I had a government job for 18 years where it was illegal to have a firearm in your car. They could search your car if they wanted to. The problem with that is you cannot carry a gun to protect yourself going to or from work or anywhere you may go after work on the way home.

I've owned one of these holsters for almost 6 months now, and I totally agree that it's not meant for large guns. I carry a Smith and Wesson M&P 380 Shield EZ, which is a very good gun considering its size. Get some +P hollow-point rounds in there and you can have a fairly decent amount of stopping power in an easy-to-conceal, easy-to-carry package.
I have found that, while it *is* more difficult to draw when sitting down, it is totally doable -- you just need to *practice.* I personally find that a cross-draw is much easier, so if you don't like cross-drawing, you might have more difficulty than I do trying to draw from this holster while sitting.
But anyway, I'm right-handed, so I keep the gun on my left side. To draw, I lift my shirt with my right hand whilst simultaneously leaning back as far as my seat will allow. Then I yank up *very hard* on the tab at the top of the holster with my left hand whilst simultaneously moving my right hand around, getting it in position to grab the gun when it's cleared the waistband. Then I grab the gun with my right hand and pull it out of the holster. With practice, you can learn how to draw sitting down almost as quickly as you can when you're standing.
(Please don't be stupid -- practice drawing when there's *not* a round in the chamber, ready to fire... Yes, you need to practice with a full magazine so you can get used to the weight of the loaded gun, but at least make sure it won't go off by keeping the safety engaged and ensuring there's not a round in the chamber, just in case you bump the safety to the "off" position while drawing.)
This is the most easily-concealable holster I've ever owned, and I've owned a *lot* of them over the years. None are as comfortable and as well-hidden as this holster, and I cannot recommend it enough. Worth every penny.
Oh -- one more thing. Wear boxer shorts (or at least boxer briefs) underneath your pants. Otherwise that leather is resting on the skin of your leg all day and it gets irritating. At least that's been my experience.

if there is a sign posted, it is a violation of the law. if they took the time to put a no guns clause in the work contract/policy then it's likely there are no gun signs posted. as for Illinois...the list of places you CAN'T carry in Il is so friggin long it probably would have been more efficient to list the places you can...

Shoot, our workplace doesn't have a "No guns" sign, but there's an obscure section in an old version of the employee rule book saying employees can't carry any lethal weapons into the workplace. A former coworker of mine was trying to get me in trouble with HR and Admin. for carrying a pocketknife.

I been looking at this holster for awhile now. Its supposed to be super comfortable but I think it would be perfect for summer carry when i am wearing jean shorts and a T-shirt. Also easier to get it out in a hurry compared to a pocket holster in a pair of jeans. Instead of having to resort to downsizing to kimber micro 9 for extra concealed carry i could probably stick with my Ruger SR40C EDC

I'm glad you mentioned people being responsible for putting their jobs at risk. I don't know of any major employer (i.e. more than a couple dozen employees) that allows carry, concealed or otherwise, on the job, unless the job specifically entails being armed as a guard, courier, etc. It's typically a "Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out." instant termination for even having any ammunition, dud, dummy, snap cap, or otherwise. Carrying on the job secretly is, IMHO, very ill-advised if there's a policy banning any carry where one works. You won't get to draw any unemployment either as it's a "termination for cause" for wrongdoing per employer policy versus being laid off for lack of work causing a reduction in the number of employees or a company bankruptcy, being sold, etc.
My state prohibits employers from banning firearms being stored in one's vehicle parked at work. The thought is that lawful carry would not be possible traveling to and from work if employers prohibited all firearms and ammunition on their property, including in their parking lots.

    • @Sparks52
      @Sparks52 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +John Doe
Nope . . . I'm very clear on "rules" versus "laws" (my state's plus federal laws). Employers can legally have policies that prohibit firearms and ammunition in the workplace. *Some* state laws regarding firearm carry don't allow them to extend this policy to their parking lots. Doesn't apply to US Post Office parking lots because it's federal property and federal law bans firearms in or on USPS property, including their parking lots (same applies to federal courthouses).
Being fired for violating an employer's "no firearms" policy, which is the typical consequence, is a "termination for cause" (violation of company policy or "rules"). That automatically denies any application for state unemployment benefits in every state I've lived in, and it's not just a few. State unemployment offices verify the reason you're now unemployed with the former employer if you apply for unemployment benefits. You can appeal that denial, but you better have very solid evidence that it wasn't "for cause" and plenty of witnesses (or statements from them). Not only do you no longer have an income, you cannot collect unemployment benefits while seeking another job.
Whether or not you choose to comply with your employer's policies (or "rules") is up to you, at the peril of your continued employment.

    About people not seeing guns.
I used to work at the front desk of a busy place where guns weren't allowed. I was trained by security to spot someone carrying a gun. And I spotted them on an infrequent, but fairly regular basis. I'd ask the person if they needed any help or directions and find out where they were going and relay that information to the security desk. Security would send someone up to shadow them and 99/100 times would they would decide the person wasn't a problem and leave them alone.
But, I/we did see them. I wouldn't assume that people don't don't realize you're carrying.

Another company makes a similar holster, but the outside part is actually a spare magazine holder that looks like a glasses case. I carry my backup on my off side with it. Sorry, I don't remember the name, it has worn off mine. I carry using a modified Sneaky Pete holster. Rather than the flap going from inside, over the top and down, mine is reversed, so no one can open the flap unless they know where I hid the latch. It also has a new outside holder for my cell phone, so it does double duty.

I can understand using that for skating, but if I wasn't worried about open carrying I'd use my level 3 safariland. Aint nothin' falling out of that holster.

Um, no. You must not know anything about pickpocketing. The gun in the holster weighs about 20x what a wallet does, and the holster is designed to stay in your pocket for when you draw.

    • @ColonelSandersLite
      @ColonelSandersLite 7 ปีที่แล้ว

No, I actually do. I learned it as a hobby when I was a teenager. Pickpocketing is about misdirection. The weight is largely irrelevant.
Even if weight was relevant, and it's not, my Ruger LCP weighs about twice (mayyyyyyybe 3x) what my fairly typical trifold wallet does when loaded with FMJ. I don't have a quality scale on hand to be more precise, but it's nowhere near 20x. A 1911 might be, but good luck fitting that in your pockets.

Aggregated trespassing can be a possible charge if an employer finds out you are carrying a gun when they have policies against it as an employee. Easy civil consequences(fired) and/or criminal charges. Basically if you know there is an employee/supervisor that doesn't like you and you are caught carrying, who knows if they will follow all the way up to crinimal charges. Getting fired would be the least of your worries.

I've been using an Urban Carry now for the past 4 months... I have the Gen 2 like you, they do offer them in several different sizes for sub compact up to full sized. I've been carrying full sized 6 1/2 inch revolvers in there, and quite comfortably. Depending on how you wear it, it shows off more or less of the holster. It's been proving itself to not only be comfortable, but nobody even seems to notice.
Its even in their own website that these holsters are NOT meant to be worn with tighter jeans and pants. It was designed for somewhat loose fitting and it doesnt print that hard, and when it has printed with me, nobody knows that bulge or print is a gun. It could just as easily be passed off for contents in my pockets or my penis if I felt like being a smart ass. Now to address the whole not being able to draw while sitting down... this is an issue I've encountered with the holster as have many.
I've practiced a retrieval method when sitting down, and its fairly effective, but not as effective as some IWB and OWB holsters which I'd carry in a different position on the belt, but overall, its a fairly minor issue that doesnt take much to work around. I feel the pro's outweigh the cons. And to me, the pro's is deep concealment when worn properly, lack of printing, comfort of carry, ease of drawing and reholstering, and price. Con's are drawing while sitting down, the fact it's not like a kydex shell molded for any specific gun, so its more like a "universal" holster and some guns just wont carry well where others will depending on the size. And the fact it's leather and while you dont "need" to do it, it's highly recommended you massage the leather the loosen it up so it's not so stiff and makes it easier to draw faster. They sell leather treatment oils for that purpose, but I view it as one more thing I got to do to insure reliability.
But, I did all that... and it's been working well. Sometimes I still find myself carrying other IWB holsters but thats because I've already got specific holsters for specific guns, and as mentioned this is more of a universal holster for my large frame autoloaders and revolvers. So if you got a lot of a specific type of gun and want a holster that will likely fit and conceal all of them comfortably this is a good choice. Just ignore their dumb advertisements about moving like the foot steps of a Navy SEAL. What that has to do with anything I dont know...

This holster is perfect for the exec who wears a suit and tie all day. Loose fitting suit pants perfectly conceals this drop-down. In Jeans, I would, however, prefer a more sculpted holster of the "codpiece" variety that would faux the firearm in a formidable yet recognizable manner, that would instantly "guilt trip" anyone who caught themselves overtly staring at "old glory." Do you have a source that can custom-up such a holster to "hang" properly on the chosen leg?
Who said CC can't be fun!

I bought an urban carry holster on your recommendation. The concept is very good. The draw procedure is easy. I've been carrying it for a week now and I think I would like it more if it had two design changes.
First, I bought the cadet size for my Ruger LCP. The pistol fits nicely in the holster, no problem with that. The problem is it doesn't hang low enough. The urban carry website tells me that if this is the case, then I should wear my pants lower. I'm sorry, but that's not the right answer. I'm not a teenaged hoodlum that wears his pants below the crotch. I'm not going to change how I wear my pants. They're plenty loose enough, their other requirement.
The problem is it's just barely tolerable when I sit down and terrible if I need to tie my shoes. It's not painful, just very restricting. Another three inches lower and it would fit very nicely.
The second problem is that the flap over the belt is just too obvious. it doesn't lay flat and it's too too too too big. It's only real purpose is to be a handle, so I would rather it be softer and smaller. I'd almost (but not quite) would prefer a rope to that big flap of leather. As it is, I feel like I need to keep my shirt untucked to hide the flap. That's not bad, but it could be better.
My conclusion is that the urban carry is a great idea, I think it just needs a bit more tweaking to fit me.

More than one of us sent emails to the State Attorney General concerning this. Guess what ? The state changed it's tune very quick. I am in a relatively safe office environment with few people coming and going. When you are traveling and constantly encountering new people and environments and people, taking the risk of making the boss angry is much more justified. The Enterprise crew of Star Trek was on a mission of peace but they still carried side arms when on away missions. Your situation makes sense.
I am never unarmed in my high murder rate city with the exception of work. While it is a safer environment, that is not enough to justify not carrying. Being black balled from my field is enough for me. You might be able to walk away from your job if you wish. I'm lucky that I got this one with my little experience. I don't think I could be lucky enough to do it again soon.
