    Beats all the other videos I see where people yarn too much and you don't see everything they're removing/replacing.

      @@foordoffroad8915 so just a tip guys... Buy genuine Toyota parts. I bought a Chinese rip off because I had no option. Guess what... It's messed up again, I guess it got me out of trouble, but really its not worth it in the long run, big potential for engine damage. Waiting for a genuine pump to fit now.

    Anyone thinking of doing this job should fit a replacement 2-piece factory pump. It is a smarter upgrade that means next time you dont need to remove 1/2 the engine to replace the pump again .

      Depends which bit fails
      I much prefer to have one gasket surface instead of two
      The back gasket fails and you end up doing the whole lot again anyway

    You don't happen to remember which direction the little piece of metal on the bottom 2 alternator bolts with a Y shape on one end faces do you?

    @MrA8888888888888888 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well explained thanks. Mine needs doing; have you had much to do with split water pumps, if you are swapping the old one out a split pump would make this faster to change in years to come?

    • @foordoffroad8915
      @foordoffroad8915  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In theory yes but that also makes more sealing surface where it can leak, and if it leaks from the back then you’ve got to pull everything off anyway
      You can do it either way but for a once in 5 years job I prefer the one piece pump

    • @foordoffroad8915
      @foordoffroad8915  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pretty much just the water pump and gasket, timing belt, tensioner, idler and cam seal all comes as a kit (depending how old it is, if it’s been done recently then reuse it) thermostat and gasket and if you want to at the same time since it has to come off anyway the drive belt and tensioner

    Fantastic video mate. When removing the cam belt do you need the kit to replace it or can you reuse the old parts? Mine was done not so long ago but if it’s coming off it makes sense to just replace.

  • @JasonMcNally

    I bought a hilux a little while ago at 155,000km. It has the sticker for the timing belt done at 150,000km so I just assumed that they did the water pump at the same time as any good mechanic would do... I'm now at 170,000km and I thought "time for me to do the injectors and an intake clean". So I call the mechanic that did the timing belt and asked if they knew the last specs on the injectors and out of interest I thought I would check if they actually did the water pump..... turns out, they had it all apart and didn't bother to do it. What the actual fuck....
    Also, just a question mate, I can take the belt off that they replaced and all the other stuff to change the water pump yeah? Like it doesn't need another new belt or anything special?
    Also, I'm guessing it's 100% necessary to take everything off that you did just to get to the water pump? Do I need to remove the radiator?

    • @foordoffroad8915
      @foordoffroad8915  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is common to replace just the belt, normally it would be recommended to do everything
      You can re use the belt and all components but you will need a little pin to hold the tensioner back in
      And you can do it with the radiator in the car but for the extra 30 mins it takes to get out makes the rest of the job so much easier

    • @JasonMcNally
      @JasonMcNally 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alright, I'll take your advice and take the radiator out. I wish I would have thought of that before I replaced the coolant, bloody dickhead I am haha. When you say a pin, what do you mean? Do you have a video for reference? Cheers mate.
      You're not in Queensland by any chance are you?

    • @JasonMcNally
      @JasonMcNally 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess another question I would have then if it's common only replace the belt is at what km should I be changing the water pump? It's just clocked over 170,000km

    • @foordoffroad8915
      @foordoffroad8915  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You’ll see in the video there is a pin in the tensioner that I pull out when I’m done, you need to very slowing compress the tensioner in a vice and put it in, you can use a small Allen key if you don’t have the pin
      Also the Hilux has a drain plug so should be able to drain most of the coolant into a clean container and use it again

  • @karmann1799
    @karmann1799 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Should have bought the water pump off toyota. Its a 2 piece replacement so you dont need to pull the engine apart to get to all bolts.

    • @foordoffroad8915
      @foordoffroad8915  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes that does make it easier next time….if it’s the front seal that leaks but Murphy’s law says it won’t be and you’ll be pulling the whole thing off again anyway
