I live in California and my parents were both originally from Mexico. I have cousins (Two females, who are sisters) and they both have daughters who are about to graduate from Dentistry school also, and I can tell you first hand, there is NOTHING cheap about the learning process, equipment, hygiene, ethics, etc

I am a mexican living in the US. About 6 years ago I got my first and last dental work here in the US. A deep cleaning was 800dls even with insurance.
2 years later I went to Mexico and got the same cleaning for 700 pesos (almost 40 dls).
I was treated with the same professionalism and respect than here in the US. And the dentists were very knowledgeable. From what I can see, More and more Americans are getting their dental work in Mexico.

That's what I did last time. I got an estimate of about $6 K for me and my wife after deductible from my insurance. I had vacation scheduled for about a month after, so we packed and went to see our family for 2 weeks. We went to the dentist and we only spent less than $500 dollars in the dentist work. At the end, we probably spent about $3,500 the whole trip.

Hey dude. Thanks for making this video. It's pretty refreshing seeing American's give reviews themselves of their experiences in Mexico.
Being from California I go to Tijuana for most of my medicinal and dental needs. Whenever I mention that to people, it has gotten pretty tiring to see the bewildered and even disgusted looks followed by questions like "Did they rip you off?", "did they even do a good job?", "Are they sanitary?" etc. I don't know what they're imagining.

I am surprised (maybe I shouldn't be) about how much Puerto Vallarta has grown. I was there in the late sixties and it was just a small beach village. But then I suppose we could say that about most of the beach towns in Mexico. The Oaxaca coast was totally undeveloped fifty years ago, with no roads linking Puerto Escondido with Puerto Ángel, and only a rather dangerous but panoramic road crossing the mountains from Oaxaca to Pochutla. I was the only American at that time in Pochutla and Puerto Ángel. Now there are cruise ships putting in at Bahia de Huatulco and a coastal road goes all the way from Guerrero to Salina Cruz.

Working Americans are working so much for so less. They are not getting long paid vacation times, no paid maternity leave, and so on. Our healthcare and dental care are very expensive. There are a lot of Americans who wish to have universal health care and dental care; however, we are living in a very bloated capitalistic system that would not allow the common Americans to live a true healthy, prosperous life. What is consider as "opportunities"in the USA? A simple answer.. the 1% keeps destroying the common Americans and other countries for profits and control without being held accountable. USA is not the greatest country in the world as racist American capitalists want people to think. I wish the country would truly improve itself because times are moving ahead and USA is still in the stone age with its sick pro-corporate, pro-war, far right-wing mindset.

@@saresflores7674 As for me, I am speaking as a black person who has been living in the US all his life and sees this country as a huge problem within itself and the world. If US was the greatest nation on earth, we would of had Universal Healthcare by now, we would of had free colleges, we would of had true equal rights for everyone who is being oppressed, the US would not be attacking other countries based on lies, there would be equal pay for women and for non-whites, there would be no increase of homelessness, we would not have a bloated capitalistic system, there would be no racism, there would be no toxic masculinity, the tax money would have been properly spent to uplift the common Americans, there would be no US military bases all over the world, and the list goes on. The US has a reputation of telling so many lies about how great it is while putting down other countries that are more democratic than the US. This country is nothing but a bloated capitalistic, dishonest, warmongering, far right-wing regime, and it has been like that for a long time. It just that US has a "cute" way of sugar-coating everything to make everyone believe they are living in a democratic, liberated nation that has this thing called the "American Dream." A lot of people hugely believe in the American Dream. However, the late George Carlin said it right, “That's why they call it the American Dream, because you have to be asleep to believe it.”

I just want to share that I've work for a dental service organization (DSO) for over ten years (4th largest in the USA) and we hire dentist who graduate from a dental university (shhhh, we build in mexico) to on-board them here... They show a passion for it! 😀
I hope that tooth gets better! (if possible get a full porcelain crown (cap) to complete the restornation - instead of the porcelain fused to metal (pfm) - the pfm requires removal of more tooth structure to make up for the metal between the porcelain 😉). We want to see you smile! ❤
For the record, in California, the Usual Customary Rate (UCR) for a root canal is usually $1200-$1800 (depending on the tooth - posterior/bicuspids/anterior - And that is due to the number or root canals those teeth have, the more canals the more $$ 👍)...

Why American dentist do not charge about the same fees to treat patients in the same way in the U.S.? Simple answer: Greed from the dentists and insurance companies. If healthcare, dentistry, ophthalmology, preventive care, and pharmaceutical organizations could assume a simple role to truly treat the patients in the U.S. then the medical system could be affordable and reachable for everyone. However, rules, regulations, political implications, lawyers, and money are in a huge melting pot of corruption to become rich.

I live in Portugal where dentists are cheaper than in most European countries, and what you paid for the first dentist is about what you would pay here in a small town. Most Portuguese dentists also do the root canals so you wouldn't go to a specialist for that. Here we pay 40 dollars (35 euros) for a visit, but only if work is done. You normally wouldn't pay if the dentist only takes xrays and sends you to somebody else. The actual root canal costs, again in a small city in Portugal, about 100 euros or 105 dollars. What you paid, although it is most likely much cheaper than in the U.S., is about two times more than what you would pay in Portugal. I think that the dentists in Puerto Vallarta are taking advantage of the well-off Americans who live there.

Consultation 500 pesos, thats like 35 canadian dollars, I had to take my son to the dentist and consultation was $125, also for cavities they dont charge to fix the whole piece, they charge you for spot they need to clean, expect a total account between 300-600 canadian dollars, for a kids molar. Its INSANE. Its possible make it “feasible “ lets not say cheap.

I'm Mexican and it makes sense that you are sharing your experience with other Americans because I don't know if you know this but 900 pesos is for so many mexicans at least 4 days of work.
And another thing is that if you think the service you get anywhere in mexico is the same we mexicans get, well good for you because is not.
The only place where we are all treated the same is at the street taco stands.
Thank you for expending your money in mexico!
