  • Today we're visiting Thorpe Park in the UK to see how well they do with dispatching their roller coasters. We're able to test all of their coasters with the exception of the Walking Dead and Flying Fish. How do they do? Lets give it a look!

      Everyone swings their legs. I went to Thorpe Park today and everyone was swinging their legs. The operating wasn't as long as what you see in the video but swarm took a while to load and it broke down at the very end and we were sitting there for about 5 minutes. In the end we went on a lot of rides and it was a great day!

    I'm laughing at my home park's operations, sometimes the operations are better, it really does depend on the day, but I'm surprised Colossus had a shorter dispatch time than Inferno's, it takes like 10 minutes sometimes for colossus to dispatch.

      Yep, the trains on Colossus are awful - restraints don't pop up and are very heavy to open, you need to be a contortionist to get into the back of each car, restraints are heavy to pull down, seatbelts are fiddly, plus the station is really small so the dispatches are awful. I wish they'd just replace the trains because apart from this they really contribute to the roughness.

    That surprises me about Nemesis Inferno... They are usually the star of the park and usually pride themselves on fast turnovers.. They frequently used to beat their counter on the wall (which I believe is 45 seconds) and in fairness in this video, it looks like you had at least 1 recheck. Colossus here was actually quick in this video. Anecdotally over the summer it was as high as 7 minute dispatches... The team for Swarm are usually amazing at dispatching their trains.. They seem to be the "New Nemesis Inferno"

    When I used to operate Swarm we would aim to send it at least when it went over the station. The highest I’ve got was 46 trains in an hour. Average 39/40 trains. So this is slow for Swarm really.
    Stealth my highest was 1164pph. It will average 850-900 generally with faf. Very few people got how to do Stealth properly. If it’s ready when the other arrives back, and offload are shouting you off quickly getting you to do the seatbelts before it stops, you have a good team 😀
    Colossus is just poor design... Nemesis that’s just embarrassing. It’s so easy....

      Inferno’s dispatches are a joke now they’ve changed the procedure. 2 staff check 2 seats in each row front to back. That’s why it takes so long! It needs to go back to how it was (2 staff check all seats in 1 row) then it’ll be back to being the fastest in the park. No clue why it was changed. The rumour amongst staff is that management say it’s better. It’s clearly not...
      Thorpe Park is my home park and I’m there almost twice a week. It doesn’t depend on time of day or staff, it’s just terrible! 😞👎🏻 It’s my fav ride in the park too.

    • @leighgaryhills
      @leighgaryhills 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tom Browne Yeah it used to have positions P1, P2, P3. P1 would do 1-3. P2 would do Gates, 6-7 and Dispatch button. P3 would have done Priority, Bag Box and 4-5. P4 would slide the bag box and do Priority if it was present. It sounds messy but it worked rather well. We could get the train out earliest at the OG and it would be achievable.

    • @InsaneCoaster
      @InsaneCoaster ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I host Swarm at the moment. Our capacity has definitely been reduced since the bag room was converted to the cleaning room. With a good team on the day we can push over 40 trains an hour, but being honest it's not common to consistently achieve over 40. With the bag room no longer being operational, guests spend much longer putting bags and loose items away when they get to the platform and of course some try to take them on, which means we have to waste time unlocking the restraint and asking them to remove the bag. We're also technically not allowed to dispatch super quickly (even when all checks are complete), because we can't have the train stop on the lift hill in case of an overspeed on the other train causing the ride to stop on the lift. Like you said, with a good team, I would ideally aim to dispatch the train as the other train goes over the station, but nowadays a dispatch is 'good' if we don't have the train stop in the transfer track.

    • @leighgaryhills
      @leighgaryhills ปีที่แล้ว

      @@InsaneCoaster ngl I used to just press the lift start button and it would send it over if it had the block clear 😂 we would send the train when the other was around the helicopter and actually aim to stop it on the lift. Then we knew it was the max we could get out of it 😂

    Very much differs with the ride ops here from experience, with stealth and swarm normally being sub one minute dispatches. Saw is all over the shop normally. Nemseis Inferno has been poor for the last two years, but before it was normally on a 50 second dispatch, and this reduced capacity has lead to at least for me, it always having the longest queue time on park this year. Colossus is more understandable for long dispatches, as the restraints are heavy, and lifting them all day is tiring for staff. As well, it has a lot of issues with locking, as often the blue light in the station will not shine after the first go of locking , meaning it cant dispatch as the system says a restraint isnt locked properly, hence meaning staff have to go down the train again pushing down restraints. As well the restraints are tight meaning restraints often have to be released to assist a guest. Staff though make a big difference, as ive found dispatches to vary between 1.2, up to 5 mins this season when two trains have been in operation. Remember back to around 2013/14 when dispatches across the park seemed to be better with most rides achieving an average dispatch of just over a minute.

      Front row queue with Fast Track on Colossus was over 30 minutes wait this October during Fright Nights. At least the front row doesn't murder your soul unlike the back...

    As Thorpe is my home park I usually time the dispatches.
    Colossus usually 2 minutes minimum
    Nemesis Inferno 90 seconds
    Stealth 50 seconds
    Saw 50 seconds
    Swarm 50 seconds with baggage hold - 2 minutes if bags on platform

      Parks dont "intentionally slow down operations",but like Taylor mentioned its alot of factors that put in to how long it takes to send a train and the conditions it takes to load/ check a train. Maybe a park isnt as busy, so the workers aren't going to break their backs over an empty station, but any other time the workers are always trying their best to keep the line moving as fast as possible (Six Flags Great Adventure does a great job at this)

  • @SketchStep
    @SketchStep 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    Coming from a *former* employee, the Nemisis' dispatch time is quite surprising.. but for that ride it really depends on the team that day. Normally on two trains they are pretty efficient on platform and can dispatch trains pretty much flawlessly without stacking, guess that day was not a day like that though haha..
    The Nemi team also pride themselves on their fast dispatches and you can see the recheck of bars too due to having to release all the rows, so they could have probably had a faster dispatch time if that wasn't the case.

    • @CoasterStudios

  • @DJ_Darly

    Being a regular user of Thorpe park, most of the time bigger builded people who don't use the test seats make the time longer for dispatches. Nemesis inferno is normally a 1-1:30 minutes for a dispatch, but due to a bigger builded person, it took longer in the video, so not really a great comparison for this ride.
    Of course many comments below me would have thought the park would make ques longer to promote fastpasses….

    I've been watching your dispatch time videos to help out with our dispatch time at Elitches to improve them. Now what for this video I saw two critical reason why both Colossus and nemesis both had high dispatch time.
    For Colossus I noticed attendant was talking to some guess on exit side. She didn't start checking restraints until almost minute and a half into the loading process. So I think you can shave 30 seconds she wasn't distracted by the those guess
    Next the nemesis. During the load process of nemesis the tenants had to recheck the restraints after they pop open because of something you noticed you'll notice this around 3:25 in the video time. So if they didn't have to recheck the restraints. If they didn't have to do restraint recheck Nemesis time would been around a minute 15.

Like really nemesis inferno? and colossus? but then again those are higher capacity and require luggage to be stored in the station as opposed to lockers before that such as swam and saw, which will also slow down operations.

    Is the " in depth" study not flawed? As it doesn't take into account the amount of people per ride. Surely dispatch times will be higher for rides with more punters such as stealth compared to say the saw ride?

  • @coasterjim
    @coasterjim ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So at 1:45 you said Saw's capacity isn't bad? Well Firstly, 45 second dispatches I believe would give a capacity of 640 RPH, less than the listed capacity of Flying Fish, according to RCDB. Secondly, the first time I rode Saw, last year (2021), I was queueing for 90 mintes for the ride that isn't even that good in my opinion, and as my friends didn't know that this ride has one of the worst capacities in the park, they thought I was missing for over an hour. However, I believe I came on a peak day, as other times that I have ridden Saw, I only queued in half of the queue, but still, Saw can have a really bad capacity.

  • @dtmm2
    @dtmm2 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Colossus is a bit of an odd one. ride time is 1:45, and the train cant dispatch until the other one finishes and is in the block, so 2mins is not that bad... Though they could have it ready to dispatch.. Nemesis Inferno is usually much better than that, so looks like poor staff and bad batching with a mix of messing around with bags etc.

    Unfortunately, Inferno has that kind of dispatch regularly. The Colossus time was pretty good, since it generally sits around the 3 minutes mark. Stealth and Swarm usually have phenomenal throughputs, Saw is usually pretty good too. The great thing with Saw is that it has sooooo many block segments, with 3 on the indoor section alone, so as far as eurofighters go, it’s insanely fast throughputs!
    Alton Towers honestly has better dispatch times in general. There are easy comparisons to draw (Stealth vs. Rita, Nemesis vs. N. Inferno, Saw vs. Smiler, Flying Fish vs. RMT), and more often than not, Towers gets them out quicker. The only one at Alton Towers with a poor throughput that I can think of is Spinball Whizzer, but it’s a Maurer Söhne ride, who expected anything different. With queue-eaters like Oblivion (1950 riders per hour) on park, Towers is clearly gonna beast Thorpe Park 😂😂

    • @harveyb1963
      @harveyb1963 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think Inferno has really stepped it up since the start of 2019 to be completely honest. The 3 S coasters are all very good with throughput and colossus is very mediocre

    Yeah dispatch times are very subjective for this park. If the park is practically empty, then of course they're brilliant. But during busier times, the dispatches can be awful, and they can be good depending on what staff are on the rides. The fact that there aren't bag holders right next to the gates doesn't help either. But nice video :)

    colossus takes a while because of safety reasons. For the next 2 seasons it has to ride one car on the track at a time whilst the other goes round because of a risk of having an incident.
