Dishonored was such a beautiful, filthy world. I really don't feel like any of the villains were mustache-twirling stereotypes, despite the fact that several should have been exactly that. Nobody was flawless in that game, except perhaps Jessamine and Emily. Jessamine we saw only for a few moments, struggling to do the best for her people, and her sweet daughter Emily, wanting nothing more than to be reunited with the man she loved as a father (and her literal father) Corvo. The only thing I wish for would have been novels, comics, more DLC...anything to build the world more, to reveal more of the lore. I never understood the whales as much as I wanted to. And Granny Rags really deserves her own DLC.

Yes. Vera Dubghoill/Moray (Granny Rags) is one of the best and coolest side characters I have ever seen in any piece of media. I would adore a granny rags DLC or something similar. One problem that presents itself, though, is the fact that Granny Rags works much better as a character due to the fact that she is so mysterious.

"The combat just kinda... works out." I've never been quite able to say this myself, but that's EXACTLY why this game is so amazing. There aren't any rules; you're dumped into a cleverly designed playground and it's up to you how you choose to have fun.
It's canonically known that Daud lets Billie leave with her life. Death of the Outsider picks up after Dishonored 2, and Billie and Daud both reference "what she did" and how Daud has moved past it.
I think one element of the DLCs that I love so much is the fact that once you break it down, it plays out like a classic noir or detective story, but with a twist. Daud is a disillusioned man cutting back at the city to find one small piece of a truth, a truth that might set him free. The main difference is that Daud is not a cop. He’s an infamous assassin, known both to the scum and the nobles of the city alike. The scavenger hunt element you talked about plays into the noir theme, with each mission turning into a mini quest for clues on top of the overarching narrative of finding Delilah. It’s such a fresh take on the fairly flat and binary revenge story of the base game. Redemption in Dishonored doesn’t feel redeeming; Corvo still is a worse man by the end. In the Knife of Dunwall and its sequel, however, redemption is earned.
Yeah, corvo doesn’t have to redeem himself because he did nothing wrong But he did thinks that are morally questionable in he’s path through the game in order to achieve he’s objective that is to save Emily and cleanse he’s name if he can (low chaos) Menwhile daud is the cause of the political instability and chaos that has erupted in the empire, of course he needs some redemption and he know it very well
Dishonored and it's sequel and spinoff are one of the most underrated videogames in recent years. I replayed them all this year and was blown away by how enjoyable and open ended those games are.

Billy has gotten her time in the sun, as she deserves, and I love her don’t get me wrong. But Thomas still deserves more then the one offhand reference he gets in death of the outsider.
On my first play through I choose to spare Daud, even though it was a pain in the ass to fight him I thought he would do as much harm alive as he would dead. Just the way he spoke made me feel he was just tired of killing, which made me think of some headcanon where Duad was either trying to fix the mess he created or trying to set a new path for himself to right his past decisions. I got this all from just his voice acting from his talented VO Michael Madsen and learning of the ability to play as him, that his ways may have actually changed makes seeing speak in his and Corvo's encounter all the more surreal. Sweet! I wish I could go back in time and play so many games again for the first time. Another underrated series of stealth games is the Styx series, which are very likely very affordable these days.
The ‘non-lethal’ ends for Rothwild and Arnold timsh are absolutely perfect in terms of fair punishment and irony. Something new I’ve discovered is that if you kill rothwild with the chair, there’ll be 3 butchers at the start of Eminent Domain but only after you’ve dealt with timsh. Great video!
Art style really holds well in Dishonored. I remember some people complain how photorealistic graphic are much better, but Dishonored looks much better than other games from 2011,2012.
the same could be said for games like Okami, Borderlands, Valkyria Chronicles and Wind Waker. when an artist tries to do an actual art style, 99 times out of 100, that art style will age much better than the realistic graphics of the time. In Okami and WW cases, you can throw them on an emulator and crank the resolution to 1080 or higher and get a more pleasing looking game than modern Call of Duty or something.
@@Bole_ZG i was always fascinated by people hating Wind Waker's art at release. Especially since its probably become the most beloved of the 3D Zelda games, and its cell shading was a huge factor in its timelessness. I mean TP, OoT, MM, Skyward Sword all look worse now than the non HD Wind Waker.
@@quinnmarchese6313 you can also see that in Nintendo hype video, when they were announcing "more mature" Zelda.People really go crazy for new Zelda, and now TP looks weird, and that face models, while ww is cute as always.
@@Bole_ZG as a kid who fell in love with the series at OoT, Wind Waker never fails to charm me. I personally think it has the best soundtrack, the most interesting iteration of hyrule (i mean, how cool is Waterworld?!), and has the characters with the most vivid personalities. plus, the story is much more personal than any other in the series--you could argue that SS and BoTW have a similar sense of "this time, it's personal" but the whole sister kidnapping thing gets me immediately invested in this specific Link.
I love how in Dishonored 1, the high ground is a natural advantage. You're always going to find your way up there eventually. The struggle is knowing when to dip down and do the dirty work. But in Dishonored 2, the high ground is a constant struggle. And it plays into the maps design too. The buildings tower up in Karnaca in a foreboding nature, so you're funneled into this one street. You have to use pipes, street lamps, balconies, rocks, and the other pieces of the environment more often. I loved Dishonored map deign, but my favourite parts are when I don't have the luxury of hopping from rooftop to rooftop, like a lot of the base game missions. I love the Slaughterhouse mission in KOD because you have to be smart, you don't have an inherent advantage with the roof.
The Dishonored DLCs are my favorite games I've ever played. The base game of Dishonored is still really good and I played the crap out of it, the DLCs are just so much more impactful to me. To this day I still go back and play through them. It's also part of the reason I cannot stand the story of Dishonored 2.
I love the atmosphere and concepts of new powers for 2 but one thing I despised and turned me off hard was the change of voice actor for the Outsider and turned him from an enigma to try and make you sympathize with an all knowing void god. Supposedly the first VA was fully willing to voice again for 2 but they never contacted him and just picked another VA
@@veronicatazri9092 Same. Another thing for me was the level design. I was just not as good as the previous. It was bigger and more complex but had very little nuance.
@@veronicatazri9092 I see everyone say they hate the new va but imo dishonored 1s va felt like he wasn't even trying to fit the character. D2s outsider feels mysterious and alive.
@@hankhill8344 I felt like it fit the profile perfectly in 1. Just through his tone of voice, it is clear what his motivations are. He doesn’t really care about anything. He’s just bored and curious, and gives his mark to people he finds interesting with absolutely no restriction because he wants to see what they’ll do.
The fact that you were able to have a 30 minute breakdown on One (1) DLC from this game, and keep it engaging, and clever is the sign of a good content creator for sure. You, sir, have earned yourself a sub.
Her line about "playing it like the piano" sold the game to me, I'd heard of the franchise and seen the gameplay, but I needed to hear it described like that for it to finally click.
I honestly thought this was gonna be about the first mission in Dishonored 2 considering that to replay it you have to start a whole new game instead of just useing the mission select screen
Honestly one of the big reasons why I love dishonored is that even after many many playthroughs, I always seem to discover something new whether it be something that I can do or a place I can reach. It's very very cool.
After playing the DLC for Dishonored and then Death of the Outsider, you come to realise that the entire Dishonored series is not Corvo's story, nor Emily's. Dishonored is Daud's story.
Yes. I love verticality in games. I played the acclaimed Alien:Isolation and I quit because of the utter flatness of the game. Might as well have been playing a dungeon-crawler. Give me the verticality of Styx, Dishonored, Thief, and Deus Ex.
I absolutely share the love for these DLCs. When someone asks, I think Dishonored is my favorite game.. but always want to add that the DLCs are actually my favorite. I agree, that they do blow the original game out of the water
Daud's levels are rich, wild and uncontrollable, like Daud. Giving us a look into the parts of Dunwall city that we would never be able to explore as Corvo. Each mission is brilliantly designed and still has the Dishonored spirit at heart. I also love the fact that Daud can talk (lol) and have a mind of his own. Believe it or not I was getting rather tired with the quiet protagonist trope, so Daud joining in conversations and reacting differently to events, was really refreshing. On a side note, absolutely love Drapers Ward and its chaotic residents.
@@hankhill8344 Blinded? No, my concern is with the sense of hearing, and the sound propagation in the first 2 Thief games has not been improved upon since then. And as fun as they are, the Dishonored games throw immersive sound propagation out the window for some reason.
@@Torgo1969 you make it sound as if thief's level design wasn't complete ass aside from literally 3 levels. Dishonored, while not as polished in it's stealth mechanics, is overall the better game by a slam dunk.
@@dr7922 Fair enough. Thief TDP was my very first PC game so it will always be special. I still replay the first 2 Thief games and the entire Dishonored saga every few years or so, and I consider them all to be treasures. Particularly the 2 special missions in Dishonored 2, The Clockwork Mansion and A Crack in the Slab.
All i needed to hear was from 0:34 to 0:38. Take another sub dude. The first Dishonoured imo is one of the finest video game creations ever!. It ticks so may boxes for me its unreal.
I avoided watching your Dishonored videos for a while till I finished D2, and now that I'm done with that, I'm ready to enjoy some good ol' Leadhead philosophy
Oh yeah, I remember first bypassing the witch trap by accident then hearing the other witches plan, made me feel like a badass when daud sees through the crap and doing something about it
The golden cat bathhouse was my favourite level of the base game, the attic where it was sort of safe and the basement, the first and second floor were a lot of fun to navigate through.
The amount of depth there is in Dishonored’s world and gameplay despite the rather simply plot is what makes it my favorite game of all time. The DLC only makes it better! Thanks for the great video
I can't put to words how happy I am that I found your video essays about this game. Its really an unparalleled experience. Thank you so much for making these, and expressing what a lot of people have felt in the years since its release. I wish I had the ability to use this platform in the same way, because I have a great deal to say as well, but time and money for software are limited.
I love how much you’ve put into a video about Dishonored no less the DLC’s, there’s really not enough Dishonored videos out there but this definitely sets the standard, watching these had made me really want to do another play through now😂
Haven't watched the video yet, I am as I'm writing this. 1/3 of my entire year 11 group have been sent home to isolate, including myself and its stressing me out since its in the middle of mock week and we might not even get our real GCSE exams so these are important, but as soon as I saw this video, uploaded literally 9 minites ago, I got excited. I love your channel and your videos really help to distract me when I need it. Thank you x
I like that at the very start of the KoD a huge clue in how skilled Daud is was the gift The Outsider gives him during the cutscene. Just a name. On a name alone he was able to uncover so much. The Outsider didn't go into any detail about who or what Delilah was until after Daud discovered that for himself. No "hey there's this evil witch that needs to be stopped and you're just to guy for the job" none of that. Just "here's a vague clue, run with it how you see fit."
The dlcs surpassing base game is very true. My favourite example of this is Borderlands 2 and the "tiny tinas assault on dragon keep" dlc which kind of knits up some loose plot points in a very cool narrative setting. The metaplot being about grief and acceptance is what manifests this as one of my favourite dlc ever
your videos definitely read like an audiobook of a novel, especially how you describe what is happening in games in great detail and always refer from the "you" and "me" perspective
Dishonoured has some of THE best level designs both from a visual perspective as well as gameplay perspective - It's one of the things that Arkane really excels at.
I’m glad to see you are making more dishonored videos! They are my favourite videos from you and honestly the reason why I subscribed, keep up the good work! Hope to see more in the future.
Incredible video as always. You convinced me to buy the game a while back. Haven't had a chance to play it yet but the more of your videos I watch the more excited I get.
Today is the day I noticed the weepers body where the oversears with the music box are... I always took the body from the doks on the side of the factory.
1:40 daud, like 20 years later: the outsider LITERALLY FORCED ME to kill the empress. hes a big meanie and everything is his fault. im gonna take over your game and force you to go kill him billie
Yeah, daud blaming the outsider for what he know is his decisions feels like bs. In my ideal canon Emily killed "Megan" on the deco of the Dreadful Whale and DotO never happens.
I recently replayed DotO and it’s not that the Outsider was a big meanie who forced Daud. It’s more Daud recognising the Outsider is the common element with supernatural killers. Take out the Outsider and you remove the possibility of someone like Daud causing more chaos. Billie gradually works out that choice is the deciding factor; but Daud still comes across as a problem solver who thinks he worked out the problem.
@@Shoxic666; arguably true, but would Daud have gotten to the Empress without the Outsider. Would Delilah have made it as far without his help/presence? That’s a lot of what-ifs for the Outsider choosing to stay out of things to some degree or another.
I love Dishonored and I've watched about every essay on it because it feels like second home. Thank you for this, the dlcs are so underrated and if you feel like it, I would love an essay on every mission
What a coincidence, I just so happen to start up a new playthrough and as I go to bed that night, guess who's uploaded a new video?? Love the vid though man, always adored the dlcs.
@@ibn_adham Dark vision just kind of ruins the game imo. It's such a crutch and makes any encounter trivial. I don't think that it shouldn't have been included in the game or anything, as it's great for players who struggle with stealth, but it turns what can be a rewarding experience that encourages you to pay attention into the same braindead stealth gameplay that Ubisoft has been repackaging for years
@@cosmicpanda7043 I don't think I've ever seen anyone who isn't on a first playthrough use Dark Vision for the enemy-tracking element, unless they're trying to line up a trickshot of some sort. Most people just use it for coin/rune/bonecharm scavenging.
16:02 Fun fact: If you throw a grenade at that wood wall separating the Hatters from the streets, you can start a fucking street brawl between guards and gangbois. Always fun to watch too…
So... the last time you talked about DLC in a video, I went ahead and bought it on the spot (worth every penny BTW). This time, I ain't doing it...because I already bought it years ago, and I couldn't agree with you more, this DLC as well as the Brigmore witches is horribly underrated and sadly forgotten.
After my first time playing Dishonored, 3 months ago and the DLCs a month after that, I've been absolutely astonished by the replayability of the game. It's so fun. Similarly to your Mirror's Edge video, the more you get better and remember the layout of the missions, the more you feel more superhuman while playing the game.
@@LukaSzent I thought people knew dishonored 3 hasn't come out yet, so it's safe to say that I'm referring to the first game. I'll keep that in mind in the future though, I'm not really a native speaker.
Now, that I think of it, the entire court was quarantined. So it's not just Timsh, everyone in his mansion are probably dead, unemployed or homeless after that bit of poetic justice on Daud's part. Dunwall's justice isn't nice nor fair.
Finally finished knife of dunwall yesterday. Got spooked 3 different times by the sound of Billie teleporting out cuz i thought she already left You can imagine what it was like going through the flooded district in base dishonored the first time for me
I still play the first Dishonored to this day! Even though 2 brought in some amazingly fluid mechanics, the first game just seems more cozy. I love the DLC but in my personal opinion, Corvos has the best story line followed by Daud. However I would love to see a game where we get to play as Daud before the killing of the empress. He is kind of a mystery in the series and I know lots of people will not want to see a game that goes further I to his past because it could disrupt his overall mysteriousness. But playing as Daud before he got the mark and shortly after he got his mark would really be awesome and tie some loose ends to the mysteries of Dishonored. We know that Daud was supposedly one of the first to receive the mark of the outsider which is what makes him a badass. He has probably been the only character that we really get to see on screen that has dealt with the mark for that long. The big reason I would love a Prequel game for Daud, is that his story would definitely amplify the overall structure of the dishonored series while simultaneously opening up the ability to create new characters in Daud’s past, and progress them to a point in the new present world of the Dishonored franchise. What I mean by this, is that it creates more content for games. I haven’t heard any announcements about another Dishonored game release so this would be a great way to keep the game strong. These however, are just my opinions and I do not expect everyone to agree. I love the dishonored franchise and where it has went over the past years!
The dishonored series is so great, even the objectively worst one death of the outsider is still amazing. I hope deathloop is able to replicate a lot of what makes it so great, considering it is basically if dishonored was in a different time period and was in a time loop
13:56 hey, we don't know that. Remember that Aimes worked for Ramsey, and their interest is to only destroy the competition in their whale oil business. Those job guarantees Aimes mentioned is like saying these DHL employees are better off working for Amazon.

In Okami and WW cases, you can throw them on an emulator and crank the resolution to 1080 or higher and get a more pleasing looking game than modern Call of Duty or something.
@@quinnmarchese6313 true
Nice to see that I'm not the only one. I just could not love/like D2 for the life of me. The game just feels off.
For whatever reason, out of all of dishonored 1 and its dlc ,i remember this mission the most
Her line about "playing it like the piano" sold the game to me, I'd heard of the franchise and seen the gameplay, but I needed to hear it described like that for it to finally click.
Dishonored is so godd.
The whole series is great, I only hope Deathloop will be good.
I’m excited for death loop. I love the concept of dying and restarting with more and more knowledge. Like hotline Miami.
@@CASH10K this didn’t age well…..
I honestly thought this was gonna be about the first mission in Dishonored 2 considering that to replay it you have to start a whole new game instead of just useing the mission select screen
I thought they changed that in an update?
Wut?
Honestly one of the big reasons why I love dishonored is that even after many many playthroughs, I always seem to discover something new whether it be something that I can do or a place I can reach. It's very very cool.
After playing the DLC for Dishonored and then Death of the Outsider, you come to realise that the entire Dishonored series is not Corvo's story, nor Emily's. Dishonored is Daud's story.
High ground is everything: Obi Wan liked that.
Yes. I love verticality in games. I played the acclaimed Alien:Isolation and I quit because of the utter flatness of the game. Might as well have been playing a dungeon-crawler. Give me the verticality of Styx, Dishonored, Thief, and Deus Ex.
It's always nice to see someone showing love to this game, even though it's been years since its release.
I absolutely share the love for these DLCs. When someone asks, I think Dishonored is my favorite game.. but always want to add that the DLCs are actually my favorite. I agree, that they do blow the original game out of the water
Can never get tired of the dishonored topic
Exactly
Playing Daud's story was one of my favorite gaming experiences ever.
Dishonored 1 is easily one of my favorite games from the 2010s
Yes. It is no Thief: The Dark Project, but it is a lot of fun in its own way.
@@Torgo1969 blinded by nostalgia. Thief the dark project is dated and shit. Unless you are reliving memories which is completely understandable.
It ticks so may boxes for me its unreal.
thanks for covering this, literally my favorite stealth game and sometimes my favorite game of all time
I avoided watching your Dishonored videos for a while till I finished D2, and now that I'm done with that, I'm ready to enjoy some good ol' Leadhead philosophy
You're gonna talk about the Brigmore Witches next, right?
Leadhead: “…”
… Y-you’re gonna talk about the Brigmore Witches next, r-right?!
Leadhead: *”Yes.”*
Man i love this content. you are making me look at games and life in a different way
Oh yeah, I remember first bypassing the witch trap by accident then hearing the other witches plan, made me feel like a badass when daud sees through the crap and doing something about it
The golden cat bathhouse was my favourite level of the base game, the attic where it was sort of safe and the basement, the first and second floor were a lot of fun to navigate through.
I love how much you’ve put into a video about Dishonored no less the DLC’s, there’s really not enough Dishonored videos out there but this definitely sets the standard, watching these had made me really want to do another play through now😂
God leadhead you really had to pull out the dishonoured card . Well played , brilliant video keep up the good work buddy .
Awesome video just finished both the expansions the way you explain it seems so natural and perfect really. Keep it up
The dlcs surpassing base game is very true. My favourite example of this is Borderlands 2 and the "tiny tinas assault on dragon keep" dlc which kind of knits up some loose plot points in a very cool narrative setting. The metaplot being about grief and acceptance is what manifests this as one of my favourite dlc ever
this was beautifull half an hour. Love dishonored, love your attitude in this video. Please, make more
Daud was the shit, loved playing as him
your videos definitely read like an audiobook of a novel, especially how you describe what is happening in games in great detail and always refer from the "you" and "me" perspective
Dishonoured has some of THE best level designs both from a visual perspective as well as gameplay perspective - It's one of the things that Arkane really excels at.
I habitually watch this like every month, I love this mans videos
I’m glad to see you are making more dishonored videos! They are my favourite videos from you and honestly the reason why I subscribed, keep up the good work! Hope to see more in the future.
Incredible video as always. You convinced me to buy the game a while back. Haven't had a chance to play it yet but the more of your videos I watch the more excited I get.
Obi-wan loves dishonored. It has the high ground.
I love Dishonored, and your videos have made me appreciate it even more. Thanks.
With Dishonored 1 being one of my all time favorite games, I love every time I see coverage of it that is this good. Thank you for the video!
I love those videosss

don't you make me play this game again... for the 100th time
Today is the day I noticed the weepers body where the oversears with the music box are... I always took the body from the doks on the side of the factory.
Holy crap I just make a vid about DLC on this, and I was thinking about how it seemed right up your alley!
You're awesome man, thanks for the video :)

daud, like 20 years later: the outsider LITERALLY FORCED ME to kill the empress. hes a big meanie and everything is his fault. im gonna take over your game and force you to go kill him billie
Yeah, daud blaming the outsider for what he know is his decisions feels like bs. In my ideal canon Emily killed "Megan" on the deco of the Dreadful Whale and DotO never happens.
@@Shoxic666 man billie doesnt deserve that, i just pretend DoTO never happens and leave it there lmao
@@lord0jackostar But were it not for the Outsider Corvo would have died a prisoner and Emily would be a puppet.
Still my favorite game of all time.
Was hoping Daud was protagonist in a third dishonored and death of the outsider should not exist.
wake up babe, new Leadhead Dishonored video
me at my s/o this morning
Insanely good video, well done m8
I remember when I first played Dishonored on Xbox 360 and I adored it, the level design, the visuals i just loved everything
I fucking love
LOVE THIS FUCKING DLC
I BEEN PLAYING THIS DLC FOR 5 PLAYTHROUGHS AND I HAVEN'T TOUCHED THE BASE GAME HELP ME
Should we gather for whiskey and cigars tonight?
Indeed, I believe so
I played Dishnonored for the first time this year and was surprised to find a video on it uploaded this week. Wow.
Great game. Great youtuber. Great time! Thanks for making this, i love dishonored, I've played it at least once a year since it came out.
i see Leadhead is a man with very good taste that also likes the first Dishonored
YES the dlcs are fucking incredible. If you never played this game PLEASE do yourself a favor and buy it, only $3 on steam i believe
Very good video, it reminded and rekindled my love for this game and it's DLC's.
What a coincidence, I just so happen to start up a new playthrough and as I go to bed that night, guess who's uploaded a new video??
Love the vid though man, always adored the dlcs.
I’ve put so many hours in doing so many of the things u did it’s good to know Im not the only one
Keep up the good content man. Your one of the best TH-camrs out there.
I played dishonored three times over yet never knew it had dlc, how
Knife Of Dunwall is literally better than the base game, play it immediately
@S I remember the first time I played the dlcs, it was so crazy, I kept dying in the first mission over and over, now I can speedrun it
Have you tried playing them yet?
Why do I keep watching these twice? I don't even play Dishonored.
Well... you should, they are really good.
D o. I t.
I want to thank you very much for introducing me to this game.
It confused me when he said dark vision is the most important power because ive never used it after my first playthrough, and ive played a shit ton
You're seriously limiting yourself without dark vision
Dishonored 3? Are you from the future or something?

Now, that I think of it, the entire court was quarantined. So it's not just Timsh, everyone in his mansion are probably dead, unemployed or homeless after that bit of poetic justice on Daud's part. Dunwall's justice isn't nice nor fair.
thx has always for this fantastic monday routine
Brightmoor Witches is one of my favorite bits of gaming ever. Really great dlc.
Finally finished knife of dunwall yesterday. Got spooked 3 different times by the sound of Billie teleporting out cuz i thought she already left
You can imagine what it was like going through the flooded district in base dishonored the first time for me
I still play the first Dishonored to this day!
"maybe we could time it perfectly and choke them out with our bare hands"
yes i did that most of the time actually
13:56 hey, we don't know that. Remember that Aimes worked for Ramsey, and their interest is to only destroy the competition in their whale oil business. Those job guarantees Aimes mentioned is like saying these DHL employees are better off working for Amazon.

Me who wasn't observant and apparently didn't have a key on that guard: *Proceeds to use the pillar holding the roof over-looking the lever to hide me from the Arc Pylon to get close before sprinting and pulling the lever only to use Daud's Stop-Time/Teleport to get away before the Arc Pylon can zap me* "Haha yeah! The key!"
I got the conversation with the maid on my first playthrough of the DLC. Can confirm it’s existence.
