We dutchies litterally won entire regions from the sea. So, RCE is not entirely correct. With constant increasing levels though... i dont think we would be so lucky.
@@nathaliestarlight6372 Don't you have plans to extend even further in the Doggerlands ? I think I remember seeing a video about the Netherlands wanting to build a series of artificial islands connected by locks to future proof the country against sea level rise.
The fact that matt was racing the tide but played the whole thing on fast forward made me laugh and infurated me at the same time. Man likes a challenge I guess
I don't think the map was made with the pausing limitation in mind. I would like to see more of this please. -Strategic water pump placement? Flood disaster response trucks? Dams? Quays?
Some one should make this concept into a whole game! But maybe in reverse, so that the water goes away periodically and increasingly serviere. And maybe put in some sort of water dwelling rodent in it, just for the loughs. Jeez I would watch the hell out of that, if Matt would play such a game.
A game where the water is constantly rising would be interesting though. The game could take place on like an infinitely tall mountain and you have to keep trying to advance your city while at the same time constantly moving it upwards. And possibly there could be new challenges the further up you go like with oxygen and stuff. Could take place on an alien planet so you can be more free with what is realistic.
That's a cool idea, honestly! Also I'd like to see some water drainage/irigation management, with canals and reservoirs. There would be some potential for environmental storytelling about the positive impact on nature and revitilising wastelands. Matt, please make a Timberborn roleplay in Cities: Skylines, like playing a game as if it was another game.
You could totally do this challenge. Once the lower city was flooded, you needed to destroy all the roads and services that were causing you to hemorrhage money. Sure your city has shrunk, but you'd have a lot of time to grow it back on the high land. Just live within your means!
9:30 Architect move detected. The water won't hit the canal until it over tops the sea wall... Probably better to canal *then* sea wall, give the water some place to go first then the sea wall becomes taller by extension.
There was another map with the same concept a few years ago. It had some actual terrain for you to work with, which I think would be far more interesting. It also didn't have a flooding problem like here.
Ahhh the good ‘ol Netherlands simulator! Funny enough in ye oldie times the dutchies would actually build on hills and flood the lower areas to keep away any attacking forces. Anyway absolutely enjoyed the video, these type of challenges are always a blast to watch!
Interesting. What you really need is a long, skinny map with a series of steps. Start at the bottom and over time the map just fills up so each step is then flooded. See if you can build faster than the rising water.
If people can smell their disappearing garbage it is still bothering everyone. I wonder what would come out if you actually built a perfect city, according to all building codes and such. Would be awesome to see your design.
Idea: You probably could’ve started pumping water from the canals, which would’ve killed two birds with one stone by lowering the water levels in the canals, making them a viable solution, as well as having a source of water for the town.

Cities Skylines, but a meteor strikes in every 10 minutes. Also a tsunami comes every 10 minutes. The sea level is constantly rising and you are building a city with 1 tile and 1 road challenge.
Once you started building up it would have been a good idea to protect your services by moving them to the new area or just turning them all off so you dont have to pay the upkeep.
did u know that those buildings like police station, have unlimited range the roads getting green only means that people are gonna be happy about this!
I’ve been watching quite a few of your CS videos over the last few weeks been keeping me amused but this one was awesome genuine tension the likes of which only top creators manage to pull of with serious hard work. You could do an entire series of just this map because it’s instant tension, multiple attempts over and over trying to beat your own high score with different techniques of course you real teaser is you will never win but the battle is what makes this impossible to look away from the fact that we know how this will end but not when. I’m very serious I want more of this so bad I think I would watch an entire channel devoted to this map.
Can you stack a sea wall on a sea wall? Also never use graveyards and garbage dumps... always upgrade them to recycle centers and crematoriums as soon as you can. Also once stuff stated flooding you should have demolished it all as it still costs you money when flooded. That is what drove you into bankruptcy. You should have done all high density up top and had all the utilities up there. Then demolish everything below if you could not build up the sea walls higher.
I always pause while I’m building. I don’t want something to happen while I’m not paying attention. And especially in this challenge, time is of the essence so you don’t want to waste your time by doing stuff while it’s unpaused.
This was a nice one, but you forgot you also have water pumping services, and you could had put water pumps on the canal and drain it away. And as soon the main city started to flood, destroy everything that costs money, every service, and dezone the whole place, even remove roads that are not needed anymore, except the higher elevation. But I think your city went bankrupt also because you never paid anymore attention to the highway going out. You could have just used the national 4 way highway for going in and out. Great video, love the video edits. As a fellow CS content creator, may I ask where you get those sound effects? They are really nice and give 'situation awareness'. 🙂
ok i know this is a bit of a throw back to something you haven't done in a bit....but i have a question/challenge for you....is it possible to engineer a tsunami defense using only canals, floodwalls, and only having pumps at the end of each canal? (essentially avoiding the landscaping tab?) ^.^ consider it a challenge from an architect
RCE! I have some news to tell you! Idk if you know this already, but office buildings In the city could have the name “Master Architects”!!! This means there could very well be architecture in engitopia!!

Iirc a TH-camr named spike viper did a very similar series with an island in an ever increasing sea called atlantis

Water in Cities Skylines acts really weird when you change game speeds. The first burst was probably from shifting between slow and fast game speeds.

If you put water pumps in the canal and then turn them off they will continue to suck water so you can try and put many to stop the water from rising.
I have always loved the challenge of defending against water in this game. Defending against Tsunami's is also fun.
Matt had a whole ass dystopian time line going. Moral lesson and all (you need a working class to survive).
Love the fact you quoted Gillian Mckeith in this episode "oh no the poo. The poo is not good."
i think the reason you lost is A: the upkeep, and B: you had it on 3x speed for the final parts
POV: You're a Dutch city planner.
