      With due respect to Botswana processes, laws, cultural values etc, what is the charge to the former president's relatives. I conspicuously heard Ex President Khama say they were not formally charged. If that is the case then that is consistent with the way ZanuPf and Mnangagwa do business in Zimbabwe. I am sorry, should Botswana take that route it is doomed.

    Mr. Iah Khama, you put in place this violence in Botswana. When you took the reigns of power in that country, the first thing you did, was to transform Botswana into a police state.
    You put in place the machinery of the DIS, and transformed Kgosi (the then head of the DIS) into a monster. Extrajudicial killings started in Botswana. Corruption took root during your term as President. Patronage became the norm of the day in Botswana. You expropriated massive portions of the land in Botswana.
    Masisi was right next to you, seeing how you executed the system. He played your game, until you (fortunately or unfortunately) named him your successor. Mr. Ian Khama, you can't eat your cake and have it - unfortunately. Nobody could have believed at the time that one day you will run away from Botswana and take refuge in South Africa.
    Well that is the vanity about political power...its so elusive...unfortunately other politicians will not learn.

    " when a judge tells me, confides in me that look, you're not gonna win this case". Pardon my ignorance but is this not an admission of a captured judge? Or at the very least an extremely biased judge? To call a defendant and tell him that he/she is not going to win a case is a total lack of neutrality on the judge. Furthermore he also stated that "judges" call him. Isn't that a clear admission of a captured judiciary?

    • @SandileNtombela
      @SandileNtombela 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @BNG could it not be that the judges reaching out of him are doing so out concern being aware of what been cooked against him ? Onces judges are put under pressure by a sitting government to rule a certain way the neutrality is out the window so the lines are drawn. So the judges giving him a heads up are not wrong at all given that the other side has concocted the outcome never the less.

    Many of us sympathize with the former Botswana President Ian Khama. However, some of us think that Ian Khama should retire completely and let the current President Mogkweetsi Masisi rule the country the way he wants. These activities in which former President Ian Khama is involved are tarnishing the image of Botswana as a democratic country that smoothly handles the issue of leadership succession.

    The problem with Ian Khama, he was not a Pan-Africanist, aloof and arrogant, isolating himself from other African leaders, that's why no-one cares to intervene. He used to criticize Mugabe but Mugabe was respected by his Pan African compatriots. Karma is biting him back, now he has to flee his country like a refugee, Zuma, Mbeki and Ramaphosa don't care about him. You have to forge strong Pan African links if you want to be respected because westerners won't help you. This is Africa, not Ukraine.

      @ Stink Dem - Ian Khama was also corrupt. The first oppressive dictator of Botswana. He silenced the opposition, journalists and anyone who dared speak out. Now the ruthless DISS he created is coming to torment him

      @Stink Dem - You are not African, look at what Motswanas are saying about him on social media. Also do some research, you will find media reports of his human rights abuses. Since he was a pro-western dictator, western media didn't report negatively about him, but local media as well as Amnesty International and other non-aligned organizations did report his atrocities. Riots and protests were not allowed during his regime because of fear of reprisals. Journalists were harassed and prosecuted. Besides, Botswana is a small population which can be easily controlled and repressed, unlike a big country like South Africa which is hard to control.
