@ Exactly. It’s skate history documented in the most perfect way. Everything is well said, well visualised and enough info is given in the short amount of time that the videos are, however some interviews with skaters who dropped NBDs or well known tricks/lines would be the icing on the cake for me; especially as most from this era are past their prime or even semiretired. Similar to what the Dern Brothers do regarding the interviews, I guess!
Would be interesting to see him go to famous spots in Europe like macba or palais de Tokyo in Paris. Agree could easily make it an hour if they went into more detail on some of those milestones in skate history
Haha wonder if they know who they are talking to. It's crazy to think that Mike Carroll and Jason dills tricks to them are as ancient history as Beatles or rolling Stones seemed to me and my friends in the nineties!
As a non-American and someone who has never been to the United States, I can learn a lot about American geography and history from the This Old Ledge series, appreciate it.
What country do you live in? People in Europe who have never been here are surprised America's don't travel internationally more. It's because a 3 hour drive here and you can be in the same state to tale a vacation. A 3 hour drive in Europe and you could have gone through 5 countries.
@@JoHnAnDjAnEdOe81 lets say you drive 5 times through Luxembourg or Lichtenstein, what should be technical possible in 3 hours, i think traffic jams will make 3 hours generally impossible.
man growing up in LA we had so many 1am missions here back in the day. probably with a 10% success rate but when you did get to skate it, you felt so blessed and grateful
@@yesidoskate Ok…That’s hilarious. Did you have a different name at the time of me replying, or do I get to blame this on my old age and or crazy work week? Ha. Hope you’ve been well.
As an engineer with roots in LA exclusively supporting architectural built environments and enthusiast of city history I was extremely impressed with this piece. I learned some things but appreciate how skating always pulled inspiration and energy from my surroundings. Kalis talks about this in so many words how he considers himself a 'Plaza' skater preferring spots like this over parking lots or random neighborhood spots. For so many things to come together in order to have a spot like this exist let alone be free from harassment long enough to get footage really is a moment to be preserved in our collective consciousness. Thanks for for doing such a good job on researching and presenting details so many benefit from without knowing the designers or materials. Mies van der rohe is one of my all all times; huge in Chicago area like FLW. Glass house in Ferris Bueller is one of many examples in popular culture (even if just by one of his students).
Now 50yrs old, I'm geeking out on the history lesson, the facts about the architecture and clips of one of my past favorite skaters, Rick Howard !! Dude, what a killer fn video ! Thanks !!
The architecture analysis in this episode is stunning. They're all great, but your summary of the DWP and how it relates to the Barcelona Pavilion was phenomenal. A great lecture on modernism and skating. So well done.
Favorite spot to skate of all time. Use to have to sneak through the side of the entrance to avoid the security guard posted inside . Get like a good 40 min sesh .
Love love love this series!!! I can listen to this dude talk about architecture all day! Not to mention the amazing skating and smooth jazz to make it all come together.
This series is absolutely incredible. Love and appreciate every episode. Really scratches the itch for sophisticated, adult skateboarding content the way it touches on history and architecture.
These are such beautiful pieces. Love listening to this dude talk about architecture and skateboarding, in the way that he does. These are always a treat
thrasher-this series is amazing. ted, absolutely amazing work. almost feels like an architecture video (which i guess these ALL are, in a way) absolutely brilliant series. at older age, skating a few times a year, thrasher STILL has my interest. these videos keep me coming back and watching. keep up the amazing work.
Only visited this spot once back in 2012 and got kicked out almost instantly and Ted described this spot perfectly! Great episode. I wish it was longer haha
I thoroughly enjoy these Ted talks. They're so insightful. I'd like to see other cities as well. This is one of my favorite series. Always happy to see a new episode 🍻
Sorry, this short, but extremely educational video and also featuring Mike Carroll and Mike Modano ??? Whaaaattt !! Thanks again for video and commentary !! Just perfect !!
I know this probably won’t ever happen, Baltimore is slept on in skateboarding and in the world in general. But the Baltimore Lyric statue is a great and iconic spot for our city, and it’s old as hell, just like the city. Great history. Probably one of the only spots in Bmore you’ll see in the occasional video. Great work again Ted!

Fun fact, DWP is still mitigating the issues in regards to Owen’s lake and the devastation it caused to the nearby town all so LA could have water. I recently went out there to shoot a documentary on all of it and it’s insane what is left of Owen’s lake to this day. Always wanted to skate here.
I skated there at night recently. You can still get tricks around or using the stoppers in creative ways. It felt amazing to cruise around there. I went Sun late night
These need to be 45/60min segments. Travel the whole of the states, even the world. I'm here for it
Absolutely. These are time capsules that we can watch 20+ years from now

100%. As a guy who is way outside CA, I would love to see more of the country included.
Would be interesting to see him go to famous spots in Europe like macba or palais de Tokyo in Paris. Agree could easily make it an hour if they went into more detail on some of those milestones in skate history
I agree!
Lol I love how Ted is geeking out about the spot with some random skaters at the end 😂😂
Calls himself the old weird guy 😅 Teds on point with his shit tho. Flame treated granite

Haha. I too did a lot of 1-2am missions here. I had maybe 4-5 times where we came and went on our own without being kicked out. Blessing for sure.

Best skate series on TH-cam. Keep taking your time to do it right, don't rush man.
Could never have imagined I’d be so fascinated to learn the story behind a block of granite or concrete. Epic series.
Thanks for the history, Ted 🙏

And in the perfect context.
I hope thrasher is considering making “this old ledge” into a coffee table book series.
instant buy
would def instantly buy

Again, amazing job and eloquent delivery. I love this series.

I love these. The craftsmanship of the production is elite.
The only skateboarding content that I can send to all my non-skater friends and they'll still enjoy. Love this series, please never stop.
