee to have a better look at it. Sometimes they rig it, like they did showcasing a still picture at the worst moment when Curtis Jones slipped over the ball and landed into the shin of a Spurs player to manipulate the perception.

That McGinn tackle was 100% a red card, wtf? He deliberately punts Udogie's leg out of pure frustration. You cannot do that, even if your attempt didn't result in a serious injury. We've seen reds given for much less. But, tbf, we've also seen some horrendous tackles not given as reds (Havertz's lunging slide at Burn, Nketiah's studs-up slide at whatever keeper it was, Udogie's two-footer).
Funny how this week Mark says the Doku one is a def penalty because if it happened anywhere else on the pitch it's a foul. Yet during the Manchester derby, Rodri can get rugby tackled to the ground, and a penalty given and Mark has a hissy fit about it.
Pull him over to have a look and just show him a still image of the studs to the chest like what they did for the Jones red card against spurs. VAR is a joke.
Considering they only did such a thing against LFC, it is safe to say, they were not going to do that again. Attwell's disgrace sheet against LFC is almost as long as Tierney's.
The problem with var is....."getting the ref to go look at the screen" is not saying go and have a look and decide.....its basically saying to the ref you have got this wrong....come over to the screen and then go with our decision!! The guys in var basically over rule the ref! How many times have we seen the ref look at the screen and stick to his original decision?? I don't think I've seen that yet! That's why all the fans start cheering as soon as the ref goes towards the screen....because they know the decision is not the refs anymore! There to much pressure on him not to go with another 2-3 guys in the var room
This talk on Rambo not going into mid table is silly. What top club would take him. He can potentially go to Chelsea, which is midtable club by the way. And or Newcastle as he is clear of their GKS, but I doubt they sell pope. No top team will have him,
Do Arsenal confirm top 4 without the points saved by Rambo last season? One of the players of the season last 2 seasons as well. Short term memory perhaps...
Glad we are all on board with Arteta’s choice of Raya over Ramsdale now, surprised it took the goalies on this podcast longer than most to admit Arteta was right to move on
Reds fan here, yes it should be pen, but most disappointing is some wasted chances....Diaz, Szobo & Gakpo should've scored, it is clear they're still not big game players yet
So if the intent is there to hurt Udogie, it’s a red? That’s intentional dangerous play, or should we allow people to go out here and hurt people now? Poor take
Stonewall penalties not given against City and Arsenal plus the shit show at spurs amounts to 5 points. That will more than likely cost Liverpool the title.
I'm sorry Ben I have to disagree with you a few times. (Arsenal fan for context) Without VAR things like the Diaz offside and the Odegaard handball would still be spoken about, it would just be the referee on the day taking the blame rather than the clowns in the VAR office instead. Is VAR used incorrectly largely. Yes but without it we would still have the same memory of the Referee errors like we did before VAR. In the same breath you can't argue VARs faults then argue it should have intervened to send off Havertz for a second yellow when your calling for less usage unless you want VAR to look at every possible booking. But also gloss the really light yellow card that was first received. If he was sent off you'd be talking about how soft the first yellow is.
well The difference between the havertz dive situation and the odegaard handball and the luis diaz goal is m8 that var cant get involved re second yellow cards so you cant blame var for havertz not being sent off for diving were as the other two situations you mentioned you can blame var because thats exactly what it is there for 🤔
@@simonoliver8576 but that's the point Ben literally said in the video why are var not taking a look at the havertz dive to give him a second yellow. Therefore even though always saying we should scrap var to avoid situations being remembered like Diaz or odegaard that we are having more interventions
PGMOL are the 21st team in the league that Liverpool have to play. One of the key reasons theres a tight title race is due to incompetence of VAR. lets be honest. liverpool should be at least 4-5 points clear given the spurs, City and Arsenal games.
Got away with what. A drop ball 90 yards away from the Forest box. Oh ya, ‘monumental error’ according to to that fraud Mike Dean (who has admitted in the past that he didn’t send Michael Oliver to the monitor because he didn’t want to get his mate in more trouble).
So last week the ref got the rules completely wrong which advantaged Liverpool leading them to a winner this week Liverpool upset over a decision and uproar haha
It's outrageous how these referees keep making errors or calls, which clearly favours just one team. You gotta ask, who is benefiting from these outrageous calls? When it happens, this is regularly and especially against one particular team. This has to stop! Liverpool has been robbed at least 5 points. Liverpool should be the clear favourites to take out PL, in my opinion. After watching the mc game, wow, what a team. It doesn't matter who starts or substituted. Each player comes on and not just fills in the position, but they really know how to leave an impression on the football world.
Is Ake not in the same blocking position as Endo was for the disallowed goal from the carabao cup? So how was this not called offside… corner position different than a free kick?
Mac Allister was fouled by Ake, and if Mac Allister were more forceful in getting to the goal line would give Ake excuse to cry foul and fall over. Mac Allister should have been protected by the referee but Oliver doesn't care about fair play and is complicit in the Man City match fixing epidemic
You’ve got it completely wrong with how it works in the VAR room according to the rules, it’s not that they are mates or whatever that makes them back the referees decision, the rule is that the VAR room is SUPPOSED to back the referee in his decisions, if they can’t back him up, then they will ask him to look on the screen because he probably should change is decision, if you can make a case for the referees decision, it stands, that’s the rule, not a good rule, it should be changed but it is the rule
VAR cannot overrule a yellow card decision. Even if havertz dive is a yellow, they can't just give it. Also, can you notice it is a dive if you are watching it at normal speed in ref position? No. It is just VAR slomo make you notice the dive.
Why would they? Your 13th doing absolutely nothing meanwhile it’s the most exciting title race in years and one of the more competitive years for European places. I wonder why Bournemouth don’t get talked about🤨

I'm sure the refs were happy with a draw and didn't want to make it any harder for City than it needed to be 😅
The worst thing about var is they say they dont want it to re referee the game, but thats what it is supposed to do to do so, imo they even make all that too confusing for themselves
Not true, I watch bundesliga every week and there's at least been 4-5 decisions from the refs and VAR that has been literal wtf moments
I played CB at a high level and I disagree that goal is not McCallisters fault
FA's ruling on high boot (paraphrased): "The high boot is defined by the foot being in a dangerous place (told as above the waist for referees) and is a foul, regardless of whether the ball is touched or not"
Clear pen
Best trio on the best football review show in the world. Up the Fill In Up the Fozcast!
Mcginn's kick was definitely a red
I asked the former professional referee Keith Hackett and he said it was a nailed on penalty. Good enough for me.
no fucking way someone said kyle walker is the best rb in pl history that is a fucking joke
It's not just one person, most modern fans I've heard think that too.
And why isn’t he?
Am I crazy for immediately assuming that McGinns tackle was obviously going to be a red? I really didn't think there was another way to look at it.
Their reason for it not being a red is “he tried to injure him but failed” seriously wtf hahah
Goldbridge is always spot on when he talks about referees. Unbiased opinion and doesn't pull any punches. Great for youtube.
HahHahaha
exept everytime he talks about united desitions then he is the most biast man on earth haha

@@edrahimovic Weird agenda about fans blaming the ref for making a good call instead of the players for missing 50 chances
You’re all wrong. The referee for the penalty decided on field that he got to the ball. His question to VAR was did he make contact with ball, yes! Case closed for the referee. But, stone wall penalty.
What is all that waffle? It was a pen, VAR didn't give it, and the referees take paid gigs in the UAE. It's corruption, plain and simple
If either player had been Casemiro he’d have got a red ! Either for the high foot or for running into the foot looking for a penalty 🤔
if that was Granit shaka too straight red
Exactly what I said during the game! Refs are too biased
Ben 'spurs' Foster, straight into red card discussion before discussing the game. Talk on the pens, and the angle of the 'dive' where havertz takes contact. Correct answer was too soft for a pen, too much for a dive. Easy to answer if you consider everything.
It's Watto who I can't stand, the guy doesn't have an ounce of ball knowledge outside of old school goalkeeping

We all have something to add to these conversations, I just like to see all sides represented well.
Watching the match I thought the reason they were deciding if it was either a yellow or red card. But to not even call it a foul is an absolute joke
I just love our team atm (liverpool) Endo, Mac Allister were magnificent and we completely dominated the second half and it's absolutely a pen
Nunez dive like a clown to get a penalty.
Because he’s a keeper not a physio
They get fined for putting the integrity of the game into disrepute
Good luck with that!
@@ianfinnity2732 it’s never going to happen. That’s why I don’t think anyone in the game has a real problem with VAR!

The thing is Macalister touched the ball 1st, it's penalty all day long
I'm 34 years old and have been a Manchester United fan since I was 4 or 5 years old. We truly need a new stadium. Old Trafford has been around for 115-116 years, via improvements and renovations, but I believe it's time to move on from the past and build a brand-new, modern stadium, just like that of Brentford, Everton, Arsenal, and other teams.
I totally agree with you. out with the old and in with the new.
Do you think they'll call it new Trafford?
@@bhvillaman4401 I'm not 100% sure what they'll call it but they need to do is make it a multi purpose arena/stadium So they could call it "The New Trafford Arena or Stadium" also once it's built they need to keep it up to date and modernised for the next 100+ years.
@@bhvillaman4401 90% they'll keep Trafford in it, if not they may have other names for the stadium. But I think the best name is The New Trafford Stadium or Arena.
No one going to talk about the penalties arsenal should have got? No? Just the havertz dive was controversial? Ok cool👌🏻
A little interesting that there was no mention of Garnacho rolling around like he’d broken his leg and then sitting up and celebrating the penalty being given.
That segment on Spurs is absolutely criminal.. not one mention of their performance as a team or individuals such as Johnson & Sarr. Pathetic.

Just imagine how much air time the last minute handball not given by VAR at the London stadium would have got if it was in the City vs Liv game!
That's not actually true. It doesn't always get changed following looking at it again.
Same thing happend two season ago with the Rodri penalty against Everton....a clear penaly not sanctioned...It's City.
If that was supposed to be a penalty than Macalister who apparently touched the ball first with his arm, is that also meant to be a foul?

You can't be offside from a corner
Doesn't matter how Maccy runs, it's a pen all day long. I'm so sick of City and them getting every call. As they need the help from the officials to help them win. It's injustice tbh. Up the FFI
11:21 not the same thing at all… one was an instinctual reaction to a circumstance, the other was a pre-worked set piece.
Great content as always! I can't see how a pen wasn't given!
Funny how this week Mark says the Doku one is a def penalty because if it happened anywhere else on the pitch it's a foul. Yet during the Manchester derby, Rodri can get rugby tackled to the ground, and a penalty given and Mark has a hissy fit about it.
The whole explanation of Mac allister putting himself into doku is exactly why it isn’t a penalty for me
VAR has affected this season more than ever before.
VAR hasn't. Corrupt criminal refs using it have. They literally get paid reffing gigs in the UAE pro league. It's so obviously corruption
Odegaard handball made no difference. They equalised pretty much straight away after it.
How can you talk as much about dull man united game and only few minutes about huge Spurs performance
Not PK. It was McAllister's fault to bang his chest against Dokus's studs and caused his studs to hurt!!
Well Havertz should be on the pitch becausee his first yellow was bs and so 2nd wouldn't of mattered
That’s not how it works 😂
Walker is just a pace merchant
This talk on Rambo not going into mid table is silly. What top club would take him. He can potentially go to Chelsea, which is midtable club by the way. And or Newcastle as he is clear of their GKS, but I doubt they sell pope. No top team will have him,

Don't you mean 4 points?
Thanks Pratbridge, Pratben and Pratwatto x
I'm sorry Ben I have to disagree with you a few times. (Arsenal fan for context)
Without VAR things like the Diaz offside and the Odegaard handball would still be spoken about, it would just be the referee on the day taking the blame rather than the clowns in the VAR office instead.
Let’s not forget this was the same Liverpool who got away with one against Forrest last week.
Got away with what. A drop ball 90 yards away from the Forest box. Oh ya, ‘monumental error’ according to to that fraud Mike Dean (who has admitted in the past that he didn’t send Michael Oliver to the monitor because he didn’t want to get his mate in more trouble).
‘Monumental error’ = disallowed goal for offside vs Spurs, handball vs Arsenal, pen vs 115 Charges FC yesterday
Monumental is NOT a drop ball 90 yards from the Forest goal
So last week the ref got the rules completely wrong which advantaged Liverpool leading them to a winner this week Liverpool upset over a decision and uproar haha
By the way listing 3 incidents stinks you need to see how many other times VAR screwed other teams to this season.

There never gunna give that penalty in the last seconds of the game
