No mathematician ever worries about Gödel's theorem either (in my experience). It puts no limits on actual results, just the theoretical extent of ALL results.

He’s extremely open-minded while still holding strong, evidence-based views. That’s an exceedingly rare trait in any human
I lost my best friend in december 2021. We were good friends for about 35 years. That was rough. I still keep in touch with his family. The only advice I can give is, don't let it shut you down. You'll have to go through the grieving process, but don't let it consume your life.
On the question about laughter, it does seem weird that the thing besides humor that causes laughter, is discovery.

It's actually totally legal to shout fire in a crowded theater. Brandenburg v. Ohio restricted bans on free speech to "that which would be directed to and likely to incite imminent lawless action "
I would think that would still qualify because your actions are still likely to cause injury and or death.

Sir: just one question: Neuroscientists find there are bundle of neurons that have aromatic rings with many pi electrons. They suspect these pi electrons may be the source for our conscience . Could you speculate , when we die, what happen to those pi electrons or information they carry?
Finding the correlates of qualia would give valuable hints as to what role they might play in physics but may or may not be a sufficient explanation in itself, depending on what you might regard as sufficient. It would be analog to the Schroedinger wave function, you could find uses for technology and make predictions, and still be oblivious to its underlying physics. However it would enable us to hypothesize beings capable of feeling&experiencing wherever else these correlates appear.
You say in order to explain qualia you either have to change the known laws of physics or have sonething additional in your ontology which can't have any effect of its own. Changing the current laws would be absurd but I claim there can be a notion of qualia influencing our behaviour and therefore translating into physical forces by friction with our brains or whatever. They might be new unknown physical forces of their own which doesn't have to be fundamentally emergent, or they might be reducable to known forces. For all we know, the range of plausible explanations is vast. Contemporary Naturalists who are betting the Hard Problem would kind of evaporate in emergence should be taken very seriously, but also might as well be subject to their own expertise fallacies.
This comes down to probabalistic vs deterministic nature of reality which we don't know enough about, but I would say that our minds and experiences are seemingly deterministic, but what causes a neuron to fire? A buildup of sodium ions , and at that scale the probabilistic nature of atoms might take hold. So it's unknown whether the universe is probabalistic or deterministic and in the words of one of my favorite robots: "need more input".
If the premise of the “rat learning” question is valid and if you accept that we are likely living in a universal simulation, then it follows that code and state might get reused for lower order systems/simulations for the purpose of efficiency and reduced complexity. It might also have implications for the fidelity of the simulation we’re in as a reflection of how many layers of nested simulation there are above our reality.

Looks like we abhor equilibrium & have a drive for continuous change, as a species. That’s an unsustainable strategy. Keep in mind that we haven’t been around very long & we inhabit many ecosystems using different strategies. It seems most likely certain strategies persist & are selected.

Submit an article to a journal to be peer reviewed. If you can make a case, it might get published. The harder part is to get other labs to do experiments to verify your hypothesis. Usually you need your own lab to build the influence.
I agree that it's not a good idea to mix God with science in the sense that u don't want to end a scientific paper with a "the particles collide and produce X cuz of God" but u can certainly say that God is behind whatever mechanism you're explaining. But, it wouldn't have an identity built on it's conscious experience. The 'self' that is invented, thinks that it IS consciousness. It is not. The very idea of a "zombie" is yet another example of how often we jump past the issue of an identity. I can't be the only one who is noticing this tendency to confuse consciousness with the identity of the self. They are two separate things. A cat is conscious. It's aware of it's position and will protect itself, etc... but I'm not convinced that it creates a "me" or "I" the way that humans do. Maybe the confusion is a result of the process where the human will create an identity and then believe that it's the identity that's conscious. There's a lot more about the concept of the self that is overlooked. When you experience your first few heartbeats for example, there is no "you" doing the experiencing, yet. Trying LSD once is like trying the trumpet once. Of course you can write down theoretical equations and figure out physics problems while on it. It takes some time to get used to thinking "without the filters" so to say. Once you've learned how to use the instrument, you don't need to keep taking it, but it can help to learn.
I like the idea that possibly the Big Bang was no big deal; that the same thing has happened so many times that "Another Big Bang is nothing unusual" So the point is not how large such an occurrence is, but that it is about as probable as many common and smaller events people would ignore because they are common. There is no point to say exactly what Sean Carroll did; if he says something I would not be better at making that point. Still it is an interesting possibility; if someone like Dr Who or someone else who can travel between Universes easily? Such a person would probably consider Big Bangs as some huge number; X? Big Bangs per ? volume of the 11 Dimensional Brane that contains '3D( + time) Universes' I make no claim to know of any other Universes or that they exist as a fact, still depending on how you define the word 'Universe' it seems probable to me. At the minimum is Level 1 Multiverse; if the singular Universe is large enough...infinite, then even our Observable Universe would repeat infinite times. That is technically only one Universe with the same laws of physics for it, but if there are infinite copies of today's Earth AND of today's entire Milky Way? If the copies are exact or only one part per million trillion different...they count as different Universes at least philosophically. To the point of free speech that you made about "Hitler didn't go far enough" no doubt there is an inherent disgust to that type of thought but you can't see why it could be dangerous to censor even that distasteful of a thought in the realm of free speech and rather let it die in the court of public opinion? Because again you run up against who should be the arbiter of truth even when the topic is horrible it could be abused in the opposite direction and again lead to some other type of horrible distasteful outcome even if the hope is to prevent something horrible. In short, the thing you do to prevent something is the cause of it happening.
In one sense, prioritizing a short-term future of joy is somewhat pretentious. I don't mean to say this in an insulting tone... I'm a fan of your podcast and I think your rationality is impeccable so don't take it as an attack. It's just if we don't know the upper and lower bounds of reality (such as, knowing the origin of the universe or knowing what comes after heat death, and philosophical problems of what terms can even possibly describe ideas like after time or before time) then we have to assume that avoiding suffering and then going extinct prevents us from potentially discovering upper and lower bounds upon which life or consciousness can be migrated to. Albeit, I entirely agree that maximizing life for as long as possible and generating the longest lasting hell is much, much worse than pretentious, it's excessively unjust. If we could end heat death, we should, but if we cannot then the best approximation of that task is the one which balances the best mix of freedoms to choose purposes and tasks (regardless of pleasure or pain) with the best longevity such that we can discover the upper and lower bounds of reality enough to explain the most fruitful possible world available to this universe. In this sense, longtermism has merit over short term utilitarianism. The latter assumes too much about what thresholds exist and what our limits are.
For all we know, you can push back the heat-death of the universe or even escape it but we just don't know how because we are ignorant. To be fair I think this is highly unlikely. But what I'm not convinced about is that nothing existed before the big bang, that the end of the universe is a permanent end or that nothing exists other than the universe and therefore the limits of intelligent life should be found on earth and soon. We should be willing to explore reality and the universe until such a time that we can be certain about these things such that the range of time in which living experiences can be pegged within acceptable and reasonable boundaries is known. If we don't do any better than this we're short-changing ourselves out of the possibilities of existence on the gamble that what we have, what we know and what we can experience now until that short-term extinction is sufficient for us. We don't know it is.
