I've had one on my YZ450 for about a year now. Rally tamed it down for technical riding. Allows me to focus on lines and makes for easier recovery. It still has engine braking, you just have to bump the throttle to re-engage it. Takes a little getting used to but when you do...soo much more control on the bike. This one sounds out of adjustment engaging late.
Best way to ride with the rekluse is pretend you don't have it and use the clutch like normal. It will cover any mistakes of stalling and too high gear selection. That is one reason I don't like electric start. With a rekluse the bike never stalls anyway! Also it sounds out of adjust. with it in gear and no clutch it should drag slightly
I run a Rekluse on my 350, I only have it to keep from pop stalling in super tight or super technical stuff. This guys rekluse is way out of adjustment, just from the MX track portion.
Totally agree. It's more of a safety feature if you ride as normal. Unfortunately it robs a little power, but I ride trails only so I can't really open it up where I ride anyways.
I have a Rekluse on my KTM 300 XC and love it. I heard you say " I'll leave it in 3rd on the trails and lug it" do NOT do that, my buddy burned up his Rekluse in half a season cuz he isn't an experienced rider.....yet. Use it like any other clutch but enjoy the slow technical sections by just lugging through. Otherwise just use it as if it is a normal clutch, it'll last longer.
You can also get different springs to make the clutch engage early... low in the rpms or engage higher in the rpms. (It sounds like that is the way he has his clutch set up to me) But it is totally tunable for how you like to ride..
I have a Recluse Radius CX on my '19FX450 and it is the most amazing aftermarket part you can buy. This guys clutch is just not adjusted properly. It should add some big torque too.
My guess is this bike needs more free play gain. Slipping at high rpm means it probably has no free play gain and the screw on the slave cylinder need to be turn out (loosened). Just found this problem on my bike this week. Night and day difference in the top end of the rpms.
I broke my thumb and had surgery on it in November of last year.. pins and screws in my hand.. so while i was recovering i knew that i probably would have issues for now on with my clutch hand.. so i invested in a Rekluse Radius Cx clutch on my 500 Exc-f.. still healing up but i do get out and play around getting used to the Rekluse but so far i freaking love it.. i also felt like i was cheating.. i can’t wait until i can see how it is when hill climbing.. Love the channel and keep up the great work.
I know to each his own, but I don’t understand when people knock Rekluse. It’s a tech advancement making riding easier and more fun. If you want to keep things hard, ride a 70’s bike. Personally after riding for 40 years, I’ll never have an off-road bike without one again. Also takes away most of the engine braking in a 4 stroke which I like. Sounds like you may have been riding a high gear on the track. Gear selection still matters with a rekluse
Everything starts with proper “free play gain”. This bike has zero free play gain. That is why it slips at high RPM. EVERY Rekluse owner must understand free play gain and how to adjust it.
Getting past all his whining about the rear brake (WTF uses the rear brake that much anyway) his comment “it’s like cheating” is spot on. After riding dirt bikes for 40 years I installed a Rekluse on my 2017 FE501 and rode it yesterday. It’s amazing.
you are supposed to use the rear brake in conjunction with the front brake just about every single time you want to slow down. In fact, the rear brake should be used even more in technical and wet conditions, since the front may want to lock up easier.
I ride a kx250 2t with a rekluse and it's a game changer in the woods I can go up some crazy muddy rocks that there's no way I could pull off with my clutch skills . There's alot of adjustment for the drag ,springs and play so you can get the right grip from the clutch mine is the cable style and my best adjustment it only slips at the very very top of the power it don't slip a bit at blipping wheelies . That one seems to be out of adjustment you can always call rekluse their reps are top notch .
The only place I regret my Radius CX clutch is when I give up on STEEP climbs, always my fault not enough momentum, but then the front brake does NOT hold the bike, and I am usually not quick thinking enough to keep on the gas to keep the clutch engaged. I roll backwards, and both the bike and I meet the ground. Yeah, I might get a left hand rear brake someday... Otherwise I love it...
Kinda' like the first mini-bike I ever rode... a Honda QA-50. And I never used the clutch to shift on any of my bikes. They all felt like they had constant mesh transmissions. Release throttle a bit for upshift, blip for downshift. Easy-peasy. I rode everything from that QA-50 to a Maico 501 with a Bultaco 250, Husqvarna 400, and lots of other stuff in between. Ancient, I know.

My Recluse buddies are always telling me how they have it perfectly adjusted and a few rides later they tell me it is perfectly adjusted. They are constantly dicking with the things. 300s grunt so well, the auto clutch is not needed 99% of the time. There are some times though, when we ride the hard core stuff that the auto clutch is nice. The one thing I loved about the 4T I rode with one was he had a left hand rear brake on it and the combo of that and the no stall engine made for instant hacked out turn the bike with rear end slides at will - very fun. Would rather spend the dough on a Lectron carb for these bikes though.
5 years, a dozen Hare Scrambles, 250 hours in the woods, and zero adjustments. Seriously... not one on my 350 EXC-F. The WR250f needed an occasional tightening, every year or so. I put the Lectron on the 300 with a Clake, but kept the Rekluse on the 350 with a LH Brake. By the way, the 300 just isn't as fun for me, it's for sale, Christini AWD and all.

I added a recluse clutch to my 450EXC and then added a modification that turned my clutch lever into a rear brake lever. I’m only 5’5’ so my feet rarely touched to ground. I loved it in every way. Absolutely no clutch slippage ever. FYI
@@nothanks2994 the difference is you can choose to use or not to use your clutch lever to slip the clutch, which can provide many advantages. You get a very smooth slipper transition with little throttle input which is the same effect as holding your clutch lever in ever so slightly and you can then modulate that slippage with the amount of throttle you apply. It's lazy sure if you want to think of it that way but think about the type of people that are dirt bike riders. Not everyone is a stud in perfect shape pro racer. Another advantage is that your bike will never stall. slam on the rear brake in 6th gear tapped without pulling the clutch in and bike just goes to idle. Not saying you'd ever need to do that but just proving the point of how it works. The product is made for a certain demographic in my opinion and it is a very good product for what it is. Also I believe the product used in this video is 3 generations old of the auto clutch design. The most recent rekluse clutch called the Radius CX or X honestly retains 100% stock bike feel with the added benefits I mentioned above, if you so choose to use them. I just rode in FL over the weekend and my buddy hopped on my bike for an hour or so. Later on that night we were talking and i mentioned something about the rekluse and he goes wait you have a rekluse on that bike? he had no idea bc he was riding the bike just like a normal bike.

I don’t have one but I want one. I imagine with no engine braking his rear brakes are probably just worn out. Check the pads but it might just need an adjustment. But he probably uses the rear brake a lot with no engine braking. Makes total sense to me.
I have a rekluse on my 300 i love it best money i ever spent i can use the clutch as normal or not my bike will hold back some only thing if you stop on a big hill grab some brake or you will go backwards you wont stall your bike really nice on tight single track
I ride with a cx rekluse in my beta 300rr and I really dont ride any differently. I still use the clutch like normal but dont worry about flame out on tight technical stuff. Also have one on my 350 xcfw. It really helped that bike with flame out issues. I do miss the engine braking though, but you can rev it in gear and engage the clutch on down hills
It shouldn’t slip like that in full throttle, you are correct it is out of adjustment. The way I have my Reklus.setup I can use my clutch as normal no slipping at high revs. A well setup reklus feels like a torque converter at stall through low speeds. You can be at a stop put yourself in third line up the hill and you don’t need to mess with the clutch the entire way up of you don’t want to and it will never stall. Makes riding so much more fun and a lot less work in technical sections
I just bought a YZ250FX and it came with a rekluse. I was considering removing it until I rode in some gnarly stuff. I feel guilty because it makes the tough parts way easier. It has the stock clutch cover so no one can tell, haha.
I was in the exact same boat with the same bike. I had a hard time laying off still using the clutch lever. It definately works and makes some situations far easier but I like being fully connected and at fault so to speak.
The REKLUSE clutch is a Love/hate deal! It takes some getting used to! I've had a Rekluse on every bike that I've owned since 2008! It's a slipper style clutch, you can still utilize your manual clutch when needed! Depending on the series of Rekluse you can also change the engagement to fit your riding style.
It doesn't sound like that clutch was working properly. It should have just as much power and grab as a normal clutch does. I think it's definitely out of adjustment, but hey maybe its go pro's hyper smooth effect playing tricks on me. FYI, the big difference you should notice between regular vs rekluse is the rekluse disengages at low rpm. That's really 95% it. It should be fully engaged with no slipping at mid to high RPM's. - previous rekluse owner
My friend has a rakluse clutch on his 2017 ktm 350 exc and has his rear brake where the clutch should be. its so bad because when we are on track hitting the back brake while in the air is easy but alot harder than having it on the handle bars
I had one in a kx250 half a dozen years ago, it was great in that bike which had a tall first gear and not a lot of power off idle so it stalled easy. I had to experiment with the adjustments to get it set just right. My current bike a yz250 is much harder to stall so I don't have an auto clutch anymore even tho it would be nice at times. Don't abuse it too much, the bike will get hot and the clutch will wear quickly. Its like traction control leaving the bike in 3rd when you should be in first but its hard on it.
How can you feel it slipping when you’re riding in the muddy terrain? I feel like my bike is slipping the clutch to when the rear tire is just spinning in the mud. Put it on solid ground and then Give it full throttle, then we will know if that clutch was slipping, lol.
I rode a yamaha 450f with a rekluse and was not a fan. Very weird feeling. I'm sure once you're use to it it's fine but I could not see spending that kind of $$ just my opinion. I'd rather work the clutch
Some models of rekluse suck and others you wouldn’t know they are there until you don’t touch the clutch leaver. Get the Radius CX. A little pricy but worth every penny. I bet the one you rode was one of the entry level ones or it was not set up properly
So crazy, me and my son ride at this track several times a year. We live about an hour away :) I knew I recognized the signs And as far as the rekluse goes, I see the advantages but have needed felt the need to have one since I have been using a regular clutch for 30 years lol
When changing gears, do I still need to use the regular clutch? P.S. You shouldn't run a bike with a Rekluse clutch in the wrong gear, just because you can. That way you will be putting much too much wear on it, and it will wear out in no time.
I call them Shekluses. They work great on Timberselds. Used a them in desert racing (if you jam the breaks up at speed, the bike doesn’t stall), hate the rekluse in the woods. Feel like the clutch control isn’t right.
It should just engage and not slip whit full beans. There are steel balls that are added or taken away to make the engagement smooth or sudden. or he needs fresh plates
I took mine out, 09 250XC. I bought it with it in, it's different, I just like working the clutch better and felt the rekluse was hindering that at low speeds.
If I’m not mistaking he has the Z start Pro in his bike and that one has about 40 balls in it and when the clutch spins at a certain rpm then balls will expand and it will act like a normal clutch, no the core exp or the radius cx they will have a clutch feel all the time so you can still use the clutch like a manual clutch if that makes any sense
Hey love the videos, what fuel ratio and oil do you run, and I’m looking to get a KTM 150 XC W I’m 5’8 and 15 years old do you think this is a good bike I’m coming off a 4 stroke crf 150 Rb
I've been using the rekluse for years and bought the new 19 Six Days 300 and put the rekluse on but turned it off. I crashed and broke 3 ribs, so I'm back to the rekluse like its supposed to be used. I still use the clutch like normal.
I have never used a Rekluse. To me its like, are you really riding if you don't have to use the clutch? My brother had a Rekluse and really didn't like it, but I am sure they work well for some people. He said he couldn't bump start his bike with it which is weird.
Maybe I'm weird, but I couldn't get used to a Rekluse. My co-worker has one on his GasGas and I just couldn't wrap my head around it. I'm so used to grabbing and biting and slipping the clutch, but like I said, maybe I'm just weird
I'm sure it's cool and all, but it's best on motocross bikes honestly. Pure trail bikes usually have the low end grunt to pull when you need it to. Besides, it can really limit your skill once you reach a certain point. Good product, but not for all bikes/riders.
Rekluse is not hydraulic clutch then its a hard to pull lever vs a very light ... plus you loose the hability to feel the bike engine in key difficult terrain... No hard endro top 10 racers use rekluse ... its not cheating is extra help for older people or rookies who want to have fun but by no means its cheating in makin a better rider its the opposite you cant do crazy hard enduro stuff with rekluse ... Prove me wrong by racing riders no motocross, supercross, endruo top riders use rekluse
hahha - I rented a 300KTM and thought the same - "this is cheating" it really helped on technical climbs that are unfamiliar and steep sliding downhills that normally can stall out
Whats really like cheating is learning to use the clutch on your bike as delivered,Jarvis says it works. Most bikes 1 finger can run the clutch and its like magic if you spend the time to learn it.
And I can drive a stick in bumper to bumper traffic everyday... if you spend the time to learn. I ride the bike to unwind and enjoy it, not to compete like Jarvis. For me? Worth... every.... penny
if you are not planning to be a Graham Jarvis, do onewheels for 1kilometres its fine. its an amazing product for hobby people like me (oh wait many racers use rekluse hehe they just hide it)
A Rekluse will hurt you in the long run. It can make you lazy hurting your clutch skills that help improve your riding. I personally cant stand them I tried one on a yz250fx and a te300i and staying in the right gear felt near impossible so I had to keep slipping the clutch or downshifting to get back in the power. This is something I could get use to with time but its just not for me.
When using a Rekluse, you still have to be in the proper gear to gain the most benefit. It will slip to compensate for rider error, but you'll be losing performance.
I see a lot of people thinking this turns your manual transmission into an automatic, when in reality it's not the same. All it does is keep you from stalling out or needing to slip into gear when starting from a stop. It will rob you of some power, but I personally view it as more of a safety thing while riding trails.... a place where power usually isn't your limiting factor anyways.
Ben uses it in our local hare scrambles. He is consistently placing podium in C class. Another guy I follow races A class, he also uses it. I would say it’s worth it.
These negative comments about the Rekluse clutch are hilarious. Hahahaha, wait till all top tier dirt bikes have them as a stock feature. You gonna tell your kids how bikes used to be so much better - back when they had carburetors and a kick start and a traditional clutch! Those were the days, right?, Non of that nonsense electric start either. You all are old men before your time. Your kids will just roll their eyes as they leave you for dead on the single track. Once in a while they'll glance down at their GPS display just to see where they are relative to where they last dusted you. And you in your old open-face bell helmet, gardening gloves, and shop goggles, staring at your paper map and sputtering pre-rekluse heap. Hahahaha, so ironic and simple you are. Can't even see your ridiculousness. But at least you're no hypocrite. You don't need no slipper clutch. You can ride just like your pa.
I wanna see you get on the throttle full tap and stay on on it thought the gears wide open to see the difference between the way the clutch reacts you showed bottom end but i dont feel that we saw everything peace.😁👍✌
I Had A 2008 Kx250f With No Rekluse Clutch And Wanted A Bigger Bike And I Bought A 2014 KTM EXC450 With A Rekluse It Took Awhile To Get Use To But After Awhile It Was So So Fun To Putt Putt Around In 2-3 With No Bogging Down
Only read the last comment and as usual a stupid comment about if I did t want to use a clutch.. bla bla bla. Don’t listen to ignorant people. You’ll just miss out on good shit The Rekluse clutch doesn’t not eliminate clutch use whatsoever. You can use your clutch just like always to power out of turns etc. The purpose is to allow you navigate slow difficult terrain and provide maximum traction with out constant clutch work. Especially uphills. In this video the guys bike was clapped out apparently. Poor rear brake and Rekluse completely out of adjustment. They shouldn’t slip under load. Also with the correct tuning springs you will retain engine brake all the way till about idle. You want the light springs combination which they supply when setting up these clutch’s. The Rekluse provides a huge advantage to everyone and anyone who states different doesn’t know much about riding single track.
There is nothing more uncomfortable muscle memory wise than getting on another persons big. Everything just feels totally screwed up. I would have loved one of those back in my single track days on the 2000 CR500.
Needs to be adjusted, if set up right it won't slip like that.

- previous rekluse owner
is it really slipping in high rpms, or is the back tire just spinning in the mud?
Or is the rim lock not on the tire tight enough...
It was slipping, tire was not spinning. He got it adjusted sense this video. Much better
@@GladiusJon got it! enjoyed the vid
@@MXJEFF94 if that's the case you rip the stem out of the tube... Instant flat tire.
This one is not adjusted right, it's not supposed to feel like a slipping clutch and it should have engine brake
So crazy, me and my son ride at this track several times a year. We live about an hour away :) I knew I recognized the signs
And as far as the rekluse goes, I see the advantages but have needed felt the need to have one since I have been using a regular clutch for 30 years lol
Best thing I did on my CRF450R. No more flame outs and a piece of piss on hill climbs. They shouldn’t slip as much as this one in the video though!
If it feels like it’s slipping as you say, it’s not adjusted properly at all. Set up needed.
It should just engage and not slip whit full beans. There are steel balls that are added or taken away to make the engagement smooth or sudden. or he needs fresh plates
The steel balls version is old, old. There have been multiple new variants since that do not use steel balls.
@@ExpatriotSilencers the new variants are garbage so they went back to BALLS OF STEEL
Witch one did you buy, like whats the differnce between the $500 one and the 1000$ one
What kind of camera do you have? I loved the video image quality
They’re downfalls to that when your stick on a hill are screwed and you won’t be able to jumpstart your bike
how long the rekluse last in a video a guy says that they las 30-40 hours of driving if that's true I hink is expensive to change it every month
Some say that about KTM top ends too. Doesn't mean it has to happen.
try it with the rear brake on the handle bars and tuck the clutch line away ....game changer
Was this at Robert’s?
Yes
recluse clutch... it's like your bike is broken
Go try and then come back with your expert knowledge.
Please tell us what camera are u using. It is really superb quality!
Hey love the videos, what fuel ratio and oil do you run, and I’m looking to get a KTM 150 XC W I’m 5’8 and 15 years old do you think this is a good bike I’m coming off a 4 stroke crf 150 Rb
So, was it out of adjustment? Or was the slipping what it is supposed to do?
Why do you rev the engine that way? Not necessary.
is it ok to run atf in my dirtbike gear box alot of people say it would work great
No, do not use atf. Most Wet clutch requires JSO MA2 oil.
He said he couldn't bump start his bike with it which is weird.
where is this you are ridding I am in southern MD looking for more places to ride
It's good when you have to carry groceries on your left hand while riding home.
You all win and make me deal with all the headaches
Maybe I'm weird, but I couldn't get used to a Rekluse. My co-worker has one on his GasGas and I just couldn't wrap my head around it. I'm so used to grabbing and biting and slipping the clutch, but like I said, maybe I'm just weird
Did he set the rear brake to be soft on purpose or ...?
Where are you at? Saweet area!
Do you race VCHSS out of curiosity?
What camera did you use to record this video ? Looks really really good !
( Go pro ? )
Why do you wear your knee guards outside your pants?
Because I'm backward.. lol!
It's hard to find pants that fit well over knee guards IMHO.
WD 777 GJ is the only person I’ve ever seen wearing guards outside of his pants. Same with braces, which are bulkier that guards.
He's not the only one that wears them on the outside the pants, a lot more comfortable.
hahha - I rented a 300KTM and thought the same - "this is cheating" it really helped on technical climbs that are unfamiliar and steep sliding downhills that normally can stall out
Whats really like cheating is learning to use the clutch on your bike as delivered,Jarvis says it works. Most bikes 1 finger can run the clutch and its like magic if you spend the time to learn it.
And I can drive a stick in bumper to bumper traffic everyday... if you spend the time to learn. I ride the bike to unwind and enjoy it, not to compete like Jarvis. For me? Worth... every.... penny
if you are not planning to be a Graham Jarvis, do onewheels for 1kilometres its fine.
its an amazing product for hobby people like me
(oh wait many racers use rekluse hehe they just hide it)
Nice video mate!
Hey guys ktm brakes are known for going spongy just need to bleed the line every now and then
What are you mixing I would of fouled 10 plugs by now
That's a jetting issue not a mixing issue.
Robert’s track and trail 👌
A Rekluse will hurt you in the long run. It can make you lazy hurting your clutch skills that help improve your riding. I personally cant stand them I tried one on a yz250fx and a te300i and staying in the right gear felt near impossible so I had to keep slipping the clutch or downshifting to get back in the power. This is something I could get use to with time but its just not for me.
Hey buddy sounds like he got automatic clutch we’re u don’t need use it for shifting gears my atv 250 has it
When using a Rekluse, you still have to be in the proper gear to gain the most benefit.
The clutch shouldn't be slipping. His clutch is not set up correctly. What model Rekluse does he have?
I think it’s really great for beguinners or people with hand problems👍
does someone use rekluse clutch at race is it worth?
Ben uses it in our local hare scrambles. He is consistently placing podium in C class. Another guy I follow races A class, he also uses it. I would say it’s worth it.
I have engine braking on my 2014 350 sxf and I got recluse core 3.0
that track looks awesome. any more vids riding it?
That rekluse clutch was TOTALLY not adjusted properly. Mine hits hard immediately.
i have one on a cr500. i havent reall been able to put it through the paces but so far so good
Love my Rekluse!!!
Is it much easier to use or the same as having a clutch but using ur feet
I Had A 2008 Kx250f With No Rekluse Clutch And Wanted A Bigger Bike And I Bought A 2014 KTM EXC450 With A Rekluse It Took Awhile To Get Use To But After Awhile It Was So So Fun To Putt Putt Around In 2-3 With No Bogging Down
What is it with American tracks they all look so nice as you have loads of sunny days. Here in England is total opposite 😂😂
Super Hoop99 wanna switch places. I’d rather ride in England than the deserts of Arizona.
Only read the last comment and as usual a stupid comment about if I did t want to use a clutch.. bla bla bla. Don’t listen to ignorant people. You’ll just miss out on good shit
The Rekluse clutch doesn’t not eliminate clutch use whatsoever.
Got a feeling the novelty of it would wear off quick and you’d find yourself going back to a normal
You can still ride it normal. Thats the beauty part. You dont have to though.
@@LMBC6Brian does it not feel weird though like feedback wise?
Maybe do a review on a bike that’s in proper working order
