I love how polite everyone is at these events. You see the guy waving them past when he realises they're going faster than him and everyone just laughing together when somebody spins out and working around them. Just don't see that over here where it's just WIN WIN WIN the whole time
What I love the most about this video is how many of these Miata's are N/A, here in the US everyone and their grandma goes forced induction... or LS. Love me some N/A roadsters.
I like how classically most Japanese drifting is low horsepower low torque low speed. Formula drift and D1GP differ greatly in the approach and the execution. I really dislike how drifting has been pushed towards speed and power in the U.S. in 1985 your average drifter probably made less than 276whp. If you've ever seen old footage you know there is so much skill in the slow speed drifting and it's very tactical. Yes high-speed drifting is very skilled as well but it seems more akin to rally racing than the original form of drifting.
I think it has to do with the tracks as well. Japanese tracks are generally smaller, tighter and lower speed. Take these cars to the US and I dare say they’d have a much more difficult time on the larger and more open tracks there.
From what I can tell people say that the best way to get some more power out of a miata engine is to use forced induction. I defintely wanted to stay N/A but there are no cheaper mods to get power. and the flyinmiata turbo kit doesnt require a new ecu or a tune
Ah - so nice to see the Miatas drifting so politely around that circuit. They road race the same way, durable, easy on consumables, tire and fuel especially. Thanks for sharing this! Have fun in Texas! Come out to the Bay Area some time!
