I have started developing interest in next generation Hyundai palisade. I tried buying a Toyota grandlander hybrid in Saskatoon, but the only dealer in town is no longer taking orders and there is a 2-3 years waitlist. I checked out another toyota dealer 6 hours away in Edmonton. The dealer in edmonton is awaiting the delivery of the GH platinum max but already has cost marked up by $10,000 Cad. My 2012 elantra is on its 12th year with just regular maintenance, so i might get lucky on the reliability of the next gen palisade just like i did with my elantra.
This is such a nice car for the money. Spacious and upscale. A miss that the Calligraphy isn't available in hybrid, since your tester is definitely missing out on the extra sound deadening and acoustics. I also think they should have stuck to 19 inch wheels. These 20 inch ones are not amazing, but it's hilarious that they offer 21 inch wheels for the gas model.

I use it almost every time I get into the car. Usually my phone, but I'll probably use it to sanitize masks in the future. I don't think it was a gimmick largely because it was made in response to the COVID pandemic. I find last summer when we had that heatwave in BC in my Niro, the ventilated seats were next to useless when it's hot inside the car. If they had more than just fans under the seat flowing air from the foot wells then it would be worthwhile. Now, when it's under 30 they work fine.
To be able to get the best out of the cooling seat feature is... First, you should make your cabin temp low enough. It does not have its own built-in A/C... Plus, I don't remember having a heatwave in BC last Summer..😅
In the process of returning a leased '21 Sante Fe hybrid and exchanging for a '24 Calligraphy (no hybrid.) So disappointed that they're no longer offering the top trim levels with this engine option. The fuel economy with the hybrid is simply phenomenal, however, being forced to downgrade to the Preferred trim was a non-starter. A puzzling decision by Hyundai to package it this way.
Do you live anywhere near the US border? If so, is it possible to cross and get one from the US? I live in the US and I have the Hybrid Calligraphy. I'm sure you could find it in states like Washington, Michigan, etc. Idk about how it works, but I know it's possible.

It drives me crazy that in Canada vs USA ,we have different trim levels ,colors and packaging with the foreign brands. Even the Lexus RX built it Ontario for both markets,we Canadian’s are limited to color choices etc. I just don’t get it ! Also I like that the Santa Fe has a light color headliner . Most are going black which to us makes the vehicle seem drab. We just bought a telluride SX prestige in the US and love the light grey interior. Not available in CANADA!
I've owned three Santa Fe's & love the hidden trunk space. I don't need the third row, which is going to push me away from this brand I think. I have a 2019 Santa Fe and just had to replace the transmission because of some wonky shifting. I'm not sure what to get, and have to start looking around at other brands I think, but I don't know where to look right now. I'm not a fan of CVTs so I'm not sure what's out there. Although I'll look at a car with CVT just to see where they're at right now.
Great channel! The problem with Hyundai and Kia is that the dealers do the "market adjustment fee" on newer or popular models. Local dealers have the new Santa Fe at $5-$7K above MSRP, Tucson is $2-$4K, etc. Varies by trim levels. You don't want to know the mark up for the Palisade. The Santa Cruz and Elantra are priced below sticker. Kia does the same thing. I understand Zack's comment about the free market dictating price, but I can decide not to pay it. And I don't.

The Hyundai/KIA/Genesis Group certainly are bringing their A-Game. Is great styling enough? If they can over deliver on price and reliability… even just a little bit, they may be able to take a decent slice of Toyota and Honda away. I doubt they’ll EVER have their solid reputations, but right now… is the perfect time to jump in. Especially as Toyota and Honda are getting a bit cheeky with their pricing and their stellar reliability reputation has been slipping (somewhat). If I were at Hyundai, this might be the Best time to ‘jab’ at them.. Hell, I might even try a Pickup (from their local/international fleets)… while the Tacoma TRD Pro Off-Trail Limited pickups are crossing the $70,000 price point. Good for the Hyundai! They certainly have come a long way from those Pony days (Stellar/Excel). Thanks for the video.
Vertical LED lights in the rear would have looked far better IMHO. The strange rear lights don’t quite do it for me, even though they work on the G Class and older MBs (W108, 111 etc.). It’s a shame!
They almost nailed the design but their track record isn’t there yet for reliability. My building wouldn’t let people park in the garage when the last round of “park outside” fire warnings came out.
Gear selector…. If drive is chosen and driver not hear verification sound then not in Drive. Simple. Did you experiment with in Drive and open door as if to leave car? Did it automatically shift into park?
@@andreaspencer9813 Well, I guess that makes the decision not to look at it more incredibly easy. Still leaning toward the Outlander thanks to it's large EV range and lack of true transmission keeping the drive train simple.
@Snerdles The Sorento PHEV is still available and has been facelifted. Santa Fe is the better one between the two, though. They seem to have allocated all the Santa Fe PHEVs for Europe.
@@ishaansaral502 I may look at the Sorento, but it's only rated at 48km PHEV range which in Canada makes it only eligible for half the EV rebates (under 50km). That means where I am the Outlander gets 10K off and the Sorento gets 5K off, so I'd have to REALLY like it a lot more to justify the price. It also uses engine heat rather than a heat pump for cabin heating, which in Canada basically makes it a Hybrid in the winter like my existing PHEV which is unfortunate, that's one of my main complaints of my current PHEV.
@Snerdles That makes a lot of sense. I don't understand why the Santa Fe and Sorento get smaller batteries and no heat pump when they are more expensive and larger than the Outlander. Outlander is a great PHEV for the price and has a nice cabin and good space for the size.

Matte paints LOOK cool ... but the world is designed to just destroy that finish. I've looked at the XRT, Limited, and Calligraphy ... I want a Calligraphy with the XRT wheels and tires. The 21" on the Calligraphy are ridiculous. Who on earth wants that? These aren't compact sports sedans meant for the track ... they're big ol' SUVs that run on crappy roads during pothole season. Yes! If they had made that model one more year I’d happily bought it to replace my 2013. I’m really forcing myself to find something to love on this one. The interior has slowly grown on me, the exterior, not so much.
I was looking at the Santa Fe, but I don't need it so big. I would love the Tuscon PHEV, but they are not available in Texas. I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe PHEV and absolutely love it! I fill up only once a month! That is the big reason I would love the Tuscon PHEV. Not sure what is so good about the Tuscon Hybrid. I am leasing. Your thoughts????? BTW, I lover your shows.
PHEV
Really like your Comments Been watching Zac since the Olden Days TV show. Hear is a thought provoking question. What is going happen in Jan. 2035. Will all Gas and Diesel cars just Disappear how long will the Coroner Gas Stn. Survive.
You said they don't have heated seats in the rear, but do they have it in the middle row????
Does the NHL model come in a hybrid option?
I don’t see anything bad at all in finding it similar to a premium car. Because you guys didn’t make the homework but people from the LR were hire to help with the design
Can you get the XRT with the hybrid?
You can not, only the gas model.
Love my SF NHL.
@@derekplatt9205 Most of the car manufactures will not honor the warranty if you buy in one country and import it into the other. In most cases not a legal thing, just manufacture's policy to prevent us from buying a cheaper car and brining it home.
@chrisxxx8685 Ah I see, I am sorry to hear that. That's silly.
@@chrisxxx8685 .. cars are not cheaper in the US, with the current exchange rate. That's just a myth now. With the conversion, they are actually much more expensive in the US.
@@Topazpm20 Agreed also this works both ways, a couple moved to Florida recently and had issues with their new car they bought in Canada, still under warranty. Dealers refused to work on it (under warranty) as it was not bought in the US. They ended up driving back to Canada to get it fixed and then back to Florida. Made the local news.
I HATE black interiors... there's nothing to distinguish it from ANY car on the road.
Are the offering Captains chairs in the Santa Fe? I love Captains chairs with a 3rd row
im 6'3 220 lb, i find the console a little too wide to get comfortable
Where I live, essentially every single Hyundai dealership sells at MSRP. Often lower.
I can’t unseen it now - the rear reminds me of the Toyota Privia 😅
I would only go with the 6 speed transmission, 8 speed blowing up
6 speed is not much better.
@@tocreatee3585 I've not heard of any widespread problems or recalls. I've 112000 hard miles on mine and it runs like new, not slippage or lagging shifts.
I was gonna get a top trim highlander hybrid for $71k CAD but due to insane theft rates (near Toronto) I went with a base model $48k CAD Santa Fe hybrid (48k after taxes. 40% cheaper than the top trim highlander). Hopefully the cloth seats and 18" wheels will help deter thieves. For better theft prevention go for 'Ocado green' - green is one of my favourite colours but the ocado green just feels wrong, ya know?
hey, I was interested in just preferred hybrid trim (without trend package), is driver seat powered? or manual? it says powered driver seat in website but trend package says powered driver seat as well so I am little confused, thanks!! :) and congrat!
@@jayyang4363 I see what you mean. I just looked it up, and you're right, the dealership is being obtuse. Here's what happened: the base model has "Available Leatherette seating surfaces" ... "Available 8-way power passenger seat" - but it's only AVAILABLE if you get the $4,000 'trend' package.
The base trim is definitely cloth seats (not leatherette) but as for the seats, it's unknown. Maybe only 4 way or 6 way adjustable instead of 8, no clue.
(my car is being built ~ November that's why I dunno the answer to your question)
@@zenon3021 yup this was exactly what I also figured, still confusing haha. Well we shall see when mine gets here sometime in Spetember
@@jayyang4363 The Preferred Hybrid model has manual front seats. If you get the Trend package, that's where the power driver's seat comes in. The passenger seat is manual with no height adjustment on the hybrid in Canada.
When is the Plug in coming?
Damn you guys get the sunroof in the mid spec.. here in Australia it's Calligraphy only...
Is this preferred variant with trend package included or without?
Our test model has the trend package.
I thought manufacturers weren’t allowed to put turn signals/brake light on the hatch. They have to be visible if the hatch is open.
They have it covered and compliant
They have separate lights below the hatch that come on when you open it.
They have already taken over. Now the 3rd largest auto maker in the world.
Vertical LED lights in the rear would have looked far better IMHO. The strange rear lights don’t quite do it for me, even though they work on the G Class and older MBs (W108, 111 etc.). It’s a shame!
This is at UBC. My apartment is just around the corner. 🎉🎉🎉
I don’t understand Hyundai sales strategy for hybrids, it’s dumb, the hybrid should be available in higher trim
They almost nailed the design but their track record isn’t there yet for reliability. My building wouldn’t let people park in the garage when the last round of “park outside” fire warnings came out.
I hope they fix their transmission & fly wheel problem. I love the way the vehicle looks and the spaciousness. That might be on the xrt models.
they did in Hybrid
Gear selector…. If drive is chosen and driver not hear verification sound then not in Drive. Simple.
Did you experiment with in Drive and open door as if to leave car? Did it automatically shift into park?
1.6? Incredible
Exact same car I have even same colour but not top of the range😅
Do you know when PHEV details are going to be released?
At this time there are no plans for a PHEV.
I dont think that Blue is available in the US
Disappointing you can't get ventilated seats without the NHL edition.
It's insane how radically Hyunda/KIA change their designs so often! How can the quality be good if they're constantly changing so fast?
Priced too high in the US. Need to wait a couple of years for discounts.
Fyi. 2 days ago I bought the 2015 calligraphy hybrid AWD version. Have eco everything turned on a driving like a grandma. Yet I can't get over 30.1 mpg. I am going to get pissed if the gas only version gets better than the hybrid.
should i trade my 10 year old yaris for this Hyundo
Yes you should.
Guys! please... I know its not the venue to ask
but I need to know where is the liftgate or trunk open button in the car for the 2022 Hyundai SantaFe Preferred trend
The big issue with the NHL edition to me is that it only comes in MATTE white paint. A) don't want white anything. B) absolutely REFUSE to own a matte paint job. The matte bronze looks cool. Give me sidewall!!
I'm not super sold on the shifter either, but I could probably live with it. Still really like the vehicle, and continue to nudge my wife towards replacing her Equinox with one.
I can't do the math, but I bet a tire shop could find the right combo of a 18" wheel and a tire with the correct height to replace the 21's. of course there's the price.
Wait the Preferred doesnt have powered drivers seat standard?
Im confused as well, official website provide information saying Preferred itself do have power driver seat.
I posted this question on your other video, my bad and sorry -
Would anyone know if the hybrid has homelink?
I like it.
2nd row pass through or bust
Go Leafs!
What mileage did you actually get with it?
Bought ours six weeks ago and have already taken it on two road trips. We are getting 600+ Miles to a tank of gas!
No memory drivers seat in the hybrid is a big miss. Could be a deal breaker for me.
Please try Andrea finish before you start talking…I observed you interrup her always…i know i loved your reviews and support as Canadian….
