Anyway i have an idea , give this idea to them.
Most of the cost is due to mount. And it has almost no amplification unless u put zoom camera or something on it
But why not use Refractor design but with a a mirror inside
Basically one side is your light reciever. but it can be magnifed in Horizontal tube that can be extended to 1 meter total half meter from each side.
Key is center of gravity.. you move one side for amplification and other side controlled by motor. I mean opposte side is micro adjustment to get center of gravity at middle. So there will be ring motor at center and that can move and rotate 180 degree
At present design probably do that way but not sure it can handle 8" Mirror. it move only two axis x ( 360 degree) , Y 180 degree. It can cover all sky.
The difference is there will be addional element that could be costly. That is a super high quality mirror recieves light and change direction like binocular at 45 degree
Now how much quality go down ? we dont know. Depends on mirror or the prism to find which does better.
This reduces cost of Mount because this need small motor. Even existing one can rotate bigger tube because it will have zero load at center to rotate as each side weight is adjusted to perfect with another motor adjusting length of tube one side. (fine tune), coarse tune is add some plastic weights or some weight rings at end.
I mean everything pre assembled but if there is attachment added one side and other side should have equal weight rings
Telescope industry can flourish. Easy to transport means you can go star parties or go anywhere in world with telescope you can carry.
it should have remote wifi to TV so u control everything from inside home.
Good software can separate the telescope but who ever make it can license the idea.
8" and 12" will be easy.
We could even make 3D telescope.

Hey Cuiv. Great review man! Regarding the speaker and microphone, Dwarf Lab has told me that it's designed for voice control down the road, and they've recently put together an interface that's aiming to enable it through a firmware upgrade in the future. This means we'll be able to talk to the DWARF 3, and it will do what we ask. However, they don't have a specific date for when this feature will be available.

Hi Cuiv! This is Claire from DwarfLab! A few things I would like to tell you on behalf of the dev team: 1. The scope can be rotated by your hands freely(seeing you carefully move it back before powering off, so adorable)2. The limit-hitting failure notice must be added up in the next update, so confused for beginners! 3. The scope actually comes with some sets of darks out of the factory, if you have hit the go take darks button, you will see a list of your available darks saved! Save your laziness lol! And lastly, love your video100000%! Thanks for sharing it with everyone!

It might be an interesting option to have at my cottage observatory (Bortle 3/2) as a secondary, while my main scope is imaging. I’ll be curious to see how well it performs in skies a bit darker than Tokyo (that is, pretty much everywhere! 😂

Hi Claire, from my experience with the Dwarf2 there are lots of simple workflow improvement tweaks you could add that have been available on entry level Alt-Az goto scopes for decades. I will send you a list.
The #1 confusing issue for beginners and experts alike is that there is no shooting settings preset as it is always reset back to 1s, gain 80 and IR pass for calibration, gotos, focusing and end stacking session. The software should restore the values in the preset after each of these options and they should be displayed at the top of the screen along with the current local/UT time.
The number of times I've had to delete a session and reshoot because I forgot to set IR cut for capturing stars instead of DSO's ...
Please have your team consider a partner for;
A possible tele converter , and close-up lens?

Fantastic unboxing and first light report! Thank you! I pre-ordered this in late May, wanting a second smart telescope to go alongside my Seestar, especially with a wider FOV and even more portability. D3 looks like it would also be perfect on its own for nights when I don’t have a lot of time. Love that it has an EQ mode and dithering. Smart telescopes really open up the sky for those of us living under heavy light pollution, and D3 looks like the next great smart telescope!

For now I've done in Eq mode 30s, it's been working great until the clouds rolled in, I'll do a video soon!
I love the fact that the size and form factor hasn’t changed much. Not having a garden or even a balcony to image from, I appreciate being able to carry it easily to the nearest park or field. I can’t wait to take it camping 🙂

Learning Japanese for the past 3 months and actually kinda understood what you said 😀. I have not much interest in these scopes but am glad its getting more and more people into the hobby. At our group meetups theres now 3 or 4 smart scopes floating around and our members showing the public all sorts of cool stuff. Now with my new am5n, im as portable as i need to be (dropping my previous 150lb mount).
Have fun learning Japanese! And yes smart scopes help introduce people to the hobby, which is always good!

Dithering can also provide better colour information by using different parts of the bayer pattern.

Waiting on my preorder to arrive in the next few weeks. Upgrading from the 2. Absolutely the 2 was my go to, quick and easy transportable choice. The 3 looks to be a good upgrade and will be my new go to quick grab and go kit.
For reference my semi-portable rig is an Askar71f, Star Adventurer GTI with Touptek Canera and ZWO EAF and guider. Using a quiet4c with Stellarmate OS to control.

Nice review of initial experiences, a very impressive device ! Looking forward to hearing more. Amazing how many capable portable scopes have been released in the last few years. Interesting that camera features included. I see such devices as helping more people get some hands-on experience with astronomy. I wonder if more consumer-level features are/wiil be available (time-lapse, meteors, aurora, ISS snapshot, SpaceX launch boosters...).
Ola la that was a very cool video, I have for decades - yes I am the super astro amateur that never took off to the skies ,but never say never - and this review of a smart telescope kept me captivated for once and with a balcony quite similar towards dark northern forest i really felt this relevant to me. I'd been totally sold on a Seestar until this came along. I definitely value the smaller size/weight of the Dwarf products as I'll often be carrying them on foot, but it was clearly a better product than the Dwarf II with respect to image quality. Now that the Dwarf III seems to at least match the Seestar in that respect, I'm very much torn. Can't wait for a direct head-to-head matchup!
For now I've been testing the Eq mode and it's amazing! Three point polar alignment built in, together with 60s exposures and the internal dual band filter...
I would like to see it in use from no pollution places

Wow they have really polished this new Dwarf! The software is so mature now. Now we just need a maybe "pro" version with a IMX676 which has the same pixel size but 12MP and very low dark current. Incredible, I need to study up on the photography , astro photography, the stacking process everything bone by a computer. Thats great but I would really like to be good at doing it the old fashion way then I will appreciate this amazing stuff. I would want the 4000 dollar smart scope . One year from now it will be 100 bucks.

Wow I'm very impressed with this one. As an astrophotographer who sometimes does live stacking streams, this looks like a great way to do that without having to get out my whole rig or while letting my main rig click away on some faint fuzzy.

Thanks for the video as always, Cuiv. I received notice on Friday that my Dwarf 3 is shipping right away, so I hope to have it in a week or two. I have enjoyed the Dwarf 2, as well as my Seestar S50, since the first of 2024, and I look forward to adding this new scope to my arsenal. Quick question... the D3 is supposed to have Mosaic mode. Have you seen any sign of it in the software?
Not my sort of thing, really but I do think these are great pieces of kit for the money and have plenty of uses. I can understand why these smart scopes are so popular with people getting into the hobby or even some experienced astro photographers as well, I don't know why some people seem dead against smart scopes, most people ar using fulIy automated rigs for imaging these days anyway, I think they are responsible for getting more people interested in astronomy and astrophotography and that can't be a bad thing. Anyway, enjoy your holiday Cuiv, I hope you get better weather that I'm currently experiencing in my part of the UK ( another forcasted clear night isn't)

Nice progress for these small, self contained image factories! Pretty soon it will be like a soccer ball that you just kick out the door in any weather and it will set itself up, rocket up into orbit and go to work imaging everything with a 3 meter fold out f1 apo objective and your choice of sensors...

Sure that's a great scope that hopefully I will order sooner or later but living in Europe I can forget that great price.
For traveling I have dragged my seastar s50 on flights without issue including to Japan, where I shot on Enoshima. Fits comfortably right under the seats without issue or in a backpack. And the case is really protective.
Very nice! The Seestar is definitely good for travel, but I'll also need to bring my paragliding equipment and that takes a lot of space :)

It's a tough one! Plus there is a new version of the Seestar coming out soon apparently! The Dwarf III has a larger field of view and less resolution, but can be used in equatorial mode. But let's wait until we get new information on the new Seestar!

The Dwarf has been described as not being a telescope but rather a motorized camera with zoom lense. It appears to work rather well for such a small aperture.
I keep wondering why people make this distinction? A lens is a telescope and vice versa :)
It's a motorized camera with prime lens, it's a motorized tiny telescope, potato potahto! :)

Thanks again for another great review video, I actually ordered mine just before seeing your review on it. I'm excited for EQ mode, I'll be impressed if 60s exposures actually work out without guiding. How much control over gain settings does it have? I've seen a couple of discussions about it being set to something other than the HCG gain point.
You can set the gain freely, but I don't know where it goes to HCG! I've tested 30s exposures in EQ mode for now, and they were well tracked!
@@CuivTheLazyGeekhow many frames were lost with 30s exposures from start trails? I've heard dithering will be enabled by default as well, so hopefully that combats walking noise well.

I've never managed milky way photography from here, even with DSLR and lens, so I'll probably test it from a dark area!

The best you can do, is to test it in the best possibile scenario, to reveal it's true potential.

Is dew an issue at your location? Without active dew control where I live, observing sessions are measured in minutes. I know the Dwarf 3 has a 'CPU mode' that can be activated in the app, which increases the internal temperature, but I'm wondering if it is effective in controlling dew.

Small pixel camera seems like star trailing is going to me more of an issue with times over 5 seconds. Looking forward to more videos about this version. :)
I was actually impressed in equatorial mode, 30s exposures were fine - without wind the tracking is very decent in another AltAz or EQ mode :)
I'm very interested in your further experiences with this little smart telescope; eq mode and various subjects you point this toward. I have a Seestar S50 I like very much, but would appreciate a wider field of view in a small travel friendly smart telescope to accompany the Seestar. I would love to get one of these before the end of the year.
Would be nice to see a full session of one evening , maybe doing even 50image stacks of few different stars with the Dwarf3. Maybe moon, Jupiter , rings of saturn, maybe a few nebula.
To give the view and ease of use for the average man. To see what one can see and do in say 1hour or 2hours of taking it out and seeing what it can see and how it performs.
This scope isn't made for planetary, so Jupiter and Saturn are out, and what it can do depends a huge amount on light pollution, so that's a difficult ask :)

I notice overnight Dwarflab updated the anticipated delivery schedule for the Dwarf 3. Looks like delivery dates have been pushed back 2 - 2.5 months until late December for orders placed in August/September. January 2025 for orders placed in October. Bummer...

Impressive for the price but it seems like it needs a better higher resolution lower light sensor and higher zoom... do they have a "pro" version? Also if you were going to buy today and money was no object what would be the best telescope you could get with this sort of form factor and feature set? I'm planning on taking a roadtrip across the country and want to take something like this with me but best of the best.
I've seen a number of quality hardware devices that fail to connect to the app or fail to accept firmware updates, basically rendering them useless. I always check the app before buying devices. I'm glad that the Dwarf 3 doesn't appear to have these issues. The worst Google Play (Android) review talks about an intermittent connection to an iPad Air... which doesn't run Android.

I’ve used my D2 in the wilds, away from WiFi and mobile data. It still gets the images….
@@markgarner3505 It is AI powered. AI is trained using pre-existing images and uses it to predict the actual ones...
@Rohit-oz1or Which when editors like pixinsight also offers AI corrections, really means nothing. You can simply download the raw frames if you prefer and stack them yourself in post. Of course you'll still have your AI fear.
How do you know pixinsight/DSS/etc doesn't just download images from the Internet?

@@CuivTheLazyGeek Nice.. I never see the Milky way ever here.. have to go away from the city or camp in the desert and wow.. what a view.. but here.. a few bright stars.. all the planets to Saturn..and the moon.. thats it..

Just wonder how long it will take them to update the software? Maybe when Dwarf 4 is nearly out. I felt they burned us who bought the D2 as they did no update for 12 months, and think they only updated the app due to D3 coming out as there was only this big update 2 months or so before D3 came out, so does that mean D3 wont get any big update of the app till D4 is almost out.
So the small blurred points of light that are distant stars or galaxies, will, with this device become slightly larger blurred points of light.
How does the FOV and resolution compare to the SeeStar?
How do we know the device isn't just sending you stock images after it determind you've got a clear sky overhead?
