Never was interested in Dark Souls or these type of games, played about 10mins of Bloodborne at my brothers house, died about 30 times, got pissed off and turned it off stating why would anyone play a game like that...... then went home. Game played in my head for a few days, thinking you know what, I'm gonna beat that basic enemy giant holding a brick. Bought it. Started playing it, died 10 times, shook my head and cursed the game before promptly switching it off and put Battlefield on. What a waste of money. 10mins later, right maybe if I roll left instead I can beat it, put it back on. Beat it!! Now I've beaten bloodborne, sekiro and working my way through dark souls 3. There is something about these games where it just keeps you coming back for more, like gollum with the one ring. Fantastic, addictive games which have provided me with hours of frustration and woes, but damn you cant get a better feeling than when you take that bastard of a boss out after 5700 attempts and about 5 years shaved off your life through stress. Keep them coming From software.
Yeah it's cause you know you can overcome it . I had a similar experience. It took me 6 months to finish bloodborne with many moments of "This is impossible. I'm done," and then a month to beat Sekiro. Then I beat DS1 and DS2 a week each. I didn't expect to like it so much but here I am with almost everything but DS3 and Demon's done.

DARKSOULS REVIEW Overall, the community is easy going and the players are kind to one another. You will find yourself being helped throughout the game with powerful npc’s and fair mechanics. Other players will also be available to summon and will protect you from harm. This is a game for people who want to take it easy and enjoy themselves. If you are interested in hardcore game I would suggest you turn to a more complex game like Borderlands. With that being said, be sure to check out Dark Souls III if you enjoy games: that are easy to learn that don’t have steep learning curves that will tell you where to go that don’t screw you over with unfair 1-hit combos that have a story you don’t have to find out on your own
Mark Dost this is my first souls game and maybe it's just me but it's not easy to learn and the learning curve is really big. I get stuck at every boss and haven't touched the game for 2 month because I can't get passed a certain part

Never played a Dark Souls game until I rented DSIII from Redbox...now I'm hooked. Haven't been challenged like this in a video gm in a long time. Makes accomplishments and discovery so much more rewarding. Didn't know any better and started a deprived character first play-through and never regretted the challenge.
this was the first Dark Souls game I played... didn't play Bloodborne either. And this game is awesome. thanks to a few tutorials online, I don't die nearly as much.. ha ha.. but even dying doesn't kill my joy, this game is spectacular. As a noob... I got abused, but I've learned the art of backstabs and trying to figure out weapon upgrading has been great. Buy ! Buy! Buy! *if you lack the hand eye coordination to be great at games... stay away from this game and play The Sims*
I don't have great coordiation for games like overwatch, etc., but I still love ds3 and am on NG+3 right now. Because of the stamina system smart gameplay and good strategy is rewarded just as much as fast reaction time. Otherwise, though, your review is spot on. And if you do suck . . . then FUCKING GIT GUD

Yes that's what I did for Bloodborne and while it was hard at first, I thought the feeling of getting better being unmatched to any other feeling in a game. Yes yes yes you'll enjoy ever second just like I did.
+Simplistic Honestly, the story in all of them is so obtuse, unless you intended to get REALLY deep in the lore, it doesn't matter. They are all standalone games in the same universe. I personally think DS3 is a prequel to DS1, which had it's sequel in DS2, but that's just my personal little fan theory.

I've been a fan of these games since King's Field back in the day. I'm about 35 hours into DS III and I think it's pretty freaking good. Some of the enemy designs are just out of this world, with some real standouts near the end of the game. The level design is structurally wonderful, with areas that feel very different from one another, from sprawling to linear. I'm disappointed that they couldn't get this to 60fps on PS4, but the level of graphical detail kinda justifies it. The boss soundtrack is amazing, with multiple phases of the music to go with the multi-phase bosses. Nothing will ever beat the sheer weirdness of the Demon's Souls soundtrack, but this is the best of the Dark Souls ones for sure. I'm with the author here, I think removing the armor upgrading system is addition by subtraction, I never liked it. Magic isn't fixed - I feel like they've been nerfing magic too much to compensate for the Demon's Souls Broken Poison Cloud of Death. Also, too many great-looking Fashion Souls unique weapons pale in comparison to a normal broadsword or estoc in the upgrade path yet again, making PvP look boring... again. Not fixed. And holy crap, that difficulty spike at Irythyll is nuts. Overall, I love it, weird problems and all. Praise the soup!
Today is the day Elden Ring releases. I am watching this video 5 years after its release and Ive purchased this game on Xbox and PC. I have played a couple hundred hours and I love the game. Now Im watching this to see if my pre order for Elden Ring was worth it even though they are 2 completely different games.
Once you get hooked to this game, you might suffer from the Souls curse. Meaning that no game will ever feel as good as these type of game after. Beware!!

I'd consider myself a hardcore fan, and your review is spot on. Even though nothing can top the fun of playing DS1 for me, I was still really, really happy with this game. In the face of the mass-produced triple-A title crap we usually hear about nowadays, this game is really unique and well done! The only downside is that it spoiled me-I can't enjoy any of my old games anymore! XD

I played every souls game since demon souls but Ever since Bloodborne I can't play anymore souls games. The reason is because I love the style of bloodborne and how it leaned toward horror than anything. The transforming weapons were freaking badass and the armor. Dark souls seems like childs play in terms of looks. Though, I can see myself playing dark souls 3 in the future. Just not now lol.
So I’ve never played dark souls or any other games from the series until my friend got me hooked on it after he talked about and worshiped this game for a few months. The only reason why I have the game is because he bought it for me and as soon as I saw the first cutscene I was completely hooked. I’ve never played a game this challenging or this engaging and now I’m trying to learn as much as I possibly can about it because of how intriguing it is the real ones will help you find things to connect with you and make things interesting.
Dark souls 3 was my first souls game I ever played. It was probably my first difficult game ever. I really got into it and have beat it at least 5 times. I then went on the Dark souls 1 and loved the level design and bosses but I didn't like the final boss and part of the story was confusing. I think Dark souls 2 gets more hate than it deserves, most likely because it is the most different of the games. It feels more fast and less dark and gory. I didn't enjoy the confusing level designs but I like the difficulty of the bosses and the enemies that spawned.
I actually got dark souls 3 but im still waiting to play it. This is my first FromSoft game and im excited to boot it up. It was this vs elden ring but it was cheaper so i went with this. I intend to play all souls games and elden ring in near future. Maybe even every FromSoft game if I can do that.
The similarities between Dark Souls 1 and 3 are amazing and I definitely think that they were for the better. I cant stop playing this game and im already halfway through my second playthrough
Don't be discouraged by the difficulty. It's one of those games where, when you finally manage to overcome the challenge, it feels so amazing and totally worth it. If you never EVER played a game like this, I suggest picking Knight too though. Pretty much the newbie class of the game.

Dark souls 3 is absolutely amazing. As a hard core souls series fan it seems like they combined the best elements of every souls game including demon's souls. It is definitely the hardest souls game yet but hardly ever feels unfair. The lag in pvp is far better than it was in dark souls or even dark souls 2. All in all this is really shaping up to be one of my favorite games

The main gripe I have with DS3 is the linearity of it. There's very little backtracking, it's very straightforward: explore new area, look for items, passageways, and bonfires, fight boss. New area. And so on and so forth. I really loved how the areas in DS1 were so intertwined, and this seemed to recede with DS2 but in this game it's flat out gone thus far in my play through. You go from area to area in a straight line starting at firelink. Once you find all the items in an area and fight the boss, there's no point in going back. I just got to the Ithyic (or however you spell it) castle.
+ManSwine into ng6 now. the graves is the same area as the starting area, lothric castle can be accessed very early on, a bunch of areas (eg dungeons) link to other areas, onion Knight is rescued by a cell that links there too. the world's not nealry as intertwined as ds1 or ds2, but theres enough of it there
I'm currently playing this on x1 and I'm really liking it! Its probably the best game as a ds type game I've played in a while and it does not disappointed. The way the game plays is perfect and the difficulty is great. Everytime you get through a boss and enter a new area is refreshing and you feel acconplished when you do so. The frame rate is fine in my opinion on x1 and its a lot of fun. I always seem to get a refreshing feeling when i do fight a new enemy cause they are more agressive and try to find away against my play style which is nice. I'm glad you cant just use magic to find your way around the enemy because now FP come into play and you need to use it in more useful ways. I'd rate this game a 9/10. the only way it would be a 10 is if they had more types of weapons but they have plenty of game to keep any ds fan satisfied!!
This is my first dark souls game. Bought the game 3 months ago, after a couple of times died to Gundyr I finally beat it. Then got decimated by the Katana guy, after 30 tries I finally beat it. Then head to Lothric, and stuck at fighting the knights. I stopped playing it because I was getting rekt by those knights. After 2 months, I finally decided to go at it again. Now I'm at the Abyss Watchers, and I'm still learning their patterns. I love boss fights if it's 1 v 1, I fkng hate it when multiple smaller enemies come charging at you and get decimated.
@@wolfmelody2787 I keep farming, making certain stats higher in order to use some heavy weapons and armor. I'm just revisiting past areas too to find some items, that's why it has become 60 hrs.
Yo! Magic characters have been buffed as of the latest patch as they were bugged, so no worries there anymore! Maybe add an annotation about it to inform people?
***** Nope, they're just not completely and utterly broken! To the point it was that upgrading INT and catalysts actually did not add to your damage. Now they just function as they should. Also Miracles have been tweeked so that they do more damage the closer you are to your target.Risk/reward balancing.

The souls games, for a lazy gamer like me, were really frustrating and challenging at first, but I have just completed DSIII and it is by far the best gaming experience I've ever had. This game is a stunning achievement. Like all things that are worth learning, like driving, or playing the guitar for example, they are really tough at first but the rewards are infinitely more satisfying in the long run.
I've been looking for something new to play for my XBox One and as soon as I saw the trailer for DS3 I was hooked. I cannot wait to play this game. I love a challenging game so hopefully this makes me earn it with each and every boss battle
I personal like both games, ds2 for the game play and how they improved upon combat but one for nostalgia reasons and the fact the world felt "lived in" where you could see other areas like how you could kinda see undead burg from darkroot basin, dark souls 2 if you looked into the distant on places like harvest valley you saw a horizon made of pixels, but both games are amazing.

I have a medicore PC. Picked this up and am surprised how well it's been running. The only lag i've ever had was when i first spawn in other than that it's amazing. Made it to Irithyll of the Boreal Valley and started to slow down might start playing again sometime not sure. But the 23 hours it has given me have been filled with ups and downs and it's great. I remember when I thought the high wall of lothric was challenging and now I look back and laugh.
Any new watchers of this video! This game is probably one of the best I've played in a long time. Every bug he has mentioned has been fixed, I've experienced zero game breaking glitches into my 17 hour playthrough(I don't even think I'm halfway done yet). There is SO MUCH CONTENT and so much to learn. This is my first dark souls game and I fucking love it. Although I was stuck on one boss for many hours I learned his patterns and I learned how to dodge attacks effectively. So it wasn't a huge waste of time. Lore wise- it's pretty confusing. I don't tend to pay attention to it much because everything else is so damn amazing. I've been enjoying this game so much although I've had to look up some things online a few times, but not often. 8/10 experience so far

this was the first Dark Souls game I played... didn't play Bloodborne either. And this game is awesome. thanks to a few tutorials online, I don't die nearly as much.. ha ha.. but even dying doesn't kill my joy, this game is spectacular. As a noob... I got abused, but I've learned the art of backstabs and trying to figure out weapon upgrading has been great. Buy ! Buy! Buy! *if you lack the hand eye coordination to be great at games... stay away from this game and play The Sims*

Bloodborne and Nioh are awesome. I played Dark Souls 1 and didn't like it but Dark Souls 2 and 3 look freaking awesome.
I don't have great coordiation for games like overwatch, etc., but I still love ds3 and am on NG+3 right now. Because of the stamina system smart gameplay and good strategy is rewarded just as much as fast reaction time. Otherwise, though, your review is spot on. And if you do suck . . . then FUCKING GIT GUD

I've been a fan of these games since King's Field back in the day. I'm about 35 hours into DS III and I think it's pretty freaking good. Some of the enemy designs are just out of this world, with some real standouts near the end of the game. The level design is structurally wonderful, with areas that feel very different from one another, from sprawling to linear. I'm disappointed that they couldn't get this to 60fps on PS4, but the level of graphical detail kinda justifies it.
The boss soundtrack is amazing, with multiple phases of the music to go with the multi-phase bosses. Nothing will ever beat the sheer weirdness of the Demon's Souls soundtrack, but this is the best of the Dark Souls ones for sure.
I'm with the author here, I think removing the armor upgrading system is addition by subtraction, I never liked it. Magic isn't fixed - I feel like they've been nerfing magic too much to compensate for the Demon's Souls Broken Poison Cloud of Death. Also, too many great-looking Fashion Souls unique weapons pale in comparison to a normal broadsword or estoc in the upgrade path yet again, making PvP look boring... again. Not fixed. And holy crap, that difficulty spike at Irythyll is nuts.
Overall, I love it, weird problems and all. Praise the soup!

Today is the day Elden Ring releases. I am watching this video 5 years after its release and Ive purchased this game on Xbox and PC. I have played a couple hundred hours and I love the game. I'd consider myself a hardcore fan, and your review is spot on. Even though nothing can top the fun of playing DS1 for me, I was still really, really happy with this game. In the face of the mass-produced triple-A title crap we usually hear about nowadays, this game is really unique and well done! I played every souls game since demon souls but Ever since Bloodborne I can't play anymore souls games. The reason is because I love the style of bloodborne and how it leaned toward horror than anything. The transforming weapons were freaking badass and the armor.
Dark souls seems like childs play in terms of looks. Though, I can see myself playing dark souls 3 in the future. Just not now lol.

So I’ve never played dark souls or any other games from the series until my friend got me hooked on it after he talked about and worshiped this game for a few months. The only reason why I have the game is because he bought it for me and as soon as I saw the first cutscene I was completely hooked. I’ve never played a game this challenging or this engaging and now I’m trying to learn as much as I possibly can about it because of how intriguing it is the real ones will help you find things to connect with you and make things interesting.

Dark souls 3 was my first souls game I ever played. It was probably my first difficult game ever. I really got into it and have beat it at least 5 times. I then went on the Dark souls 1 and loved the level design and bosses but I didn't like the final boss and part of the story was confusing. I think Dark souls 2 gets more hate than it deserves, most likely because it is the most different of the games. It feels more fast and less dark and gory. I didn't enjoy the confusing level designs but I like the difficulty of the bosses and the enemies that spawned.
20 hours into this game I'm loving it.

I actually got dark souls 3 but im still waiting to play it. This is my first FromSoft game and im excited to boot it up. It was this vs elden ring but it was cheaper so i went with this. I intend to play all souls games and elden ring in near future. Maybe even every FromSoft game if I can do that.
The similarities between Dark Souls 1 and 3 are amazing and I definitely think that they were for the better. I cant stop playing this game and im already halfway through my second playthrough
I really like that the two games you mentioned has a hub area, ds2 was missing a hub area, so I always felt pretty alone in that game.

Don't be discouraged by the difficulty. It's one of those games where, when you finally manage to overcome the challenge, it feels so amazing and totally worth it. If you never EVER played a game like this, I suggest picking Knight too though. Pretty much the newbie class of the game.

Dark souls 3 is absolutely amazing. As a hard core souls series fan it seems like they combined the best elements of every souls game including demon's souls. It is definitely the hardest souls game yet but hardly ever feels unfair. The lag in pvp is far better than it was in dark souls or even dark souls 2. All in all this is really shaping up to be one of my favorite games

The main gripe I have with DS3 is the linearity of it. There's very little backtracking, it's very straightforward: explore new area, look for items, passageways, and bonfires, fight boss. New area. And so on and so forth. I really loved how the areas in DS1 were so intertwined, and this seemed to recede with DS2 but in this game it's flat out gone thus far in my play through. You go from area to area in a straight line starting at firelink. Once you find all the items in an area and fight the boss, there's no point in going back. I just got to the Ithyic (or however you spell it) castle.
This is why DS1 will always be my favorite.
I hope this opinion has changed, as there's clearly a bunch of backtracking later on.

I'm currently playing this on x1 and I'm really liking it! Its probably the best game as a ds type game I've played in a while and it does not disappointed. The way the game plays is perfect and the difficulty is great. Everytime you get through a boss and enter a new area is refreshing and you feel acconplished when you do so. The frame rate is fine in my opinion on x1 and its a lot of fun. I always seem to get a refreshing feeling when i do fight a new enemy cause they are more agressive and try to find away against my play style which is nice. I'm glad you cant just use magic to find your way around the enemy because now FP come into play and you need to use it in more useful ways. I'd rate this game a 9/10. the only way it would be a 10 is if they had more types of weapons but they have plenty of game to keep any ds fan satisfied!!
This is my first dark souls game. Bought the game 3 months ago, after a couple of times died to Gundyr I finally beat it. Then got decimated by the Katana guy, after 30 tries I finally beat it. Then head to Lothric, and stuck at fighting the knights. I stopped playing it because I was getting rekt by those knights. After 2 months, I finally decided to go at it again. Now I'm at the Abyss Watchers, and I'm still learning their patterns. I love boss fights if it's 1 v 1, I fkng hate it when multiple smaller enemies come charging at you and get decimated.

***** Nope, they're just not completely and utterly broken! To the point it was that upgrading INT and catalysts actually did not add to your damage. Now they just function as they should.
Also Miracles have been tweeked so that they do more damage the closer you are to your target.Risk/reward balancing.

I decided to watch this video after reaching 800 hours in DS3. Worth it.
The souls games, for a lazy gamer like me, were really frustrating and challenging at first, but I have just completed DSIII and it is by far the best gaming experience I've ever had. This game is a stunning achievement. Like all things that are worth learning, like driving, or playing the guitar for example, they are really tough at first but the rewards are infinitely more satisfying in the long run.
I've been looking for something new to play for my XBox One and as soon as I saw the trailer for DS3 I was hooked. I cannot wait to play this game. I love a challenging game so hopefully this makes me earn it with each and every boss battle

I personal like both games, ds2 for the game play and how they improved upon combat but one for nostalgia reasons and the fact the world felt "lived in" where you could see other areas like how you could kinda see undead burg from darkroot basin, dark souls 2 if you looked into the distant on places like harvest valley you saw a horizon made of pixels, but both games are amazing.

I have a medicore PC. Picked this up and am surprised how well it's been running. The only lag i've ever had was when i first spawn in other than that it's amazing. Made it to Irithyll of the Boreal Valley and started to slow down might start playing again sometime not sure. But the 23 hours it has given me have been filled with ups and downs and it's great. I remember when I thought the high wall of lothric was challenging and now I look back and laugh.

This game is probably one of the best I've played in a long time. Every bug he has mentioned has been fixed, I've experienced zero game breaking glitches into my 17 hour playthrough(I don't even think I'm halfway done yet). There is SO MUCH CONTENT and so much to learn. This is my first dark souls game and I fucking love it. Although I was stuck on one boss for many hours I learned his patterns and I learned how to dodge attacks effectively. So it wasn't a huge waste of time. Lore wise- it's pretty confusing. I don't tend to pay attention to it much because everything else is so damn amazing. I've been enjoying this game so much although I've had to look up some things online a few times, but not often. 8/10 experience so far
