Approved by 70s music, I notice that over here we have mini tubers that are sown for seed. Not sure of the process but these were grown under hydroponics. I guess they are new varieties for release. A lot of ours are chipping potatoes so disease free and spot free appearance is important. We don’t want brown spots on our fries do we? With fried, mashed, boiled and baked potatoes the only vegetable available to many Americans, you have your job cut out. thanks for the video.
First I ever seen potatoes cut before planting. Of course I never seen potato farming of the scale that you are running. Only for family use. Maybe 2-3000 lb. Could you please explain why you cut them. Keep rocking 👍
We cut the potatoes because they are not all small potatoes. They should be 1-2 oz and the potato planter has a small cup that picks up the seed to plants it, so the piece needs to be small to fit into the cup better.
Riding with Molly looking at her new shiny hood, what a way to get away from the rat race. Never knew there was much to know about potatoes, I have you on my cool chick list.
Not fun moving equipment through town, my buddy farms mostly solo so he bought a pit bike he could load and ride back as getting back or out to other locations was a challenge Great choice in music!
Hi Molly, I'm classic rock myself, wore out 2 Fleetwood Mac rumors cassette tapes, Ha. That seed cutting is quite a process isn't it. Thanks for Sharing. 😊
Talk about going cruising in your “Hotrod” tractor 🚜, dang that’s a pretty good pull between fields. Potatoes 🥔 require such different ground prep and planting than corn and beans, that it is interesting content. Thanks for another good one 🤟🏻
Wow! That was an incredible tractor ride through your local country side. Absolutely beautiful woodlands, farms and small towns in your area of Maine. It reminds me a lot of southern Michigan. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your farming operation! Very interesting and informative videos. You guys are some of the hardest working people on TH-cam!
The videos are great Molly! It's interesting to see the operations and equipment. Different farming has different equipment. I watch Laura Farms on TH-cam. Her family farms grain in Nebraska. We sort of farmed when I was growing up, and I used to work in the fields, sometimes driving the tractor. My sister married a dairy farmer from Wisconsin. I used to help out there from time to time.
Looks like your farms are almost across the river from each other…need a ferry or bridge to shorten road time! lol …Interesting how the cutting machine works…btw…nice hat!
I knew you were a rocker! 😎🤘 I have to say that the cutting process is relatively simple but really clever. I'm surprised that there is no concern about them getting sunlight. I guess it's not a long period of time. What do I know.. 😁👍
I grew up in 50's/60's so, ya. Classic rock. However, give Joe Bonamassa a listen. I saw that he's going to be traveling with the Stones this summer. On another subject, I've never put lime down (maybe I should) but we always dipped fresh cut tators in sulfur before shoving them into the ground. A side note: I know it's not the primary reason you do these videos nor why we watch them, however.... it sure is nice to see you with your hair down. ;-).
Hi Molly. Great watching your content. U guys should get 1pole for every field and leave it there to make less work for u guys. Would save time and labour?
I thought you would be a rock chick have you listened to Dire Straits ❤ lol you are well adaptable for the job Molly that’s one thing it doesn’t get boring l would enjoy days like that here there 👍🫶
If you think of it, mention to Ray and the others we really appreciate all the wonderful detailed knowledge of the farming that they share. I know it must not be comfortable being on camera, not a natural thing for sure. But I really love hearing all those sage tidits of knowledge. I'm sure others do too. I grew up this way but there is a whole new generation that has no idea where their food comes from, and who grows it. Ray and the others really are the superstars of the videos (you're ok too LOL).
I guess that I am different, I’ve never heard of any of the rock groups that you mentioned, oh well! Have a great day, l have learned a lot about the handling of potatoes, thanks.
Hey Molly. Getting caught up and need to watch the May 2nd video next. Was busy on my birthday. I enjoyed the dash cam Tractor video. You were nice to let cars pass. I see a lot went around you anyway. If they only knew it was you. Good music choices also. You are fun to watch and learn. I like th set up and applying the fungicide now before you plant them.
I grew up in the north east and there was a lot of potato farms around. I enjoyed the same type of music you do 60s and 70s with the greatest.. I’ll bet you would’ve been a good Woodstock person. thanks from South Carolina
Another great post, learning so much about how much work it is to bring the food we eat to market. Your video quality is first class, love watching all of the content you let us see.
That equipment handels a shit load of spuds !! All we used was roughly a 3'×5' metal table with an apron type chain with different size cups( small medium or large) & every potato was laid on by hand. Every time a cup was at a certain location a knife bar which would cut 2,3 or four pieces would slice down in the cup. Yes it was as slow as molasses in January but got the job done !🥔🥔🥔 Hope ya have a great season.
Wow that's a lot of road travel thru towns and streets. Road travel is a fact of life, we pulled the hay/corn wagons on the roads sometimes behind pickups but mostly tractors. Very different in the 70s and 80s, people passed a little slower, different times :) Music was a fender mounted Tractor Radio usually an AM radio. I being the smart one :) put an FM converter in one about 1982 and boy that was a hit! Good Country and Rock in those days too. My whole 80s HS soundtrack is now an "oldies" station LOL.
Glad to see you are watching Tay Farms! That is one hard working girl and she is not afraid to get dirty, generally she does get (very) dirty. Maybe you could do a Maine farm collaboration with her. Two of the hardest working farmers in the state. Thanks for the insights on potato farming, this is all new stuff to me.
What YOU need, Molly, is for somebody to install a bridge across the river closer to your fields! LOL. Cool work with the camera showing the seed cutting segment. Cheers!
Great driving skills and you did not even snag one mailbox or recycling bin. In Europe tractors and combines have to be licensed and everything has to fit in one lane. I grew up on 4 acres of land and hand planted, hilled and harvested 6) 100 foot rows of potatoes so I have a feel for them and what your job is like. That is another great video, thank you for showing the potato cutting machine and explaining a bit of that, I remember taking that corner in Lewiston with a trailer full of telephone poles quite often and it was always a wicked hard right hand turn to make
Thank you Molly,Shane and crew👍,brilliant as always,very informative😃,that's a great set-up you've got going for the seed potatoes,excellent work,thank you 🚜 😊 UK 🇬🇧
I have been waiting for this video. I grew up on an Illinois family farm where we usualy planted 50 to 70 pounds of one varity hand cut and planred. I wantd to see a comercial seed cutter. Thanks
Yes we have the same play list I’ve been a rock drummer since the 70’s been in 3 rock bands and one country band and couldn’t imagine doing the seeding by hand that’s a lot anyhow later girl.❤️😎🇺🇸
Morning Molly !! Very interesting video today I had a few questions about you answered them already in the video, great job.. It seems everyone works together nicely which is a big credit to Bell Farms.,, Enjoy the weekend and stay safe… 😊
I worked on a spud farm probably 45 years ago thing were different back then I remember the days before we had a harvester they dug them up young kids sorted out the rocks put them in a basket older kids put them on a wagon started doing that about 6 years old old enough to walk old enough to work what I was told loved it ?

Looks as though you’ve got a great group of people working with and for you. Again thanks so much for sharing I look forward to your videos.
Hi Molly. You couldn’t come over to the UK and show the tractor drivers over here some of you manners. Noticed you pulled over to allow vehicles to pass. Fascinating video. Good morning! Really enjoy watching your videos! I spent several years here in Montana working as a seed potato inspector for the MT Department of Agriculture. I would guess you guys have a similar program where every load of seed is inspected for size, condition and disease as they come out of storage at the seed farm shipping point and loaded on the truck. Most of Montana’s potato production is for seed with most going to Washington state and Idaho. Working in the potato program here was quite a rewarding experience and is astounding the amount research and safeguards they are in place to ensure the potatoes are healthy and the farmers get the best quality possible. Finally getting to see the cutting process was great can’t wait till you get them in the ground! You are blessed and looks like you guys are doing a great job farming! 👍
Yes we do have a similar program. It is very important to get clean healthy seed. Thank you very much for sharing this comment! And thank you for watching our videos. Farming and working in agricultural is such a rewarding thing. 😊💚🥔
I see you had the drone out nice. I had one afternoon of stone picking with the skid steer. Like most what would we be without our skid steer's. Flooded out here with your ducks, gooses and frog eatters at Duck Bay.
Molly seems like such a long way to drive the tractor between fields. Are those special potatoes that you cut for seeds? Dogs are always great. There so calm around all that activity.
There's a lot of work to be done just getting the potato ground ready an the equipment before the potato's even get cut for seed to even get in the ground. Thanks for all you an Shane an crew do behind the videos that you do lots of great work thanks so much.
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW YEA! It's time to get fa'ming again! All up here in Lewiston! Maine has such sunny cool days in spring. The buds are sprouting and leaves are coming :D This is such a cool video of the route and the local geography and your potato seed processing. Good music too! That open shed you guys made this winter fits right in on the property too and is lookin pretty useful.
Thank you so much! I’m really glad you liked the video. The building is getting used for sure. We were just taking about how we probably won’t finish the walls until next winter hahaha
My help was always losing the knives . I solved that by making a bracket with a clamp attached to the sides . No more lost knives and you could use both hands to cut big pieces . Funny the similarities to the cutter and duster . My cutter was a Betterbuilt , they were built in Orem Utah . I am pretty sure those boys in Utah probably copied your model . No real secrets in the world in the potato business . Good video as always .
Yeah Dan the mounted knife sounds like a good idea! And as far as the copy of equipment. You’re right, there’s no real secrets with Agriculture machines. Thank you very much for watching ❤️talk to you later!
Great video molly! So awsum you listen to classic rock! So ya try backing the skid steer up on the trailer instead..much safer I think? Ya cut those bigger pieces..c I told you bout the size..keep up the good work
Hahah I guess not a lot of 80’s I kinda skip the 80 and jump into late 90’s. I though the music for the seed cutting was funky and fun to watch the potatoes dance around hahah
Sooo... When do we get to see long distance potato shooting on the other channel?🤔🤷🤣 The Battleship couples competition was pretty cool... The way that Miranda was shooting, it definitely made it difficult for you and Shane to win... You guys were right there though...👍👍
Molly...I was thinking that on Saturday that you would wear your hair like Princess Leia...for May 4th. You don't need a GPS for potato planting...TRUST THE FORCE! 😊
Actually I take that back, I hit a piece of wood the other day like a whole tree cut down for firewood. It was on the side of the field and I had to use my new chainsaw to cut the disc loose
This is the video I was waiting for. Thanks, Molly & Ray. Yesterday, I had the privilege of touring the East Machias location where the 'Coast of Maine' produces all the Mulch, compost, and other growing soils. My son in law is the manager of that operation, and it's fascinating how that all works. Farming, and all that goes into it, is also fascinating to me. Some of the smartest people in the world are producing our food, not sitting in DC. 😊
Good morning. Thank you. Be well. After viewing: Thank you for the share of your music faves (I just introduced a friend to "kings of leon" last week). It was "worth the wait" to catch this seed cutting in-practucum, especially with "Uncle Ray's" chill vibes and sage insight. A fan from coastal central Cali who stumbled into this GRACE of a cherished GEM of a YT channel and full-family farmin' enterprise insight when the Androscoggin River spilled o'er it's banks and shores into your family fields and across your local roadways. Thank you, again. Y'all're quiet cherished graces unto this daft Cali-funky life. May the miles in your shared smiles and long in your soulful song(s) ever shimmer and warmly glow onward.
Hello Molly im 64 i grew up listening to the music you like. You guys do keep busy. Your so pleasant to watch, you always have a smile. I hope your channel grows bigger all the time.
Congrats on navigating thru the town and the traffic. I wonder if clearing some more trees at the other farm would help with increased land to farm closer to home? Maybe sell the wood for firewood. Good luck.
Once again, this shows how many tons of potatoes you raise and work with each year. It also shows how much work that has to be done to put them out the door.
What no Bluegrass music! Just kidding I grew up on 60/ 70 Southern rock.Neat machine my grandaddy use grow about a 1/2 acre of potatoes for the family ,We had to cut the potatoes so there was a eye on each piece, and we plant by hand that made a tiring day.
You have a good ethic about driving your tractor and equipment on the road, like I said before you know what you are doing, you are not just a pretty face. Keep up the good work.
Approved by 70s music, I notice that over here we have mini tubers that are sown for seed. Not sure of the process but these were grown under hydroponics. I guess they are new varieties for release. Hahah thanks!
I see Cavendish is spread down in the States too, they're pretty big here on PEI canada, the potato farm i worked at sold most of our crop to them.
Not fun moving equipment through town, my buddy farms mostly solo so he bought a pit bike he could load and ride back as getting back or out to other locations was a challenge
Great choice in music!
Yes Shane does that too from some of the field by our house. Thanks for watching.

Yes we try and do the same!
Looks like your farms are almost across the river from each other…need a ferry or bridge to shorten road time! lol …Interesting how the cutting machine works…btw…nice hat!
They are pretty much across the river! Yes a ferry would be awesome!

Yes this is true, but this one’s just works so well. It’s been used for so long that it is shaped just right now.
Potatoes are really cute the way they dance around on the conveyor. With the right music I bet a funny dancing vid might be enjoyed by most.

They really are! I’m just learning, I will try and get them on the camera as much as possible! Ray does pretty good.
Gotta love moving equipment that far. Farthest my father moved equipment was 15 miles 1 way but 24 between a couple locations.
Yeah, it’s just part of the job. :) we have another field that is even further away.

Great video Molly enjoy watching you and that awesome John Deere tractor.
Man, the seed cutting was mesmerizing, fun to watch! No 80's rock on your list? Hope you guys have a great weekend! 🍁
Hahah I guess not a lot of 80’s I kinda skip the 80 and jump into late 90’s. I though the music for the seed cutting was funky and fun to watch the potatoes dance around hahah
@@BellsFarming haha…it was a good choice, it worked well!
You need to check out a band called Kings X....80s 90s currently still rockin it!!
Thank you I will!
Thanks for the drone footage at the end. Appreciate that perspective.
Sooo... When do we get to see long distance potato shooting on the other channel?🤔🤷🤣
The Battleship couples competition was pretty cool...
The way that Miranda was shooting, it definitely made it difficult for you and Shane to win... You guys were right there though...👍👍
Hahah I think you’re right. We are going to that to set up a potato target!
AWSOME work Great to see the progress in potatoe farming. Your music is great. Keep up the videos
Thanks chucky! :)
GREAT MUSIC LIST!!!
Good morning great to see planting prep is still moving forward to be almost ready for planting the potatoes
Holy hell Molly. You’re killing it with the uploads.
So much going on!
you guys just get better and better great stuff
Thank you!
Im 73 and listen to 60 and 70 music but lso some from 90 and early 2000. Even some more from different eras. Just like music that feels good.
I agree!
Thank you Molly and Shane 🙂 Wishing you a wonderful harvest, and blessings 🙏🏻God Bless 🙏🏻 Appreciate you my friends 🫶🏻
Thank you very much! 💚🚜
Thanks so much for the hug (14:45). I feel much more appreciated now. 🤪❤
Hahaha I thought that everyone would like that hug!🤗 hahah
Molly...I was thinking that on Saturday that you would wear your hair like Princess Leia...for May 4th.
You don't need a GPS for potato planting...TRUST THE FORCE! 😊
Hahah oh Ken I will try that hairstyle out soon! Thanks for making me laugh
I sure do miss getting garbage cans with a disk
Hahah I haven’t hit anything quite yet! 🤞🏻
I couldn’t agree with you more! That place sounds really interesting to me too! Very cool!
Good morning.
Thank you.
Be well.

Thank you for the share of your music faves (I just introduced a friend to "kings of leon" last week).
Thank you!
I really love these videos, thank you Molly
Thank you Tim!
The start of the season, nice
Wow that looked like a little bit of a drive, at least the traffic wasn’t too bad
It’s not too bad. You have to time it right though! No driving when school busses are out!
Hello Molly im 64 i grew up listening to the music you like. You guys do keep busy. Your so pleasant to watch, you always have a smile. I hope your channel grows bigger all the time.
Thank you very much! Life is good and people should be positive!
Great video..thanks Molly! 🐾🚜🥔
Yes I bet!
You have a good ethic about driving your tractor and equipment on the road, like I said before you know what you are doing, you are not just a pretty face.
Keep up the good work.
