Fifty years ago enjoyed a great school holiday (as a teacher) staying in Bray. Main memories the hotel on the Prom (Cois Farrige), climbing Bray Head, train rides to Dublin and Greystones, Guiness Brewery, Glendalough, Avoca, Brittas Bay, and warming Irish Coffees as a night cap. This video brings it back. Thanks.
Very good video. I see it was made at high tide, so the coastline appears much better. At low tide, only the passengers looking out from the sides would see the water. Also the weather was perfect - too sunny can cause glare and marks on the windscreen. Too cloudy makes everything look dark and gloomy.
Around 1:58:00 on the tracks from Greystones to Bray, I noticed two extra rails between the driving rails, ending in a sort of parenthesis shape. Just today I saw the same thing on the northbound platform at Grand Canal Dock. There was some kind of electrical grounding cable attaching one section to another. What is the function of those rails -- is it for detecting via an electric circuit that a train has passed from one section into another?
They have nothing to do with signalling. They are known as "gathering rails" and are to keep a train running in line with the track in the event of a derailment. Whilst running line derailments are very rare, gathering rails are used where the consequences would be severe, such as the cliff edge on Bray Head. From looking at the video, I suspect that their purpose at GCD is to protect the very tall historic brick structure which is very close to the line. The electrical cables are just to ensure they are electrically bonded to the running rails which are used to carry return traction current on the electrified lines used by DART.
did you just go and ask the driver if you could record it or did you have to get permission first? i was thinking of recording timelapses on some of the irish trains and uploading them to mapillary

I did get permission from Irish Rail. Maybe you should conctact media press office, they could help you.

But love being now able ,are easy to get in the driving seat. Now online in TH-cam. Love it. North dubliner. All my life on various trains throught the city and around Ireland. I love my country. So many stations closed on this line since I was a boy Killrane, Macmine Junction, Ferns, Camolin, Inch, Woodenbridge, Avoca. Gone but not forgotten.

#BrilliantVisuals
Great video, I love this line, I am so happy to see an up to date cab ride on it!! Thank you so much for sharing!
Superb video !
Thank you very much, Mateusz. What a wonderful, romantic seaside train ride - I did not even miss the sound.
I was told to record without audio...
@ :(
There is no sound. The sounds of the train are missing. That is half the experience of watching these train cab views from many different countries.
Yeah, I completely agree with you; however, I wasn't allowed to record any sound.
i still travel that route to gorey the scenery is wonderful now and again
A very nice route. I like this video.
Such a beautiful line but the speed restrictions especially in south Dublin are a total disaster
Where is the sound? 🤔
I was not permitted to record any audio.
This is brilliant - I want more of this 😍 I'd love to know what all the signs mean, I know the speed sign but that's all I know 😔
Witam zawsze klasa arcydzieło łapka w niebo👍🎇🎆✨🏆🤴🥇 i do kolejnego pozdrawiam
Piękne widoki

Bardzo klimatyczna trasa.
Thumbs up. Refreshing to look at the video without having to endure pointless noise. Someone in Irish Rail made a good decision.

@@PeterCDub thanks for those insights!

Do you have any idea of a train going to those tracks on the left hand side, or is it just for construction?
That's the line to Limerick. However train passenger service was closed in 2010 between Waterford and Rosslare.
Any chance of doing Cork to Dublin full cab view
Well, I could try it next year, but I can't promise anything.
Kind Regards
Super video!
Thanks ; )
Why does it pass so slowly through Rosslare Sland? I mean, that is almost walking slow.
Due to the speed limit I reckon.
Why is this silent? Why not the engine noise? Or some Jimi Hendrix?
Irish Rail didn't agree for recording any sound.
Thank God there was no awful irrelevant "music".
Great vid! Jesus I wonder who those 2 guys are @1:57:25 on the right cliff! And where are they going?!
The probably were hiking or something ^^
I live in Dublin.
This looks like an operational nightmare...
It kind of all comes together once you figure out the trackside signage etc. A tiny bit more foolproof than you'd expect it to be.
14:00 if someone can tell me, what's that town?
Wexford :)
@ Dziękuję bardzo :)
Go raibh maith agát!... ☘️
( Thank U!)
Appears calming due to the muted colors and diffused light. I wonder if what's calming in small doses might become depressing after a while.
Then people find excitement and grow tired of that. Heaven to earth, back and forth, forever and ever...
Are the speeds in miles or kilometres per hour? I know Ireland uses km's on its roads, so I would imagine the railways would also.
Rail speed limits are still in miles. They never converted them to kilometres, for a closed system there wouldn't really be any benefit.
Silence doesn’t work for me :(
Elegansio😍
shame there wasnt the reverse trip.but very good
Maybe one day though! Kind Regards!
Why aren’t they electrifying their railways???

Seems like I have travelled this route before also. Is this recently uploaded video a repeat?
