      These were 809 RC High Renthal Fatbars. Took them off after filming. The angles of the dangles were strange. Went back to a flatter stock KTM bend, which you can see in the newer video above.

      Just a question, my left arm also goes numb while riding, from the shoulder like you described. Any idea what this is called? I actually have a lump of muscle on one side of my lower back from when I used to carry heavy backpacks and put less of the weight on my left, because I thought it was numb due to having too much weight on it. Its caused me alot of issues so I would appreciate any help.

      Bought a bike that had one in it. Rode like 15 hours on it and hated it. It reduced power and was just werid since I already had always used a pure manual. Also for tight enduro you still have to use the clutch because it practically drops the clutch when it engauges. Not only that but you loose idle or near idle speeds and rpms. Got fed up and bought a brand new clutch pack. In my opinion, never get one.

    I had a rekluse setup where my clutch lever was converted to become my rear brake lever. Was a super awesome setup until one day I was riding on a cliffside and had a branch grab my throttle cable and launch me towards my death. Safe to say the rekluse was removed and the bike became stock. Might have to give the rekluse another chance with the standard clutch still in place.

    • @JohnHowerton137
      @JohnHowerton137  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      That could happen Rekluse or not. More likely your side hilling, lose balance and pop the clutch when your hand slips off sending it to the moon. I’ve seen that tons of times. When I’m stopped, my clutch is still pulled at the lever. I just use it as an anti stall device mostly.

    • @JohnHowerton137
      @JohnHowerton137  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you’re that worried about it, especially if you run full wrap hand-guards, I’d tether anyway. All bikes can run wide open sideways. I have a Dunlop 752 tattoo on my forearm from 1994. Back when Rekluse was just an apple in it’s fathers eyes.

  • @killacoiler1707
    @killacoiler1707 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The Rekluse system is amazing because you can come into a corner hard, let off the throttle, down shift, and instead of the engine braking the bike you can coast. Unless you are rolling on the throttle it will freewheel so you do not have to worry about your back end skipping around making your transition smoother.
    The rekluse allows you to carry more speed through the corner and come out much harder without having to clutch the bike. I ran one in my KTM 250 and my buddy has the exact same bike and we ran track times with me riding both bikes and I was 2.5 seconds faster through the track with the rekluse system versus a normal clutch. It isn't cheating, it isn't for girls or old men, it is modding to be more competitive. If I can shave time off my laps and carry better speed through turns and corners why wouldn't I do that? It is no different than changing your stock reeds out for a set of V-Force 3 or replacing your exhaust with a Pro-Circuit setup or upgrading your carb or suspension. I am almost 50 and still ride and as long as they make a rekluse for the model bike I own it will have one in it, but don't get it twisted give me a KX500 and I will deal with wrist pump and hand fatigue to give her a rip; just not for as long. My spirit is 19 but my body is like 65 to 70 from all the torn muscles, ligaments, broken bones, and concussions I have sustained in extreme sports. If it allows you to enjoy your riding time longer and with less pain screw what dumb-azzes don't understand use that hand to wave to them as you rip past them 😆!!

      Plenty of normal riders out there running them, mopping the floor with other normal riders without them. I have a friend with two full time jobs that gets to ride about once every 2 months. He basically wins (or comes close) every time he races (rides A) because it prolongs his available fitness. He doesn't have time to ride to practice/keep up fitness or even workout due to work demands. With Rekluse Auto he still gets to enjoy racing and does it much safer.
      I'm not judging anyone's vehicle of choice for fun, but how is an able bodied person riding a quad with 4-wheels any less "retarded" than an able bodied person using an assisted clutch? Don't be so quick to judge.

      Get a Rekluse, I have two WR450s and I installed a Rekluse on one. It’s an unbelievable relief in the technical stuff! If I’m out for an easy day of trail riding I take the one without. If it’s technical single track or a competitive event I use the one with the Rekluse. It’s expensive but so is carpal tunnel surgery.

      Yeah you’re onto it. What I have is thoracic outlet syndrome. It’s a compensation from having a destroyed wrist causing me to drop my elbow and over-load my traps & rhomboids etc.. and pinches my thoracic nerve. I know how to manage it, but since the wrist is still highly dysfunctional, especially when sore/tired, the body reverts to the path of least resistance which causes lots of resistance somewhere else. It sucks 🤣
      Modern lifestyle of heavy computer and phone use and general poor ergonomics from being taller than the avg human.. all contribute to poor posture and tight overactive pecks. It’s the daily struggle 😋 Thank god humans are good at finding work arounds for shit we mess up. LOL

      get it doesn't matter.
      First off I want to be clear this reply is NOT targeted AT you. Merely a breakdown for any future readers because it pops up so frequently.
      It isn't cheating if it's not banned from the competition. Period.
      Apparently governing bodies (and half the comments here) don't see it as any kind of advantage.
      It's not like the clutches are any kind of secret. Half the time there's a big engine cover advertising it's in the bike 🤣
      They've been on the market for like for 17 years, commercially available, affordable to anyone (relative), and made for basically every model that would be used in competition. If they don't have a model, chances are they'll make it if enough people ask to warrant the development.
      People who claim these are "cheating" need to quit complaining and start a petition to have them removed from sport if it's that big of a problem to them. It takes less than 5 minutes and almost zero know how to start a petition in the internet age.
      Auto clutches in dirtbikes are not winning championships hand over fist. This is why the real world doesn't care.
      The outside of competition, people who say, "Rekluse Auto is cheating!"...Well, their opinion doesn't matter in the real world. Not really sure what to say to that?
      I guess those people should stay home stop having fun riding with their mates if it hurts their ego that much when they get passed in a technical section. If they don't pass you... well then what's the problem? Let your mates enjoy their riding too. Maybe you wont have to wait or help them as much... and maybe even get to some cooler places that they normally wouldn't make it to?
      Either way, everyone wins.

    Any advancement that makes riding easier and more accessible is a win in my books!
    I was never allowed to have a dirt bike growing up. As an adult, I got an electric dirt bike. I shredded on it. Jumping anything and everything. Sliding corners. Wheelies. Stoppies. I loved it.
    Then I rode a “real” dirt bike with clutch and foot brake and injured my shoulder. It’s been over 2 years and I have permanent shoulder damage and can’t even raise my left arm. It’s made surfing harder now too.
    What I’m saying is, ride whatever you’re comfy with. Rekluse can help new riders learn. And it can help experienced riders progress or ride easier. Pros are rockin it. Trials guys are rockin it. It still acts like a normal clutch when you want.
    I want a rekluse in all my bikes until electric becomes more affordable and better.

So far the only thing that gives a temporary "cure" is acupuncture, but it's only good for about 3 weeks or so before the pain comes back. My next bike will be a YZ250X. I plan on riding a mix of MX tracks (vet level) and wide open desert. I might look into a Rekluse. Also just out of curiosity, what kind of compression strap do you use on your left wrist? Is that something I can buy like at a pharmacy or is that make by a specific company?

Blew the wrist out at the growth plates causing it to dislocate whenever it moves since '96. I broke all the hand bones in the top In '97 I think. It's pretty much just a meat hook. Os1st make really nice stuff. I run and race in their socks and stuff. I think I'm going to pick up their sleeve so I do t have to tape as much. I've used about 1/2 dozen other kinds of braces over the years. Outside of tons of tape, the möbius has been the best. Roczen has them on both wrists. Tons of Pro MXers have or do use them.

    Nice video. Ask a few old school motocrossers what we did without this high tech gear. For a fact many of us never used a clutch when shifting up or down. But you have to condition your bike to do this. Transmission Sycronizers in all manual transmission bikes, cars, trucks, and semi-trucks can be conditioned for shifting without using the clutch.
    We still had to start or stop with a clutch but not while racing. What you have to do is when you get a new bike, take it out and simply shift by feel. Take off in each gear until it passes the powerband then back slightly off the throttle then switch gears. The engine hits the top of its powerband for each gear you press.
    Keep doing this for about 4 days then change the crankcase gear oil and replace. By this time the bikes sycronizers teeth will be conditioned for that particular rider. We called this Power Shifting back in my day.
    A quote from the old motocross guys here: thumpertalk.com/forums/topic/933803-shifting-with-no-clutch-07-crf450r/?hl=clutchless%2520shifting
    "Anyone that is still using a clutch to shift up or down all the time is A. new to riding motorcycles or B. hasn't raced bikes much."

    • @JohnHowerton137
      @JohnHowerton137  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I largely agree it can be done safely. I've probably done a million clutchless shifts on bikes and my old Ford Ranger was shifted without the clutch all the time. Especially driving home in Moto boots 🤣
      It wouldn't be responsible for me to make a blanket "Shift without the clutch" statement here though with all the entry level riders seeing this.

    If this type of clutch can give me a few more years of riding, it's worth every penny! I'm looking into it ASAP! Yes, I live under a rock. Or isolated on a big ranch in Texas... I've heard of that type of clutch but didn't really know what it was or how it worked.

    Very cool, Many kids non racing dirt bikes and ATV's have clutches that work exactly the same but they don't have a clutch lever. They have been around for a long time in machines like Honda big red three wheelers for eg. This combines the best of both worlds. I battled with arm pump a long time ago when I was into racing, I'm sure this would help in the final laps when u have arm pump.

    I installed a Rekluse in my old 990 Adv, because everytime I killed it, I'd fall down. That old V-twin motor stalled easy, and I was too rookie to learn the clutch. The Rekluse SOLVED the issue and allowed me to start up on steep loose hills with little wheelspin (unless I want!), and to jam the rear brake into lock and not need to clutch. KTM totally fixed the stalling issue on my 1090R :-)
