New Urban Carry G2 Review | Just My Honest opinions

  • ** NOTE ** The company altered its list and now claims the SR9c fits in the "smaller" Lieutenant size. So much for a holster that is supposed to ride below the belt and bend with your leg...
    I was contacted by Urban Carry or perhaps a marketing company they hired? Anyway, they offered to send me the New Urban Carry G2 version for review. I was an original purchaser of the first Urban Carry Holster and frankly it didn't work for me. So I was surprised to see the email. But with high hopes i accepted the offer. This vid is my honest opinions on this latest generation of holster as it pertains to my body type...

    The trick is to use a smaller more "concealable" firearm. I'd say it's completely unreasonable, especially for a big guy, to expect to conceal a full sized pistol in this way. Plus, those "tactical" style pants utilize a fabric with almost no elasticity, so I'm not surprised they bunched the way they did. There are a number of other TH-cam reviews that show this holster works as advertised when it is used with less extreme expectations. As I suggested, try a more compact pistol and more comfortable pants. Thanks for posting!

    • @TheRealCobraBurnout
      @TheRealCobraBurnout  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, like I said. I asked for a holster for my LCP I was sent a large one for my SR9c as shown in the vid. And with the original I used different style pants...same results..What size holster and gun combo are you running?

    • @irishquad
      @irishquad 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not since I broke my neck, I'm paralyzed and can't even hold a gun anymore. I just enjoy watching these videos to imagine what I would be carrying if things were different. I apologize for giving the impression that I was sharing anything more than my unqualified opinion.
      Have you tried the G2 with different pants and a more compact pistol?
      I do think Urban Carry should include that this holster is not meant to conceal full sized firearms in their advertisements.

      I'm sorry to hear about your injuries Sir! Injured my neck and lower back while on Active duty but consider myself lucky. Repairs made with artificial disk and spinal fusion. IN pain every day with some nerve issues yes..BUT I count my blessing and I will pray for you to be strong.
      As for the These holsters are sized per gun size. So my smaller pistols will not work in the size sent. Yes they fit but you cannot draw them out of the holster pouch. I did try with my looser fitting jeans. Still bulges bad and the big problem with sitting is that shank on the back side of the hook. It is too much and hits me right where I 'bend'. I've watched the vid from the company (and keep in mind they sent me this one to test). They show the 'larger' guy sit but its an awkward quick sit. No way from my experience that its comfortable. Now, like I state in my vid and even on my vid for the first generation..maybe it works better for Skinner people. Something I am not anymore.
      thank you for commenting Sir

      Thank you for the prayers, they are much appreciated, I'll do the same for you.
      I see what you mean now, I think they definitely should stop advertising this as good for all body and pistol types.
      Take care!

    I bought a G2 for my Glock G19 w/Streamlight TLR-1. The app sized me as a G2 Colonel/Laser (brown.) I worked the leather a lot to soften it up with no luck. It seemed to catch at the heel of magazine. I called UC support an the guy I spoke with said he had a G2 with the same model Glock but no light in the smaller Captain size. He offered some hints which I tried. I decided to lose the light and ordered a G2 Captain in black.
    Night and day as far as the difference. It worked exactly as advertised. I'm right handed and decided to try switching it to my left side as a cross draw. That worked better as I have some difficulty with my left wrist (which has been broken a couple times. ) It's a better draw for me as I can grip my belt with my right hand in case I need to nudge it out a bit as I pull up with the left. That puts the barrel/slide running down the top of my left thigh and is totally comfortable sitting or standing. I'm seated and wearing it as I type this.
    If I had to go with my first impression, this would be a non-starter. After working with the support staff, I found the solution. The slide must be as close as possible to the stitched seam for this to work. I picked that up from the video.
    BONUS: Even though I had the G2 Colonel for over 3 months, they agreed to exchange it for a second G2 in brown. No pressure, no problem. Great customer service as they seem to really be focused on a workable solution.
    Suggestion: If someone starts to give you some static about the extra print through that some experience just tell them "My eyes are up here" and gesture towards your eyes.
    I don't think that anything bigger than the Captain size would work for me if for no other reason than my body type.

    An N82 clipped inside my boot carrying an LC9 is the best carry I have found. Works all year round, is not uncomfortable, is easy to put on, and undetectable. Just takes some practice getting the gun out.

    I purchased the "Lieutenant" for my son, he carries a SIG P239. He hasn't quite decided whether he likes it or not, but my daughter has a S&W 637CT, and she is excited to try-it-out. It works great for my S&W Model 36...I never carried with an inside-the-pants holster. I takes some practice to convert after 45+ years of belted holster concealment. Very nice product, and excellent quality.

    I will say this, I bought the G2 and I hated it for a few weeks! ... The key is to wear it and work in the leather to conform to your own body style! It takes time and patience but this is the best holster I've ever owned! I've been wearing it for almost a year now. I was extremely unsatisfied initially when I first got it. Honestly It took me about 3-4 weeks of wearing it for the leather to form and stretch out. After going through all of that, this is the best holster I've ever purchased!

    I was thinking about buying one of the new holsters but I will not order after seeing this video. I have already bought one of the original holsters and it just set here on the shelf with some of my other holsters. I bought a S&W victory 22 and put a Red dot sight on it. I used the original Urban carry holster and made a holster for my new gun. Works great. As far as the urban carry I am not impressed.

  • @williamkerner
    @williamkerner 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like mine. It is a deep concealed holster, you have to give the draw another 1-2 seconds. I also find that you have to use the right technique, when I pull it up with my left hand I've inserted my right thumb and pulled my pants waist band away from my body, this allows the holster to come out much better. I use my single stack 9 mm, S&W shield. I also find that this works better for looser style pants, like my dockers "relaxed fit".

  • @mschoenfuss5738
    @mschoenfuss5738 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I absolutely love mine. I'm 6'4" and 240 lbs. and use this with my glock 36. Very comfortable. Very smooth draw.
    I don't usually wear 2 shirts. With mine I don't even have to use a belt with the g2. The clip is so strong it clips snugly to the pants OR shorts.
    I noticed yours prints a lot. Mine does not at all. Obviously your pistol is more bulky. The new magnet also holds my glock in place fully loaded.
    Anyways for what I wanted it for the g2 is awesome! 10/10!

    I carry a G43 extended Magazine 8+1 in mine. It works very well because.. I am a service plumber in a big city, and I have to move every which way when working. I can either carry a shoulder holster and keep a hoodie on all the time or keep my piece locked in the truck. That would be a pain to deal with. For my size G it works. I wear 33 pants and have not upsized. I don't really care what people think is bulging from my pocket as most city dwellers have no idea what printing is anyway, but they certainly know what the butt of a pistol looks like and that would not be good. This just occurred to me but it is called Urban Carry and maybe for a reason. I have a box full of IWB holsters that either suck or can be used if I want to wear a long flannel. I am not skinny by any means and can draw from this holster in a driving position with seat belt on and that is a big deal to me. Agreed this may not work for everyone but don't write this off as a gimmick or too difficult to deal with because it's not. If you want to carry a 17 then it may not be the thing you want, even a 19 may be a bit much but for what I am carrying its the best I have come across. I also have the holster for the car which velcro to the console. That works well in my wifes car but not in mine. Thats my take and I'm sticking to it.

    II bought 40 inch relaxed fit jeans instead of 38s regular . I use a 1 1/4 leather belt and all is well to clip on and roll comfortably upward when sitting down, drawing, comfort, etc. My suggestion is they add a leather tab to connect to suspenders for those who do use them, this way heavier folks could wear the holster asnd not be evident, uncomfortable, etc. Otherwise you will have to rely on your urban carry with the belt to hold your pants up , and hopefully, you are not constantly pulling them up.

    I'm glad you were honest about the problems you had despite being able to test it virtually for free. It's also nice that the company was willing to risk having you try it out-again. I'm sure the right body type could make it work and it would be comfortable. It looks like it's made from quality materials and the company wants to correct any problems people have but the truth is that no single holster can satisfy every user. I've got a box of holsters to remind myself of that. Nice review.

It is made of quality materials and construction is great. The design just wasn't good for my fat body type. It may work well for others. At least I could and actually did correctly draw my firearm unlike one vid I say that was a blatant suck up vid because he got the holster for free. Anyway, thank you again.

    I got the Lieutenant today and is works better for a smaller gun. I can sit with no problem. I don't know if I would want to wear it all day, since I'm over weight. I think this would work better for guys who are not over weight. The Lieutenant does not have that huge area surrounding the clip. One drawback, if you are wearing it sitting in your car, I can not see pulling your gun out while you are sitting.

    I've been skeptical of it because it seemed that, if your belt is tight enough to support the gun/holster combo, it's too tight to draw past the belt. From what I saw here, that's not too far from reality.

  • @gregh.2583
    @gregh.2583 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had the exact same issue with the G2 and my XDs. I like the leather, the magnets and the metal belt clip but as you said the clip bracket extends down so far it pushes against the handle of the gun. I could not sit down with the holster in the front. The metal bracket prevents the holster from bending that way. Either the holster needs to be deeper or the clip shortened. I contacted Urban Carry and they are swapping it out for a first generation one. It does not use the metal belt clip but instead uses leather loops. I'll send an update once I get it in the mail.
    -Glad to see I'm not the only one that had issues with the new G2

  • @HarryHeck2020
    @HarryHeck2020 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I bought this one and I think it works well... You will have problems if you put the pistol straight in the holster. You have to smash it at an angle so the flap covers the grips completely and let the leather break to that weapon, this is not a multi-weapon holster. You have to wear it for 5x24 hours so the sharp edges wrap around your leg and don't catch when you sit or walk. You will also want a heavy duty belt, one of the 5 dollar jobs at walmort will not cut it.
    To be fair I am slim and fit (which is why other holsters print easily on me) but I still think that 90% of this reviewers issues were with how the pistol was seated in the holster.
    So far the only problem I have is reholstering takes lots of practice, two hands and a bunch of focus. So practicing the draw takes 10 times longer than other holsters. But that's not really a large sacrifice compared to how well this holster frees you up once properly seated and broke in.

    Another thing I noticed. After you draw, you got all that leather outside your pants that looks like it wouldn't easily go back in, so -- you enter the firefight with the holster flapping around.

    I had this exact same impression. I'm a solid 145 this thing went down to my knees and was extremely noticeable. So much for "conceal", I tried cargo pants even with a gun belt. I'm going to have to return it after only having it for a solid hour.

    The belt clip sits right on top of the handle of the gun so it's not going to flex even if the clip was shorter. My jeans slip over the holster as I sit or bend. The reviewers pants are catching the bottom edge, which will soften up with time.
    I'm not quite sure if this holster works for me but I don't have the sitting/bending problems as the reviewer and I'm using a full size 9mm. I'm sitting right now while wearing it and practicing the draw. Leather is not broken in yet. I'm going to give this holster a fair shot.
    People have been preaching the appendix carry with normal IWB holster but that is way more uncomfortable on me as the rear of the gun digs right into my gut.

    Definitely not for everybody but has a place in the market. Totally conceals the gun. Rapid deployment of the gun. Probably more comfortable by carrying a smaller gun. No perspiration on your gun. I would try it.

    I have the original version. Agree that the leather was too heavy and stiff, even after a break-in period. It's cumbersome to thread the belt loops and get it aligned where you want it between loops. Once installed, it generally works as advertised, BUT... I find is it only practical with sub-compact single stack weapons. Kahr PM9, Ruger LCP or a Glock 43 work fairly well. Anything larger and it will print and will likely be uncomfortable to wear. As others have shared, it's a good concept but as with most carry solutions, there are compromises to be made.

    I have not seen this in person, however I’m interested in something like this, when I don't want to use a
    regular holster, My question right off hand is are they using rare earth magnets (Neodymium Magnet) as they are small and strong, this could help make the product thinner, but does not look like they are thin, also maybe if they made this out of a thinner fabric rather than leather to keep it flexible and soft, and lastly Maybe it would make sense to add two points of contact for mounting the product to your belt, this may also keep some of the bulk away from the spot where the gun is drawn to the surface for deployment.

    YOU NEED TO ADD OIL TO THE LEATHER (I USED COCONUT OIL) THEN FORM THE HOLSTER TO THE SHAPE OF YOUR GUN. i COVERED MY GUN WITH SARAN WRAP TO PROTECT IT DURING FORMING. ONCE THE HOLSTER FITS THE GUN IT WILL WORK MUCH BETTER. iTS PERFECT FOR THE GLOCK 43.

    I have a captain now I can't get to work with my Canik TP9SF but works great with the smaller SCCY CPX 2. The problem is the TP9SF/SA grip sticks beyond the leather and gets caught on the belt on the way up.

  • @Arnoldreborn
    @Arnoldreborn 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The gen 1 works for me. To be honest all the "improvements" to the gen 2 are not appealing. Massive magnet right at pocket level? Doesn't sound good. A small gun and a skinny body seem to be the best combo.

      I had the same issue with my G2 and my XDs. The clip would not let me sit or bend forward. They are swapping me my G2 for a first generation urban carry. I think the leather loops will work much better.

    • @gregh.2583
      @gregh.2583 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Update: I received my G1 holster and I love it. I can actually sit down and I print less. It gives you more flexibility on where you position on your belt. Now, to be fair, the magnets and nicer leather I miss from the G2, but what good is it when you cant comfortably wear it. Now if they would only make the G2 with the leather belt loops!

    They should still put a pouch, but make it a pouch meant to hold contact information if found. Not that anyone would leave it somewhere, but you know, it would be better for a good neighbor to yell at you because their kid found it in the restroom than for police to come knocking on your door after an expensive-to-taxpayer investigation found the gun to be yours.

  • @fredcdobbs162

    Noobie speaking here;-)
    Now I am searching for a good concealed holster. The concept i love on this one ...
    I am 5'10" ~160 so not too bad weight wise ... i currently have a basic holster that I can run my belt through for an outside pants carry or clip it for an inside pants carry. Carry a glock 19 ... don't like the smaller guns for lack of capacity and feel ...
    anyway, my current set up prints big time, mainly size of the firearm. I have tried side carry front carry and back carry without too much success ... the back and front conceal ok, but are uncomfortable driving.
    What I am looking for is something that is easy to hide, comfortable sitting and standing, least amount of printing so I can carry at work (since the convertible is a crappy place to leave a gun), able to change in locker room without having it fall all over the place and durable. If not the Urban Carry G2, then what? Also, with the above criteria am I being foolish on any point?

    I wish I had seen this review before I bought this for my BF for Christmas. He has EXACTLY the same problems you described above. Looks awkward as hell, even with a loose pair of pants, is completely uncomfortable to sit down in and catches at the bottom when he does. He carries a P938 (which is a super small single stack) and still couldn't wear this for more than 5 minutes until he gave up. I hope they let me return it...

      I'm one of those guys always buying and searching but here are my favorites to date:
      IWB hybrid: Crossbreed Holster ( I do have an Aliengear on the way to try out so we shall see)
      IWB Kydex: Vedder light tuck Holster
      Pocket carry: Desantis Nemisis ( have heard that the Desantis superfly is even better but I have not tried it yet)
      Pocket carry: Recluse

    If you were carrying a pocket gun it would be fine, but that SR9c looks super uncomfortable in that. I was considering trying one, but I'll stick with the White Hat Holster's hybrid type. The hybrid leather/kydex seem to work the best for everything.
