I turned my 2011 Mustang over to my son and got a 2018 Super Crew XLT 2.7 with chrome package and 302A package with navigation. Yes Matt, parking definitely more challenging than the Mustang! But, did a 2200 mile trip and this thing is so comfortable. Most comfortable vehicle I've ever owned. FYI I did get 26 mpg on the highway and now get 21.5 in town. Thanks!
Ive got the same, but with the 3.5l ecoboost, and no nav. Best vehicle ive ever owned. I dont mind having a more traditional radio rather than an infotainment system. I used to own a fully loaded 2016 fusion.... the infotainment system could be awful at times. The chrome on the 2018 xlts is actually nice. Its not too much like the lariats. I love the minor chrome trim on the interior. It looks so good on the vents and the stripes on the door. This is my 6th vehicle, dont see myself getting rid of it unless i find a 2018 xlt in the same color but with the 5.0.
I bought the 2018 F-150 Supercrew 2.7L and I pull a 5000 lb Keystone Bullet 24' Camper. Truck pulls with no problem at all. It is perfect for what I use it for.
Not crazy about the new headlights, but now the lil 2.7 Ecoboost has more torque and a 10 soeed transmission. I laugh at some of the comments I see below about how bad they think these engine are. All I can say is go drive it, their quiet, smooth and very fast! Apparently a lot of folks are being impressed by the 2.7 because it’s now the F150’s best selling engine. Matt have no idea why yours did so bad on MPGs because I constantly get 20.4 in town, calculator checked and I cut the stupid stop start thing off. I’m starting to see Ecoboost engines at around 200,000 miles on them and they are running great, maybe not the engine for everyone, but so far I love mine!
I'm a GM guy who happens to work at a Ford dealership. I've driven so many F-series trucks over the past year for extended periods of time - every light duty and super duty configuration - as well as several GM, Toyota, and Ram trucks, and I am seriously impressed with this F-150 and it's EcoBoost V6 engines, they are top notch. This 2.7L is very quick and to me feels better than the 5.3L V8 in the Silverados I drove. Also the 3.5L EcoBoost feels quicker than the 6.2L V8 in the Sierra Denali that I drove (although that V8 sounds MUCH better than the EcoBoost and the power delivery is more linear, which is why I generally prefer N/A or superchargers over turbos). The 5.0L in the F-150 is nice too, great power and sound. Despite everything though, if I was buying an F-150 my choice would be the 3.5L EcoBoost. The power you get from that engine is just bonkers and I love it. Still, I do like how the Silverado/Sierra drive better than the F-150. The GM trucks feel tighter and better planted, almost like unibodies; the F-150, despite feeling lighter thanks to the aluminum, still jiggles and bounces more than the GM trucks do. The Ford and GM trucks to me are leaps and bounds better than the Tundra and Ram, everything from engines to interiors to driving dynamics, though I haven't been behind the wheel of the newly redesigned Ram yet. Great review Matt, loved hearing your take on this!
I love my dad's 2018 F150. The only thing I don't like is he's a guy that HAS to have chrome. So he's got chrome everything on that truck. If I needed a truck, the Sport trim would definitely be my choice.
I have to have all my trim either paint matched or dark-grey/black. I'm really glad manufacturers are offering all their trucks with painted trim. To some people chrome = luxury. To me, chrome = cheap flaky plastic. But hey, we all have our tastes haha.
10 speed I drove didn't have the issues yours did, wondering if with 16,000 miles yours has just been beat on by press members and may have some issues. I also kept my foot out of it and was able to get about 22.5 MPG over a month of driving it.
Ecoboost engines take a few oil changes to break-in,.... literally. You want start averaging 20 mpg total at all until you exceed 3000 miles. Talk to a few ecoboost owners and they will tell you that the turbos unfortunately do this truck no justice when it come to EPA in the beginning.
I test drove one of these a few months ago and it smelled really bad in there. I think the salesman ripped a fat fart in there before dropping it off to me.
I have a 2016 XLT Sport Edition 3.5L EcoBoost, no issues driving 14-16hr long trips like I did with the RAV4, and the storage is awesome! The only thing that sucks to me is the headlights as they don't throw enough light out has they are smoke tinted from factory.
I agree with you. It is terrible having the auto start/stop feature !! Just think how many you are using the starter. Probably have to buy another starter in a few years. I would definitely disable permanent !!
The F150 along with all the other expensive trucks have high-resale value, much better than any other segment. The used prices aren't much cheaper, that's why people buy them new with a lot of incentives on the hood. There is probably no other $60,000 vehicles on the road that hold resale better than this expensive trucks.
On top of the fact that trucks keep their value incredibly well, with very few exceptions, nobody would ever pay even remotely near MSRP for these things. Our local Ford dealer, for example, will gladly give you $8,000+ off up front with incentives and other discounts available on top of that.
Have an XLT with the 302a (2018) and the 5.0l motor - my "lifetime" average (never been reset) and have about 3100 miles on it is 20.3MPG No doubt that the 2.7l TT is a decent motor but when will people figure out that just because it has smaller displacement it won't necessarily get better MPG - the turbos just plain negate better fuel economy....
In 10 or 15 years when it comes to the used market these Ecoboosts are gonna be either good or bad. Not because the quality of engineering but many people that own trucks negate maintainince which will effect the Ecoboost in the long run. I imagine that it will require specific mantainnce over its lifetime that if looked over and ignored could cause more issues once its older.
I don't really like when people say dock trucks for being big and difficult to park, yes they are when you go from a car to a truck but once you drive it for about a week or two at most you will be whipping that thing into parking spots like a mini cooper and when you get back into a regular car you feel like you are driving a go cart.
J.C Boston I'm mean, no and no. Modern fseries destroy the old ones in capability and the raptor is one if the most badass looking offroaders ever made.

Now there are 200k trouble free ebs everywhere and a relatively small amount of complaints. I think they're stellar engines for reliability.

I want to trade in my Mustang GT for one of these. I can't fit my family comfortably in the Mustang. Bought it when I was single and had a lot of fun but it's time to let her go. 2016 Mustang GT Performance Package with a Kenne Bell Supercharger. 😢
a full size PU with a dinky ENGINE yech over worked give me a loafer V8 gas mileage might not be as good but it won't be straining all the time like this
I have owned both a 2015 5.0 F150 and currently own a 2018 2.7 F150. The 2.7 is a much better engine for towing and frankly every situation. It develops all 400 lb/ft of torque at 1700 RPM. I found with my 5.0, it was constantly downshifting and revving up around 4500 RPM to maintain speed on highway while towing. It also develops 400 Lb/Ft of torque like the 2.7, but not until over 4,000 RPM. On the highway, my 2.7 loafs along at 1,700 RPM in 10th gear at 80mph. It accelerates quicker by a long shot over the 5.0, gets better gas mileage and operates at much lower RPM then the 5.0. Now with both port and direct injection, carbon build up won’t be an issue. It also has 25% less rotating parts then the V8. I was skeptical at first as well, but I’m definitely a believer now.
Toofast For you I hope you're joking. First of all, it's the same generation, so no matter what you do, it's going to look similar, the second point, even for higher trim levels, they can't redesign the entire interior for a few trim models, no brand does that, because it would eat significantly into profits. They can change a few things, but not a ton.
Man these new keyfobs are terrible. these things weigh as much or even more than a cell phone. Who the hell wants to lug around that honking device? If keys were still avail sign me up.
I've never bought a Ford ans will never buy it in my life after almost killing myself from 2018 explorer's carbon monoxide leak. Get a Korean car or a Chevy. They're much well built with fewer problems.
Ram has always made junk and used value nose dives like a airplane out of fuel. Just like for ones for sale. Best deal for a 4x4 Crew Cab is Ram. Why because their garbage. A friend of mine bought a brand new 12 miles Ram 4x4 Crew. I looked at it and told him his driveline was entirely covered with rust. In the shop more then his driveway. He kept it 6 months. Lost his arm on it but cut his loses before he lost more.
I agreed, just wish Toyota would redo the tundra already. Needs to be more effecient, mpg is horrendous, like ,12 mpg. And the interior and infotainment is from 2012.
2016 ford mustang here. Good luck once you're out of warrantie, the evaporator is leaking and they have to remove the whole dash to replace it and cost $2000. Plus the screen is acting up sometimes won't play the music from bluetooth.
My 2016 Tundra has been great, not much to break since its a simple truck. I even get 22 mpg with the 4.6 engine. It's reasonably quick too. The big 3 trucks are becoming too complex. Trucks should have a V8 period.
Brian as if two extra cylinders and double the valves are simple. Nothing simple about the tundra, except the looks, features, safety, and fuel economy

Why would you want an F-150 without a V8?
Christian because your wife wants a raptor.
Because the twin-turbo V6 is faster, more powerful, and gets better mpg than the V8. V8 is a waste of money.
The Tundra has a lot more space and much bigger rear doors it has been the largest since it's 2nd gen redesign
Ho Lee Fok Is it? I thought the tundra in its standard form was a f-150 competitor, that's what everyone I've known has said, but Idk.
WRONG on the interior space. The F-150 is larger inside. But now the 2019 Ram is class leader for interior space.

Great truck but the ram and Silverado look way better
Can you review the Nissan Kicks ?
Plain
more like a lariyacht
a full size PU with a dinky ENGINE yech over worked give me a loafer V8 gas mileage might not be as good but it won't be straining all the time like this
I have owned both a 2015 5.0 F150 and currently own a 2018 2.7 F150.
Inside looks just like my 17 Ford F-150 work truck failed ford failed
Toofast For you I hope you're joking. First of all, it's the same generation, so no matter what you do, it's going to look similar, the second point, even for higher trim levels, they can't redesign the entire interior for a few trim models, no brand does that, because it would eat significantly into profits. They can change a few things, but not a ton.
Man these new keyfobs are terrible. these things weigh as much or even more than a cell phone. Who the hell wants to lug around that honking device? If keys were still avail sign me up.
Ty máš teda ksicht
Chew an ambien, you talk too fast.
I've never bought a Ford ans will never buy it in my life after almost killing myself from 2018 explorer's carbon monoxide leak. Get a Korean car or a Chevy. They're much well built with fewer problems.
The 2018 F150 looks ugly, 15-17 looked way better, do a review on the 2019 Ram 1500 the interior and exterior are higher quality and look amazing
Already reviewed the 2019 Ram a few months ago.
2.7 liter???? Whaaaaat????? God damnit ford
Robert Robb what’s wrong with that?
iDrive4fun93 most truck guys want a truck with a high displacement (5.7L) v8
@Tej Singh that's so douchey
I'll stick to my 2011 5.0 F150 🤷🤷
To all the people that have a problem with what I said... there is no replacement for displacement.
They're great but 20K overpriced 😂😱
If u buy it at the end of the year even without the A plan u can get $17k off, maybe more. 😕👍
I just can't get over not having a V8. Chevy for me.
Austin Murphy aaaaaaannndddd turbo 4 on the way from Chevy.....
You walked in to that one. Chevy will also release a 2.7L 5 years after this 2.7L with far less power and same mpgs.
Ford still sells trucks with their 5.0L and 6.2L V8.
TurboDieselDan actually no, ford only sells the 3.5 EcoBoost, the 3.3 EcoBoost, the 2.7 EcoBoost, and then the 5.0 V8
Austin Murphy Then buy a 5.0. V8s are good for sound, but that's about the only advantage they have only ecoboost engines.
Get rid of auto start stop useless and you get better mpg with it off makes no sense
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA F150?!
Ford vehicles just seem cheap. They don’t have a good reputation for reliability. I’d rather spend my hard earned money on a Toyota Tundra.
I agreed, just wish Toyota would redo the tundra already. Needs to be more effecient, mpg is horrendous, like ,12 mpg. And the interior and infotainment is from 2012.
Interior looks so dated
“ what’s up everybody it’s subaruwrx fan here, but I bought a mustang” in less than 1second
its nice but after 4 months youll get issues right away- ill go with toyota tundra
What issues will you get?
Ram best
Rams hahaha
Gary Cake haha u
overpriced
Gosh fords look so basic. Even optioned out.
HA gay! I’ve seen a Honda Ridgeline do better
The 2018s looks horrible..2017s are far better
2.7 L? Really? On a truck... shame.
Next time test drive a real truck, that Ford truck is a piece of sh@#!
