@@jacksindaco2627 that’s a fair point but I think it depends who he picks. Eze was drifting in from the left wing and looked amazing doing it, Foden isn’t a wide winger, he should be given the freedom to drift inside and if he doesn’t have that freedom that’s on Southgate.

There was a quote from Southgate after the game about Trent still learning that midfield role. You’ve had 2 years to prepare for this tournament, why the f*** is the learning being done now?? You shouldn’t begin a major tournament still trying to figure out how you’re going to play and what role guys are going to play. With this much talent it shouldn’t take much to figure out a half decent way of playing.
It's the same line parroted each time and is pure PR drivel from Southgate because he's been told to answer questions that way. He doesn't have a real answer.

Either play him with Gordon/Eze or just bench him..

Dave Watson is a Barnsley legend and his career was cut short but listening to his analysis is a breath of fresh air. Theres a reason he’s been a coach at some good teams.

I’d love to see just 1 game with our full strength squad but with Watkins in place of Kane.
I don’t deny Kane is the better striker overall but I feel Watkins play-style just fits this team better.
lot like how fernando torres was breath of fresh air to that spain side around 2007-8. They went on some 40 match unbeaten streak hed be so productive with saka too similar to how he plays at villa with bailey. Its a no brainer to anyone watching. Makes them threat vertically and allows space for foden, bellingam, to thrive also. Really love to see it.

The fact that a lot of the media chose to focus on Trent who’s learning to play a new role but the likes of Gary Neville are saying all eyes are on him and Foden should be allowed an off night when he has never really performed for England. That’s not shade to Foden he’s an amazing player but it’s not working in an England shirt. Harry Kane needs to stop dropping in to midfield all the time. Southgate is not a proactive manager it was made even clearer when he didn’t bring either Eze, Watkins or Gordon on.
Foden has had more criticism than anyone!

All the attackers had an off night but only Foden is being spoken about. Why is Trent allowed to learn a new position on the go but Southgate said for years Foden couldn’t be given a chance in midfield because he wasn’t playing there for City?
What is Goldbridge on about?? Luke Shaw kept on coming back BEFORE he was ready, which caused him to get injured again. Shaw himself said this in an interview recently.
Honestly Wharton next to rice will open this team up and allow the freedom and watch Rice get even more forward

Southgate as England manager, good luck winning anything. I would have gone 442 in that game. Jude Bellingham is a machine in that midfield and doing most of the work. He’s protecting the back four and attacking the same time.
I would have taken off Trent at halftime played a midfield two of Rice and Jude. Brought on either Watkins or Ivan Toney, to support Kane. That game needed two strikers.
I would have taken off Foden and Saka after 65mints for Gordon and Cole Palmar. 75mints I bring on Mainoo for Bellingham and Ivan Toney for Kane.
There’s no way I’m playing Trent in midfield.

Unsure whether it's tactical, but Pickford puts us under huge pressure. As an Arsenal fan, I saw a number of times in the game where Arsenal would've eased the pressure by keeping the ball ticking over at the back. Pickford on the other hand, just repeatedly boots it long, toward a team of giants who just kept easily winning their headers and recycling the pressure. He's gotta do better for me.

The first 20mins were a masterclass in passing sideways and backwards: possession without creating chances - even the goal was a bit lucky! Rice is a poor man's Mainoo, if he had a bit more about him we wouldn't have been under so much pressure. Bellingham was excellent and Guehi really looked the part.
Rice is world class in side pass,back pass,anyhow pass 100 million overated, overpriced player. Drop him you will see a better attacking play. England have players to play all out attacking football. We don't need dm like rice, let the defender do the job.

Am I the only one who thinks Bellingham should not play double pivot with Rice at all? Didn't England try this during the World Cup and instantly change the formation because of the midfield imbalance. Everybody criticized it and England started putting Rice as solo 6 and they brought Hendo as an 8 alongside Jude and it worked well throughout the tournament. Bellingham should either play as a 10 or as an 8, not as a double pivot with Rice.

I'm a Newcastle fan. Gordon has carried us this season, along with a few other elite players in our squad (Bruno+Isak), through our injury crisis. He is a match winner. I think he is already at Saka level. He is tenacious, an incredible runner. Great both sides of the ball. Direct, a goal threat, allround game is fantastic. Saka on the right, Gordon on the left. Get it done, pin opposition back, if they come out, those two will torch fullbacks; both carry a threat shooting from around the box, and are comfortable holding width, or threatening inside, against teams parking the bus.
I can already see myself hating Southgate even more and more as this tourney goes on, I have a horrible feeling Gordon won't be considered
I agreed with a lot of what Goldbridge said, until he called Gordon a steady edy, he is a lot more than this. Go back and watch his season, barely anyone is progressing the ball, taking players on, making key passes, tackles, the lot, like he is. Trippier as well had a dodgy christmas. Until this point he was miles ahead on the assist tally, and was on for pots at right back. Apparently a scandal with him and his wife? rumours but his form went downhill at this point. Both are high quality, not 'steady'

For me, Southgate is just a liability, picking TTA in midfield and a right back at left back is pathetic.
Sakka was exceptional in the fast half hour, and then anonymous, and should have been hooked.
Southgate is so negative and so behind the times with the use of substitutes.
Mc Kenna at Ipswich is a master at utilising the whole squad, and making substitutions to alter games.
Serbia adapted to England doing really well, and we failed to change a single thing tactically once they had done that, and it was crying out for Gordon on the left, Watkins up the middle, and whoever you like to replace Sakka.
England should have kept the waistcoat and ditched Southgate.
Finally, Leif Davies would do a great job for England on the left
No lb and no lw - need to play 3 at the back with 2 attacking wing backs either side, gordon and Trent and that means you can get both in the team and provide width
Jude and rice in the middle with Jude having licence to get forward cos stones is comfortable stepping into midfield
Then you can play Foden more centrally just off kane and saka on the right
So many options with this England squad it's very frustrating watching Southgate do so little

The thing no one is talking about at all is that Serbia were super physical and were absolutely muscleing England as their main tactic. They might not be the technically best team but it's like when Stoke did their thing in the prem, they do their physical thing well and are a harder team then on paper to beat.
I think people don’t give enough respect to Serbia. Yes they’re physical and lack technical ability especially at the back but Mitrovic and Vlahovic is no joke as a strike partnership

Madrid Jude is the type of player who can singlehandedly win you games… just as he showed against Serbia.
Phil hardly made a case for himself as England’s 10 in the Iceland game, so why would you compromise Jude’s goal contributions to fit him in.
Gareth needs to have the balls to make big decisions... and Phil has to be dropped. He’ll be Jude’s replacement off the bench.

I think the netherlands game was good example of what southgate can't do.. Poland made changes and started dominating the game then the dutch saw this and made subs to counter it.. when we make changes everything stays the same
I have to agree about Pickford. I've never been a huge fan of his, not negatively just never thought he was good enough but I am really wrong. Even when Everton are doing poorly you never point the finger and Pickford and he makes the saves when he needs to unless his backline really let him down.
He's solid.

England need to give Anthony Gordon and Cole Palmer a start in the group.
Pickford is probably the best we’ve got, but that doesn’t make him ‘really good’, he’s fine. Too many basic errors, don’t love his decision making when it comes to shot stopping, and his calamitous errors, leaves you with your head in hands. Unfortunately we don’t have a keeper that would have saved the Danish shot to the corner, just remember how shocking Ramsdale is at trying to cover the bottom corners, because he can’t use his feet, you can always beat him near post.
I would put saka at left back he’s done it before and play parmer on the right
