      Warren Salter I have done over 75 mph with the 17/40 sprockets . But my Hawk isn't completely stock. I have ported , polished and decked the head to bump up the compression ratio to 10:1 since i made this video. I've also swapped out the carb to a Heihin PWK 30 carburetor with the power jet to compensate for the free flowing head and exhaust. The stock pz30 was too restrictive.

      If you find the 17/40 to tall a gear ratio, You can always swap out the front sprocket to a 16 or 15 tooth. I swap out to the 15 when I go off road trail riding. 16 tooth is good in-between for light off road and highway.

    • @JerryHawk250
      @JerryHawk250  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had no problems getting it registered. I went to one of the local notary / title shops and avoided the DMV. lol First make sure the MCO states "Motorcycle" ( you can request this from where you buying it from) 2nd the MCO and BOL must be notarized. 3rd you will need the Odometer disclosure statement. 4th have Proof of Insurance. I got my bike from APSCUSA.com and Don sent all three in perfect order. The bike will be listed as a "HAOSEN'' with the DMV. It took me less the 15 minutes to get it registered and tagged. Like I said avoid the DMV and go to one of the Notary/title shops. Those people want your money and will make sure it goes through.

      @@dirtbikeTIMES I've had no problem with the filters. They are just a screen filter. The metal shavings are probably from the cooler it's self. The screen filter will catch them. You could try flushing the cooler out before instaling.

I live in the mountains and couldn't maintain speed going uphill with the 17. It was a lot faster though. On a flat road it wasn't much of an issue. I used 1"x1"x1/8" aluminum angle to make a bracket and used the lower motor mount bolts to attach to frame. I wasn't hard to install. It connects where your existing oil screen is located. The oil screen is relocated in line for easy access for cleaning. The oil is drained from the oil plug on the bottom of the engine.

    • @JerryHawk250
      @JerryHawk250  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It will make a difference. Oil runs cooler so it doesn't break down as quick and engine runs cooler. I can go 1,000 miles between oil changes and oil will not turn black. Before the oil cooler the oil would be black at 500 miles. If you live in a hot climate it is definitely worth it. I added a 2nd cooler a few months back. I'll be posting another video soon.

    I want to know how you people I keep seeing on TH-cam are managing that high of a ratio with the Hoas Hawk 250's low assed horsepower. I own a 2015 and have been following chinariders forums and people like yourself and Motocheez on TH-cam. I have done all the recommended mods and upgrades (not counting the oil-cooler But I just found it so no pressure, right?) with aftermarket parts and yet mine fails to preform with the sporty more powerful vigor as shown on the videos. I tried new front sprocket making mine 17/50 first and it was better so i bought me a 45t rear and tried that. It was a total blast of speed....if I had a 60mph tail wind going down hill. On a strait stretch my RPM was much lower but at the cost of top speed being 55 period instead of the 55-60 with the 17/50 and my engine running little faster. 17/45 was worse in all as it saved a little gas but my bike could not reach any measure of speed due to not enough HP top out in fifth gear. You people must have one up on me in tricks. Better fuel maybe or have never seen hills like mine on the roads you commute and-or ride with your Hawks. 15/45 is what I run now an it's working best for me. Top end at 55-63 with power enough to pull hills and open her up on the few flats I have.

    • @JerryHawk250
      @JerryHawk250  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was like you when I first got my bike. I was how the hell are they going that fast. lol Once the engine was broke in after about 6-800 miles I did all the mods to the carb, exhaust and sprocket changes (currently running 16/40). After that It made a huge difference in power. A lot of other things come into play. I'm at sea level 9-10'. If your at higher elevations you will loose HP. Valve adjustment is real important too. If the valves are set too tight you will loose compression which = lost HP. Proper jetting for higher altitudes. Have you done a compression test? You may have other issues. If the engine wasn't broke in properly the rings may not have seated properly or valves may not be seated properly. I don't think there is a HP difference between the 2015 and 2016's. Do you still have the stock speedometer? They are known for being inaccurate 5-10 mph. You may be going faster that you think. Just throwing some ideas out there. Do a compression check and see what you have.

  • @TXJasper

    What's your top speed with your gearing 17/40 and do you have plenty of power in 5th gear?
    I purchased a Hawk about 3 weeks ago. I currently have 15/45 and get around 60MPH top speed. Have mod stock carb with 115 main jet, shimmed the needle with four 3mm washers and adjusted valves. Replaced shift lever and cluster and spark plug.

    • @JerryHawk250
      @JerryHawk250  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The fastest I have gotten with the 17/40 was 72 mph and I have gotten 74 mph one time on the 15/40 combo. The 15/40 combo is a good all round setup for on and off road. It still has a good bit of low end power. The 17/40 is good for hwy and can cruise 60-65 all day. It's okay for off road if on flat land. but It will loose a little of low end grunt. The front sprocket is a easy and quick change out if you going off road. I like the 17/40 for hwy.

    • @loganjackson6530
      @loganjackson6530 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks guys! So if I used a 428 -128 link it would still have the necessary slack for it to stretch when I sit on it? Ive read a lot of guys saying that the chain stretches when you put your weight on the bike because of the suspension so to leave a little bit of slack when no weight on the bike.
