how many regrets were had about building a BP? I for one have lots.
Approximately zero. It was never about dollars vs horsepower or horsepower vs reliability. It was about creating a relatable build series that would help way more people than a K/LFX/LS/Eco/J swap. I got to learn a ton, I got to build an engine (which I wouldn't have tried on the other swaps), and I get to try for the best "under the curve" BP build out there. Now if I did a second NA, it would definitely get a non-Miata engine.
I feel some regrets for boosting my only car and killing a ton of the reliability and peppiness of the throttle. But I'm still on my own tune and stock flywheel lol.
TheCarPassionChannel fair enough. Makes sense from a content point of view for sure. And even still, you come out on top for dollar:hp ratio. The problem is, you are now tapped out for power (for the most part). You spend the same amount on a kswap, but ur stuck at 220whp. Then it’s another 5k ish to boost. So while you can make a lot more power, I feel like this begins to push the line of “wtf am I doing? Just go get a vette”. This is why I kept the bp, also because of class regulations. So I guess I take back my original statement. I don’t really have any regrets. :)
Evidently people like the Mazda engine builds. Look how many followers Mr.Mattman lost when he ditched the 1.6 for a V8 and a powerglide. What I really want to see is a 600+ HP FE-DOHC build.

The roads in my region are like this. MX5 heaven. Though Wales and Scotland have some amazing roads that are quite comparable.

Video threw me back to the days of canyon runs in the 1.6
Got a 2.5L NC myself. It's the same one in the video, the L5-VE. Mines a 2014 engine from a Ford Fusion, although the same 2.5L can come from some Mazda vehicles (Mazda 6, CX cars, etc) as well and the engine itself I believe is of Mazda design but possibly Ford manufactured. Maybe someone can correct me here.
Mine does not have cams, it's literally just a high flow catted midpipe with a high flow muffler with a tune from EcuTek. The car is so fucking fun for so little money. These engines can be had for dirt cheap and very little modification needs to be done to make it fit since its basically the same engine.
The NC is so underrated right now and offers so much bang for the buck that the NA/NB "purists" who shit on it aren't just stupid, they just aren't car people at this point. The stock springs are not ideal, but the chassis is the best out of ALL the Miatas for big power.
The NC chassis is the most robust among Miatas, because it was adapted from the RX chassis, which was made for a bigger, heavier, more powerful car, rather than being derived from the outdated NA/NB chassis, or engineered from scratch. So while it's a little bit heavier than it needs to be in a stock NC, that over-engineered character is a plus when you are modding a Miata to make big power. All of the professional builders of heavily modified Miatas seem to acknowledge that, but a lot of Miata fans seem unaware.
I don't hate on the NC. I would just personally never build one because I don't like the way it looks but that's just me.

Thank you for sharing your experience, Greg. I will need to give the Fab9 guys another chance as my first interaction with them was less positive than I would have liked it to have been. They seem to really be supporting the community and you always have good things to say about them, so I think I could have just fallen through some cracks on an odd day.
Greg, please make the NC build happen! Big fan from Germany here who just got his first NC, cannot wait to see one on the Channel and draw some inspiration and learn how to stuff from you!

I recently drove the new 184 hp nd and I was blown away. It's just such a good car an that engine impressed me a lot. It had waaay more torque than I ever expected and was so responsive.
That thing was as quick as my na with 8 psi

The best thing about the gap is that although its a public road, its almost like a race track. Cops don't usually go there, and its usually filled with bikers. Also, most people will let you pass if you are faster than they are.

After years of watching, a couple of days ago i finally got a 92' 116k miles 1 owner miata. Pretty sweet, oem hardtop and glass window soft top. Looking to manual swap it.

I have an NC1. It was a boat. Was. Even with the Bilstein sport suspension. Coilovers (MeisterR Zeta CRD) changed that. Now having fun in SCCA STR class autocross (insert shameless channel plug here). I also have a 95M and just picked up an ND2, so I speak with some experience. I hate the boat moniker, but the NC needs suspension work.
I completely agree with you on the stock 1.6 NA deal. I've had a ton of fast/modified cars and nothing beat just jumping into my 1.6 and giving it hell whenever I wanted. No down time, just a joy every time the key was turned. I think a stock k20 NA6 would be such a blast.
Also, get a damn Exocet already.
Exocet is on my list. I would love to work with Exomotive on an "Ultimate Guide" for an assembling an Exocet, haha.

I have a 2.0l NC Sport with short throw shift 6-speed box, LSD improved airflow, premium fuel, sports exhaust - definitely no boat! Suspension, brakes and 17" wheels still stock...
Build an NC please for the love of god. Colored in Light and I are really the only people who are attempting a TH-cam build. Not to mention you'd bring in more subscribers.

People can take the piss and hate on miatas or mx5s as much as they like but you can't deny there the best bang for buck sports cars in the world and stock there amazing and without spending loads of money you can really wake them up and they will make you smile big time and on roads like that you cant keep up with them. No joke there cheap little race cars and super fun to drive and even more fun to modify. I bought a NB my first mx5 and I wanted to see what there all about my god its my favorite car to drive and I own a R33 skyline and a RX8. I had my mx5 stock for about a year then I fitted coilovers and bracing then big brakes and I put together a turbo kit its now got a GT3071R turbo and its faster than my single turbo RB26 skyline because its so light with a lot of power you dont need to use the brakes through corners my friends can't keep up. I would tell anyone to buy a mx5/miata I promise you wont regret it honestly.

Surprised you didn't spotlight the special sr20 swapped miata that was there.
What do you think about the steering on NC and ND? i have a manual rack NA which i love, tried a friend's NC and found the steering responsive but almost too light... this friend drove an ND and said that it's a bit worse due to the electric power steering. What's your thought?
I also happened to try a power-steering NA and i have to say it isn't that big of a difference at speed. The steering still has plenty of "weight" but it's a lot easier while parking and slow speed manouvering. I'd say it's the best compromise for a DD miata (but i keep my manual rack and dream about a properly depowered and welded ps rack, since mine is a weekend car)

going from a na with a depowered rack, to the nd’s eps was terrible for me. i drove it for a year before i was ready to either sell the car, or figure out how to depower it. that day, i pulled the electric motor out, and i’ve been loving my nd since.
