  • This "how to make a solar panel" video shows how to connect everything together including all wiring, soldering and cell layout (using tabbed solar cells). Full easy instructions. if you are using "untabbed" solar cells watch my video on "Solar Cell Tabbing". (tabbing is very easy to do). items can be bought as a kit on ebay. for about $48.00 you can get 40 solar cells, tabbing wire, bus wire, flux pen and even blocking diode. i used lead free rosin core solder from harbor freight. cost about $2.50. soldering iron is just a basic 30 watter. the third (and final) video will show how to encase/enclose the panels in either a plywood box or metal framed case. UPDATE: (11/10/2016) i just got the third and final video posted showing how to make the enclosure (or case) for the solar panel. here's the link • How to make a Solar Pa...

    yes, it's good to know how to make them. along with a slight cost savings, knowing how means you could potentially salvage/repair broken or damaged "store-bought" panels and either "save the panel" or at least salvage some of the intact cells from it. gave me a new appreciation and understanding of solar panels, actually building them.

      i was thinking, those cheap solar powered garden lights, you could take the panels off of those, yeah? That was before I saw how cheap solar panels are!

    I made some back when you had to pay 1.50 or more a watt but today with high powered panels 24 volt 240 to 300 watt 36 to 40 v panels only costing .85 to 1.10 a watt with warrantee I just buy them. Great to see you put out the video on how to. Did one myself. Always good to share the knowledge. Keep up the videos.

    Not only could the plexiglass warp but I'm guessing it would also get "cloudy" from exposure to the weather ie: sun rain dirt.

  • @flamedrag18
    @flamedrag18 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    ever look into wiring glue? no soldering required, just glue the tabs to the panels or even the panels to each other directly. also, just taping the whole thing directly to a pane of glass with packing tape works great, it's only glass between the panel and the sunlight and the tape keeps it together.

    I just received a bunch of solar cells I ordered and the front of them looks fine, with complete lines across the whole surface, but the backs of these have only lines across HALF the cell or even less! They don't have three spots like yours. I saw a couple in this stack that only had an eight inch contact on the back side! So what do I attach the back wires to if there's no line there? Are these defective and can I use them?

      hi there and thanks. there are generally 2 ways to do it. you can either buy a kit (on ebay). it comes with the aluminum rails and resin etc... or you can make a wood enclosure. *my next (major) video will be on how to make a plywood and glass enclosure. (good timing on the question - i got sidetracked with other videos and never posted a video on this...but decided last week to finally do it)

    • @desertsun02
      @desertsun02  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi there. i'd use actual glass if possible. if you use plexi-glas just remember that it sometimes bends or warps when it gets hot so you wouldn't want the solar cells up against it. (high probability that the cells would break when the plexi-glas started warming up). if plexi-glas is all you've got - i'd recommend designing the casing in a way so there is a little air space between the plexi-glas and the solar cells.

      Yo inverti en aire acondicionado solar, de una marca llamada TRYSOL , ( sistema inverter e hibrido y 100% solares) ,
      ya que evaluando que las fotoceldas no son lo mas optimo para bajar el consumo de energía, ya que las fotoceldas,
      no te sirven para echar a funcionar los aires acondicionados y vaya que estos son los que mas gastan energia cuando
      los prendes y es el factor del pico arrba en el recibo de luz, es la mejor opción despues de yo usar fotoceldas ,
      estas fotoceldas solo sirve para los focos, televisiones y alguna que otro dispositivo electrónico para tu casa ,
      ni siquiera para la secadora o el microondas, y aparte la inversion es la misma que los aires acondicionados,
      la diferencia es que si ahorran bastante , mas del 70% de ahorro en mi recibo comparado con el bimestre del año
      anterior es bastante ahorro, y a sabiendas de que el aire acondicionado es lo que mas gasta energía y las fotoceldas
      no le ayudan en mucho, creo que vale mas la pena invertir en aire acondicionado solar . la verdad me funciono muy bien..
      después de ya casi 2 años gasto muy poco de energía en mi recibo de luz , estoy realmente contento . funcionan excelente
      y son nuevos en el mercado.. esta compañiA esta sitiada en Mexico, SON FABRICANTES, excelente tecnologia, no tengo los datos a la mano pero los buscas como
      TRYSOL AIRE ACONDICIONADO SOLAR ..es nueva la compañia , fui de sus primeros clientes, pero creo ahora solo venden a corporativos..

      hi there. if you mean a solar cell - no those can't be fixed. you'd want to un-solder it and add in a new one. if you mean the panel 'shell' then yes that can be repaired.

      All you need is simple math. Amps x Volts = Watts. Check manufacturer's cell specifications. If you use 3"x6" cells, each cell will produce approximately 4 amps at 0.5V. 4 x 0.5 = 2 watts. 1 kW = 1000 watts. 1000 / 2 = 500 cells.
      If you use 6"x6" cells, each will produce ~8 amps at 0.5V = 4 watts, so you would need 250 cells in this case.
