  • In this video, I go through the unboxing of the mount and setting it up. You'll find an overview of its assembly and features, as well as my overall honest impressions of the Celestron CGX.

I’ve been using ASPA with my CGEM-DX for 9 years. Usually 2 or three iterations are enough to put me within 2 arcminutes of the pole in azimuth and altitude. Nice mount! I’d consider this mount as a replacement for my current one.

I did this previously with my AVX. ASPA always worked great. Took a couple of iterations to get it tight, but it was awesome.

Thanks for showing off the CGX setup. This generation of Celestron mounts is really nice (CGX, CGX-L), assuming you get a good one (there are evidently a few lemons out there). I wish the 3 mount bolts were tool-less. Maybe somebody will come out with something analogous to Bob's Knobs for the mount bolts.

Great video - thanks for making it! I just ordered one, though the polar scope has come down in price considerably. I figured I'd get it in case I didn't want to pull out Polemaster and I didn't feel like doing the ASPA dance.

With All Star Polar Align, there no need for it. And when I'm imaging, I use the polar align tool in SharpCap, which is much like the Polemaster.

One big issue? Why only 2 aux ports, when thr Evo series has 4. 2 will run out quickly

    Hi
Have you used the tripod with extended legs yet? If I extend the legs on my cgx then tighten levers, they just retract under any small load.

I don't extend them much, but they seem to lock in place fine.

It's been a while and over gotten to use it more since. One of my legs does that. Just won't lock down at all.

We are a teacher of Astronomy lessons in a remote village in Banten Indonesia. We really dream of owning a Celestron C11-A Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope, for the sake of practicing the results of the theory in the school where we teach lessons to our students, but it's all wishful thinking and dreaming because of our inability to buy the telescope.

Your opinion on the mount after 1 months use? ;)

As luck would have it, there's been little other than cloud and rain here since I got the mount.
That said, I've had 2 clear nights so far, and I have to say that so far I'm quite pleased with it. Although that said, I've only used it with my ED80 so far and nothing bigger, so I haven't really had a chance to really test its capabilities. But I have to say, I'm quite pleased with the results I've gotten so far. Tracking and guiding have been good.
Check out my Flickr page @ www.flickr.com/photos/crunchmeister/
The images of M42, M81 & M82 and M8 & M20 at the top of my profile were all shot using the CGX. M42 is a bit fuzzy due to my focus being just a hair off and 1/5 seeing, so that's no fault of the mount.
Now the real test will be how well it handles a larger scope with lots of gear on it. Next time I go out I plan to use my 8" SCT.

Mounts get louder than the CGX, trust me.

It's loud for sure especially when you consider it's belt driven. I've heard louder mounts though.
