As a retired sales rep for US Foods, I sold a LOT of potatoes in my career...but never knew the extent of the whole process and what went into making a good looking product happen! Nice documenting! 👍 thx!
My Uncle worked for US Foods. Back then it was Sexton (Rykoff/Sexton) and then there was another merger with JP Foods I believe and then US Foods ... I always thought he switched companies, as I was not aware of all the mergers and stuff. They treated him very well and he did very well with the company. I thought Sysco was going to buy US Foods, whatever happened to that... Think around 2010? I remember my Uncle talking about it, but as far as I know they are still separate.
Molly, you are an absolute joy! It is so refreshing to see people who thoroughly love their work. Hope you have a great season and huge harvest. God bless.
Not much has changed on planting day, when we were planting corn in 1960 in north central Ohio or you guys are planting potatoes in 2024. It’s always a crazy time of year, wouldn’t trade it for nothing…. Thx for the video..
Thank you Molly for the great video! You are teaching me a lot about potato farming especially since I knew absolutely nothing about it. By the way I love your laugh and smile! Larry
Thank you so very much for sharing this video Molly. Last month I turned 70 years young and I have made it my goal to learn something new every day and you’re helping me with that by sharing your videos
I can say the same thing. Great idea. I grew up on a farm in Wisconsin. We grow potatoes here where the soil is suited for them. I deer hunted near a potato field but didn't know that much about them.

Thankyou for all the educational videos. I find the informative and educational, Glad to see you plant potatoes from my home state WA. Fingers cross they do well and not let you down on the opposite coast. Cheers!
I have watched how your winter turned out and I'm excited to see spring and summer unfold. We are getting rains every other day down here in rice country. Texas just keeps forwarding weather north and eastward.
Thanks Molly for showing us how you plant potatoes. Very interesting. Never realized all the work that is involved growing potatoes. It looks like its more hands on than other types of farming.
Those test plots are always time consuming no matter what crop you are planting. I hope you get some good data from the test. Another interesting video, keep it going Molly.!!
Wow, this was a pretty in-depth process to video getting right down to the nuts and bolts of all things potato and of course, the smiling potato queen giving expert narration. This video was pretty interesting. 🎉
Some Dutch Creams for the table? Great to see the planter in action. Working hard. Trial work is always rewarding. Not always a good idea to go into confined spaces without respiration, too much CO2 and methane from decomposing stuff. Thanks for the video, you are legends.
Thank you so much for watching! We have a great time working together. Shane actually did not breathe while he was in the tank. He held his breath and came up for air while he was cleaning in the tank thank you :)
Thank you molly,Shane and crew👍you had me laughing when you really wanted to go in that tank 🤣 excellent video and lovely weather to🌞,all the best from the UK 🇬🇧 👍
Hi Molly. Thanks for the birthday wishes. It was a great weekend. You are probably the happiest worker I know who brings us along on your adventures. Maybe you will go in the tank after all on this to be continued.
Busy days planting and field prep is a sure sign that we made it through another year! Another great video Molly ! You never disappoint with your videos.
Love You Guys, even though y’all work 7 days a week y’all still have fun together!!!!!! I only wish that the food distributors for the Southeast would add Maine potatoes to their list, we only get Idaho spuds in this area!
I'm continuing to learn more and about potato farming! I live in Washington state and I noticed you mentioned that you got some potato variety from here and I hope they turned out okay!
"Nature always wants to grow" my dad would say. Sprouting in the box, they just want to get going lol. When you are saying "flags" I'm picturing little Dutch red-white-blue flags al thru the field lol. curious the results though, be interesting to see how those new varieties flourish (or not).
I'm new to your channel been watching about a week or so. Great content and really interesting to see the whole potato planting process. I'm a farmer from West Wales, South Pembrokeshire not far from me is famous for its delicious early new potatoes, I just grow a few in the garden. I'm looking forward to the rest of the year and seeing the potatoes grow and be harvested.
Smart lady. I always told my salesmen " If you don't know the answer , tell them that, but that you will get back to them with the right answer" THEN DO It... they will be more impressed with you as a person of strong character!
for some reason Shane coming out of the tank reminded me of high school health class video the miracle of birth i keep rewinding and laughing until i cry!!
My grandpa was a small time farmer, and he raised potatoes. I don’t remember how many acres but with about 10-12 people we picked it by hand and put them in his root cellar. He would cut the eyes off potatoes and use them for seed. Are you just cutting your seed potatoes in half just to expose some of the insides? Interesting show, learned a bunch.
Great content, cool to see the similarities and differences from potato farming in Idaho. For the sake of safety, please learn about entering confined spaces safely.
Organic means- food grown and processed using no synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. We are a conventional Farm. We do not do any organic farming currently.
Your videos are extremely good nothing boring about them. I wasn’t aware that Maine was a potato growing state. I just assumed Idaho was where all the potatoes were grown. The fact that you’ll all do corn is good to. I assuming that there’s a lot of planning that goes into your planting season so that the corn and potato harvest aren’t at the same time. You could have knocked me over with a feather when I saw you sporting a Nutrien hat. Didn’t have a clue they had any facilities in Maine. I know they are global corporation with potash mines anywhere there is potash to be found. This raises my curiosity about what fertilizers you’ll use and herbicides and I’m assuming fungicides also. I was assuming by the tanks on the potatoe planter that you’ll use and in row fertilizer when planting the potatoes.
We use many different fertilizers we use in potatoes. Potato seed gets a fungicide to help the pieces from getting in the furrow. This is applied when the seed is cut. It’s the red stuff on the potatoes. Then we use a pop up fertilizer and liquid nitrogen at planting. We also use dry fertilizer after things start growing. And yes we use potash too!
And a good Sunday to you Molly… The poptatos you cut up,do they have eyes on them too??? You remind me of my wife see like a Tasmanian devil you both are always in tenth gear…. Enjoying the video.. Great curly hair 😊
Those jeans look great on you! WOW!!
Everything she wears looks great on her!
Even a potato sack 😅😅😅
Stop being a SIMP.

It is to make them smaller and more uniform inside. The inside doesn’t matter. But the smaller size to fit into the planter cup does
Never a dull moment!
Beautiful
Dutch patatoes are great! I wonder which one you have, “Eigenheimer, Doré, Bintje…. Love from the Netherlands, Dennis.
Hey Dennis! Thanks for:)

your hair looks fine the way it is. you are a getter done person , don't worry about your hair, its fine
Hahah thanks!
I still enjoy watching the process. Can you explain the difference between these potatoes and organic ones?
Organic means- food grown and processed using no synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. We are a conventional Farm. We do not do any organic farming currently.
Ok. Just asking. Ty for answering Molly

Tank is totally worth fixing. A good welder can have in shape in no time.
Yes Derick did a great job, I will show in an upcoming video :)
Never knew that potato planting was so involved.
Innuendos we’re coming one after the other!🤪
Hahaha I know! It wasn’t intentional, but funny as hell!
Very interesting Molly. Are those seed potatoes just small potatoes of there variety. Didn’t know any of that, thank you fpr the info.
Want to see more of how potato planter works. I have never seen one in my life.
Hope this works out, sometimes taking a chance is big payoffs.
