Refreshing to hear him discuss his love of Philly. There was a point when I wanted to move to Philly because it reminded me of NYC but there’s something unique about Philly, the way locals engage and interact is more direct and open compared to here. It’s a great vibe
@@thegraffboy123 As a born and raised New Yorker, the transplants that come to NYC with a goal of being a successful street photographer tend to have inflated egos and, more often than not, come across as prententious. Regular people are fine, we're kind, not nice.
Love how genuine and sweet he is. I feel like this might be a good case for how a personality type might open the door to an opportunity, and in this case his disposition might be very disarming for people when it comes to his photos. And that's a talent all on it's own. I also love what he documents and his love for Philly. I feel like we should all be able to document what we enjoy and find genuinely interesting. But I love that a black photographer has such a beautiful body of work about the black experience in Philadelphia. I feel like when you shoot what you know and love it comes through differently than being an outsider. I live in Philly too, but I'm not from here and I'm not black, and I often think about how not to step over a line where it feels like I'm trying to photograph something that I don't maybe fully have context for and perhaps it isn't for me. But that's my own insecurities as I'm still trying to hone in on what sort of larger body of work I think I'm trying to build. Anyway, really enjoyed this episode. Seems like a swell guy. Oh and that point at the end of photography as an act of love, I dig it, going out there and trying to capture those intangible fleeting moments that make up our collective human experiences is absolutely an act of love.
What a wonderful tribute to Olu's incredible journey as a photographer! As someone who's seen Philadelphia change in countless ways, it's heartwarming to see such young talent and passion captured so beautifully. Olu's ability to tell stories through the lens that no one else can is truly inspiring. Thank you for sharing this masterpiece with us. It brought back so many memories and a renewed appreciation for the art of photography and the city of Philadelphia. Well done! 👍
When I lived in Philly, Olu worked at my fav lab Indie Photo! I was lucky enough to hear them do a talk at the Philadelphia camera show 2 years back and it was super impactful and such a wonderful chat. One of my favorite photographers hands down
We're so blessed to live in a time where we see street photography as it happens. Much love to Olu Okiemute and the city of Philadelphia. Much love to Paulie B. Peace.
A very unique personality. Also, very unique photos. I'd say he's one of the most original photographers I've seen on TH-cam in a while, and that's what I appreciate most about him. He has a unique vision.
Great episode and what a great guy Olu is. He lowkey cracked the code for me, and put into words I wasn’t able to do, why I love street and life photography: “Photography is the practice of love and zest for life, where you assign meaning and value to the journey one photographed moment at a time.” Thank you.
I've met Olu. He's an awesome guy who has a great philosophy when taking photos. Unique Photo in Philadelphia showed Olu and two other photographers' work called "On Being". It was beautiful and insightful to hear all three photographers discuss their work and process.
Paulie, I've just experienced one of the most memorable episodes on a walkie-talkie in a long time, if not the most memorable. And you know who made it even more special? Olu, such a cool guy. I'm currently in London, and I can't help but think how much fun it would be if you could come and hang out with us here. Keep up the good work, man...

I totally understand, working a full time job and doing photographic work can be difficult. When I shoot I personally enjoy working with actors/ creatives. The process and making something is always a pleasure. It’s quality over quantity.
7:27 It's typically what we as street photographer ! Or at least what I do as well ! Something is clearly happening. We come back to it. Pretend that we don't care but are totally focus on it ! We turn around. Don't watch directly. But we wait for the shot ! We eventually follow the guys. Might happen just nothing !
@@coda7902 Thank you! I didnt know F100 was small. I have the F4 (not F4s or F4e) and it must be bigger than the F100 maybe because of the removable viewfinder. F100 must have a stunning matrix metering, the one in F4 is ultra effective.
Standard Nikon matrix metering tech on the F100. I have the F100 too I use for cityscapes/landscapes. It's "spot metering" is precise too when you want to zoom in and meter for the shadows.
@@rf.photographs I always used my F2 for street photo. And it's not easy sometimes with center weighted metering, (if i remember well, it's 20% center and 80% around). Some of my shots (i would say 10% of them) were under or over exposed. I had opportunity to buy an F4 and i shoot with the same film (HP5+), same ISO (1600) and developed in with the same developer (Microphen), and all shots was exposed very well when i used matrix metering. I use Voigtlander lens 40mm Ultron, aperture mode f11 and focus at 4 meters (sometimes 2 meters if i want closer), and the Nikon F4 do a fantastic job.
Olu seems like a really nice person. Says a lot when everyone around the subway has a smile on their face when they see him.
What a nice genuine guy. Underestimates how good his work is.
Unlike some others who overestimate their work & talent.
I’m gonna tell my kids this was FroKnowsPhotos

I find people in philly are more raw and real while people in nyc are way more pretentious

"Is this good or am I bored?" , "If you have to ask you are probably bored" - genius, I will keep that.
Amen. More people need to think like this (myself included haha).
I love seeing people documenting places outside of NYC
He is full of good energy and the type of person that you’d love to be friends with.
What a bright ray of sunshine.
so very glad I stumbled onto this Walkie Talkie! We have so many great street photographers in Philly...Olu definitely has a great vibe.
„Adding value to moments by deciding to capture them” amazing words….
Olu is one of the most genuine people I have ever met. That smile lights up any room they walk into. Super talented photographer too.
"Adding value to moments by capturing them". Very true.
Olu, you are amazing! Paulie, thank you for introducing us to this lovely, talented and remarkable young man.

Good decent guy. Must be one of Philly's best.
Hey Paulie have you ever thought of livestreaming on twitch, similar to what terry barentsen does with bike content?
No matter where you are in philly you can look in any direction and find something to flic.
LETS GOOOOOOOO
Way to go
What lens is he using ?
I think it might be a Nikon 28mm 2.8 ais.
