”It’s like jazz - shooting on the streets. You’re improvising. You go out and then you get to listen the recording when you scan it or make a contact sheet.” 29:39
I can imagine there must have been a moment during filming when you realized you were capturing something truly special. Brian’s authenticity shines through, making his work so incredibly diverse and compelling. Well done, bravo to the both of you!
I don’t know many photographers who are documenting their friends and family who are dealing with crises such as drug use and gun violence, but I appreciate his perspective. Most people I have studied haven’t gone into great detail about their thoughts on the subject matter because they don’t want to offend or accidentally sensationalize the topic, but it’s so important for us to discuss our motivations and reasons for the work we create and share.
I've never heard of Brian Wertheim before but just the way he talks about people, I can feel his photos. You always make dope work but this is definitely my favorite. Great work Paulie.
Easily one of the best episodes that I have seen on this channel. Brian is so articulate but also such a down to earth person. It's nice to hear him care about the people that he photographs such as the war veteran or the housing community in watts. You can tell that they are also very fond of him and respect the work that he does. His images of the community in watts are honestly so beautiful and humanistic. This is also one of the few episodes that I have seen from start to finish. Amazing episode
For somebody that wants to be like everybody else L.A. Brian is true to himself I like his answer about originality. He shows his unconditional love in many ways .Going to the hood and being accepted really tells his truth to what he does.A beautiful piece of work .Thank you
Pauly, as a fan who followed you for over a year, this is your best walkie yet! In this video with Brian, we got to see different worlds in 1 documentary video. To have that connection with the people of Watts was beautiful. They treated him with respect like part of the family. Plus, you walking along and meeting people, and they were cool with you! I hope you'll do this in NYC, too. This could be something and to be recognized for your amazing work! 👍🏾👏🏾 Also, I need a Pauly B Walkie Talkie tote bag for my gear! 👍🏾😀
Love this one. Man ... Paulie just keeps bringing the photography motivation. Brian, you unintentionally served up a big lesson in how to treat people. Love your work. can't wait for the book on watts.
This is one of the better episodes you've done Paulie. I love the longer walkie talkies, especially from the photographers who deserve some room to breathe. Brian is a very insightful and knowledgeable guy and i'm here for it
I love photographers who are willing to put in the time to get to know the community they are shooting. Investing the time is the only way to get that kind of access. Great work by both of you
I show this series to anybody with an inkling of interest in photography. This is really one of the best work about photography of the modern age, I can fully say this without a single ounce of irony.
Hands down an incredible episode Paulie! Eye opening, and thanks for shining light on Brian's work - what an absolute legend doing some really incredible work. I love the range in the walkies talkies, like the insane difference between each person and their style and their approach... chefs kiss!
Could have last 5 hour, i'd be still hooked! That's it, that's what I'm seeking for, how to deal with access, the talking during shootings, strong and real connection... What a blast! Congrats man, you both did a good and important job that day! Great great great picture and all. Many thanks
This was such an awesome episode. I’ve worked in south la for 6 years and the amount of respect this guy has really shows how genuine he is. His work is truly amazing.
So good!!🙏 Grateful to have been along for that journey! Incredible video, and I learned so much by watching every aspect of Brian at work. 📸 I want to go out shooting rn so badly but I’m healing a sprain from over the weekend. 😒
Brian is amazing at what he does. I cannot wait for some of the Watts work to be available, I really thoroughly enjoyed that part of this video and the images were great.
Great episode. Brians approach reinforces that there is no fast track to powerful doc work. It's also a great reminder of how just being a good human cam help you in so many ways.
My favorite so far. Man it really takes true heart to be him going out there like that. He has that character trait that people see the sincerity in. At the end of the day, he gives something back to the people who are vulnerable enough to give him their time. Much love🤘📸
probably the best episode to date. soo interesting. such a mixed bag. just shows if you treat someone with respect they will you. no matter their background
This is like an episode of Spanian, but with photography. Paulie B, so glad you safe my brother. BEST VIDEO you made so far, for many, many reasons. This shit is REAL, man. Damn.
Thank you so much for doing this episode. I've been having a hard time getting access for my own documentary work, and it's wonderful seeing another documentarian have access and treat the communities he's photographing with honor and respect.
In my opinion this is the best of the series so far from the content point of view and from the techical point of view. This is what we need in youtube. Personally I feel close to Brian’s approach and his human condition focus.
Amazing Walkie Talkie and work, Brian! But, how amazing would it have been if he asked for a group photo at 1:08:20. He was offering it up right there!
Love the video Paulie, there's only one thing I wish you would've asked the guy in the green hoodie. I was hoping to hear his perspective on the same question you asked Brian about how someone could get access like Brian. Even though I know what he would've said lol. It's all about being authentic and honest with your intentions.
The relationship he has with the people in Watts is wild
Easily the best Walkie Talkie. Your magnum opus, Paulie. Bravo.
”It’s like jazz - shooting on the streets. You’re improvising. You go out and then you get to listen the recording when you scan it or make a contact sheet.” 29:39
Reuben Radding made the same comparison between Jazz and shooting on the street, funny.
I swear these long cut walkie talkies is where it's at. I love to see a 1hr or more. It really shows the stories behind the photos
I can imagine there must have been a moment during filming when you realized you were capturing something truly special. Brian’s authenticity shines through, making his work so incredibly diverse and compelling. Well done, bravo to the both of you!
YOU KNOW HE'S A REAL DUDE, WHEN EVERYONE IN THE HOOD GIVES HIM MUCH LOVE! RESPECT!!👊🏾
I don’t know many photographers who are documenting their friends and family who are dealing with crises such as drug use and gun violence, but I appreciate his perspective. Hands down the best Paulie B vid ever. Brian is so good at fitting in and making content. Respect.

out of all the photographers you've had on walkie talkie, this guy has been by far the best one. Keep crushing it Paulie!
this is the best taste of LA photography i have seen. awesome work.
Emmy award winning work, Paul! And mad respect to Brian for this one.
Pauly, as a fan who followed you for over a year, this is your best walkie yet! In this video with Brian, we got to see different worlds in 1 documentary video.

Just incredible. This could've easily been a stand-alone doc. Great work.
this was the best yet and what an incredible photographer Brian is, his work was truly special. keep up the great work guys
Brian a G for his work throughout Watts
Good shit
Sat down and watched the entire extended cut on Patreon without skipping. Made me feel something. Great work as always.
Love this one. Man ... Paulie just keeps bringing the photography motivation. Brian, you unintentionally served up a big lesson in how to treat people. Love your work. can't wait for the book on watts.
When most TH-cam ‘photography’ videos have become ennui-inducing algorithm fodder, this is absolutely fucking compelling.
One of your best yet man. This series is documentary quality, an absolutely insane treasure trove for people to look back through for years to come.
The L.A ones have been my favorite, this one and Jeremy Paige's are phenomenal
this is bloody fantastic
This is one of the better episodes you've done Paulie. I love the longer walkie talkies, especially from the photographers who deserve some room to breathe. Brian is a very insightful and knowledgeable guy and i'm here for it
This was a great one.. I love the Reuben ones but this is right up there for a completely different reason.. really good.. bravo
Watched all of it. Real cool. Brian is authentic, probably opens these doors for him.
I love photographers who are willing to put in the time to get to know the community they are shooting. Investing the time is the only way to get that kind of access. Great work by both of you
One of your best video posts to date Paulie. Kudos to Brian and the community he documents.
