My irithyll straight sword with frost damage is carrying me through everything till now ( all 3 early souls of cinders and dnacers done ) ... pretty muchh many of the enemies and bosses are so weak to frostbite 😂

I just love the Irithyll Straight Sword, even though it is somewhat a hassle to gather resources for its upgrade :) ... not a powerhouse with actual dmg, but once the frostbite effect kicks in, oh boy :D ... for the same reason I love Vordt's Great Hammer - slow AF, but once it lands, it CRUSHES, it staggers even a freakin giant crab :), plus it looks superbadass :)))

The frost effect is wrecking guys in pvp for me. Only the weird weapon dudes are competitive, all great swords are Ez picking with frost dps and dark pyromancy

Ik it probably sucks, but I adore the Farron Greatsword. It does solid damage, the weapon art is both really cool and pretty good against shielded enemies in PVE, and it's used by the Abyss Watchers, my favourite lord (lords?) of cinder.
Dude, I rarely use the Farron Greatsword, but when I do, I love to use that little slide attack where you swing both the sword and knife? So satisfying to hit.
I adore this weapon, my only problem is the last swing on the 2 handed moveset takes a while to do and misses a lot

Maybe it’s not the most exciting but I love the executioners greatsword. So nice to get back fp on each kill in pve
Same actually, it have really decent damage too, so in pve it's really good (and that avoid having to split estus too much since i don't use my fp that much)
For most of my run I used the Curved Exile Greatsword and then used a Heavy Gem on it. Knowing nothing about the weapons in DS3 beforehand, I'm impressed I managed to pick such a good choice on my first playthrough.

I actually love the exile greatsword. I had like 2 playthroughs with it. My second weapon was sunlight straight sword. I would do the weapon art for the straight sword, switch to my greatsword, put lightning damage on it, and I would have the lightning ring on as well. I'm not saying it is the best in the game, but I really enjoyed using it, it looks pretty cool too.

Standard Torch is the best weapon. It has shitty damage, no stunlock, can't plunge attack, can't deal criticals, shitty range and a horrible moveset. What more can you ask for?

I think the butchers knife is such an underrated weapon. It’s attack speed is great, it scales off of strength at an A level and it’s a great early find for first time players.

The simple great axe is still on the top of my list. Fantastic (poise)damage, and the twohanded roll attack, followed by R1, can be followed by a charged R2 against plenty of bosses. Nameless King for instance, who kinda gets bullied by this thing.
I have so many more weapons to try out now, really cool and helpful to see how a lot of these other weapons are used

Ludwig the holy blade too
One weapon that I’ve kinda been stuck with for some time now is the Drakeblood Greatsword. It’s a very competent weapon that can deal both Lightning and Magic damage. And can still be buffed with infusions, so you can add a third element on top of it already. And it requires very minimal strength and dex to wield.
It deals SO much damage, and it’s versatile enough to be usable by any player. And it works exceptionally well on players who prioritize Intelligence and Faith. Like I did.
Edit: I recommend using Dark Gem on this thing since a lot of bosses are resistant to Fire.

However, i would like to mention Lorian's greatsword. It is one of the mightiest weapons in high NG+many. It is truly effective even for a greatsword. And its flames, which can be going on forever with use of simpleton shield, are truly badass!

It's made even better if you use resins, the DPS will be great! oh yeah, also the stuff you mentioned... anyway, I love it so much, it makes PVP pretty easy (just not when you are fighting actually good players).
I hope newer players don't try to limit themselves by only using weapons highly rated by the community, it's still more fun experimenting and finding your own favorite weapon on first playthrough - I beat most of the enemies in my first using the great club because I like the moveset + big damage with strenght build + affordable reinforcement materials.

I did my 1st run with the hollowslayer GS. I love the 4 hits combo when the character swings the blade instead of smashing it up and down. You feel in total control and the weapon art is simple but very usefull imo
I fell in love with it cause i used straight swords before but when i got the Hollowslayer GS u loved it and it had the ss standard skill it was just awsome

@@bsherwood4872 ikr I just made a bleed build (with 2 bleed weapons rn no backup oops) and the main weapon I like to use is the warden blades because I think they're so cool and they're useful, but I always find myself switching to my bandit knife with a weapon skill shield. I've been breezing through the game

Quoc Hung Tran I’m a skilled player that has mastered dark souls 1, 2 and 3. I just beat 3 on SL 39. Bleed breaks the game if you know what your doing. Partying and stabbing doesn’t do shit for bleed buildup. Luck affects build bleed buildup. At luck 40 with a blood gem and leveled up bandit knife the fast swinging causes a bleed buildup to sometimes do over 1000 damage. For instance in grand archives when I enter and hit the crystal boss I can kill it in about 6-7 hits before it even goes into the ground to go to the upper level.

All Dark Souls games have exploits that become very obvious once you know the game well enough.
Dark Souls 1's Black Knight's Halberd was ridiculous. The base damage is very high, it's a special weapon so no embers are required to upgrade it and it can be acquired very early.
Dark Souls 2's Rapier and Twinblade were overpowered because of their crazy-quick movesets which meant they were most efficient in conjuction with flat buffs like crystal magic weapon or darkmoon blade.
The most gamebreaking stuff in Dark Souls is always the spells though.
Dark Souls 1's Dark Bead could kill anything in 2 hits even on ng+7.
Dark Souls 2's Affinity was equally crazy.
If you just keep stacking things on top of one another you get astronomically overpowered. For example in Dark Souls 1: rtsr + a good weapon + darkmoon blade + power within + dragon roar + trident, etc. You can just keep stacking more and more buffs until the game breaks.
I think that the Dragonslayer sword-spear is also a remarkable one. God, I love its moveset, and despite the weapon art is pretty slow, it's just an op lightning which also buffs the weapon a lot
On Ng+ it really made most enemies extremely easy to kill.

Astora GSword looks a lot like Disney’s depiction of Excalibur in “The Sword in the Stone”.
I started out with the uchigatana when I got it from the Sword Master early. However, I ran into issues using it once I hit the Cathedral of the Deep and Farron Keep. I ended up swapping to the Hollowslayer Greatsword when tackling the Abyss Watchers and I immediately loved it. I'd forgotten about its 20% bonus damage against hollows (I knew it did it when I made the weapon, but I'd forgotten between making it and using it) until I looked it up again after the Deacons of the Deep. I knew that boss was easy, but I surprised by just how easy it was. The game considers them hollow too, so yay for the extra damage against an already easy boss. I plan on grabbing the Onikiri and Ubadachi pair when I make it through the Grand Archives and I'm likely to use them against Friede because she's so damn fast.

Great video, great list. For a video from 2017 it does a great job at accurately depicting weapons throughout most of the life cycle of the game. Every weapon that got a spot on this list is iconic. Understandably some information is a little dated, specifically, no mentions of dark or chaos infusions in which have been proven to be fantastic in high lvl pvp. Also not even a mention of the murky hand scythe, perhaps that weapon wasn't 'discovered' yet as of this video. There's a couple more iconic weapons that imo deserve at least an honorable mention, such as gundyr's halberd, great club, four pronged plow and pontiff knight curved sword.
I was just checking out Anri's Straight Sword it's actually disgusting how much damage that weapon actually does

In my opinion a hollow astora straight sword is better.
The problem with Anri's is that it scales with luck like a hollow weapon, but doesn't provide +5 luck when used. I've found the regular astora straight sword does more damage at 40 str, 40 dex, 30 luck (+5 from the sword, +5 from an offhand hollow item)

And if you play it because you raise luck In end end game once you have luck strength and dex at 99 you can switch to the long sword infused with hollow for the highest dps in the game
@@KPalmTheWise the thing about anris is that you get 40/40 Lothric straight sword damage with just 40 luck. Also 40/40/40 str fth luck on anri is better than hollow astora 40/40/40 str/dex/luck.
You aren't supposed to level up all these Stats too with anris, and Lothric sword on hollow at that kind of investment beats both

I chose the claymore for my first play through. With a strength build it worked out great. The requirements are low and it’s right at the beginning of the game. I love the claymore. *update, played using the fume ultra great sword. It’s OP for sure
Yeah i also used a lighting infused claymore on my first run which was really viable
i just started DS3 coming over from Dark souls remastered and i used the black knight halberd to smash EVERYTHING in that game and i don’t know what weapon to use , any recommendations?

@@mappedrapped7201 thats the thing about alot of items and weapons In dark souls atleast I thunk as a non expert. Its not clear which are good or bad or even whether the one you're currently using is better or worse than another one you have in your inventory lol OK this ones 100 physical damage + 15 and this ones 130 physical damage and - 15 but has a number next to a symbol there and the other one doesn't... aaaand I haven't got a clue what any of this crap means. Shields are even more confusing! It has damage stats but I have no offensive moves I can do with it?
@@1invag Shields can actually attack, definitely when 2-handed, and possibly when right handed/dual wielding. Can't remember for sure on the dual/right hand.
Claymore is better. Longer, more damage and better stun lock.

I personally love the Farron Greatsword. Its moveset captivated me on my first playthrough and no other weapon seems so reliable against the smaller enemies in the game. Admittedly it struggles against bosses because they're so fast and it is bad in PvP because every attack it has is very telegraphed, but I still found it very useful and fun. It feels very cool to spin and take down a crowd of enemies.

@@justingray8161 the spinning attack animation save me in champion gundry since most of his attack cannot reach you ( Unless it's a kick, slam or the combo ) when you in thr animation, because of that weapon i only died to champion about 4 times.

I'm typing this before watching the vid but my favorite weapon is the Crow Quills. I love having good damage up close and a pretty decent range poke that you can move forward or backwards while moving. It makes the weapon extremely versatile in my eyes and so far I love it.

I just got Farron's GS and the moveset looks amazing. I am still using a Heavy Greataxe. I just love my axe. I'm the axe man, the lumberjack of souls.

I'm surprised the Farron GS wasn't on here, it's special attacks each literally have poise points AND I-Frame points during the moves, each one keeping your stance and hitbox low as well as being executable without FP consumption, ON TOP OF THAT you can even change when certain special attacks happen by throwing a regular light. It's regular roll attack is also a very quick thrust that comes out quickly and any moves involving the dagger seem to have ALOT of stagger to them.
Low damage ceiling, unbuffable and a free parry. It has an extra niche that lets you use Weapon Skill WA shields and still have a parry, but against a savvy player that brings some parry tool or knows how to backstab the WA first attack in neutral it can feel underwhelming, plus its lower damage makes it bad at trading compared to other UGSes. Astora GS sadly does everything except having a parry whilst also having a WA better (I love my Farron GS though).

I love the regular greatsword found in farron keep it makes your character look cool while it is still a good weapon found right before the abyss watchers boss fight.
