  • Former Botswana president Ian Khama talks about his plan to return to his country and fight for the democracy it was under his rule. He explains to GGA SADC executive director Chris Maroleng how incumbent president Mokgweetsi Masisi continues to erode the rule of law in Botswana, and allowed wildlife in the country to fall into the hands of poachers. “Two-thirds of our wildlife has been poached under his watch,” says Khama. Khama has long denied reports that he is in exile in South Africa, or that he had fled the country after threats to arrest him and security agency searches at his home. He also claims there had been an attempt to poison him in the run-up to Botswana’s 2019 general elections.

Can the batswanas pass a better verdict :
Was life better under leadership of Khama in Botswana or it is better under the current leadership of Masisi?
Lots of love from South Africa 🇿🇦 ❤️

Why can't he just leave politics as he should have? What is so hard about retiring and just disappearing from the public eye?

He maybe could have, the problem is that the current president pinned his hopes on the waning popularity of his predecessor and launched an onslaught of accusations to garner success at the polls in 2019; even theft, overturned most of his policies and frustrated him and his family. As former president he is entitled to certain privileges, these were being revoked as well, to the extent of changing his trusted workers and security detail, even kitchen staff.

I don't much on what's going on behind scenes in Botswana. Am not a tswana but have always cherished the democracy over the years! Democracy is not cheap, it needs to be protected at all costs. Some of us have lived in countries where there is democracy and also where democracy doesn't thrive. I just wish for the best for Botswana and hope they forever live in harmony with each other as brothers and sisters. Would hate to hear that there's a war going on in Botswana!

But it was Ian iron fist running of Botswana that started all these. Even the late Masire was concerned to an extent that he started supporting Masisi.

Every home is run in a certain way. If you divorce your wife and I marry her, can I take you to court? Just fix it in the way you think is right. As long as I'm have not taken away what doesn't belong to me, I don't deserve unnecessary prosecution

So he is blaming the burning of a minister's car on the current leadership? Lol! This man has lost his mind. The reason the security was tight was because not long ago people who support you were pledging violence against him at that bizarre and unprecedented, rowdy Kgotla meeting. You are formenting unrest in our country. On the reconciliation issue, you refused to cooperate with the team led by former president Mogae. You should tell the world the truth.
