Just had my MS10 refurbished and it is back in business after years of sitting on the shelf and will now join in my modular journey. Great to recap on the patch bay. Learnt and remembered a lot. Will be watching more of your vids. Thanks for sharing.

Superb tutorial , I bought an ms10 back in 93 and really wish I had videos like this back then to learn how to use it properly . I still have it in my fathers attic , gonna dig it out and dust it off and get back into using it , after watching this video .
I hope you've recovered it from your attic. I've a good few synths (read: far too many!), including some that are considered classics and I can honestly say that I find the MS10 to be the most inspirational synth of them all. It was the synth that changed my mind entirely about mono synths. I went from owning entirely poly synths to owning 8 mono synths and ONLY 5 poly!
I had this machine for quite cheap at that time. It meant a lot to me at then. It's a quite of surprise that you don't show nothing new I'd found out at that time. So thanks for posting. :-) It's a confirmation that I could get rid of it for the same price.
I'm actually planning a Part 3 this year with some things I've learnt since these two videos. Do you have any obvious patching tips from your past that I've missed?
Nice video, thanks! I want to add something that i have found by mistake on my MS-10: 1) Raise the Frequency Modulation MG knob 2) Connect the mod wheel output to the triangle modulation generator output (strange connection, isn't it? output to output). 3) Play with the mod wheel. Cool, Isn't it?
good job, really! some tips are great .. to solve the big problem of synchronization, I also use to connect one of the two LFOs of the voyager XL to the cutoff frequency, and it works like the kenton .. by the way, I too have Kenton Pro Solo (2), but unpardonably I had never used its LFO .. I will ;-) ah, you can also keep the sound on while leaving the mod weel free.. I do not have the MS-10 here, but I think it's Initial Gain to Trigger In thanks for this video, the best MS-10 tutorial here!!!

Good video, thank you for that! The sounds in the video is a very clear and strong (in a good sense), but alot of Korgs ms-10 have a more dirty sounds... What a cable you use for general audio output of your ms-10? Your ms-10 have a 2 pins power cable or 3 pins (with a ground)? Do you use a step-down power converter and where are you from (it's about voltage in the country - 100/110/220/240 volts)? Sorry for my questions but sounds of your Korg is very good and I have a interest for your rig from power supply to audio interface.. P.S. And yea, Ms-10s was made in 1978-1981 (not 90's) :)
My dad got it for me in early ninties, but yeah, obviously second hand :) I used an angled cable from Supreme Pro here. I have used budget cables as well and not heared much of a difference but now this made me want to compare... My MS-10 is a two pin (US-version I think) with no ground and then going through a big ass power converter to 220 volt Swedish power standard. The power converter actually looks older than the MS-10. Np, good questions Lea Der!
Not Lars , thank you for your answers! 2-pins power cables this is a standard version of Japan (in Japan - 2 flat pins and 100v), and your ms-10 without power/ground modifications. Audio cables have a different technical characteristics (resistance, inductance, etc.) and of course professional hi-end cables better - oxygen free, 95+% hum isolation, etc. - this is a good parametrs for the clear signal/good sound.. But the professional cables are different too in the sound quality and I was iterested for your model of cable, because sounds very good :) P.S. Good video and good answers - thank you for that :)

akos bacso In theory that of course make sense but how would you connect the output of the envelope to the PWM if not through the REV OUT? Have I missed something?
I'm fairly new to modular synths and I recently got an MS10. When it initially came I tried some patches that included the VCO and lowpass filter and they seemed to work fine. Later on I opened up the case to clean out the (extreme amount of) dust inside. When I reassembled it, I tried patching to the vco and lowpass but nothing is happened. Everything else works fine for the main knobs as far as I know. Any advice on how I should fix it? :( Great video regardless though!
I have had to fix my device once, after it was dropped on the floor and not possible to turn on. A friend of a friend here in Gothenburg took care of it but I'm not comfortable enough to give any recomendations when it comes to fixing the electronics. Sorry dude, I hope you find somone that can help you. Ask your local music store if they know of anyone?
I don't think there were any Korg MS-10 without a keyboard made. But if you mean the keyboard and modulation wheel on your MS-10 are broken I would advice you to get it fixed ;) OR, get a Midi->CV device and control it via external stuff.
