Did this driver's insurance company get contacted to attempt a claim, or did the careless driver do well for himself by running away? I was involved in a hit and run. I chased down the driver and got his license plate number and then continued following the driver to their house, and then went to the nearby police station but the police officer on duty told me I got the wrong plate number (I did not). He did not want to take a report over a hit and run so I gave up and went home. Maybe Friday nights are a busy time for police. The next day I drove to the person's house to confirm the plate #, take pictures of the other car's damage that matched damage to my car, and even got the VIN #. I gave all the info to my insurance company and they called the owner of the vehicle. The owner denied everything and that was the end of it. I assume that since there was less that $5000 of damage to my car and no major injuries it wasn't worth bothering over for either the police or my insurance company.
