My wife and I relocated to Morelia, Michoacan two years ago. She's Mexican and I'm from Reno, Nevada.
I was never interested in being by the ocean. We actually rented a too large, nearly 4000 sq ft home in a very nice neighborhood, for 8000 pesos ($400 USD) per month. We've had no need for a car yet, UBER or public transportation is efficient and mostly less expensive than a car, especially when considering insurance, etc. Almost all of our shopping can be done within walking distance. We can live easily on my Social Security income, with plenty to save, travel, and entertain. It's proven to be the best move I've ever made!
    VIVA MEXICO 🇲🇽

Russell, if you don’t mind, what neighborhood (what colonia) in Morelia did you find this home in?
I’ve seen some nice homes in Altozano, but you practically need a car to get around if you live there.
I’d love to visit your neck of the woods to see if I can find something that suits me.
Thanks in advance for your response!

Great video thank you! If you live in a big city like Monterrey, although most don’t come here unless it’s for work , near me in a small poor Mexican town with very few expats, it’s still fast loud stressful and fairly expensive. Lots of trash. A few gated communities in Monterey none too attractive. i had Mexican friends in this area from rock climbing here previously.. more than anything i want a quiet yard to garden create a habitat and enjoy the mornings with my cats. Paint write play guitar rock climb instead right now I’m feeding 10 plus hungry cats.. 3 dogs and bottle feeding 2 kittens. if you can ignore suffering animals it’s easier. Or accept it. Or live in a place that cares. And i don’t like the claustrophobic nature of all the walls around the houses in the cities.. although right now i am on a little piece of a friend’s property and was used to having a large lot in the states. so we’ll see how it goes. Mountains for me and a little breathing room . ❤️✌🏼⛰️🇲🇽

Great video Paul. Great choice and good for you. People always have their opinion about anything. You can never please them all, but you need to be in tune with yourself!! Follow your gut feeling is so important. I had the same. Back in 1995, I visited Vancouver Canada and wanted to immigrate. Yet I stopped the process because of the influence of friends and family. Took me 9 years to finally make the step. I left Germany for good in 2004. Best decision I ever made. Now, 19 years later, it is time to make the next move.
I love Bucerias as well, but prefer PV for me.
This is my second winter time in Puerto Vallarta Mexico, and I can't agree more with you. The life here is so beautiful, the people are warm hearted and amazing. The food is incredible and the warm weather round year is what I need and want. Next step is to move here permanently very soon. Viva Mexico

Mexican-American dual citizen here with realty experience. 🇺🇸🇲🇽
First the Pro's: I'm really happy for Jason! He seems like a great guy who found what he wanted..where he wanted..and for a price he could afford. What more could ask for?! 😉
Now the Con's: Bucerias is incredibly expensive compared to other beach communities in MX. For example: For what Jason payed for this 1 townhome in Bucerias..In Yucatan (which is rated the safest state in all of MX)..you could purchase 3 of them with even better build quality..more upscale gated community..your own private pool..and a short walking distance to powder white beaches with less traffic and more natural beauty. Which is exactly what I would do because you could rent 2 units and live in one..and therefore have a supplemental income investment that ends up paying for all three units over time. Or..you can hold on to the other two units renting them out until prices go up and sell them for a profit. 💲💲💲
However..I'm sure Jason knew this already and had his reasons for staying in Bucerias..and as long as he's happy and can afford it that's all that matters. 🙂 I just wanted to remind people you have plenty of other options. Great video as usual MTM and take care everyone! ☺

It must take a certain kind of mindset to be able to do this. A couple of my friends dreamed of living on Guam for nearly 30 years. Traveled back and forth several times, etc. to be sure it was the right thing, then sold everything and moved. Two months later they were back because they said they never could get over the feeling of wondering why their vacation was going on for so long.

Hi Jason, Charlie from Boston USA. I just came back from Bucerías last week. I was there for over two months this trip. I got to tell you I started in Teralta one about a year ago . I was in your same townhouse. Literally. I called Joel. I spoke with Daniela and Paul and they got me that unit from Pam. Two weeks in February March 2022 I sat in those hammocks. I liked it so much. I went back in May for two more weeks I recognized the place immediately. And the rooftop views . I am still researching. I will rent for one year And maybe one day, I’ll have the courage to sell my house in Boston. I will be back in October I kept my apartment in Bucerías . Best wishes brother. Say hello to Paul and Daniela for Charlie in Boston. Peace.

Bucerias and La Cruz is such a great combo of towns next to each other, and I often utilize and migrate back and forth. Living here, you have to have a different mindset as you know, but, for those who can absorb and appreciate the change, like me, flourish greatly. I am very happy living here and honestly, it just gets better and better each day as I get more comfortable with the transition of living in another country. You generally need a Temporary Vehicle Importation Permit (TIP). The qualifications and requirements may vary, so it's best to check with the Mexican consulate or official sources for the most up-to-date information. The cost of the permit can also vary depending on the duration of your stay and the type of vehicle you have. Again, it's recommended to consult official sources for the latest fees and requirements.
