How to cut solar cells

  • Some time ago I needed a method of cutting solar cells in order to make from a larger solar cell (6x6inch, 0.55Volt, 8Amp) a number of smaller solar cells to be used for a small solar panel for batteries charging and other applications. Here is how I have succeeded to do that.

    I've seen other videos so far on how to cut a cell but this is the simplest, cheapest and thus best so far. Thanks a lot for this. Can't wait to try this

    Muy buen método, cortarlo de esta manera. Pero hay ser un experto cortando vidrio, ya que el grosor del vidrio de lamina solar es 0,2 mm. Es extremadamente quebradiza y frágil. Me gusta esa idea, voy a intentarlo hacer.

    How can I contact you (the contact form on your site doesn't work)? The cells you cut are polycrystalline, right? Does it also work with monocrystalline cells?

    HI , Thanks for the reply .
    After many attempts and in different pressures (breaking some during the cut and other after snapping it ).
    I think the problem is the orientation of the crystal inside the cell . they run in 45deg compared to the lines .
    I can easily breat them (even without the glass cutter) at 45 deg angles with very straight lines but not the way you do (with the conductors orientation) . I think I will go back and try to improve my dremell cutter.
    Thanks

      @danithebest91 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think he cut policristalline cell, you are trying to cub a monocristalline cell, that have 45degree crystal orientation compared with bus lines, and cannot be cut in that way

    Grozav, voi incerca si eu asta! Vreau sa imi fac un panou mic si nu gasesc celule la dimensiunea dorita. Ai incercat si pe monocristaline? Ma gandesc ca ar trebui sa fie identic.

    How does this affect the output of the cell? Does each piece still produce .5 V?

    • @tudurache
      @tudurache  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, only the current (and power) will be smaller, proportional with the surface of the cell.

    Looks Like This Process Works Well For Polycrystalline Cells Not For The Monocrystalline Cells I Tried Them On. For Monocrystalline You Have To Cut Along The “Grain” Of The Lattice But, At Least For Me, That Did Not Line Up With The Solder Lines. I’m Going To Try The Dremel Method.

    • @VeryDramatic
      @VeryDramatic 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vNewH0USE I Got It To Work. I Used The Diamond Rotor They Recommend On Other Videos. It Works Great. Very Important To Build A Good Jig So You Can Cut Strait. I Did Get Jagged Edges On Most Cuts But The Cells Worked As Normal
